Draw a Medieval Castle in Simple Line Art

1. Intro & What To Use: Hello. I'm John, and I'm going to show you how to draw a simple castle. It's pretty quick and easy. Drawing is a fun and relaxing way to grow your creativity. And I hope you learn a new skill or style of drawing. I will show you what pens and pencils I'd like to use as well as different types of shading and more. Let's get started. All right. First off, you're gonna need some drying utensils. Can use a number two pencil, a mechanical pencil. I like to use mechanical pencils. They get better detail. They come in a few different sizes. I use 0.7 or 0.5 a lot. Also for drawing. We use fine later pains. They come in a bunch of different sizes. This is Micron pen. It is Ah 005 Another pain is the 01 A Sharpie pen is a prime minor thes. Three different pins have different line thicknesses, so if you want to get finer detail, you will use the smallest one for normal drawing that I do. I use the Sharpie pen going to be larger and larger as they go up the pin size for paper types. There are a lot of different paper types out there. I'm not going to go and tell that I like to use a sketchbook or doodle pad. Since I am not always able to drawing a desk trying to bring a little pad like this, you're also going to need a flat drawing surface, like a desk or a table, or when you're out and about, you can just draw on your lap. If you have a sturdy pad like this, with quite a few pages in, it saps up gives you a pretty sturdy drawing surface. 2. Outlining & Details: all right for this trying. We're just gonna use our doodle pad or sketch paper, and we're going to start out with the mechanical pencil. We're gonna make a foundation for a castle to sit on. So first we're going to start off with drawing towers normally round towers on Castle's. This allows the defenders that air in the tower to protect the center wall and the gate from an attack. So here we have one drawing and look like that, and we'll draw another one right over here about the same width and height as the other tower. Next, we're gonna draw the walls and battlements. As you see here. We've drawn the battlements on top of the tower. So now we just need that center war or a curtain wall that connects in between the two towers and we'll draw our battlements on here. Our settlements are rectangular gaps or indentations that hide the defenders from Attackers and give it the castle. Look, you'll see a lot of castles have battlements. Next word draw arrow slits. These are small, narrow slits that allow archers to shoot from, and they can shoot from behind these small slits without being seen from the Attackers on the outside that hides them from view next to a draw. A gateway we would draw. Porter. Cool s in here, which is simply a cross section. It looks like this Porter Coolest would be dropped down to protect a gateway. And oftentimes there would be a gate behind the Porter, Coolest and then another particle. If that way of people got in, they would drop. The protocol is on the inside, and the Attackers would run up and be stuck. And they dropped the one on the outside, and the Attackers would be in between them. And they would drop all sorts of nasty things on them, and they wouldn't be able to escape being trapped in the cage. Next, we're going to draw our soldiers or nights on the top to guard the castle. They look like this. This is that very common soldier. I like to draw the castle. Guards protect Castle, of course. From an attack from procedures, we give them spears next to a draw. Flag flag goes up on the castle tower. Looks like that 3. Filling in with Pen: All right. Now we will fill this in with our pen. First, you will draw our ground line. Then we will fill in the castle. Fill in all our little details that we drew with our pencil. Draw in. Our little soldiers are other Tower Over here. You can straighten up these lines with your pencil and eraser. Or you can leave them cooking and make them straight with your pin. If you have a steady hand, finish off this tower and battlements up here. Last arrow slits fill in the last two soldiers and our flag that's a little bit. Here is our curtain wall connecting the two towers together and our gateway with the particle lists, all right. 4. The Stonework: Now we're ready to work on our stonework on the castle. These air, simply little lines. You alternate them back and forth and that gives it a stone appearance. You work your way all the way down, Tower across the wall, over the gate. Remember to alternate them back and forth as you work your way down and across and worker way down our last tower. Here, This can be a fun little drawing. If you have a minute in the day, you can change up the styles and everything. Make the towers fat, Narrow toll or short you could make your wall was really long or really short, with lots of towers in the castle, all sorts of variations. And there we go. We have our castle stonework finished. 5. Shading the Castle: Lastly, we're gonna work on shading, therefore different styles of shading. We have hatch, which is 19 coming out from the opposite side of our like crosshatch. One hurt going this right in the opposite direction. That gives it a darker appearance. Stippling, which is a bunch of little tiny dots. And the closer they get to the upset corner of the light, they're darker. And as you work your way out, you do fewer and less duct scribbles, just simply scribbling darker as you work your way to the edge and lightning it up. As you work your way out on our castle here, we're going to use cross hat so we will start and pretend our light is coming from over here. We will start over here and start making our crosshatch first. We're in the use just hatched down like this starting from EJ and lifting are penned up as we come out from the edge making little lines like that. They get thinner as you lift up and we're going to go the opposite direction working our way back up, spacing them pretty evenly, evenly as you can, and that gives us a shaded look we're gonna do that here on our second tower, drawing from the edge and lifting her pen up as we go out makes it look like it is a shadow on that side of the castle. No work our way back up, going the opposite direction that we did when we came down. And keep them as evenly spaced as you can. Ad a little hatch on this side of the tower on this wall because this tower comes out from the war. That's it for our castle drawing. Lastly, you can go over it where your pencil marks of show up and erase those pencil marks. 6. Castle Project: for the project. I want you to draw a simple castle like this. First outlined it with your pencil, then draw everything in with your pen, just two towers and a wall connecting them and battlements on top. You can add a roast. Let's if you want in a gate and then I want you shaded in. Once you're finished, you can upload it to the Project Gallery and share it with everyone else to see what castle you made. Then I want you to practice designing your own castles. You can draw them in all sorts of different shapes and sizes. You can make wide towers and narrow towers, tallest towers and short towers. Long wasn't short lost. You can add two or three dates to Big Castle. You can add more flags. You can even layer the castles so you have a keep on the inside of the castle.
