1. Welcome to this class: Hi and welcome to this class. This is the second
part of my course, how to draw chibi girls. And the first part, you learn how to draw chibi
character from zero. Now today you will learn how
to ink and color your work. I will share with you
three different ways of ink and coloring. This kind of exercise is very useful to help you
to find your style. Ellis procreate for this course, but you can apply
all the steps and tips on any digital
drawing platform. Even if you draw traditionally, you can get some ideas from
this class, so let's start.
2. Ink Technique #1 (Black line): Okay, so this is one
of the characters that we learned to draw in the
first part of this class. This is just a sketch,
as you can see, and our goal for this class
is doing and color archiver. For this, I'm going to
reduce layer opacity 50-40%. I highly recommend you name your layers to keep
your project organized. I named this new layer ink. Now I'm going to select
a brush for ink. Doesn't matter the software that you will be using
for this class. Just try some brushes that look good for you and
start to experiment with some strokes and size to select your favorite ones
for future projects. So in my case, I like the finish given by this brush and procreate
technical them, and choosing black as our main
color. Let's start doing. For this bow, I'm
going to follow my original design with little
waves to simulate lace. And to guarantee that
everything looks proportional, I'm going to select this bow, cop it, and turn it horizontal. I need to erase these lines here and move it to make it
match with the other part. Of course, you can
do it this way, but we can use a tool for
making this process easier. Inprocriate, you can click
on this configuration icon. Now Canvas, on draw guidelines
and choose symmetry. Place the guideline right in
the middle of our chivger. This option will
act as a mirror. So whatever you draw
in the right or left of the line will be
drawn at the other side. I'm going to draw her face
staring with her ears. Now the jaw, neck,
and all outfit. I will speed up this part. Just remember that
brush size and shapes can give a sensation
of different textures, and that is what we are looking for to give more
details to her dress. Draw the basic silhouette
first and the legs. As you can see, the original
sketch isn't perfect, so I decide to redraw her legs. I forget to tell you that the symmetrical option
can be found on different platforms
like Medibank if it's paint and other free drawing
tools, so don't worry. Add some balls here, her bony ears and hair. Probably you'll spend more
time in this phase because hair strokes are more
organic, but it's okay. Just redo the stroke if you needed to get that soft effect. A line for the ear, her earrings, her ponytails. And now her mouth.
Now for hair banks, I don't want a symmetrical look, so I'm going to the
activated drawing assistance and run a dural piece of hair. Okay, so I've been throwing
this in a single layer, but for some overlap
objects like the chess bow, I'm going to create a
new layer and activate the symmetrical feature again
and draw the bigger bow. I will hide the
original sketch and reduce the back layer a little
to erase some lines here. Bring the opacity to 100%
and combine the layers. Now in a new layer
through the eyes, this is just a
personal preference, but I prefer to draw
one eye only and then copy and paste it
and turn it horizontally. But you can use the symmetrical
tool if you want it. In a new layer, drop this
tiny bonny hair pin, again, reduce opacity and
erase the background lines. And the first part is done. Now that our character
has an outline, let's add some details. Can you notice the
little corners where strokes collapse
between them? We're going to fill these
gaps to create more volume. The first step is
to identify it. You can see it here,
here and here. With the same brush size or if you need to reduce it
a little, it's okay. We're going to create
bold triangles. Just follow the path of the
stroke and make them pointed. At the beginning, can be a
little tricky to identify the spot but don't worry
with some practice, you will find this
process very easy and your strokes do not
look plain anymore. Now combine all the
layers in a single one, and this is the result of
our first inking process. Save this layer
because we will use it later for the coloring phase.
3. Ink Technique #2 (Different stokes): Let's move on to our
second technique. This is another character
from our previous course. The first step is to create a new layer and reduce the
opacity of the sketch layer. Activate the symmetry tool and now place it in
the middle of our Tiv. I select a new brush
and procreate, you will find it as moonline. I choose this one because this brush doesn't have
a pressure variation. For this technique, we want a bolder silhouette and
a thinner stroke inside. Now that we have our silhouette
and creating a new layer, choosing the technical pen and drawing inside using
our symmetrical tool. In this character,
we need to create a single layer for
every part of her body. So remember to name it correctly to keep your
project organized. Remember to erase some
lines behind the objects. Here, I committed
a mistake because her back is part of the main
silhouette, so let's fix it. Now the final ledger
for her face. Remember that you can
add a lot of details to your character's eyes
like hearts or sparkles. And this is the result
of our second metal. I'm going to group this
in separate layers in a folder to keep my document
organized and it's done.
4. Ink Technique #3 (Color line): For our last technique, I'll use my hiv de Monger, activate the symmetrical tool, and choose a thin
brush with red color. Take your time and draw
everything with the same brush. This process looks very
basic in the inking phase, but makes a huge impact when
you color this character. You'll see later in the scores. Create a new lighter for details and erase
the background. Finally, combine both layers and
finish it with some details. Now you can see the result between our three
inking techniques, but in the current phase, you will see a different
result. So let's start.
5. Color Technique #1 (Basic coloring): Please activate your
bony hivear layer. If you can block the layer to not color
in the same space. Create a new layer and
choose a basic color for the skin and a
little bit darker tone for the skin shadows. Now the same for her hair. I want a blond chivi so pick
a yellow tone and a darker one for shadows and do the same for the
dress and her eyes. I want blue eyes, and this is your
reference color palette. If you don't know how
to combine colors, you can find some
inspiration and interest. Now create a new layer and let's begin
with the skin tone. Choose a brush, pick the color, outline the area that
you want to color, close the color line and
drag the color here. This is appropriate
feature that you can feel it manually or
use a buck paint tool. Paint the legs too. In a new layer, I'm going to pick this yellow
fur hair here. Create a new layer
for the dress. I recommend you
use the base color first and after that,
add some shadows. And again, a new later
for her blue eyes. I will use a darker pink for details like her
gloves and bon ears. And I want to use a lighter
pink for other dress details. Create a new layer and apply the mask to only draw
inside the base color. Take your time and color
the dress details. Okay, now it's time
to add some shadows. Select the darker tone for her and paint this section
behind her face. Also blow her bow and some
lines in her ponytails. Change the side of your brush if you want and add some
lines here and there. Also in the lower part of the size and now select a lighter color
to create a basic light. Just trace a horizontal
line at the top of her head for her eyes, select a darker blue
or the color that you choose and fill
this part of the eyes. Finally, add shadows
for her dress using a darker pink and their
tone for some highlights. I recommend you use multiple
layers for shadows, highlights or details
in case you want to change it or if you're
unhappy with the result. And this is our final result. This is the basic
coloring technique. The most important
tip here is to use a darker color of the same
base tone and not use black, gray or brownish colors to shadows because you'll
end up with a moody look. So now that you know the basics, let's move on to
the next lesson.
6. Color Technique #2 (Mixed lines): For this technique,
please open this hibgar. Remember that we save
this as a group. Our goal here is to keep
the main outline in black and any specific colors for internal lines
for each layer. Of course, this will take
more time to finish, but you don't need
to use shadows. So first step,
define your palette. I want some brown tones
for the character, so create a new layer for this. Paint your character
as the first one and remember to define the
basic colors for each part. Now, a new leger for her eyes. I'm going to pick a ringtone for her eyes and a
little shine here. Create a new lager
for her accessories. In a new layer am, create the dress details, apply a mask, and this is a little trick to
create a fabric effect. Select a lighter color, increase the brush size, and draw diagonal lines. Now to the other side, reduce the brush size
and do the same. Now you have a cute
fabric design. You can also play
with the opacity or draw flowers or
circles if you want. Now bring some magic here. Lock the main line
of your tibger. We're going to color the
outline of the blows first, open the layer, click Select and color with a darker
color than the base. As you can see, I'm coloring
over the main outline to pick the layer and
put it above the layers. Now do the same with her dress and socks using a darker brand. And for the accessories
layer, use a darker yellow. Color skin, including her
mouth and her cheeks. Mm. Finish this process with her hair using a dark red. This is our final result. This is one of my
favorite techniques because it looks
so soft and cute, but I want to show you my last coloring
technique. So let's start.
7. Color Technique #3 (Complex coloring): For our last technique, we use our Damon chibi gar, create a new layer to
define the palette. This third technique
is more complex because you need to have a basic knowledge
of color theory, so I already have my
palette, but don't worry. Just follow these steps and with some practice
and observation, you will domain this
technique easily. So for herir skin, Pica soft, red or pink, this skin will use
a soft yellow for high legs and a purple
tone for shadows. Try to find similar
colors in your palette, create a new layer
and color the skin. For the hair, I pick
a stronger red and also a yellow tone for high legs and a darker
purple for shadows. Use two layers for the hair, one for the front
part of her head, and the other for the backward. And put the skin
layer in the middle. In a new layer, select a
yellow tone for her horns. And in a new layer, choose a lighter
yellow for her eyes. Add a shadow below her
eyelashes using a light blue. Pick the same red that
we use for her hair and color inside and
not a yellow highlight. Use the same blue
tone in her horns. Now add some yellow
highlights to the skin. Just add a line on the border of the ears,
arms and fingers. Now pick the purple tone defined before and
draw some lines below her ears on the
neck, arms and legs. And finally on her face
and below her backs. Let's do the same with her hair. Use purple and color
the back part for shadows and now yellow to color the hair border
and create a highlight. Select a w brush and trace some horizontal
lines in the zone. If you want it, you
can leave it this way, but if you want a little
more detailed hair, you can select a florid
brush or select this little finger tool procreate
and create this effect. Now paint the tis shirt. I pick this dark gray
for the base color. I like yellow for highlights. And this color for shadow. So yellow tones for
her teacher design. Now, her accessories. And her shoes. For her skirt, use a gray tone, add some
shadows and highlights, and use a lighter gray to create a pattern using diagonal lines. And this is done. If you're happy with the result, you can merge all
the color layers, but here I want to
show you something. You can play with the ink
layer and change the color. This is the result with a blue outline and
looks pretty good. You can experiment and define the best color
for your character. These are our final
three results. I hope you enjoy this class and find it useful for
your drawing process. Let me know which one
is your favorite one. I'll be so happy to
see your result. Do not forget to at this
class and if you want it, you can follow me on
