1. Design a Stunning Logo and Branding Guide in Procreate: From Vision Board to Final Export: Hi, everybody. This is Karen from Moon flower Studio Creative. I'm so happy you're here. Today, we're going to create your company logo and branding and Procreate. This is for somebody who has maybe an Etsy store or you go to fairs, or you ate crafts or you're small business owner. And what we're going to do is go into Pintris and use their collage maker to make our brand vision board. We're going to take that board over to Procreate and make a custom brand palette for you so you have the perfect colors every time you need them. And then we're going to go to Chat GBT. If you don't already have a name for your company, we can use Chat GBT to come up with the perfect brand name. Next, we're going to learn how to make some shapes and beautiful assets that you can use to enhance your logo. We're going to learn how to import font into procreate and create your beautiful logo, and I'm going to show you how to export your finished logo so you can use it for all of your future designs. Thank you so much for being here, and I'll see you in the next video. 2. Use Pinterest collage board to get clarity on your brand vision: Alright, let's start by going to chagpt.com and finding a brand name if you don't already have one. So it's very easy. You just sign up with your email account. I use my Gmail account because every time I sign in, it makes a prompt that I can just use my Gmail account. And I'm going to ask GPT to write me a name. You can ask it to write you 20 names or 30 names. And I'm just saying that opening an Etsy store. I like a name. My products are soaps and tea towels and maybe some cards, and it's a vintage style. And you can go crazy with the style and just really describe what your brand is and who it's targeted for and what you're selling. So once you're finished with this description, Chat GPT will come up with your name brand, and you'll have whatever you put in your prompt. This one gave me ten, and you have a really great starting point for your brand name. And if you don't like it, you could start it again and change it and chat GPT and say, Well, I like these, but can you revise them this way or that way? And it will absolutely do that for you? Right here, I really love the names of Vintage Charm Company and AirmHaven. I think it's really great. I use a different name in mine, and we'll see that in the next video. So Pintrist has this awesome tool called the collage Maker. And if you hit that plus button on the bottom, you can create a new collage. You're going to name it. And you're just going to search through PintristO the top there, it says, search Pintrist. And you're going to write in something that you are looking for. And I put in a little search for Mid century modern or heirloom look or a vintage look and that is what it's going to search for. So you can see my different searches there. And it will pull up the different Pintres boards that relate to your search, and just grab one or two that you like and thinks fit your brand and pop it into your board. Now, this collage thing will actually also take parts of your image. As you see here, it cuts out certain areas. Now, that one is kind of kitchy I guess, you call it, those crazy colors, but I put it in there just as a reminder to me that mid century modern isn't always, you know, sort of these color palettes with the subtle colors, it could be a little poppy, too, with those bright colors. So you have to decide what is your brand style and what is what is not your brand style? Or colors. So I kind of mix that together in my board because I know what I want and what I don't want. So it's a good way to just put this on your vision board, and you have a great reference for anytime that you are looking at your brand or building your brand. So here I am. I'm just sort of I took that pen tool and I just colored over the section I wanted, and Pintris will take it and add it to your board, just that one section. You can see there's an eraser there and you can just select different things and move your board around anyway you want. I really love this tool. It is so much fun. So it would be really great to do just a vision board with this collage. And then you can even share it, and you can export it as you saw in the beginning of this video with the Pintris that it made a cute little board that I did. And here I am just grabbing one chair as a sticker, and that can be added to your design as well. I really love this Pintris collage board. It makes things so much easier, especially if you're trying to build your brand to just create something that you can keep as your brand identity. And now when you're done with this, you want to be able to import it into your Procreate, so you have to get it into your photo album on your iPad, and you could just save it or take a screenshot of it. 3. Create your brand color scheme: Alright, so let's start making our brand board for our new logo, and we're going to just make a new canvas, which is going to be 10 " by 10 " and at 300 DPI. And it's going to have about 55 layers, which is pretty good because this is a board we're going to keep always for our branding reference. And I'm just going to use RGB color mode for now. If you're going to print something, you're going to need to change it to CMYK or whatever parameters that any printer might say to use. So here I imported my board from Pintrist into my canvas, and I'm just going to start creating some circles, and I'm going to duplicate this circle six times or 12 times however big you want your palette to be, I'm just going to show you what I do to create a palette in my procreate and how I create a brand board. So all I'm going to do is take all of these circles and combine them together and move them around to a position on the board where they look really well. So I'm just lining them up, and then I'm going to just group them together. Alright, so all you're going to do is go grab, tap on your color, your little circle there to the right with the color on it, and you're going to sample over a color that you like on your photos, and you're going to just drop them into these circles. And this is the basis of your color palette. And you can play with this visually until you see the palette take shape and you think you like this color combination because sometimes the color combinations don't look that great. So I purposely put in there the third picture down on the right, this sort of kitchy looking color scheme, but it's actually the same color scheme as the one up top, pretty close to it of the flowers. But if you're looking for something more subtle, maybe you don't want to do that. But here I have a combination of kind of both of those color combinations. So you have to decide what colors work well for your brand. Okay, we're creating a new palette now, so I'm just hitting the colors and then the plus sign on the palette. And then we're just going to hover over each color and tap it into one of those squares to create your palette. Now, you can go down to the bottom there where you see the disc, which is a great way to find a new color. And the classic is a great way to go up and down in value of a color. And also the harmony is a good way to find, you know, colors that might be in harmony with your colors. And now the value scale here gives you the hexadeimal numbers and the numbers that you may need for future applications. 4. Create a ribbon asset: When creating logo designs, as a designer, a lot of my designs need some sort of base behind it. So it's either like a badge shape or a circle shape or it is a ribbon shape. So I'm going to go over how you can quickly create these assets in Procreate to use for your branding, whether it's behind your logo or you're using it for some other asset in your branding and your design overall. So here I'm just making a oval, and I use my selection tool to create that. And I'm using my drawing assist because I want to have that vertical line there to help me to keep things symmetrical. So, you're going to use drawing assist, vertical, and you're also going to create this this circle and then duplicate it. And then you're going to color one a little different colors so you can see what you're doing. And then you're going to move the top shape lower than the bottom shape. So you can create that top shape to look kind of like a ribbon. Then you're going to select the top shape and delete it from the bottom shape, and then you're going to delete your top layer. So all you have left is this ribbon. And since we have it on drawing assist, we're going to be able to erase and do things that is equal on both sides. So we're just going to take that ribbon shape and duplicate it and change it into a different color. So there are two different colors. And then we're going to go into our make sure your layer is on drawing assist and take the top layer and just erase one side of your ribbon, so it's straight across. So now it's already looking like a ribbon. So the bottom one is going to be like the folds, and the top one is going to be the main element. I grabbed a darker color and my monoline calligraphy pen, and I'm just drawing like an S shape here and closing it in, and I'm going to fill it with a color. So it's a darker color so you can see what you're doing. And of course, I didn't use my drawing assist, so I have to do over again. So here we go. Now I'm going to do this one more time, and you can see it's going on both sides. So it's completely symmetrical. And there you go. That looks pretty awesome. And so we're going to play with this a little bit more to get it to look more realistic. Alright, on your bottom layer, you want to erase the middle part between the two dark colors there. And I'm just gonna carefully erase. We have it on drawing assist, so both sides are going to be equal and pretty easy to do. And I'm always tidying things up. You can zoom in on it and tidy things up, 'cause you know, sometimes you don't draw perfectly perfect, and I like to just zoom in and tidy and clean things up the best I can and get it to look the way I want it to look. So these are not exactly the way I want them, but we're gonna work on it a little bit more. I'm grabbing my monoline again, and I'm just making a little notch on the edge of the ribbon, so it looks like a ribbon and erasing all of that out. So that's a monoline calligraphy pen, and the eraser. Alright. Now I'm going to go in and I'm going to change the shape of the top ribbon. It's gonna be a little bit more round, see? And we have it on our drawing assist, and we're making it more round and more looking like a ribbon that's turning and curving gently. And I'm going to also take some off the top corner here, just make it a little bit rounder. So that all of a sudden looks so pretty. It's like this beautiful ribbon, and it just took us a few minutes to make. Next, we're going to shade our ribbon, as well. And if you're like me, you like to go in and tidy up 1 million times and make sure everything is just right. And when you're happy with your design, just go into your layers palette and make every layer into a group of this ribbon and call it ribbon. This way, all your layers are very tidy, and when you come in, you're not confused as to what is what. Alright. Now we're going to start shading our ribbon. We're going to click on the top ribbon, and we're going to make a new layer, and we're going to call it clipping mask. And then we're going to go down and find a brush. It's going to be an airbrush, and it's going to be a soft. And here we go, getting the airbrush. I have so many brushes and soft brush. Perfect. And this is going to add our shading and our highlights. So if you keep the drawing assist off, you might get a more natural effect where everything is not even, and maybe the sun is coming from one side or the other. Or you can do it symmetrical, so both sides are even. So right here, I put the drawing assist back on, and my shading is, like, the same. So, there you go. And I'm going to do the same thing with the other parts of our ribbon. We're just going to make the shadow, our highlight or shadow area lighter than your darker or darker than your lighter, as far as color is. The great thing about using clipping masks when you're experimenting with color is that you're never ruining your original artwork and you can always just redo it and you have the integrity of those pieces that you spent so much time on, and they won't get ruined. Alright, that shading looks pretty awesome. I think that you can make this in so many colors and so many shapes and have fun with that. Next, we'll add our lettering to our ribbon. I'm having so much fun with this project. I hope that you are, too. And here I already did the lettering, but I'll show you how I did it. And I'm just typing in my letters, so we're adding text, and I'm just going to type it. It's going to be live text. We'll rasterize it when we're done warping it. So I'm just going to move this down. The one I already did. And I'm going to grab this one to show you. So you can see one is rasterized and one is not. This is still live text. So I'm just going to drag it and keep it even on top of our ribbon. Now I grabbed our selection tool, the farthest one to the right, and it's like the direct selection tool. And then we're going to hit warp on the right corner there and move it. So my computer, my iPad is having some issues with memory, and it keeps glitching on me. Um, here we go. So here I put it back. And what we're going to try to do is you see those lines going through the warp, you want to keep them evenly apart so that your lettering is not like, distorted in any way. And now you can see the H and harvest is moving too much to the left. You want to kind of have it going more to the right from the middle to the right, you want the letters going to the right gradually and from the middle to the left, your letters need to go to the left gradually. And once you're happy with it, it's going to rasterize it. And I think that looks really beautiful, and it's a gorgeous ribbon and it's super simple to make. 5. Create more logo assets and brand assets: Well, I'm going to show you how to make the badges that go behind your typography and your logo designs. And it's quite easy here in Procreate. And what's fun about it is that you can do this anywhere you have your iPad. So if you got a break somewhere and you want to just do something, you can just really do this anywhere. And so what I'm doing is I'm going to my selection tool and creating a rectangle, and I'm going to fill it with a color, and then I'm going to go back and get an ellipse. And on a new layer, we're going to fill that with a color. And these shapes can be super long, super round, whatever shape that you feel is going to enhance your logo design or yeah, your typography. And so we have our drawing assist guide on, and we can see that we have it on snapping, free form and snapping because I like to just be able to move things anywhere and distort my design anyway I want. So I'm going to snap it top to bottom and right to left for all of my elements. I just keep these elements on different layers until I figure out what design I like, and then I group them or combine them to make one shape. So you could really start out about making just, you know, ten layers of shapes and then just keep playing with them until you get something that you really love, and then you combine them and make a shape for the back of your logo. So here I am adding another circle or oval shape, I should say, through the center. And that's a beautiful little badge there with that and just center it all up. And when you like something, just combine it and save it. So you might find a shape you liked in the beginning is good, and then you add another shape to it and you like that one, too. So just save them, and you'll have a whole library of these badges that you can play with over and over again. Even if it's not for you, maybe for a client, if you're doing a logo for somebody else, you can use it for that as well. Okay, let's design one more shape. I'm going to move my badges into my folder where it belongs. And I created another rectangle, and I'm using a quadrilateral in my drawing assist. So this way, all four edges are doing the same thing, and it is very symmetrical. So I'm using, again, my calligraphy pen in my eraser, which is the monoline. And I'm going to just zoom in so I can see that my corners are um, not going outside of my rectangle because, you know, sometimes we can't see as close. So, here we go. The corners of my rectangle is not outside of the green. So all we're going to do is erase the back of this. We're gonna have this lovely diamond shape, and I think that's gonna be really great for a mid century modern type of design. Okay, I'm speeding up the erasing point. And then after we're done erasing this, make sure there's nothing left over. Just bring it back, and we're going to duplicate it and go ahead and duplicate that and change one to one color. Whatever color you are going to use, and I'm raising the top one or the top one up or the bottom one down. We're just going to make a drop shadow behind this design. I actually really love the mid century modern colors of, like, the teal green and the orangy brown together. I think they look super awesome. And I might not use that here, but I do like the orange. And that's pretty cool. So just having it slightly off makes it look like a mid century modern right off the vat, it's very cool. Alright, let's get some typography on top of the shape. When I was designing this class for you, the logo or the brand I came up with is heirloom harvest, and it was the same thing of, like, tea towels and soaps and things I could sell on EtS. Alright, let's talk about our fonts. And what I usually do when I'm creating a logo is I write I type out my words of my logo, the name of my logo, and I type it in different font styles. Now, you can import different fonts into Procreate by going inside where you create text, and it'll say import. And that's where you import a font and it'll pop in, and then you can find your font and use that font. So every one of these designs that I made, I decided to write the font name down so that I know which one I'm working on. And that makes it easier to pick one out. So I really love the top one is South Bank. I think I got that at creative um, fabrica, I think, but I don't know. But you can buy fonts at creative fabrica or creative market or design cuts. I get my fonts from there. I like to pay for my fonts because sometimes, if you have a subscription and you use something and your subscription runs out, you don't want to renew, then you have to pay for the font every time you use it on something new. So I just like to buy them outright. They're pretty cheap lately, and not like they used to be years ago, where they were very expensive, but now they seem to be a lot more affordable. So here I am picking out my font and just typing it in. And here I'm importing a font. So this is called alchemy, which I really like this one, too. And here we go. I'm just going to add that to this logo. And I'm actually adding two fonts to this logo. I have this alchemy and I have this Fournie, and these are vintage fonts I think I got from design cuts. And that's pretty awesome. I'm gonna go with that font in the end, and I hope you like this. 6. Putting it all together, Designing a logo in Procreate : It's time to put all of these elements together, our topography and our and our badges and just get creative and making a beautiful logo for your brand. So here is my typography. And I decided to use this badge that I made earlier, and I created it into that rustic orange color. And I changed the typography on the top to a lighter color. I kept it. I just made a new layer, and I picked out a Big cream color, and I moved up and made like a dropshadow effect. Top of my background design. So I do have my snapping on and my drawing assist on still because I want to see those lines and make sure everything is lined up. And so now that we have this, this looks great right here as it is, if you want a simple logo, I'm going to snap everything and make sure it is all lined up because I'm going to start drawing on this. So we're going to get out our calligraphy brush again, the mono line, and we're just going to start drawing things on top of a new layer on top of our badge design. I So because we have the drawing assist on, I was able to create first of all, I did the arch on the top without the drawing assist because if you have it on, it's really hard to match up the middle. So just make a nice arch and it should snap into a nice arch. And just kind of follow along with the arch that's already there on your background. And then I drew some lines on the side, and it's the same color as my shadow line. I think that's pretty cool. I'm just drawing in some leaf shapes because it's heirloom harvest. I thought some leaf shapes would be nice, and I'm just going to drop some color into those leaves. And it's so cute already. I just really love this logo so far. I make logos for years now, so they go pretty fast for me. But here, just play around and just try different things because this is the fun part, and nobody is art directing you and telling you what to do. So you can just be free and be happy with yourself and your abilities because you know what's right for you. And here I am just drawing more. And I'm just playing around here, and if I don't like it, I'm just going to erase it and start over again. And I think I'm going to add a couple more branches, and I'm going to add some flowers to this, too. This is a two color job. So if you were to print this somewhere, it's best to have the least amount of colors because if you're going to use a spot color to get a color exact, then it's costly to get different plates made. So if you're doing CMYK and it's just like a print a digital print, then it's just one color. So just go all out. But if you're going to be using spot colors for this for anything, then keeping it down to one or two colors, Max is a good way to save money. When you're done creating your logo and you're happy with it, you want to save it. And the best way to save it as a transparent background is to make it a PNG file. So you're going to go up to that wrench and you're going to go down to save as a PNG file. And before you do that, go into your layers and make sure that your background layers off. This way, it'll be transparent and you'll only have your logo with nothing behind it. Thank you so much for taking this class. I hope you liked it. I think this logo came out adorable, and you can use it in so many applications. I'll see you in the next tutorial. 7. THANK YOU! Project: Hi, everybody. Thank you for taking my class on how to brand yourself and procreate and make a logo. And I hope you enjoyed this class. And I'd like to continue on with more branding classes. So please post your work in the project section. I would love to see them, and I'll see you next time.
