Are you ready? Let's get started and quash together. 3. About Gouache supplies and materials required for this class : Hey everyone. Welcome to this beautiful class where you're going to learn how to paint with Gh and how to path lettering, not just paint with wash, but how to paint lettering illustrations with Ah. This is going to be a really fun and a very relaxing class. You'll know that as we go through the session. But before we get started and move on to the basics of how to paint with Go and everything. Uh, I just want to quickly run through the supplies that you will need. The first is, of course, quash paints because you're going to paint with quash. So you can either have quash paints that comes in little bottles like this. I think any brand is fine, like there are a lot of brands and I'm from India, so there's this flash paints and there's this brustro. There are a couple of other brands, but any paint brand of Gah should be fine. If not bottles. You can also get these tubes class, anything, that's fine. You don't necessarily need to have a lot of paints. Just a small set, like the basic colors. A set of five or set of 12 Gh Pines should be fine, which consists of primary colors. That should be enough. That's it with the paints. And then next is the brushes. For brushes, you will need a round brush of size six and town brush of size one. This is for the finer details. You may also have a thin line of brush which will be easier to add finer details. You don't need to have specific brushes for wash. Any brushes that you paint with watercolors should be fine also because watercolor crystals are very smooth. And this is something that is easier to paint with wash paints. But acrylic brushes might have little hard crystals, which will be a little bit difficult to paint with. Uh, I would always recommend these synthetic hair brushes for, uh, yeah, that are the basic for the paper. I would recommend you to use hot press paper. You can also use cold press paper, but I feel that the texture of the hot press paper is really smooth. And that also allows the quash paint to just spread very smoothly on the paper. That's why I, I prefer hot press papers because it's very easy to paint on hot press papers and get the right texture. And the field through this, any branch should be fine. Just make sure that it is at least 300 GSM. If not a watercolor paper. You can also use mixed media paper, which is very good enough for wash painting. Also, mixed media paper which is hot pressed again and has a smooth side, you can take that also, You don't necessarily need to always. The beauty of the Ah is that you don't need to always paint on a white surface. You can also paint on any colored surface. In this case, like for today's class, we'll be painting on a black paper so that you get to know like how is trust me, like, uh, and black paper is just like, so beautiful and the colors just like just pop up. Yeah. So this is something like we'll be painting on black paper and the one that I have is I'm not sure if you can read what is that? This is like a Fabriano black paper, which is again 300 GSM. It is in a size, but I've cut it into squared because I don't know. I just like painting and the painting in a square piece of paper. It's just like, easy to compose and it looks more balance. That's something that I prefer personally. You can either take like an four sheet or a square. You can just cut it. So if you have an four sheet, all you need to do is just cut the sides. And probably this paper, you can use it to test the colors and swat some colors and just use it for test painting. Or just to test out the elements and anything that you want. So this is something that you can do if you want to paint in a square piece of paper. Because as I said, it's more easier to compose and it's just like, it's fun to paint in a square paper. This is also 300 GSM. Yeah, that's it about the papers. For the palette, you can use any regular palette. But what I would personally prefer, and what I would recommend is to have a palette which has a lot of mixing area, instead of having these small wells which doesn't have a lot of room for mixing. So I personally prefer, like probably you can have, this is just basically some dinner plate which I found at a store. You can use ceramic palette or you can use dinner plates or anything which has a lot of space for you to mix colors. Yeah, that's it. I think the most important, of course, you need a glass jar of water. Just one cup. Probably. If you want to go through the section all at once, then probably you can have another container filled with water and yeah, that's it, That's it. About the basic supplies that you will need. And let's get started. 4. Basic techniques (in depth): In this lesson, I'm going to share the basics of, unlike other mediums, Ash is very easy to master because all it requires is to understand the right consistency of the paint once you master this and once you understand this, it's very easy to master and paint with. I'm going to share some basics and techniques that will help you to master very easily. First is you're going to learn about the consistency of the pat. I'm just taking some paint and mixing with a little bit of water. I'll show you how to understand the right consistency of the wash paint. And I'll just move my camera a bit closer. It's easier for you to see. Yeah, I've just mix the wash paint. You will see that wash paint over here is just moving very smoothly and easily. It is becoming transparent at few places and it is thicker at few places. It's not evenly spread out. That is because there's a little bit more water which is required because a guash pains are matt finished pain and it just dries out evenly. Ettric is to use a proper consistency of paint and the water. And this consistency, you'll understand only when you practice a little bit more with quash. Because every paint brand is different. Like the amount of water that you would need with this particular brand of paint, versus art philosophy versus any other quash paint brand would be very different. It's important that you understand the Pi six and then it'll be easier for you to paint quash with any brand. I mixed a little more of paint. Now you'll see that how everything is just very thick and it's very even. I'll bring up the paper close to you so you'll be able to understand the difference. This is fully, if you can notice the difference over here. This one over here has some transparency. It's thick at few places and it's thin. But if you notice, everything is just so even. It's like a solid layer. But this is the right consistency of wash paint. If you add too much of water, I'm just adding a little bit of water over here. If you add too much of water, you'll know that your whenever you paint with Gah, this is how it's going to look like if you just use too much of direct paint. I'm just taking direct paint right now and just using it over here, you will see that it is very thick. Again, can you see the difference between all of these swatches that I made? The right consistency is this one where the paint dries out evenly and it's very sold. In the beginning, what you can do is you can always test out the consistency to understand a bit. Trust me, it's not that difficult once you understand this with just few or like a couple of paintings. When you do this, you'll understand this consistency with these and you'll fall in love with painting with, uh, consistency is very important and that's the only thing that's very important in Gah. The rest is just like piece of cake. You can add layers and you can add details and it's just a beautiful medium of art to fall in love with. Consistency is the must going to market like this is the right consistency. Yeah, Moving ahead to few techniques, there are only a few basic techniques that you would need to know which is wet on dry in this. Like if you have painted with watercolors before, you would know that for watercolors we usually wet the paper and all that, but we don't have to do that. All you have to do is just just paint and just put it on dry paper. This on dry, right, It's easier for you. This is Wet on dry. Then next one I'm going to teach is wet on wet. This one wet, dry, It's going to be similar to this swatch of paint which I did, which is just understanding the right consistency, this is wet on dry as we go through our painting and all that. I'm going to share a lot of tip syntrix to paint with quash and a lot of things about quash that you can do and how it's a really versatile medium. This is wet on dry. The next one is wet on wet, which means that you don't have to wet the paper over here is just like you just put wet paint on the paper. Just repeat the same what you did earlier. And another thing about quash is that you can move your brush around in different directions. Like if I'm painting these brush strokes like vertical ones, I can also paint horizontal lines like this. But still, it will dry up fairly evenly. That's something which I love about. Uh, this is wet on wet. What this basically means is that when the paint is still wet, you take another color and you paint over it. So what happens in this technique, I'm just going to show to you. When you paint when the surface is still wet, what happens is the color starts to blend. Let's say if you want to paint something over this and you want the colors to blend. If you paint, the paint is still wet. The base layer is wet. Paint over it again, the color automatically starts to blend. This is dry over here. I'm just going to assure it to you so that you understand what this is. When the paint is dry, if I just paint over it, it's not going to blend. It's going to be the same yellow color. But when the paint is wet and I put wet paint over it, it starts to blend. This is a technique which can be used paint flowers or to give beautiful shades and flowers and all that as any other element, not just flowers, but any other elements that you want to paint and you want to blend both the colors. This is a technique which you use for that. But wet on dry is like the most used technique. Something else that I also want to tell you about wash paints is that, uh, is basically a medium which is between like watercolors and acyl. It has both the properties of water colors and acrylic water colors, like it's water soluble and it's easy to mix. And all that e property of acrylic, which, uh, has is the mat finish antique layer of the paint that is there. Q has both of these properties. And another thing to keep in mind about quash paints is that it gets reactivated easily. So I'm just going to show to what it means after it dries. It does not mean when acrylic paint dries. It's just that like no matter how much over you paint over it, it's just permanently dried. But with quash paints, that's not the case. Quash reactivates again when you add more water. I'm just going to reactivate a corner of this squash with water. And you see that like the quash paint is reactivated. It's good in a way, but also you'll need to be very careful. Like after you've finished your painting, like even if water falls accidentally or anything, the whole painting can be ruined. But don't worry. Stay with me till the end of the class. I will tell you how to predict your quash paintings after you've done with paintings. Yeah, this is about quash, but this is the only thing like it's reactivated easily. In a way it is good because even if you make mistakes like it's easy to cover it up and all that. But sometimes, like if you're happy with the final part and accidentally if you drop water or anything, it just it gets reactivated, but you can always cover it up after it dries. We'll move on to more techniques. Bet on one of the ways of blending blue colors while painting. Like if you don't want the previous layer to dry up. And then paint over it again, then this is the technique. But if you want to have a seamless blend of two colors, let's say if you're painting a landscape or something like that and if you want two colors to blend like really well, this is the technique that you will use. I'll just show what you do is this is basically a blending technique. In this technique, you just watch a layer of paint like this, okay? And then you add another layer of paint from the bottom like this. This mean you just picking yellow color? I'm just watching it like this. If you want to blend these two colors, what you'll do is just wash off the paint from the brush. And just take a little water on your brush. And just take out the excess water from the brush. Just like water then, because reactivates easily, just gently move your brush, make this the colors will start to blend. This is a beautiful technique which can be used when you're painting skies. And all you can see how the colors are just seamlessly blending. Now this is a technique which is used to blend colors and wash pines. You can use this lot of ways, not just painting skies in a landscape, but even floral. Lot of things that we'll be learning as we go through the class. I think, yeah, that's the basic is also easy to layer with. The beauty of Gh is that you can add as many as layers you want. That really helps in bringing depth and add more details into a painting. And it just brings up the entire painting and it just enhances. That is one of the beautiful properties of. I'm just going to quickly demonstrate over here on how to layer with wash paints. You can understand and see, but we'll be doing more of that while we paint the actual illustration. I'm just going to paint some tiny yellow flowers on top of this glue for me to just share how, uh, paint works with layering. I've just taken thin, I'm going to paint some tiny yellow flowers over here. This has more water. I'm just going to paint it over here. You can add as many layers as you want. And ah, this is just like a very small demonstration for you to understand like, how you can layer. Then on top of this we can add another layer of pink. So I'm just taking pink color over here. I will add a little detail to the center of the flower. I just love being guided with intuition through as I teach. Like even throughout my sessions, something that I want to make you understand is also like how paints dry differently file you layer una. So I'm just going to demonstrate that also if you want, you can also along with me, I'm just going to take yellow and blue as my past color to understand like how colors behave on light and dark background. What you'll be doing is paint two swatches of one with light color and one with dark color. And I'll make you understand how it is. First, I'm just making yellow swatch like this. You can take any light color. This is just like for a base layer. Then another swatch with a dark paint. I need them. Whenever you're painting with ah paint and you feel that the consistency is not the right consistency, all you have to do is just simply add more paint and then mix it and paint like how I'm painting in different directions and you will get the right consistency of ah, paint. We painted two swatches over here like this. The yellow one needs a little more of paint. Sometimes if your paint is too thick, you can just take a load, your brush with water and then you can just adjust the consistency on the paper itself. Yeah, I think it's perfect. Now, if you're practicing the I hope you're enjoying the creamy and the butter like consistency of quash paints. It's like, so soothing to paint. I think because of the texture of the paint, it's even more addictive to paint with gah, the paints glide on the paper. It's just like smooth, melted butter. That happens when you understand the consistency of the h paint. I think this is dried. Now I think the blue is dried. I'm just going to take pink color and paint some flowers over it. And the same pink color, I will paint lowers on yellow. So you'll be able to understand how one color behaves on dark and light backgrounds. Okay, you can take any color. Just make sure it's one color that you use on both the light and the dark background. I've taken pink over here. I'm just going to paint some flowers. You can paint lines. You can paint square, circle, anything. It's up to you. This is just like a rough demonstration. I think the surface is not yet dried. The paint is reacting with the previous layer, and the blue layer is getting activated. But I think yellow is also wet. Just a couple of more minutes for this to dry. Yeah, we can paint. Let me try on yellow. Yeah, I'm painting this beautiful pastel pink on yellow. And you can see how this paint is looking on a yellow background. It was just very simple flowers thing that's tried up now. Now you can see how the pink is even more popping out on the blue surface. The surface is still wet, I think blue. It's reacting a bit. But you can see how the pink is more vibrant on the blue surface versus the yellow surface on light surfaces. When you put paint, it depends, of course, depending on the color. But few colors just blend with the light background, in the dark background. When you add these light colors, it just up and it just enhances the color. So this is just for you to understand how light colors work on light background and dark background. And you can also try the same thing, like you can paint a light background and dark background. And you can pick a darker color, let's say a black color. And just see how the pains look on a light surface and a dark surface. This is just to understand, quash, understand how colors work by layering with. I think that's it with the basic. We'll move on to a quick color mixing session, which I'll just guide you. And there'll also be a little homework for you later on because I want to share how I understand colors and how to learn color mixing. Yeah, let's move on to that. 5. Understanding colours: In this lesson I want to take you through color theory and color mixing, which is one of my favorite topics to teach in my workshops and classes and everywhere. I want to take you through a few pages of my book which is Gorgeous Quash. Yeah, I just want to take you through because it's so much more easier for you also to understand color theory and color mixing. This is something which we can go about for hours, like exploring colors and painting with colors. But I just wanted to give you small walk through of how I would recommend you to have an approach towards color mixing and understanding colors. Because I believe that using the right colors, having the right color palette for a painting makes huge difference. Like it just makes a lot of difference and it just enhances the painting that you want to paint. These are the beautiful colors that I've used for this lettering illustration. But imagine if I had painted this with different colors which are not so bright and not so like contrasting. And if it was dull colors. Can you imagine how this painting would look otherwise? Right now, it's looking very bright and beautiful and it has this vibrant energy. That's why I believe that colors play a very important role in my creative process. Choosing the color palette comes first before painting. I'll walk you through some of the pages of my book. As I said, I'll also help you and guide you on how to pick a color palette for today's painting. And also share more tips on how to choose colors and everything. Yeah, coming to this book, this is like the primary color, which I think most of you must be knowing if you've taken previous classes and all that. These are the primary colors, like red, the yellow, and the blue. These are the primary colors. And then when you mix these two colors and these two colors in different ratios, you get all these shades in between, which are the secondary colors. That's like the basic of the color wheel. Something that I would highly encourage everyone to take some time after this session. Right now, like we are not going to get into the details of this, but I would highly recommend that you take some time after the session is over or whenever your fee to take a journal, like any journal which is thick enough and just call it a color guide or something. Color book or color exploration book or anything, whatever you would like to name it, just title it that way and just start exploring with colors. Trust me, more than anything, like you can watch so many color mixing theories, color mixing lessons, videos on how to mix colors and everything. You can watch them all day long. But until and unless you understand them through your own perception and you understand colors in your own way, it's not going to help you in your painting much. That's why I say that If you want to learn colors and understand the beauty of colors and how to mix a beautiful color, palettes can take time to explore with colors. This is something that I did in the very initial creative journey, and that's why I think I've just got so good at colors that I always know what colors to pick. That's something that has come just exploring colors. And I hope that you understand colors just by exploring and just playing with color. So like I said, when you mix yellow and red, you get like different shades of orange. But I would also want you to explore, try mixing hues of yellow, which is the warm and cool and even warm red and cool red, which is crimson. And just mix in different ratios. So the amount of paint like the amount of yellow and the ratio of red paint gives a particular type of orange. Then when you keep increasing the ratio of the yellow or the red and just keep varying the ratios, you're going to get how many different colors of orange? If you mix yellow, red with white and different proportions, then you're going to get a whole new set of pastel orange colors. This is so much fun, and I would highly recommend you to try this when you're free next time. And also explore the same with mixing yellow and blue and blue and red. And look at the amount of colors that you can get by just mixing how many colors? Like six colors. Of course, with white, that is like seven colors. Just by mixing those colors, you're able to get a huge variety of colors. It's just like so beautiful. That's why I would recommend you to take time for color mixing and just learn it by yourself. Just by mixing like colors and just exploring. It's going to be very meditative and also it's going to be a huge learning process for you. So this is something I would highly recommend if you want to grow forward in your creative journey and become an artist and all that. This is something which is very important. Yeah. That's it. That's something, yeah. Once you understand that picking color palettes and making beautiful color palettes is going to be like so much more easier and you're going to have so much fun like picking colors before painting. This is something that I just wanted to quickly run through this if you are interested in also going through my book or something, it's available on Amazon, I think, almost all the countries. Yeah, Let's get back to the painting now. 6. How to build a colour palette: In this lesson, I want to teach you how you can prepare a beautiful color palette before starting the painting. And there are a few things that I would love for you to remember, not just for this class, but after this class and illustrations that you might explore. This is something which is going to be helpful for you in so many ways. Always get clear of your elements. The first step is always get clear of the elements. Like, I don't mean to say that, like this is the type of flower that I'll be painting and all. I'm not saying that, but I just mean to say that get clear of what elements are you going to have. Are you going to have a floral theme or are you going to have butterflies? Are you going to have more of a jungle theme or what is your theme? Just get clear on your theme for the painting, like illustration or something, then that becomes easier for you to build a color palette for this one. I knew that I want to paint on a dark background and I wanted some code and I wanted some flowers around it. If there are flowers, of course, leaves over there and some bad, so that you will need green color. That's a basic structure for you to understand what type of color palette you would need for your painting. I'll just give a quick walkthrough on how I decided on these colors for this painting. In my opinion, a good color palette is 8-9 Colors like that's decent enough for a painting to be very aesthetically pleasing to the eyes and very calming beyond that if there are too many colors. Of course, I'm not saying that there shouldn't be a lot of colors, but it's just that it just becomes too much of color. If you have set of eight to nine colors, or maybe even less, depending upon your theme that you want to paint, it's good for a painting going over here. The dark green is the background that I chose to paint with. On top of that, I wanted some pastel shades like. So I decided like, you know how I always go about it is like decide on a background color. If it's white, then you can skip deciding on the background color, but then decide on the colors that you would want the main elements to be. The main elements for me is flowers and the coat. So I wanted them to be in a contrasting shades, like a balance of dark colors and pastel colors. And also bright color that is white like you can. I've chosen peach, light blue, and then yellow to add some contrast. And then there are two different shades of pink, ones pastel and one is vibrant. You can see like how these choice of colors over this is just enhancing the whole painting itself. Then for the greens, I've chosen two shades of green, which is light and dark, so that it creates more contrast between the leaves. This is a very basic structure for you to pick a color palette if you're doing, let's say if you're doing on a white background or something like you don't have a background, then you can just decide on what colors do you want the florals to be. You want it to be in pastel colors or bright colors, it totally depends upon you. And then pick two to three shades of green color for the leaves. This applies for everything, even if it's a decide on what theme your sky will be. If you're painting a guash landscape, decide on what color scheme or what colors the skies will have. Is it a sunset sky? If yes, then you'll choose colors accordingly. If it's a bright blue sky, then you'll choose different shades of blue. And pick different shades for the landscape elements like the grass or the floral field or anything. That's something very basic. And I hope you find this helpful in not just this painting, but also your future wash paintings or any other. This is very basic and can be used in different mediums like water color, acrylic, and everything. Yes, let's move on to picking a color palette for today's painting, since we'll be painting on a black paper today. Just because it's very nice to paint on a black paper and the colors really pop up, that's why I'm choosing black paper. But if you want to experiment, you can also choose a white paper if you would like to paint. I'm just taking in some white paint, the curls. This is something which we'll be needing a lot. There's a lot of white paint over here. Let's start for the lettering. We'll be using white color. I'll just show a rough draft of what I created on my ipad. So this is a rough draft. The letter is going to be in white color and there'll be beautiful pastel color flowers and leaves in green shades. This is something that I plan. It's just a very rough draft. Yeah. I just wanted to show it to you so you understand what we're creating today. Let's make a color palette for our painting today. Now you understand that how it's when you know the elements that you want. It's easy to pick the color palette. Like for the lettering, I've chosen to have it in white. Color is the main color for the illustration. I'm just going to watch white over here. Then next is the floral elements. There'll be a few floral elements for which I want to go for a pastel theme. I'm going to mix white with pink to get pastel pink. If you don't have like, this is the best way to create pastel colors. Just white with any primary color. And then you'll be able to get pastel colors. One is going to be pastel, the first color, That's a lot of water. You'll also understand the consistency, why you paint. I'm just trying to take a little bit of more pink. If you don't have a direct pink color, you can take crimson red and then mix it with white and you'll get a pastel pink. And the second color is going to be a pistol orange color of which I'm taking orange and mixing it with some white. And then I also plan to have some tight yellow color. So I'll have some yellow over here and I'm going to swatch it. I'm slightly mixing it with pistol orange. The next color I'm going to take is a turquoise blue color, for which I have aqua green over here. I'm just going to mix it with a little bit of white. If you don't have this color, you can mix blue, white, and yellow. And add, you can adjust the proportion of the white color to get this beautiful blue color. We're going to add some low to this. This is why I say color mixing is very important because you get to understand colors even more better. I think I have the perfect shade of the blue that I want. Maybe a little bit of blue. Just add. Yeah, this is even more perfect. So just watch it over here. If you want another sheet of the same color, you can have a darker blue too. I think that's almost similar, but probably I'll just add dark green just without a fight. Okay, color mixing is a stage where you just really explore with the colors before you pain. Yeah, this is a bit backer, So I can have two variations of blue color. This is my color palette that I'll be using for the floor. One last color that I want to add is a very light orange, which is peach color. I've taken, I'm going to mix it with white. It becomes like a nice beige color, mixing it with a little bit of orange. As you can see, watch it over here, a little more of orange because it's looking white. In this step, like when you swatch the colors, you'll know that if it's too light or dark, these colors, which will behave very different on a black paper versus a white paper, it's always good to swatch the colors before. Yeah, this is a good enough shade. The last two colors is the green colors, for which I'm just going to mix this blue and some yellow and we'll see and maybe also white. Just mix it over here. This is a really nice green color. I'm just going to watch it bow a little more yellow. This is one green shade. For the next one, I'm just going to pick a little bit of more yellow and I'm going to mix it over here and add a little bit of blue and white. There you go, that's a beautiful green. If you want another additional color, like if you have a bright green in your palette like this one, you can probably take a little bit of bright green and mix it to this previous mix that we had to get. Bright color of green. This is how you pick a color palette. You can see how beautiful this color palette is, like the fit for the letters and then the other colors for the floral illustration. That's it. I hope you're excited just by looking at the color palette. You're excited to paint the final illustration. Let's get started and move on to the next. 7. Lets sketch the illustration: Before getting started with the painting, we're just going to roughly sketch with light color pencil. This is a white color pencil and I've just done the half of it. I've just written the code in the center. You can write any code that you want and draw some floral elements around it. I also added a sketch layout of the same illustration in the resources. You can download that and refer that for drawing out line. Before we get started with the painting part, I'm just roughly drawing all the floral elements. Once this part is done, it's then just sit back and just relax and enjoy the whole painting part. It's just that simple and it's very relaxing to paint bit. So once we're done with the sketching part, we can get started with the painting. 8. Lets Paint : Part 1 : Lettering : Now is the front part, which is just painting first. We'll start by painting the coat first in white color, for which I picked white color. And I'm just going to paint over it. And remember that throughout this next painting process is just for you to just totally enjoy and just let go of all the perfectionism. And even let go of the expectation that this has to turn out perfect. And let go of the expectations of the result. And just enjoy the process of painting because that is where true joy lies, right? Yes. Let's get started. Just start painting the letters first. I'm just going to add some music. You can just have fun while painting. I will also give some necessary instructions while we are painting together. The base guideline that we did with the sketching was just for us to get a idea of the composition. But you can modify however you want. You can make the letters or colorful. I'm painting the entire lettering in just one color. But if you want to paint every single letter in different color, that's totally up to you. You can do that. Also take time to do what makes your soul happy. Like I'm just realizing that it's just such beautiful coat and you're exactly doing that right now. Like you're taking time to paint this because this makes your soul happy. So it's such a beautiful coincidence while painting this, you can just be aware of the quash consistency of the paint you take. And I think it's much more easier for you to see it on a black paper than you can on a white paper. Because if the consistency is a bit thin and if there's more water, the paint will be a little bit transparent. To adjust the consistency, you can just simply add more paint well. I hope you're enjoying the process and it's very calming and relaxing for you. This is just the lettering, which is just like adding one layers. But if you want to make even the lettering more interesting, you can probably add more layers to this. Like you can add some center details, you can add some shadow. And but I just want to keep it simple. That's just one layer of white paint but there are so many possibilities that you can do. I'm using down six rush, but if you're not comfortable with, you know, the lettering part, especially for the cursive writing, then probably you can also switch to a thin line of rush. Something else that I also want to share is if you make any mistake while doing this lettering, like if any letter has become thick or anything, don't worry about that. After this white layered price, then probably you can take a black paint and then also cover any letter or any mistakes that you've made while painting. That's about a. This is a very simple lettering layout. I just wanted to keep it very simple, considering that there will be a lot of beginners who would be taking this class, that is where it is very simple. But you can also challenge yourself by having different layouts for the letter, which is more and more and a little bit complicated. So you can have those layouts. So I've finished the lettering part and there are a few places where it's become a little bit transparent. And I'm just going to paint over it after it, so it becomes more solid and more opaque. I'm just defining the letters a little bit more. We get more interesting, then next comes the fun part, which is to paint the floral elements. 9. Lets Paint : Part 2 - Florals : Now let's get started with the floral elements. I'll paint the big flowers and you can have your colors watches, next to you. It's easy for you to defer while we are painting. I'm going to also teach you how to balance the colors also. First, we'll start with the pink flower. Well, while painting on black paper, you will actually need to have a proper consistency of the paint. Because otherwise the black paper, it will be easily shown. But in white paper, because it's white, especially when you're painting pastel colors, it still pops out. I hope you're hearing what I'm trying to say and you'll be able to understand this. Like when you practice on a plain paper of white color, for all the elements that you've sketched, just give a base layer for now. And then we'll share how to add more layers to it and how to make the flowers look more beautiful. I'm going to balance the same pink flower on the opposite side, so that way the color is also balanced. I'll paint a pink flower over here. I just love the creamy texture of the paint. It's just relaxing and coming to paint. I hope you're enjoying too, just in case if you're using a very basic quality of ah paint, there are chances that it might not be opaque. You don't have to worry about that. All you need to do is just once after the initial layer is tried, you can add another layer of paint over it so that it becomes more opaque. The quality of go paints differs from every brand to brand. So I'm adding another layer of paint over here to make it more opaque. So I've painted two pink flordals to balance this. Next time you're going to take yellow color and then I'll paint some flotals in yellow color and palance yellow colors on both sides. So I'll paint yellow flowers over here. I'm just painting these flowers over here on this side, over here, I'm just going to paint a tiny butterfly yellow color just to balance the colors after picking the color palette. And wild painting, balancing the colors and making sure that all the colors are evenly spread out throughout the painting is also very important to make it a beautiful painting. I'm done with the flowers and I'm just trying to paint a tiny little butterfly over here on this slide. I'm going paint one over here also on the top. And the same yellow color can be put at the center of the flower. You can see how beautifully it's just turning out like as we fill in more colors. The next color that I'm choosing is orange pastel. Orange color for which I'm taking orange paint and mixing some white pine. And then I'll paint the pick flower which is on top. So the flowers that we are painting now is just a very basic, you can add as many as details you want later on we. So after painting this, I'm going to paint some orange flower at the bottom, Just again to balance the colors while painting the flowers. You can also try the wet in wet technique, like while the paint is still wet, If you want to add shades or something, that you can just put in some orange paint while the layer is wet. Just like keep in defer like how I'm doing it over here just to add more colors and contrast to the painting. That's why I say that wash endless possibilities. Even with the smallest thing, there's so much that you can do and there's a lot of possibilities and a lot of different ways to paint and explore. That's why certainly it is very addictive and it's easy to just get used to and fall in love with. I hope that this lesson today makes you fall in love with. It's now doing the same with the bottom flower also. And just adding yellow to add more colors and contrast to the slow. I'm really loving it so far and I hope you are too. And in the center of the orange flower, I'm just going to add some blue color over here. And I'm moving on to painting the blue flowers. If you're finding it very tricky to get the consistency of the gauche paint, then no problem like allow it to dry the first layer to dry and then you can paint over it again to make it more and to balance the blue color. At the bottom painting some blue flowers at the top. This part of the painting is just very relaxing that you can get lost into the painting part. I'm just reminding myself that it's just not a painting session, but I'm teaching it, so I need to also, you don't give instructions. It's relaxing and meditative. I hope that you're experiencing that right now while you're painting this, sometimes even if you're painted it very opaque, after it dries, it might become a little bit transparent. It depends from color to color and the pigments that are used in the paint. If that happens, then you can just simply paint over it again, just like how I'm doing it right now. But sometimes some people, they like the transparency of the pain and also the opacity together. If that is the case, and if you already like how it is, then it's totally fine. There's no rule that everything should be solid and opaque. It's totally up to you on how you personally like it because has no rules. Some being to paint some astl flowers over here. And while you're painting, if you're intuitively inocated to add some colors in different places, you can ptly follow that. You don't necessarily have to follow what I'm painting and just go with the flow. Well the last few flowers left and then go to painting the leaves and then finally shared out more detail street painting. I just sagging tiny blue flower over here which I missed painting next style. Go head to painting the leaves in different P shades. 10. Lets Paint : Part 3 - Leaves : Before painting, you can always test your colors over here and see if it's the same colors that you picked for your color palette. The leaves. Either you can paint some of the leaves in light green and then some in bright green, or you can paint like one single leaf in half green and light green and dark. It's totally up to you how you want to fill in these colors. Oh, so I'm painting half of the leaves in light green and some mile paint and darkening. You can see just by adding more and more colors, the whole illustration is just coming so lively and it is just so beautiful. I've been painting everything with just one single brush, which is the round six leaves. If you are not comfortable with painting leaves with a round six brush, you can switch to a thinner brush to, since this has a lot of elements, it's just taking a while to paint, but it's very relaxing. I hope you're not minding the time that it's taking to paint. I've painted half of the leaves in light green. Next, just going to paint some darker green. I'm really loving the contrast of the bright colors and all the pasted colors. I'm just painting the basic stems of the little flowers also. I think itself already looks pretty even without adding more details. Yeah, we will add some tiny details. So now comes the final part which is adding more details. And I'm just going to add pink to these puts over here. And then also add some molting paint over here. Also, if you feel that any place if the paint has become a little bit transparent after it's dried up, then you can add more paint to that, my y details like I'm just adding for the butter. It's tricky sometimes. 11. Final Touches and details : Moving on to the final parts of the detailing. I'm just going to use white paint for adding all the details. I love it, how it looks already like this. Let's add some details though. I'm going to add some white details like this in the flowers in the center of the flower. And in some flower I'm just going to draw these very thin lines. Then adding details in the center. You can just observe just by adding a few details how much you know the beauty of this flow enhanced. I'm going to do the same for the orange flower over here. When it comes to detailing, there are like endless possibilities. You can add like so many more details to the floral elements. Yes, it requires a bit of patience while adding these details. For adding details, not necessarily, you only need to use white color. You can also use the darker shade of that color to add some details. Like here on the pastel orange flower, I'm just adding some dark orange and creating some details. I'm slightly just painting over the white lines that I did. It just looks more enhanced two to the same flower over here. Basically, details is just adding more layers to the base layers and you can do it in any way that you want. There is no proper rules or proper ways to do it, is just how you feel like you want to add those details. So for this flower over here, I'm just painting some dark ordine without adding wide details. And then just in the center, I'm just adding beautiful bit of white. I'm going ahead to all the flowers and adding some white details. You can also add to the buds over here and also to these half blooming flowers. I feel that some places the white line became thick. So I'm just going to repaint over it just to correct it. That's the plus point of wash. You can just repaint and correct anytime you want. I just to add some final touches. I'm just going to paint these white dots here and there just to balance the space and also the white color. It's these little details that matter a lot in a painting. That's it. This is the final painting, and I hope you enjoyed painting with me. And I've also added some final details after entire layer was dried. Yes, I really love how this looks and I hope this session inspires you to paint more paintings and explore so many different illustrations, and paint more like this, and just explore your creativity. 12. Bonus 1 : More Projects : As promised. Here's your first bonus for this class, which is quash lettering illustrations, where you can learn how to paint such quarters illustrations step by step. You can find it in the projects and resources section, and I've highlighted it over here so that it's easy for you to find. I hope you find this resource helpful for you and exploring more such quash illustrations. 13. Bonus 2 : How to seal Gouache Paintings : Here's the second bonus. As promised, in this bonus, I'm going to share how you can seal your quash paintings. Because you must be knowing by now that if you put water on your, uh, paintings, after it's tried, it's very easy for the paint to get reactivated again. If you accidentally spill some water, it's just going to ruin the painting. The best way to preserve your paintings for a longer time is to seal your artwork. There are different ways to seal your quash paintings also. This can be very helpful if you want to sell your quash paintings or if you want it to gift it to someone. Or if you're painting a quash illustration on a greeting car and you just wanted to give it to someone. In all these things, sealing your quash paintings is going to be very helpful. There are different ways to seal a, uh, painting. There are different varnishes, liquid spray, and also these wax varnishes, which you can apply. But what I've found the best and what I personally use is a picture varnish. This is just basically a varnish, prey that can be used on acrylics. You can use a Warnish, that is for acrylics or even for charcoal pencils or anything that would perfectly work for it. I like to go for a matt finish because that will retain the quality and the texture of the wash the way it is. Because H is a mat finish, if you go for glossy, your painting is going to look different. I prefer using a mat finish. Warnish what you have to do is just take the spray varnish and spray it over your painting. And be careful that whenever you are using a spray varnish, always do it in outdoors because it has these chemicals that is there. And when you, uh, spray in an indoor or an air conditioning room, it's very difficult for you to breathe and it's toxic for you to be breathing this indoor. I do it in an open space, maybe a balcony or somewhere outdoors where you can just varnish and leave it there for some time and then bring it back in. So I'm just going to varnish it over here. And so this is how it's going to look. And once it's dry, it's going to look very Matt finished. I'll just allow this to dry and I'll show it to you how beautifully this looks, even after varnish. I'm sharing this after the varnish is tried and you can see how the matt finish of the quash is still the same and now you're painting is waterproof and it's completely sealed. I hope you found this master class and both the bonuses very helpful for you and mastering. I'll see you in another class of mine. Bye.
