DIY Leathercraft: How To Make A Leather Bow Tie (Wedding or Christmas Outfit) Intro to sewing

1. Introduction: Hello, I'm [inaudible] a Dutch fashion designer with a passion for sustainable products. I started a brand called Piple focuses on upcycled fashion into timeless designs, like this leather bow tie. You can make this one for an adult or a child. In this class, I teach you step-by-step how to make this amazing leather bow tie. It's not hard to find good quality leather because for example, you can upcycle it out of an old leather jacket. You make from something that is old and broken, a timeless design that lasts forever. This is so much fun. You need a few special tools before you can start making this leather bow tie. You need a cardboard or strong paper, strong scissors, small yarn scissors, a ruler, a marker,Velcro tape, leather, sewing thread. Make sure the sewing thread is almost the same color as your leather. A sewing machine, leather needles, and for extra, small pliers. 3. Making the pattern | Adult Bow Tie|: Making the pattern, you start drawing the pattern on the cardboard or strong paper. The pattern is actually a really simple. You only need to draw a rectangle from 5.5 by 22.5 centimeters. That is 2.2 by nine inches. Take your marker and the ruler and draw this pattern on the cardboard or strong paper and cut this out. Cut out a piece of leather and draw the pattern on the leather. You need to draw the pattern two times on the leather. After this, you draw the middle section and the neck band on the leather. You start with a middle section. This is two by seven centimeters, 0.8 by 2.7 inches. Now the neck bands, this is two times two by 30 centimeters, so 0.8 by 11.8 inches. Cut out all the pieces carefully. Now you need 10 centimeters to four inches of the fair pro tape from both sides. Take one piece on the good side of the leather and the other one on the other side of the leather. These are all the pieces you need to make your bow tie. 4. Cutting out | Adult Bow Tie |: Making a pattern. You start drawing the pattern on the cardboard or strong paper. The pattern is actually really simple. You only need to draw a rectangle, from 5.5 by 22.5 centimeters, so that is 2.2 by 9 inches. Take your marker and the ruler, and draw this pattern on the cardboard or strong paper, and cut this out. Cut out a piece of leather and draw the pattern on the leather. You need to draw the pattern two times on the leather. After this, you draw the middle section and the neck band on the leather. You start with the middle section. This is 2 by 7 centimeters, so 0.8 by 2.7 inches, and now the neck bands. This is two times, 2 by 30 centimeters, so 0.8 by 11.8 inches. Cut out all the pieces carefully. Now you need 10 centimeters, so four inches of the Velcro tape, from both sides. Take one piece on the good side of the leather and the other one on the other side. These are all the pieces you need to make your bow tie. 5. Sewing | Adult Bow Tie |: Sewing, for me the most fun part. Make sure your sewing machine is ready. We are going to sew all the pieces together like a puzzle. You start with the two rectangles, you sew the short ends on each other. I sew them twice because it's stronger and I can make a knot at the ends. Now you take the middle section. You start with sewing the outside that is one millimeter from the ends. So this is 0.04 inches. After this, you put the right sides on each other and sew the top together. Also do this twice so you make sure it's strong enough. Also make a knot at the ends. Now we are going to make the bow tie by putting the pieces together. You take the two rectangles and put them together with the right sides facing the outside. You double it twice, and pay attention to how I do this. You take the middle section and slide it over the two pieces. Maybe the small pliers can help you and so do this carefully and take your time. Now you take the neck bands and you sew the outsides. So one millimeter, 0.04 inches from the edge. Sew the middle piece and the ends together. Make sure you put the right sides together. You need a Velcro tape on the outside and on the inside. Gently put a neck trap through middle section. It's easier to use your small players. But also take your time and do this carefully. Now the bow tie is finished. In the next video, I'll show you how you can make the same bow tie for a little child. 6. Making the pattern | Kids Bow Tie |: Making the pattern for the kids bow tie. You start drawing the pattern on the cardboard or strong paper. The pattern is really simple. You only need to draw a rectangle with the dimensions of six by 18 centimeters. This is two by seven inches. Draw this pattern on the cardboard or strong paper with your ruler, and cut this out. Cut out a piece of leather, for example, out of an old jacket. Draw the pattern with marker on the leather, and for the kids bow tie, you only need one rectangle. Now we're going to draw the middle section and the neck bend also on the leather. We start with the neck bend. Draw a line with your marker from 30 by 1.5 centimeters. This is 11.8 by 0.06 inches, and for the middle section, a line from six by 1.5 centimeters. This is 2.4 by 0.06 inches. Cut out all the pieces. Now you need to [inaudible] tape. You need four centimeters, so 1.6 inches. Stick one on the outside and one on the inside of the ladder, and cut out the leftovers. Now you have all the pieces you need to make this cute little bow tie. 7. Sewing | Kids Bow Tie |: Sewing the kids bow tie. We are going to sew all the pieces together, like a puzzle. Start with a rectangle, you sew assured ends on each other. Sew them twice because it's stronger and you can make a knot at the ends. Now you take the middle section, you sew the outsides that is one millimeter from the edge. This is 0.04 inches. Sew the ends together and make sure this is strong enough because there is a lot of pressure on it. Now you make the bow tie by putting all the pieces together. You take your rectangle and you double it twice. Pay attention to how I do this. You take the middle section and slide it over the rectangle, may be the small pliers can help you. Do this carefully and take your time. Take the neck band and sew the outsides. That is one millimeter, so 0.04 inches from the edge. Gently put a neck bend through the middle section. It is easier to use your small pliers, but also take your time and do this carefully. Now the bow tie for a little kid is finished. 8.
