About This Class

If you love fun and creative projects for Canva, then this class is for you! We are going to create a fake receipt that you can use for scrapbooking or collage, on Instagram or Pinterest, or for any other kind of creative project. This is a great way to aesthetically record things like memories and events, playlists, books you've read, or any other kind of information you'd keep in a list.

You could also incorporate this design into a collage carousel post! I have another class teaching you how to design this kind of post, so please do check it out if you're interested.

We're going to be using Canva to design our fake receipt, and you only need a free account to do this project. If you have a Pro account, that will give you access to more elements you could use for your design.

This is a quick and easy project that can be completed by anyone with a little Canva knowledge!

Hi there! My name is Rebecca, and I'm a full-time creative. I'm an artist and illustrator, art YouTuber, Etsy seller, and small business owner. Most importantly, I love teaching creative people like you!

In a past life I was a university lecturer and researcher. I loved every (stressful) minute of it, but I am so thrilled with the twists and turns that led me to my entrepreneurial life. I've been full-time self-employed and doing creative projects since 2017!

My goal is to provide practical, hands-on skills along with knowledge that can only come from experience. Everything I teach is something that I really do - usually as an income stream or as a client service. I was always told that I had a gift for explaining things clearly in a way that anyone can understand, and I h... See full profile

1. Introduction: To this quick design class, we are going to be creating a fake receipt in Canva that you could use for collaging, you could put it on your Instagram, you could use it for basically anything. It's just a fun little design project that you can personalize. I'm going to show you two examples one I already created and one we're going to make today together. One is using summer holiday trips as the items on the receipt, and the other is making a play list with some songs. All you're going to need for this is a free Canva account. If that sounds fun to you, then let's start the project. 2. Designing Your Receipt: This is the project that we're going to be creating, and this is a fake recy that I designed. We are working on a Canvas in Canva that is 2.5 " wide by 6 " long. You can make it longer if you like, but I think these dimensions give it a really realistic size. Let's make a new page and start from scratch. The first thing I want to do is add a background, and that's going to just make it look a little bit more realistic. I'm going into elements and looking for paper, and I'm going to go into photos and search for a crumpled paper that looks pretty good. I'm looking for something that is not too rumpled, but will look a bit just like a receipt with that texture. Almost like we scanned one. Lots of these elements are pro. I'm just going to filter for the free ones, and this paper texture looks okay, so let's just rotate it and fill the canvas. Great. The next element we're going to look for is a barcode. That just makes it look a little bit more legit, so we can just look for barcode. Under graphics. There's lots of examples here. Pull one that suits your tastes. I'll use this one for this version, and we'll just put this at the bottom of the receipt. Next, we're going to add some text. Now, I'm going to hit T for text box, and I've picked a text font that is typewriter looking or like a computer did it. The one I'm using is called FRA code, but you can find lots more just by typing type writer in the search for fonts, and lots of these look like they were done on a printer. Now, if I scroll up into our example, what I've done here is we have the top of the receipt with a fake store name and an icon, some little bits of text here and there that just makes it look more realistic. And then what I've done is included locations and the dates as dollar amounts for a scrapbooking purpose. So we're just going to recreate this down below, starting with the top. Go to mix it up for example and pretend this is going to be a playlist. Let's call it songs about you. I'll make it bold and put it in the center. Add another textbox and we'll add a fake receipt ID, and then just mash in some numbers. You can put significant numbers if you want. Put that right below. For some of the details, I basically just found a receipt lying around my house and copied the style off of that. So feel free to do this if you want yours to be a little different. But I'm just going to add in some of those elements that are commonly on receipts. All right, this is what I have so far. So what I added in is I added regular sale at the top. I added this transaction record and these just sort of nonsense numbers, and then I added a date here and have a nice day at the bottom. So this is just kind of the framework for a typical receipt. Like I said, have fun with it. I'll look for a picture to be a icon at the top like a store logo, and then we'll add in some content. For this, since it's going to be a playlist, I'm going to look for maybe a sketch or doodle of headphones. I used a little rows for this summer memories one. Let's look for headphones. There, this first one will work great. I'll make it smaller and just put it at the top. Finally, we just have to add our content. I'm going to do a textbox and I will make it size nine, just so it's a little smaller. Now, basically, I'm just going to come up with a couple of songs that could be on this playlist, and then I will add instead of dollar amounts, I'll do like their time codes. I'm going to reference my music app for this. Here's how I formatted the songs. I actually had to reduce the font size down to seven just to fit them in. But I did the title of the song in bold and then the name of the artist below. You could make the font even smaller if you want it all on one line, but I think this looks fine. Now I'm just going to add in the time codes on the other side to look like dollar amounts. Okay, so here it is filled in. These are all of the time codes for the songs presented as dollar amounts, and then I added them up, and I also put a text here that says total. I was really able to just copy these text formatting blocks once I've done them and fill in as much as you want. If you want to make this longer, like a whole playlist, obviously, just make a longer Canva document or use the resize feature. I think this is a really cute little project. I know that I'm excited to put these in some of my scrapbooking and collage projects. So if you make one that you love to share, I would love to see it. Please upload it to the class as a class project. It'd be really fun to see what everybody creates. I would say, get creative, obviously, come up with different ideas. I did this like travel themed one, I did this song based one. If you have other ideas, it'd be really cool to see. And of course, receipts don't have to all be on white paper. Some places use cute colors, so definitely use your creativity. I hope you enjoyed this project. I am creating lots of other fun canva design projects all the time, so check out my other classes if you're interested. Have a great day and have fun creating.
