About This Class

Welcome to the Designing Buildings, Interiors, and Furniture with SketchUp course, a project based class that teaches you how to model building exteriors, interior spaces, and custom furniture. You will begin by learning the fundamentals of SketchUp, including its use cases and key features. Next, you will practice drawing basic shapes and setting precise measurements before transforming them into 3D objects using tools like Push/Pull, Move, Rotate, and Scale. After mastering the basics, you will design building exteriors, from a simple one-story house to a modern office building and bus stop. You will then create interior layouts such as a bedroom, bathroom, home office, and kitchen, as well as arranging furniture to achieve functional and visually pleasing designs. Finally, you will model custom furniture pieces and bring all your designs into virtual reality, allowing you to evaluate proportions, spatial flow, and details in an immersive 3D environment.

Before getting into the course, we need to ask this question to ourselves, why should we design building exteriors and interiors using SketchUp? Well, here is my answer, SketchUp is an intuitive and versatile tool that allows us to create detailed 3D models quickly and efficiently, making it ideal for architects, interior designers, and urban planners. Beyond just using the software, mastering design skills is equally important, as it sharpens our ability to plan layouts effectively, optimise space utilisation, and create functional yet visually appealing environments.

Below are things that you can expect to learn from this course:

1. Introduction: Hello guys, are you interested in designing buildings, interior and furniture using SketsU If the answer is yes, then this course might be for you. In this course, we are going to have ten projects. In the first project, we are going to design one story house. Look at this. In the second project, we are going to design office buildings. Look at this. In the third project, we are going to design a bus stop. In the fourth project, we are going to design a moderate and minimalist bedroom. In the fifth project, we are going to design a bunk bed that can accommodate three people. In the sixth project, we are going to design a kitchen interior. Look at this. In the seventh project, we are going to design a home office. In the eighth project, we are going to design a bathroom. We are going to have a toilet, a sink, a bathtub, and also a small swimming pool. Next, we are also going to design a chair and a sofa. In the last project, we are going to design a dining table. Look at this. Then after that, we are also going to generate interior design using Copernik AI. The process is very simple. You just need to type in the prom and click Generate, and in less than a minute, AI is going to generate you a virtual reality. Look at this. This is interior design for a coffee 2. Tools & Resources: Hello, guys. Welcome back to the course. In this video, we are going to get to know more about all tools that we are going to use in this course. Okay, let's get started with the first one, SketsU. Let's click on this link and you will be redirected to this website. SketsU is one of the most popular software for architecture, interior design and construction engineering. There are many things that you can do with SketsU. For example, you can do Tree Dmdeling. You can visualize your design, look at this, and still many more. Let's click on Industries and Let's like Architecture. Let's scroll down a little bit. You can create Constructions document. Look at this. You can use pre build treaty models, so you don't need to design from scratch, guys. There is a treaty warehouse where you can find and download pre made models. You can use it and customize it however you want. There are many third party extensions. You can bend geometry with a single click. You can create photorealistic rendering. You can also generate cost estimates by exporting reports directly from your treaty architecture drawings. This feature is going to be very useful, especially if you want to estimate the cost of the project. If you want to use SketsU, you have two options. The first option is to download the software locally. There are two versions, Make OS and Windows. Make sure that you download whichever version that aligns with your operating system. For example, in my case, I'm using MacBook. So obviously, I'm going to download the Make OS version. And the second option is SketsUF web. You don't need to download anything. You are going to design the TD model in your browser. And don't worry you guys, SketsOp is completely free to use. Let's click on pricing, and let's scroll down a little bit as you guys can see SketsUp offers a free plan. Obviously, there are some limitations when it comes to the free plan. For example, you can only export your design to these three file types, SKP, PNG, and STL. Okay, now let's go back to the slide, and let's move on to the second tool. Polygont. Let's click on this link, and you will be redirected to this page. Polygon is a platform where you can find and download premade three D models. And you can reuse the model. You can customize it however you want. You can change the color. You can change the texture. You can modify the shape. You can do whatever you want, guys. And sometimes you don't want to start from scratch. You want to save time, right? So finding pre made tree D models from polygon is a great idea. There are many things that you can find in polygon. You can find texture, for example, a brick texture. Look at this or a concrete texture. Look at this. Very cool, right? You can find a variety of three D models. For example, three D models for dining room. Look at this. We have bowl, cup models, drinking glass, dining plates, and still many more or decorations. Look at this. Or Kitchen. Look at this. There are many options, right? There are many free three models that you can download. Look at this. And in this course, we are going to use SketsUp, so we will need to download the SketSU extension. So let's click this and just click this. And don't worry, guys. Polygon is completely free to use. Let's click on pricing, as you guys can see polygon offers a free plant. This is in my local currency. Okay, now, let's go back to the slide and let's move on to the third tool, BIM Object. Let's click on this link and you will be redirected to this website. Well, BIM object is very similar to polygont. You can find many high quality pre made treD models. There are many categories. Let's click this. For example, constructions, doors, electrical, electronics, engineering, and infrastructure. What else? Fabrics, flooring, furniture, kitchen, landscaping, lighting, medical plumbing, sanitary, and still many more. When you are searching for the TD model, you can filter by the software, for example, in this case, we're going to use SketsU. So let's click this. And let's click Search. You can also type in the keyword. So all these Tree D models are models suitable for sketsU guys. And don't worry. BIM object is completely free. You just need to sign up. Okay, now, let's go back to the slide, and let's move on to the four tool. Simlab. Let's click on this link, and it will be redirected to this page. We are going to use Simlab for viewing the Tre designs in virtual reality environment. Let's click products, and let's like Simlab composer. You will be redirected to this page and to integrate the three D model to virtual reality environment, you just need to download the model from SketsUp and upload it to Simlab and it is going to look like this, guys. Very cool, right? So the process is very simple. And don't worry, Simlab is completely free to use. Let's click on pricing as you guys can see Simlab offers a free plant. Look at this. Okay, I think that's it. That's all you need to know. I'll see you guys in the next video. Bye. 3. Drawing Basic Shapes in SketchUp: Holy guys. Welcome back to the course. In this video, we are going to learn how to draw basic shapes in SketsU and not only that, we are also going to set exact measurements to make sure the shape is symmetrical and proportional. Okay, now, let's get started. Firstly, click Start modeling, and you will be redirected to this page. It might take few seconds to load, so just wait guys. Hopefully, it doesn't take too long. And let's click start modeling. Let's get started, guys. Firstly, I'm going to remove this present. So let's click on the Eraser tool and let's remove it. Make sure that you pay very close attention to this video because it is very important for you to understand the basic concepts. Okay, firstly, we are going to draw a straight line. Let's click on the pencil icon, and let's draw a straight line. It is very easy. Look at this. And I'm going to draw another straight line. Here we go. Very easy, right? Next, we are going to draw a rectangle. Let's click on the rectangle icon right here, and let's draw the rectangle. I'm going to put it right here. Okay, so here is the rectangle. If you want to set exact measurement for this rectangle, all you need to do is to type in the number. For example, I want the dimension to be 50. So just type in 50 guys, and let's hit Enter. Okay, here we go. Okay, next, we are going to draw a circle. Let's click on circle icon. If you are not able to find this circle icon, just click this and just click circle. And I'm going to draw the circle right here. If you want to set radius for the circle, just type in the number. For example, 25, and let's hit Enter. Okay, now the circle is getting smaller. Next, we are going to draw a polygond. Let's click this and let's select polygond I'm going to draw the polygon right here. And if you want to set exact measurement for this polygon, just type in any number that you want, for example, 35, and let's hit Enter. Now the polygon is getting smaller. Next, we are going to change the color of the shape. For example, I'm going to change the color of the rectangle to blue. Let's select the rectangle and let's click Matrials and I'm going to select blue, and let's click on the rectangle. Now the color is dark blue. Next, we are going to change the color of the circle. Let's select the circle and let's click on Materials and I'm going to change the color to brown. Let's click on the circle. Now the color is brown. And lastly, we are going to change the color of the polygon. Let's select the polygond Make sure that you unselect the circle because if you are still selecting the circle, then the color will also be applied to the circle. We don't want that to happen. Let's click matrials and I'm going to change the color to black. Let's click this and let's click on the polygon. Now the color is black. Okay, guys, we have successfully changed the color of the shapes. I think that's it. That's all you need to know. I'll see you guys in the next video. Bye. 4. Creating 3D Objects in SketchUp: Hello, guys. Welcome back to the course. In this video, we are going to learn how to create basic three D models in SketsU. Well, actually, it is very easy. I'm going to teach you step by step. Okay, firstly, we are going to create a cube or a beam. So let's get started with a rectangle. So let's select the rectangle tool. And let's create a rectangle right here. Okay, next, we are going to use pull and push tools. So let's click this. And let's pull this up. Okay, now we have a beam. Look at this. You can pull it. You can also push. Okay, next, we are going to create a cylinder. Actually, the process is very similar guys. We are going to get started with a circle. Let's click this and let's click Circle. I'm going to draw a circle right here. Not too small, but also not too big. And let's use the pull and push tool. So let's click this, and we're going to pull it up. Okay, now we have a cylinder, very cool, right? Next, we are going to create sirs. Okay, let's get started with a small rectangle. So let's create a small rectangle right here, and we are going to utilize push and pull tool. So let's click this and let's pull this up a little bit. And let's create another rectangle. Make sure it has the same size. And we are going to use the push and pull tool again. And let's pull this up a little bit. And let's do the same thing over and over, guys. Let's create another rectangle. Make sure the size is the same. And we are going to use the push and pull tool again. So let's pull this up. Okay, we are going to create two more. Let's repeat the process two more times. So let's create another rectangle. Make sure the size is the same, and we are going to use the push and pull tools. And let's pull this up a little bit. And let's do it once again. Let's create another rectangle. And we are going to use the push and pull tools, and let's pull this up a little bit. Okay, now we have five stairs. Very cool. If you want to download this design, just click this and just Export, and there are many file formats like whichever file format that you want. And you can also download this design as an image. I'm going to select PNG. And let's click Export as PNG. It will take few seconds, maybe five or 10 seconds. Okay, we have successfully downloaded this image. Okay, guys, I think that's it. That's all you need to know. I'll see you guys in the next video. Bye. 5. Move, Rotate, Scale, Group, and Component: Hello, guys. Welcome back to the course. In this video, we are going to learn the basic tools like move, rotate, scale group and components. It is very essential for you to understand these basic tools and also know when to use it. Okay, now, let's get started. I'm going to remove this person. So let's click on the eraser tool and let's remove him. Okay, next, we are going to create three objects. Firstly, I'm going to create a cube. Let's get started with a square and we are going to utilize push and pull tools, and let's pull this up. Okay, now we have a cube. Very cool. Next, we are going to create a triangular prism. We are going to create a triangle first, and we're going to use push and pull tool. Okay, let's draw a triangle. Okay, here is the triangle and we are going to use push pull tool. Let's pull it up. Okay, now we have a triangular prism. Let's create another tried object. We are going to create a small cylinder and it's going to look like a pipe. We are going to get started with a very small circle. Let's click circle. Okay, now we are going to use push pull tool. But before that, make sure that you already selected the circle. And let's pull this up. Okay, now we have a small pi. Let's talk about the first tool. The name of the tool is move. Look at this icon. You can use Move tool for repositioning objects or geometry. For example, if you want to move a cube from the left side to the right side, you can use this tool. Okay, let me show you how to do it. Firstly, make sure that you select the object. In this case. We are going to select the cube. And let's click Move tool. And you can move the cube to the left. You can move it to the right. You can move it to the bottom. You can move it to the top. You can do whatever you want, guys. It is very easy, right? Okay, now let's talk about the second tool. Rotate. This is rotate icon, guys. You can use Rotate tool for turning objects around a pivot point. For example, you can rotate a ceiling fan 90 degrees to align it with the room layout. Okay, now let me show you how to use it. Firstly, you will need to select the object that you want to rotate. In this example, we are going to rotate this triangular prism. Let's like these objects. Next, I'm going to click on the Rotate icon, so let's click this Okay, now we are able to rotate the triangular prism. Look at this. Very cool, right? Okay, I'm going to put it back in its original positions. And now let's talk about the turtle scale. This is the icon guys. You can use scale for resizing objects proportionally or done proportionally. For example, you can scale the size of this pipe so it can accommodate larger volume. Okay, let's do it. Firstly, you will need to select the pipe, and let's click Scale. Okay, I can make it larger. I can make it smaller. Look at this. And the size is proportional, guys. Okay, I'm going to make bigger. Here we go. Okay, now let's talk about the fourth tool. The name of the tool is group. You can use group for combining multiple elements into a single editable unit. For example, you want to group these three objects together. So when you move the object, it will move all of these three. You don't need to move it one by one. Okay, now let me show you how to do it. The first thing that you need to do is to select all these three objects. Next, we are going to click on this icon, and let's type in group. And we are going to click Make Group. But before that, just make sure that you have selected all these three objects. Okay, let's click this. As you guys can see, we have successfully grouped these three objects. So if I want to move these objects, I don't need to do it one by one. I just need to click Move, and if I move it to the left or to the right, all these three objects will follow. Okay, now let's talk about the last one. Component. You can use component for creating reusable editable elements. For example, you can create a window as a component and place it in all rooms. When you update one, all identical windows will be updated automatically. So it's going to make your work easier because you only need to update once and the others will follow. Okay, let me show you an example. Let's say we are going to create two circles. This is the first circle, and this is the second circle. I'm going to make the size the same. Well, actually, this is a little bit smaller compared to the first circle, but that's fine. We're going to block these two circles, and let's click on the search icon and let's type in component. And let's click Make component. And you will need to name your component. In this case, I'm going to name it component one, and let's click Create. Okay, now we have two components. So if you update one of the circles, the other one will follow. Okay, guys, I think that's it. That's all you need to know. I'll see you guys in the next video. Bye. 6. Importing Pre Made 3D Model From SketchUp 3D Warehouse: Hello, guys. Welcome back to the course. In this video, we are going to learn how to import premade Tre models from SketsUTD warehouse. Sometimes you don't want to start from scratch, right? If you already have a premade models, it is going to make your work easier and also faster. Okay, now let's click Three D Warehouse. And it is going to open this page. And you just need to type in the keyword. For example, in this case, I'm looking for a bet. So let's type in bet and let's click on the search button. Okay, now it is going to display the search result. And let's scroll down as you guys can see, there are many options. Look at this. Okay, I'm going to select this one. Before downloading this model, I'm going to click C Materials. Okay, now it is going to display the materials in this model. We have Leaf, piece Lily. Okay, just click Download. Let's click by clicking here, I accept the above terms. And let's click Import. Okay, now it is downloading the model. It will take few seconds, maybe ten or 15 seconds, depending on the size of the file. In this case, it is 21 MB, so it is not that big. Okay, here is the bet. Very cool. Now we have a bet. And we are going to rotate this bed. Okay, very cool. I'm going to put it right here. So we have this person standing next to the bed. Okay, now we are going to import another three D model. So let's click on the Tree D warehouse, and we are going to search for another premade three D objects. In this case, I'm going to find and import a table. So let's type in Table, and let's click the search button. As you guys can see, we have many table here. Look at this. We have dining table. We have a very simple table. Look at this. Okay, I'm going to pick this one. So let's click Download. Okay, now it is downloading the model. It only took a few seconds, maybe just 3 seconds. Okay, here we go. Here is the table. I'm going to put the table very close to the bed. And it seems the table size is too big. So what I'm going to do next is to scale this table. So I'm going to select D table, and I'm going to click scale, and I'm going to make the size a little bit smaller. Okay, here we go. Okay, guys, I think that's it. That's all you need to know. I'll see you guys in the next video. Bye. 7. Designing One Story House with SketchUp: Hello, guys. Welcome back to the course. In this video, we are going to start the first project. We are going to create a simple one story house with windows and a front door. The design is going to be very simple. I'm not an architect, so the design is not going to be very aesthetic or luxurious. I'm really sorry, guys. I hope you understand. Okay, now, let's get started. Firstly, we are going to remove this present. Let's click on the eraser icon. And let's remove him. Next, we are going to create a big rectangle. Okay, here we go. And let's create a beam. Let's click Push Pul too, and let's pull this up. Let's create another rectangle on the front. Okay, here we go. And let's create another beam. So let's click Push Pul too. I'm going to make this a little bit shorter compared to the first one. Now we are going to create the roof for this house. So let's scrap the pencil. I'm going to erase this. Okay, here we go. Next, we are going to create a front door. It's going to be very simple, guys, click on the rectangle and let's create the front door right here. Let's use the push pull tool. It's going to look like this. This is the front door. Now we are going to create the window. The shape of the window is circle, so I'm going to select circle, but if you want to use rectangle, it's totally up to you. You can use any shape that you want. Here is the window, and I'm going to create the second one here. Make sure the size is the same. And let's use postpone two. Okay, next, we are going to create another window. The shape of the window is rectangle. So let's click this and I'm going to put the window right here. And let's use post pull tool. Okay, here is the window. Next, we are going to create a car garage. So let's create another rectangle right here. Let's use post portal, and we're going to post this. Okay, here is the car garage. Okay, we have three windows. We have one front door and we have car garage. Next, we are going to change the color of the house. So let's select the roof, and I'm going to change the color to brown. Let's click materials, and I'm going to select brown. Okay, now the color of the roof is brown, as you guys can see here. Next, we are also going to change the color of the wall. It is still white. We are going to change the color to light gray. So make sure that you select both sides and let's click gray, and let's apply the color. Okay, now we have successfully changed the color from white to gray. And lastly, we are going to group these objects. So make sure that you select all objects And let's click on the search icon, and let's type in Group. And let's click Make Group. Okay, we have successfully group all of these objects. Okay, guys, I think that's it. That's all you need to know. I'll see you guys in the next video. Bye. 8. Designing Office Buildings with SketchUp: Hello guys. Welcome back to the course. In this video, we are going to start the second project. We are going to design office building using SketsU. Okay, now, let's get started. Firstly, I'm going to remove this present. And let's create a rectangle. And let's pull posto, and let's pull this up. Okay, now we are going to add windows to this building. Let's rectangle. I'm going to create multiple windows, maybe four or five. I want to make sure the size is exactly the same. I'm going to copy and paste this rectangle. We're going to do it multiple times. As you guys can see, I have added five Windows, one, two, three, four and five. All you need to do is to select the first window and copy and paste it four times. If you are using Windows, just press Control C, Control F. If you are using Macbook, just press Comment C and Command f. Okay, now we are going to modify the shape a little bit. So let's select the first window and we are going to use Push Pull tool. Let's click this and we are going to push this inward. And we are going to do the same thing for other windows. We are going to do the same thing for the third windows. We are going to do the same thing for the fourth windows. Okay, next, we are going to create a front door right here. So let's create a small rectangle. I'm going to put it right here and we're going to use Pospto Make sure that you select this rectangle, not the other rectangle. And let's push this inward. Okay, now we have the entrance door, and let's create another shape. I'm going to select circle. Well, actually, I'm going to create a half circle, not a full circle, guys. And let's like the circle, and let's use push pull tools, and we're going to pull this up. Okay, so this is a helipad, so a helicopter can land here, guys. That's very cool, right? Well, we're going to make this a little bit shorter. And let's create another door. Let's create a small rectangle right here. And let's select that rectangle, and let's push this a little bit inward. Okay, so that's the door. Next, we are going to add another component to this building. So let's draw a smaller rectangle right here. And let's like this rectangle, do not select the whole rectangle, right? Just like this rectangle, and we're going to use to make this a little bit taller, right? So it looks like a tower. Okay, maybe not that tall. Okay, next, we are going to create another building next to this building, and we're going to create a bridge connecting the first building to the second building. Okay, for the second building, we're going to build a very simple building. Let's draw a rectangle. Let's select that rectangle, and let's use push pull too. Okay, so here is the second building. Okay, I'm going to zoom out a little bit because the size of these buildings are huge, so you can get a better overview. Okay, this is the second building. We are going to create a giant window here, and we're going to add different color. So let's click Materials, and I'm going to select blue. Okay, now we are going to build a bridge connecting this building with the second building. So let's create a small rectangle. And let's select that rectangle. And we are going to use push pull tool. Okay, so now we have a bridge connecting the first building with the second building. By the way, we also need to add entrance door for the first building. So let's draw a small rectangle right here. And let's like that rectangle, and we're going to use Post Bo tool. Okay, here we go. We have the entrance door. Okay, guys, we have successfully boilt two office buildings. If you want to add color, feel free to do it, guys. I think that's it. That's all you need to know. I'll see you guys in the next video. Bye. 9. Designing Bus Stop with SketchUp: Hello, guys. Make sure the size is not too big but also not too small. Okay, now we are going to use the push pull tool. So let's pull this up a little bit. Okay, so here is the bed, guys. Next, we are going to add two pillows to this bed. Let's select rectangle. And let's draw two rectangles right here. And we are going to use post portal. We are going to do the same thing for the second plow. Okay, next, we are going to make this bed more beautiful. So let's like rectangle, and we're going to create another rectangle right here. And let's use Pos Poll tool. Okay, here we go. Next, I'm going to add a very small table right here. So you will be able to put your phone or laptop near your bed. Okay, we're going to get started with a circle. So let's circle. I'm going to put it right here. And let's use push pull tool. Let's click this. And let's pull this up a little bit. Okay. Here is the small table. Next, I'm going to add a sofa. I'm going to place the sofa right here in front of the bed. So once you wake up, you will be able to sit in the sofa and enjoy a cup of tea or maybe a cup of coffee, right? Okay, now let's click this and let's use push pull tool and let's pull this up a little bit. Okay, we have a small sofa in front of the bed. Well, actually, I'm going to make this bed more beautiful, so I'm going to make this a little bit taller. So let's select push pull two, and we're going to pull this up a little bit. Okay, so now it is a little bit taller, as you guys can see right here. Okay, next, we are going to create a wardrobe. So you can keep your clothes there, right? So let's select rectangle.
