1. Creative Mind Mapping : What is up? You guys welcome to this course on
creative mind-mapping. Creative mind mapping is one of the best tools that you can use to get clarity in any
aspect of your life. It helps you to generate ideas and is a really wonderful
brainstorming tool, but it can also help you
to organize your ideas, to gather information is a great tool when you are studying or learning
something new. It is just all around amazing and I
can't wait to share with you guys how to really make mind-mapping creative and fun. And some of the tips that
I've been using throughout the years that have
really helped me. So if you are ready to
stimulate your brain and gets some of the best ideas
that you've ever had. This class is gonna
be perfect for you.
2. Foundations of Mind Mapping: What is a mind map? So a my-map is just a
diagram or a visual map that includes pictures and
words that help you think. A mind map is used to
help you to brainstorm, to remember things,
to learn new ideas, and to create new ideas. Why would you use a mindmap? Well, a mind-map is
just a fun way to work, as opposed to writing lists or just typical writing
in your journal. A mind map is a way to help too, stimulate your creativity and is going to help you
to draw connections, which is gonna be
really important. And the process of
generating ideas. When should you use a mindmap? I like to use My Maps literally
all the time whenever I am brainstorming or before I need to plan
something really big. Or if I'm studying, or if I just really want to
organize some information, it's always the perfect time to use a mindmap for
the class project. You are going to be
creating your own mindmaps. To create a mind map, you only need a few materials, which is just some
paper or a journal. And you're going to
need some colored pens, markers, or colored pencils. I'm also going to invite you
to the idea of creating and inspiring workspace when you
start to make your mind map, because it is a
creative process. And the more inspiring your workspace is when
you are doing a mind map, the better ideas you're
going to have in the more fun you're
going to have when you're making
your mind-map. Personally, I like to have
a little music going, or I would like to
put on a video that's inspiring or that's maybe on the topic of what
I'm working on. You do want to have your
laptop or a phone nearby so that you can look up
ideas as you're working. You also wanted to do this
during a time and setting. We you won't have any interruptions and you
can just be free to create. Sometimes I can do a mind map really fast and
just a few minutes. But you really want
to make sure that you have a good block of time to get creative and make
your mind-map artistic. So go ahead and make sure that your workspace is conducive
of all of those things. First,
3. How to Create a Mind Map: When you make your mind map,
you want to start off with a central idea in this can
be an idea for any topic. So if you are a screenwriter, This could be an idea for your play or an
idea for a scene. If you are a photographer, this can be an idea for
your next photo shoot. If you are an entrepreneur, this can be an idea for your business or if
you are studying, this can be the main idea for the topic that you are studying. I'm gonna be creating
my own mind map. And I'm going to show you guys step-by-step how
I go through it. So let's say that I'm going
to do my mind-map on getting ideas for my next
Skillshare class to create. So my central idea for that
would be my Skillshare class. I like to start with
my central idea in the middle of the page, and I like to do
everything color-coded. So I'm going to use this green
color for my central idea. And all the branches
that come off of this, I will use the same green
color from my central idea, I'm going to think about topics and different
keywords that come to mind when I think about creating a
Skillshare class, I'm thinking about what
are some skills that I have that I would like to
share on this platform. And for me, one of the first ideas that I
think about is journaling. I've already created a
Journaling course on Skillshare, but at this point the
course is a few years old, so I might think about revamping their course or doing
something similar, but teaching some different
ideas around journaling. So I'm going to start with
that as my first keyword. As you come up with ideas
and different keywords, and start to branch off
with your mind-map. You want to be sure to incorporate art as
much as you can. You can use different
colors and patterns and textures and
symbols and pictures, and lettering to make your
mind map more creative. Remember that the
more interesting and creative that you
get with your mind-map, more interesting
and creative ideas will be that you generate. I'm definitely not the best
artists on Skillshare, so please be patient
with my artwork, but I do try my best. So I'm gonna just add in a little picture of a journal
and then I'm going to make everything coming from the
keyword of journaling in this kind of pinkish color. When I'm thinking
about journaling, I am definitely thinking
that I can renew my say, renew old bullet
journaling class. Maybe I could do a
class on some of my favorite
journaling exercises. Maybe I could do one on how I use my journal to
be more productive. Sometimes different branches
will branch off into more branches from thinking about different
journaling exercises. I know that there's
a book called the success principles by
Jack Canfield that has some really amazing
journaling exercises that I would probably love
to share in that class. So I might put
success principles. Then we might do this in orange. I'm just using some
regular printer paper. But the bigger the paper is, the better so you can really
expand on your ideas. So I might come back to the idea of journaling
in a moment, but I want to think
about some more keywords to branch off of what I would like to
share on Skillshare. So another idea that
I've had recently is in regards to reading, just because I
haven't seen a lot of courses on Skillshare
in regards to reading. And I used to be a
reading teacher. And I have a lot of
ideas that would help people of all ages
to become better readers. And I'm just going to go
ahead with another color. This is all totally random. So some ideas that I
have when it comes to reading could be just how
to be a better reader, maybe how to read faster, how to take good notes. I might even come
back with some art. This is supposed
to be a stopwatch. And again, go back and
color-code everything. Another idea could be
on creating content. I love the idea of getting
paid from posting content. And I know that's
something that a lot of people find valuable as well. So I think that's a skill
that people will be very interested in within
creating content. There are a lot of things
that I could share. So one of those things
could be YouTube. Within YouTube, there's
so much to learn. I could talk about how to
create thumbnails and titles. I could talk about
how to get your first 1,000 subscribers to talk about how to
document yourself or log. And also when you are
content creating, you do need to know a lot
about writing content. And you see how from one idea you can branch
off into the next. You can keep branching off
into these different ideas. I think I'm gonna
do one more idea. Another idea that I'm getting is for some type of
lifestyle course. So I'm really big into
lifestyle content. And I do make a lot of lifestyle content on
my YouTube channel. And most of it is focused around health and
wellness and fitness. So I might do one for health. Another thing that I'm
really into is urbanism. I love to make
anything using herbs. And so I might think about some different recipes that
I'd like to share or how I make my Saul's different oil infusions. So as you can see, I can just keep on
going with this. And if I just really get in the zone and put on
some good music, I could probably do this
for another hour or so and really come up with some
good ideas for a new course. And really that's
the whole point of doing a mind map is just so that you can come up with as many good ideas as possible.
4. Mind Map Exercise: Goal Setting: I have a quick mind-mapping
exercise practice for you. If you'd like to,
you are going to create a goal-setting my-map first identify a specific goal or an objective that
you want to achieve. And you're going to put
that as your central topic. And just like I showed you
in my previous example, you're going to
branch out and add different categories
related to that goal. From those categories,
you're going to add action steps or milestones to
help you reach those goals. Remember to use
different colors and symbols and visual cues to help represent the progress of
you reaching your goals and to help motivate
you along the way. This is a project that I
will be creating as well. And I'm going to leave mine
in the class project space. So if you have your own
mind-map that you want to create and upload into
our class project space. Please feel free to do so if we could all learn from each other, see what kind of techniques
that we use and just kinda share our goals
with each other. I thought that'll be a
cool space to do so. This is a completely free space. There are no rules for
creating your mind-map. If you google mind-map, you will see that
there are a lot of different techniques
that can be used. So please upload your examples so that we can all
learn from each other and get inspired to
create more awesome my maps
5. Conclusion: Remember that
creating a mind map is just a simple and fun way for people to
brainstorm and it is something that I recommend
for all age groups. I use this with my students and they would really,
really loved this. So if you can show this to kids, it will be amazing, but it works amazing
for adults as well. Obviously, you can use
a mindmap for any idea, anything from goal-setting
to just doing a book review. Sometimes I even
find it very useful to make a really quick, rough draft of a mindmap
and then go back and do it in a more creative
and artistic way. And the more you
practice mindmapping, the better you will get at them. I promise you find
yourself reaching for this strategy all the time. So I encourage you to use mind-mapping as
much as possible. And lastly, don't
forget to share your mind maps and our
class projects board. I would love to see what ideas
you are currently working on and what creative ways
you like to mind-map. Thank you guys so
much for watching and I will see you in
the next class.
