1. Introduction: And Jake, and in this class, I'll show you how you can create Data Mosh, Visual Effects charts using all the built-in tools of Adobe After Effects. I'll teach you how to use this effect to create seamless Video loops, which are perfect for your social media, you don't need to have any paid plug-ins to create this template. All you need to have is any version of Adobe After Effects free trial version works to this class is great for beginners because I take my time to explain each and every step which I make. This class is great for expirienced Adobe After Effects users too, because I'll teach you a few cool techniques which are not that common ingredient motion design. You can just download a free trial version of Adobe After Effects if you don't have this software yet. And we will start from Basics and gradually we'll get to more complex stuff. I think it's the best way to learn this software. Well, creating interesting Effects for Fun and to complete this class, our goal is to create this cool Data Mosh Visual Effects. I'll be happy to see in my class as also your result after following all the steps. So let's get started. 2. How to Film Your Own Footage: So I'm using Adobe After Effects 2021, but you pretty much can use any version of Adobe After Effects. This effect will work fine as long as you have this Content Aware Fill and window panel. And in this case, you'll be able to make this effect. So let's use standard layout. So your panels should be similar to mine in case if you don't see some of the panels which you can see on my screen. You can find them here in the window. You can safely ignored these plug-ins because we are not going to use them. But instead, you need to go to Window and enable the content aware fill panel. So go to Window, left mouse click and click here on content aware fill. It will jump out as a separate window. But if you will left mouse click on its name, you can place it wherever you want. So for example, here or maybe here. So my case, I've docket here besides this project panel. And when you will not needed anymore, you can just right mouse click on it and close the panel. So first of all, I want to show you how I filled my footage. So this is original video which I've shot for this class. So basically I'm making this movement. So you can see that is nothing on this surface. And then you just need to place your hand. Do not move with this hand. And with other hand, you can just place any object into the Shot like I did it here. And then just continue this motion. Just make sure that you don't have any lights changing in this shot. This video will be great to Film inside where lighting doesn't change. And then just continue this motion. And to wherever movement you want. Let's see it one more time. Then place it. My hand here, enlightened in my scene is constant. Then I place it any object here. Then I make sure that still I don't cast any shadows in my Shot. And then I continue this motion with the hand. This is exactly what you want to Film. And make sure to Film Your hand as far as you can because we will zoom in a bit in this video, you'll see later in this class. So make sure that your final video will be cropped in about to this dimension like this. So it's a good idea to Film with wider angle because we will crop in, zoom-in a bit into our shot. So video like this will work fine. So this raw video will be available in Resource tab to this class. You can just download it. Now let's import it. So let's click Invert. Then you can just select it left mouse click and hold, and drop on this new composition icon or here on timeline to create new composition. So let's drop it. And as you can see, this is exactly the same video. I've just did a little bit of color correction. So it would be a bit brighter and less orange. If you are interested how I did it, I just want to Effects and Presets panel. And with this course, effects added a bit of light and reduce the orange color with the red channel and edit a bit of blue. So you can see this how you can reduce any orange colors in your shot. So I'm gonna delete this because my footage already looks pretty fine. But this is how you can lightly color correct. Your footage. If it's too orange, then I just cut out my footage as you can see at this moment. So how I've done it, I just selected my Footage and pressed Control Shift D to split the layer and then just found the moment where I already have my remote on bad. So basically this how you can split your footage then carried leaders and stick it to this video here is you can see I'm pressing shift because this is allows us to snap to this layer, as you can see, it snaps. And this is how you can get this really quick cut. So I'm going to press Control Z because I've already done it with my Footage. And as you can see, I have this really fast cut where my remotes is Appearing on the screen and after that is completely the same video. And once again, make sure that you have a bit more space above and below, because we are going to demand to about 113% for this effect to work. So final video will be like this. So make sure that you have a bit more in your video. Later, we'll be able to remain. In the next video, I'm going to show you how you can add this glitchy effect onto our video. See you next video. 3. Creating First VFX Shot: So to add that glitchy effect onto our video, we just need to use this content aware fill panel, which is located here in window Transit our field. We can also save the project in case if Adobe After Effects will crash. So go to File, Save As, and save whatever you want. So I'm going to call this project as a class and safe wherever you want, how this effect will work. First of all, we need to make sure that we have the same settings on your screen as you can see on mine. So alpha expansion should be at zero. Film methods, you need to set the surface lighting correction. We just need to uncheck this box and range set to work area. Because we are going to show to this plugin from wherever you want to create this effect with this work area. And also we need to right mouse click on this content aware fill panel, right mouse click. And it will allow us to go to Content Aware Fill settings. And here we can set output death. So eight bits per channel of the path. You can set Project relative, which is basically will save it in same folder as your project. Or you can set your own by clicking on this absolute button. You can see where you can change to wherever you want to save it. I'm going to click on Project relative in here. Let's uncheck this create Photoshop reference frame. But instead, we need to check here. Create Photoshop sequence for output because it will create rendered footage on top of our footage. And also it's useful to have this powder manage unused fill footage. Because if some cases it will doesn't work or you will have resulted which you don't like, you would want to generate another effect. And with this checkbox, it will ask you every time if you want to delete unused footage, which is really useful. So make sure that this checkbox is also enabled and click Okay. The next step on using this plugin, we need to have our reference frame. Basically what it does. It takes this texture and applies on the next frame of the video. So how to do this? You need just to select this layer with the raw footage and press Control D. With this time coarser, you just need to select just this frame before your object is Appearing on the screen. With this preview panel, you can just go previous frame and extreme and make sure that you're just before apparition of the object here. Then we just need to cut this layer just to one frame from this side. And then from this edge you can see that we can just left mouse click and drag, encourage to one frame. Make sure that it's only one frame. It's important because in that way, we will transfer this texture onto the next frame. To make sure that you have only one frame, you can just zoom in here. And this is basically just one frame is you can see zoom-out. Then we need to select this work area, because we've said here, range at work area. Once again, you can zoom in and make sure that your work area starts with this first reference frame and zoom out. And now basically we are telling to the software, to this content aware fill that we want to apply this texture on the next parts of the video. So basically, if you will have something different in your shot, you'll get this kind of effect which we will create today, where we apply this texture on the next video, which looks also pretty cool, exactly this I'm going to show you in the next videos of this class. So now let's generate this video. But before we are going to click on this Generate Fill Layer button, we need to cut out parts of our image. Because as you can guess from this Generate Fill button name, that it needs to generate something to fill the frame. In our case, our frame is completely full. And to cut it out something, we can use just effect. So let's select this jazz effect and drop it on this video below, on this one, completion, Let's turn it up a bit and height, let's set it to zero. So my case, I'm seeing that this plug-in works well if it stays below 89%, because if you will set too high, like for example to 95 and click Generate Fill, it most likely will give you an error. So let me show you that will analyze our footage, but we are giving it too little to work with. So as you can see, we're getting this error, which means that we need to click Okay and set it here below of 89. Basically, any amount will work as long as you will stay under 89 percentage. So now we can just click Generate, Fill, and just wait for this plugin to work. It will take few minutes. First, it will analyze and then render footage on top of our video. So I'm going to skip this process to save the time of this class. And once all the messages here disappear, it means that job is done Now as you can see, this reference frame which we've created here has been projected on top of next video. And this is basically how you can get this effect. And by the way, if you did not get this kind of result with this texture which was applied on top of the video. And it looks way off and not as you can see on my screen. Then basically just create new project, go to New Project and start over from time-to-time. This cantered our field doesn't work properly. So it's a good idea just to close this project and start new one. Luckily, it's happens really, really rarely. Good news. If it works properly, it will work properly entire time. But we can go to another level and make this video loop, select this layer and disabled this just Effects for now, we are going to create this really nice loop where our hand is going on top of this video and starts wiping the way previous frame, which is also pretty cool effect. So first thing which you can do is to make this glitch effect disappear smoothly. So for this, we are going to use gradient wipe effect. So here N Effects and Presets, type gradients and wipe. If you cannot see this Effects and Presets panel, you can go to Window and enable it from here, Effects and Presets. Let's type here gradient and choose this gradient wipe transition, leftmost leak, and drop it on this field layer, which we just created. This effect, we can change this value and as you can see, it will transition back to our original video. What we also can do, we can also change this transition sadness, so we will get more smooth transition. So let's animate first value. Let's set this to zero and animate this transition completion. To animate it, we need to use keyframes. And to create our first keyframe, we need to click on this stopwatch about here. Let's set this value to zero. Create a keyframe by clicking on this stopwatch. As you can see, it starts to blow and press U on keyboard. Here we can see our keyframe. So what is key-frame? Key-frame is basically the point in time which remembers the value of certain property. And our case, this keyframe remembers this point in time, which is 6 s and 20 frames. And it remembers this value of zero or property transition completion. So basically if I'm going to move to this point in time and change this value to 100 per cent to complete this transition. And as you can see, it completed even at 77 per cent. So we don't have to go to 100. Just make sure that it transitioned to our clean Footage. Just like this. It automatically created new keyframe. So now After Effects will try to go from this 77 per cent at this moment in time to this keyframe which has the zero per cent value. So basically, if I'm going to scroll through and you pay attention here, you can see how this value changes from zero per cent from this point in time to this 79 per cent. This is basically how animation works inside of Adobe After Effects, we just creating keyframes, setting the values. And After Effects is connecting these values. So this how we can get this animation and you can see this pretty hard edge. And if you like it, you can leave it at as it is. But I also want to assure you that you can change this value and make it smoother. As you can see, with this transition sadness, you can control how smooth this transition you want to have. My case, I don't want to go overboard. So I would not have to smooth transition because we have kind of glitchy effect. But it's up to you how you can use it. Basically this is like fade away. But if you're going to set this lower value, you'll see how this transition happening, which looks a bit more interesting to me. So let's close it here. And now we have this really clean transition. And in the next video, I'm going to show you how we can create this seamless transition, where it goes over to this frame here. See you next video. 4. Creating Looping Video: So now we have this basic understanding of this effect. And we can go one step further to get the Looping Animation for our Social Media. So basically, from this moment in time, we want to go to this moment where this hand studying the loop. So my advice is to have this just when your hand is Appearing on the screen. Just here. Select this layer, press Control D to duplicate it, set it above, and cut to this moment where this hand is starting to appear on the screen. We can now choose where this effect will start applying. My case. I want to have this hand on top of this last video. So basically a few frames of this hand I want to have here. So to do this, I can enable this video which I've just duplicated. I want to split the layer. Basically, Let's select this video and press Control D. And as Casey, I'm taking this part of the video, which I've just split it. And just moving here up till the end. And this layer below, I just want to disable. So basically what I've done, I've added this part of the video on the end of this video, and now we can just Rotoscoping this hand and it will be on top of this video. So let's do exactly this. Makes sure that you're working in full. Double-click on this layer, leftmost double-click, and it will open in layer mode. In this layer mode, we can use this Roto Brush Tool. So let's let more slick on this Roto Brush Tool. And with left mouse click and dragging, you can create this kind of mask. With this mask we want to show to the software what we want to have in our screen. In my case, I want to have this hand. So once I release it, it will create this rough mask. And with this roller on the mouse, you can zoom in or zoom out from your picture. So let's zoom in a bit, hold spacebar on keyboard to be able to move around and left mouse click and drag. Basically you can just select this handle and do the same. Or just select this rata brush tool and hold spacebar is you can see I'm holding space and left mouse click and drag it. It will be easier to navigate in this window. Then you can hold Alt key. And as you can see, our cursor turned to red. It means that with the left mouse clicking and dragging, you can remove the parts which we don't want. Basically I want to keep only my hand and this shot, so let's remove any parts. And by the way, if you want to change the size of your brush, you can hold Control. Click and hold left or right to change the size. And in my case, I just want to have it small as this and they'll hold Alt to remove the parts, which I don't want to keep. This mass could be pretty rough because we don't really will pay attention on how clean this Rotoscoping is, something like this should work fine. And then using this next frame button, you can skip to next frame. And it makes sure that this mask keeps your hand in video and just remove the parts which you don't want. Then go to next frame and continue this process until we will cut this video up till the end. And as you can see, we're basically at the end of the Video, click on this previous frame button and go back. And also make sure that it still keeps our hand with this mask. Okay, so now our process is done and now it's important to click please button because it will save all the progress of our masking. So click on this freeze button. Wait a minute, because it will take some time. And now I'm gonna go to Composition raw. You can see that we've added this hand on top of this video, which is perfect for us because now we can just, with this Roto Brush refined edge effect, we can refine our edges. First of all, I want to add use motion blur. It will allow us to have more smooth edges. We can also zoom in and see how it looks. Also, I want to shift the edge and as you can guess, by setting to -100%, it will crop in. With this feather. We can grow up in even more just like this. And I was, you can see we have pretty nice edges. Let's cut to this work area and press zero numpad to see how it looks. And as you can see, we have this hand on top of our video, which is perfect for us because it will be the perfect transition to this moment here. And as you remember, we have this video here, which we can also use. We can just enable it, put it on top, and we will use it as a reference frame from this last part. So as you remember, we need just one frame of this video so you can hold Shift and drag it by the edge up till the end. Zoom-in and make sure that it's only one frame. Zoom out And to move this one frame here, because we want to apply this texture on top of this video. You can just simply select this video with this one frame and press on the keyboard open square bracket, which looks like this. So you can see I'm pressing this open square bracket on keyboard and it automatically moves this layer to this moment. And if I'm deselect this video, basically, it's the moment where this hand is started, the movement. Here, it continues to this movement. If you want to make sure that it matches properly, you can basically just more this time course of up till the end and take a screenshot with this snapshot tool. So let's take Snapchat, go to this moment and press a pipe. And you can see this hand stays just one frame before this next frame, which is perfect for us. It means that this transition will be smooth and we will get this continuous loop. So let's enable this one reference frame which we will apply on top of this video. And also change this work area to this moment because we are working in this range of Work Area with this tool. And make sure that here we will zoom in, make sure that this reference frame Work Area is inside. And not like this because in this case it will not work. And this is how it should look. This work area and this frame should be inside of our work area. Let's zoom out. And only then you can click on Generate Fill layer, just like we did at the start of this class. This is basically the same technique. And by the way, as you can see, we got the message. It means that we didn't select this video and didn't cut the part where we want to fill. So make sure to select this raw video and click on this jazz effect to apply it one more time. Basically with this, I can here you can just disable or enable this effect. So let's enable it. It will cut it out. And with this reference frame, we will feel this part of Video and then click on Generate fill. You can see these messages disappeared, which means that work is done. Let's see how it looks. You can just press zero numbered to see this is QC. It worked perfectly. Now we can use the same effect which we created here, which is gradient. Why perfect? Just select it and press control C to copy. And let's say that we want to have a transition about here From this moment. Let's press Control V to paste it. If you press U on keyboard, you'll see the transition keyframes. And it's can see it fades away. And just because we just need to select this layer below ng-disabled this effect soon as you can see, it transitioned back to our Polish. But this transition happens to smoke because these videos are two different. And to make this smoother transition, you just need to go to gradient layer and change to this video. Because we want to transition back to this video, which is this one, original one. So set like this fill which we just created and change here Torah Video. As you can see, this transition happens a lot more interesting. Make sure that here at the last keyframe and to make sure that your time cursor is on top of the last keyframe. You can watch here. If you see this blue light, it means that you on top of the keyframe is, you can see here, we are not on top of the keyframe and it's gray. Now, if I hold shift and move this cursor, it will snap to this keyframe and lights up blue. And on this keyframe, make sure that it exactly the transition point where we can see all of our original Video. Don't go to 100 per cent because here nothing changes. And just drop lower and lower until you'll have this transition point. About here is you can see it at five per cent. It already made the transition. Once again, here with this transition sadness, you can apply how much sadness you want to add. Have this transition smoother. And now with this work area, Let's make sure that it starts here, ends here, and press zero numpad to see what we already have. Somehow. As you can see with these bunch of steps, we getting this really clean transition point. And the next video, I'm going to show you how we can handle this little issues, like the fact that we have still here, these frames on top and at the bottom. And also, I want to show you how we can make this transition a bit less noticeable. Because if we will take a look here, you can see that this transition is too noticeable. So in the next video, I'm going to show you how you can take these minor issues. Cinemax Video 5. Fixing Issues: So now we have this perfect loop, but we have these minor issues with this jump ring. And also here we have still this kind of lines. So first thing which we can do is to make sure that we are setting this work area to this moment. And with this work area, we are showing what we want to keep and what we want to loop. So make sure that this work area is set to our Looping video. Then write mostly here and click trim comp to work area. So basically it will cut all the composition to only this part which we want to keep. And then just select all of these layers and press Control Shift C. It will precompose, follow these layers. Let's call it VFX. Done because we already applied all of our VFX. Make sure to move all attributes. Click here and unclick on these two checkboxes and click Okay, so basically now we have all of this in one layer. This is really handy because now we can just battle this first issue with these lines. You can just press S on keyboard and change the scale to higher value. In our case, 113 per cent should cover all of our screen. And now as you can see, we don't have this previous issue. If you can still see some of the parts, you can just increase this value, maybe 114. And this is why it's important to shoot this video with wider angle. Because now as you can see, we zoom in and we lose this part of the image a bit. So keep in mind while shooting your own video. And next thing which I want to address, this jump cut. The easiest way to go round this is just to right mouse click on this layer and go to time, enable time remapping. And as you can see, this first keyframe, unless keyframe represents our timeline. So basically, if I'm going to select the transition, I can just see where our fingers will try to hold this remote. We will set the first keyframe, which starts about here, set a keyframe. And where we already grabbing here. Also we want to create this keyframe. Now, if I'm going to select this second keyframe and this last keyframe, and move it both of the keyframes. At the same time. It's important to select both of them and add to move one-by-one. Because in this case, we will keep this animation speed and just shrink this part of the video, which basically will speed up this moment. And it will help us to hide this transition point. Because now if I'm going to set this work area here, emperor zero numpad. You can see that it's a lot faster happening and our audience should have a little less time to see what happened. And basically, by selecting these both keyframes, you can speed up even more if you want or less, and just find speed which covers your jump cut better. And Mikey is something like this, should work fine. Here as you can see, you have this black screen because we've cut it this video a bit. So make sure to set this work area to very last frame where our Video is visible, just like this and here also. And then press zero, Not bad. Now we should get this really clean. Transition point has also really clean Looping Animation. And this is how you basically creating, create this effect. Feel free to experiment and create other kinds of videos. Because now you know this technique, how to create this effect. Also feel free to follow me here on Skillshare. I post classes every week.
