Draw Beautiful Snowflakes: Quick & Easy Line Art for Beginners

1. Intro & Tools: Hello everybody. I'm Jon and I'm gonna be teaching knew how to draw snowflakes in the class. I'd like to do simple line drawings of castles and trees and all sorts of different things. If you haven't seen them already, be sure to check out my other classes after you're done here and find out some more things to draw. So let's get into today's Join. Today we are going to be learning how to draw snowflakes. These are great for winters themed cards and letters and other decorations. So let's get right into it. So a few things you'll need for this. A sketchbook that can be a just a piece of paper or small sketchbook. I use a large sketchbook with some large sheets of paper, normal-sized. And you'll also need a pencil and eraser and a felt tip pen is what I like to use for the simple line drawings. So let's get right into it. 2. Part 1: Simple Designs: And get started with some little snowflakes here. So the most easiest way to make a snowflake is just to make little dots. And you can put these all around randomly on your piece of paper. And it gives kind of a snow effect. And you can also vary the size of these dots, so making them a little bit bigger. We'll give you a little bit bigger sized flakes. And then we will make little circles. And this will make it look like the inside of the flake is white. And again, you can vary the size of these, making them larger or smaller. Another type of snowflake we can do is simply drawing a little x like that. And just very Those all around the paper. And again, we can vary the size of those, making them larger and smaller. Their type of snowflake is the six-pointed one. And we will just draw one line like that. And then another one there, and another one there. So you're dividing this other one kind of into thirds. Again, you can vary the size of these, making them different sizes. And you want to try to keep your lines as even as possible in a circular shape. So this one here is a little long and sometimes they'll get a little off. So it's good to practice this. And if you're making it for custom card or something, I would recommend trying it in with pencil first. So you make sure your lines are all even. And that will give you a pretty good end result. Alright, another type of snowflake here we can do is an eight-sided one. So for this one, we will draw an X and then we will draw another X. And the opposite of the first x. And that will give us eight points for this snowflake. So making it an x. And then we're gonna put another x over that one. 3. Part 2: Adding Details: All right, to give our snowflakes are little more variation. We can add more details. So I'm gonna make a little v on the end of all these points. And that will give our snowflake, those special variations. So simply make your six-pointed snowflake. And then on each of these points, we will just draw a little V-shape on the tip of it. And there we have another type of snowflake. So I'll make this a little larger. So you can see, you can make two movies on that 0.2 V's on this point. So we're just gonna go round on every single one and add two little v's working our way all the way around, movies at the tip. Or you can go on each of these points individually are another thing we can add. For some more detail. We can add those little v's. And then just add a little diamond out at the tip of the snowflake. So on the tip of each of these, we're going to make a little diamond shape. Make another six pointed one here. Another way to do this is making a little circle at the end of each point. And that gives you another type of snowflake. And then you can add these different details together, making those little circles at the end. And then you can add those little v-shaped on each of the points. And then I'll give you another type. Okay, so for this one we're going to make a little point. We will make a V-shape like so. And then just add those little v-shaped out at that point. You can also do this with eight sided snowflakes. Through just create a eight sided snowflake. You can pick any one of these designs and mix and match if you want, and put that on this snowflake. So I'm going to do these little v's on the inside and then I'm going to add little fees on the tips of them. 4. Part 3: Varying Details: Another thing we can do here is add a circle in the middle and then just make six points off of that circle. So divide your circle into six sections and draw a little line and each one of those. And then again, just adding those little v details. And there you have another type of snowflake. So another type is to make a little box and then make a box in the other direction. And then you'll just draw a point off of each of the sides of the box. And then off of those side as well. And then just add those little v's like we made on the other ones. So you can see there's a lot of different ways to make a snowflake. There's very near details on the snowflake, starting off with a four-sided, six-sided or eight sided. So they are even are another type of snowflake here at our little v's and the middle. And then between each of these, we're going to make a straight line and connect each of them together. So we have a six-sided shape and then just add those little v's we had on our simple snowflake to make a little star shape in here, six-sided star shape. And draw your lines out from that point there. And then again, just adding those little v shapes or you can make circles or diamonds on the end each of your points, as you can see, there is a lot of different ways you can make a snowflake. Is we can mate little arrows. So just grab a sheet of paper and you can come up with any design on your own, just mix them up and see which ones you like. So that would be another way to make a snowflake, making those v's in the other direction. And little v's in between each of these lines for the center of my snowflake. And then just do a little diamond shape on the end of these. And then just doing a double V on each of these points. And we could add a little circle at the end of this. Alright, so there you can see, you can make any type of snowflake by just varying the details on it and mixing and matching those little details. And really use your creativity to make up any design you like. 5. Snowflakes Project: Alright, so that's about it for this class.
