1. Introduction: Hi, I'm Jake, and this class will teach you how to create dissolving color effect, which does not require any external plugins. I used this exact effect while creating this slideshow template, which is now available for sale on Video Hive and vado elements. This is how you know that the knowledge I provide is up to date. You don't need any experience working in Adobe After effects. You can even download the free trial version and it will work fine. I'll explain each step we will take to create this effect. Use your logo, text, or any shape to get a unique look. I'll provide you with all required knowledge so you can understand each setting and make adjustments to make this effect look exactly as you want. You can always write your question in discussion section under any of my classes. To get help from me, while creating cool effects. I'm excited to see your projects after completing this class. I think it's the best way to learn this software, while creating interesting effects for fun. And to complete this class, our goal is to create this dissolving color effect. I'll be happy to see in my class as also your result after following all the steps. So let's get started. 2. Creating Basic Animation: So I'm using Adobe After Effects, 2024, but you can pretty much use any version. It will work fine. Let me close this panel, and pretty much all panels, which you can see on my screen, you can enable it from here from Window, for example, this character panel, here, you can enable it. So let's create our first composition. So we can click here on your composition. Go to composition, new composition or on this little icon here. So left mostly on it, and let's call it your text. We will make it 1920 by 1080, which is fully ID, 30 frames per second and about 12 seconds long. Here's our frames, seconds, minutes, and hours. So 12 seconds should be fine and click a key. So in this composition, we can just drop our logo or our text for this effect to work. So let's create our text. You can left mostly on this horizontal type tool. And just left nose lick, hold and drag, lead this and type your text. In my case, I'm going to type MJ. Here in character panel, you can change to any font which you like. In my case, as you can see, I'm using Monster At font. Let's also click on this line panel. If you cannot see this panel, you can go to Window line and enable it from here. And then just left mostly here to align it horizontally and vertically here. So here's our first text. So in our case, we want it to be visible until 32nd, and then we want to switch it to next text. So basically, we can just select this text layer and go to edit split layer or Control Shift D. So you can see we've splitted this layer, and now we can just select the second one and left most double click. And type wherever word you want to use. Also, we will align it horizontally and vertically. Basically, now we have this this transition. Next step which we want to do, we want to have this kind of animation. Let's create it. First of all, we want to create another composition by clicking here, create a new composition. And let's call it text animation because as you can see, we've created an animation on our text. So let's call it here, text animation and click OK. And as you can see, we've opened this text animation, and now we can just left no slick on this your text, hold, and drag in here and drop. So now for our animation, we would want to use a new layer. So let's go to layer, new solid. Let's call it MT because we will use it as a met and click. Then we can go to Effects and Presets panel. Left mostly here in effects and presets panel, wait for it to load up, and we can just move it to see it better. Once again, you can go to Window and enable it from here, effects and presets and let's type here effect called fractal noise. So here under noise and green, select fractal noise and just drop it on matte layer. So here we want to change a few settings. First of all, we want to use other fractal type. Basically, as you can see, we have a lot of examples, and you can just run through them. But for this effect, I was using swirl type, so click here. The next thing which I want to change is the contrast. Let's set it to 180, and I want to reduce the complexity because we have a lot of little lines, and let's change this complexity to one. And as you can see, we have this more liquid ish kind of look. And let's also change the scale. So let's go to transform and here in scale. Let's change it to a lot bigger, so it will cover our letters, maybe something like 277. And finally, I would want to add a bit of animation. We can animate by using evolution, we can just leftmost click here and hold and drag it. So as you can see, we can get this kind of cool animation. But we can also hold Alt key on keyboard, as you can see, I'm holding Alt and left moose click on this stopwatch alongside of evolution. Leftmost click while holding Alt, it will allow us to write expression. Basically, we want to type here time, multiply by 70. And just anywhere, you just lick here. With this expression, it will change this value as we've dragged it. As you can see, it just goes along. If you will press zero on numpad, we can preview this by increasing this number, we can make this animation go faster. In our case, 70 looks good. And basically what we want to do is to animate this brightness. So it will go from something really bright like this, total white color to really dark like this. So basically, as you can see, it already makes this really nice transition. So let's increase this to complete white, but don't go overboard. I just find this moment where it's just about here, it transitions to white. So in my case, it's 101, but in your case, it could be different if you used a bit different values here. So let's create a keyframe. Just make sure that your time cursor here is the beginning is 0 seconds, and let most click on this stopwatch alongside the brightness. So now we've create our first keyframe. To see it, you can just select it and press U and keyboard. It will show us only this keyframe. So what is keyframe? Key frame is basically a point in time, which remembers the value of certain property. So in our case, this keyframe remembers this point in time, which is 0 seconds. It remembers this value of this property brightness. So if I will scroll through, just like to third second as you can see, we are a third second, and we can change this value. Let's set it to something really dark so we will get to this black color. Once again, we want just to have this edge when it goes to completely dark. So don't go overboard like -500. Let's go something like this. Maybe even little things, it will be fine to have. But if you want to have cleaner look, you can go even lower. So something like this should work fine or just go to black if you want to completely cover your text. And later here at 6 seconds, we can go back to this value of first keyframe. Basically, we can just select it and press Control C to copy and Control V paste. What we've done, we've created three keyframes with different values. And here we can see we have brightness with values of 100. Here we have -140, and here once again 100. Now after effects will try to go from this value to this value just by scrolling through. As you can see, this value changes, and this is basically how animation works inside of Adobe after effects. We just saving these values in form of keyframes and it goes from one value to other through time. Now we're going to press zero nupt, we can see this animation. So now we can use this layer as a Mt. Basically what means that we can use the brightness to reveal our text. If you are using older version of Adbfex, you would want to click here to see this track mat and here choose Luma Mt. But since we are using the most newer one, now we need to leftmost lick on this pick web, leftmost lick and hold and jet to this Mt. Just make sure to use this one and not this one because this one is right one. Also, we need to click on this icon to change this from alpha met to luma mat. Let me click on it. As you can see, now we are using not the Alpha of this layer, but the luma, which basically means the brightness. As you remember, here, if I'm going to enable this layer, here is super bright and then it goes to dark and to bright again. So now if I'm going to disable this layer, you can see that now our text goes to fully bright and then to dark, and bright again. And we have this really nice animation of the changing of our text. Okay, in the next video, I'm going to show you how we can add a bit of color and make this transition a lot cooler. See you in the next video. 3. Adding Colors: Okay, so now we've made this animation of transition, and let's go to the cool part where we can add some colors. This time we need to go to Project. And we want to create another composition here. Let's click on this icon here and let's call it a dissolve color and click Okay. In this composition, we want to drop our text animation. Let's select our text animation and drop it in here. To make this animation look a lot better, we can add effects like roughen edges, type here and effects and presets, rough and edges. I'm going to close these panels so you can see beta. Here effects and presets, you can just type it roughen edges. Mostly on it and dragon drop on our text animation. And here we want to make some twigs, so it will look better. First thing I want to change is to change the border, which basically means how much I want to shring down our text. So in my case, I've used value of 14.2, but you can play around with this value as you like. And basically, I want to make the scale a lot bigger, which make this line look smoother. So in my case, once again, I've used 310. But you can play around with this value to see what you like as the transition to this effect, as you can see. So let's go with 310, and you can just change it later if you would want. As also how much you want to introduce of this effect with this border. So as you can see, I'm shaking down a lot and here a lot smaller. So in my case, it was 14.2. Also, I want to reduce the edge sharpness because I want to have a bit of fade in these colors. Edge sharpness set to zero. And now you can see we have faded image, which really will help us a lot with the coloring. But first, we don't want to have it just transparent tagle transparency grid. We can see that this white Animation is transparent and basically, we can see through. So to fix this, we want to go to effects and presets and type here solid composite, like Mosl and dragon drop here, and let's add not white color, but black. So now if I'm going to click here, you can see that we don't have any transparency. Basically, we have this animation on black background, which is exactly what we want because next thing which we are going to use is the Colama effect. And the color arm effect creates a lot of these colors and it goes from values of white to black. So this is why we want to have the black background. Let's enable it and here output cycle. We can play around with these colors, which basically makes the whole effect. So first of all, I want to move this reddish color here, and I want to start with the black one. So to create another color here, you can just left mostly here and change it to black and click Okay. We can just basically align it here and just at the top, so it will still have black background. And now we have a lot of these colors. And basically, here you can play around as much as you want, because here you have full creativity of the colors which you would want to use. In my original example, you can see that I didn't use this purple, pinkish color, so I'm going to just left mostly and drag it out. As you can see, when I'm jugging out, I'm left most licking, holding, and jugging out. It removes this color from this color palette. And these colors, pretty much I've used except of the green color. I also didn't want to see a lot of green. I just remove this color, but transition will still be here, so don't worry. You'll have a bit of greenish color, but it will be not so prominent, which is exactly what I wanted in my effect. Let's move these colors around. In my case, I moved it, so I would see a lot of reddish color and also here more of the bluish and reduce this transition with the green color because I really wanted to have the transition between blue and red. Something like this placement of the colors work fine. But you can always play around and change and add any other colors to see what you like best. The opposite of these colors, we would want to do with the word class. Because I think it's pretty cool when it starts from these reddish colors and then ends in different colors. So I'm going to show this part a bit later on the word class. So let's continue with our effect. One cool thing which you would want to use curves effect. So let's go to effects and presets and type here curves, Litmos lick and we can place it above all of our effects. Just before rough and effect. So what allows us to do is to play around where you want to see this transition. It will add a bit more control of how it looks. So let me show you what I mean. You can just change here and channel to Alpha. If you will reduce this Alpha just like this, you can see that you can alter the look of this transition. By basically playing around with this Alpha curve, you can really find what you like best. My advice is to clip it just like this. Then press zero nape it and see how it looks and if you like how it looks, and just play around with this curve. This curse effect is something to keep in mind if you would want to alter the look of this transition. In my case, I'm going to leave it as it is, as I've told you just a bit earlier, I would want to make this class appear in another color, so it would not be the same animation. Going to red. What we can do is to cut it here because we know that this animation starts from third second. Let's select this text animation and go to edit, split layer or Control Shift D. We can move it to the left a bit, so it will start sooner because we don't want to wait too much time for the second word to appear. We can almost want to overlap a bit, so it would look a bit more interesting. Now as you can see, it doesn't blend into each other. It just starts from black. So to fix this issue, you can just simply select this top one and make sure to see this mode tab. If you cannot see this mode, you can just left mostly on the tuggle switches and click it until you see these mods. And what we want to do is to change to screen or add. Basically, screen makes a blend smoother. Now as you can see, with this overlapping of these two layers, we can see how this disappears, and this class one appears just after. So it's a lot more dynamic and it looks much more interesting instead of waiting whole second for this to appear. And here we can choose this class one, and we can go to our Clarama effect and output cycle, we would want to change these colors. Basically, we want to flip it in this color palette. So what we can do is just simply drag this one, here, this one, here and this we can also switch like this. So as you can see this is how you can really fast and easily change the colors and flip it around. And now as you can see, we have this transition from reddish color, and the class appears from blue, which looks really nice. Let's press zero Nampet to see how it looks. Okay, great. We have our transition, but as you can see, we don't have original color of our text. In the next video, I'm going to show you how you can see the original color. In our case, it's white, and also we will add a bit of distortion so it will not just be dissolving effect without any movement. I would look much more dynamic. See you in the next video. 4. Dynamic Animation: Okay, so let's introduce our original colors to this. Let's select this first one. We can even select it and press Enter on keyboard, and let's call it JK. We know this our first word. Maybe let's call it MJ color because we know that on this layer, we have our colors. And second one, let's also press Enter on keyboard, and let's type a class color. Now we can just duplicate this MJ color, press Control D, and also press Enter and let's type here MJ original. Now we don't need to have all of these effects, so we can just select this curse effect, delete it, select the solid composite, press delete on keyboard, and also this Calama selected and press delete also. Now we can see our original color, but it still doesn't really get together. So to fix this, we want to use some different values to this border, and we would want to change the edge sharpness, because for now, as you can see, we don't have any sharpness to this. So let's fix these issues. So first of all, we would want to start from the beginning. We can change this border to one. Basically, it will remove all of our distortion on the edges. We can left most lick alongside with this MCic original layer. We will see only this, as you can see, we've removed any distortion on the edges, so we would have our clean look. Let's create a keyframe for border and also for sharpness because we want to change these values so it would look a bit different. And at 1 second about here, we want to apply a bit of distortion. Let's set it to 14.2, which basically the same value which we used here MJ color. But this time we would want to add a lot more of sharpness. We would have this really nice edge to know how much of the sharpness you would want to apply, you can just unsolu this layer, so you would see how it blends. Also we would want to have these color layers below. And we want to select both of them and move it to the right because we want them to start a bit later because we want to have this transition a bit later. Let me show you how it looks without it. We have this really nice animation, and here a bit later, we want to introduce these colors. So play around how farther apart you want to have these colors for this transition to look nice. So in my case, it's about 16 frames. We have really nice transition from white colors, which is original colors of our text. To these nice dissolving colors. Also, you can see this little jump where these colors pop up on our screen, and it's easy fix. You can just select this Gic color and press T. And let's just make a little fade. So let's create a keyframe for the opacity. And here at the beginning, we can set it to zero. So basically, it will just fade in with the colors. And we can select both of these keyframes and press F nine to make this animation a bit smoother. So now you can see just introduce some colors just before this transition. And we can make this a bit slower by spreading these keyframes apart. So now we have this really nice smooth transition. So let's press zero apt to see this transition. So if we will select our MJ original, we can press on keyboard and see these keyframes. Make sure to place your time cursor on top of these keyframes. And to see if your time cursor is on top of them, it's when these keyframes laid up blew here. So as you can see here, it doesn't laid up, and if you will place on top, you can see that they let up. So it's important because if you would want to change these values, it's great to be on top of these keyframes because in other case, you will create another keyframe. It's not what we want, so let's press Control Z to undo the step. And if you would want to change, for example, this and sharpness and play around, you can change it and see how faded this animation and this color could be. So it's up to you if you would want to tweak this effect a little further. In my case, I would want to have it pretty sharp. So this is why I went with really sharp look like 0.78. Okay, so we've done it for this first MC word, and the same we want to do with the second one, which is class. So let's select this word and press Control D to duplicate, and also let's set it above. Once again, we would want to delete all of these effects. The quickest way will be to select it and go to effect and remove all. So we would delete all of the effects. And to not repeat all of this process, we can just simply go to this MGC original and copy the roughen edges. Just press and show C to copy and go to this class and set this time course to the beginning of this animation. As you can see from this, it starts. And press Cancel V. It's important to paste it here because it will place these keyframes also from this point where you've set it your time cursor. So for example, if I am going to press ConchLV here, as you can see it pasted here. And in our case, we want to have it just at the beginning, so make sure to set it here at the beginning and press Consol V. Can select both of these layers and press U to see the keyframes and then press F nine also for this model animation. Now we need to make sure that this also times well. Let's move it a bit further this one. These original colors will introduce themselves a bit later. We can also select this class color and press Enter to rename it as original let's see how it looks. And also we can make the same thing with the transition for this class color as we did here with the opacity. So once it will almost finish its transition, we can just create a keyframe for class color. On the opacity, just press T to see the opacity. And a bit later, maybe here. Let's set it to zero. So it will remove all of these colors from the shot then select it and press at nine to make this transition smoother. Let's select this class original composition and press U on keyboard. We would want to use them a bit later and maybe with different values. First thing we want to do to flip these keyframes around. We can select all of them and write mostly on one of them and go to keyframe assistant and time revers keyframes. Basically, it swaps them around. Now it starts at 14 and this edge sharpness, which is really sharp. And then it goes to the smoother part. So let's make sure that it happens later because we just want to make this transition happened a lot later, maybe even later here. And a bit later, so we would not see any weird transition moments like this. So if you can see something like this, you just need to make these key frames stay closer together like this and move it to the right, so it will happen later until you'll fix all unwanted parts, and it should look something like this. As you can see, we still have this kind of issue here, so just move it a bit to the right, and now we have this really clean transition. So let's press zero net to see how it looks. So as you can see, now we have this really nice transition, but let's also fix here. We can just squish it from right end to the left like this, we would have this really nice transition. So we can squish it as much as you want to get the cleaner transition here. And also, I would want to add a bit of movement to entire this composition. So first thing which I want to add is to go to layer, new adjustment layer, and we need to go to FX and preset and type here turbulence display. Select it and drop it on this adjustment layer. As you can see, it already added a bit of displacement, which is exactly what we want. But we want to control it. The size of it. Basically, if you will go smaller, we have the little wave is exactly what we want. In my case, I've used something like 48, but feel free to play around with this value to see what you like. And second thing which you want to use is this amount because with this amount, we will change where to apply this displace. In our case, at the beginning, we don't want to have any displacement. So here at the beginning, let's set it to zero and make sure that your time cursor is here at the beginning and create a keyframe. Then we can press you on keyboard to see our keyframe. And here where it has this transition point at 32nd, we want to increase this amount to 38, which is pretty high if you will scroll through. You can see that with this amount, we distorted our image. But as you can see, we don't really apply any animation to it. It just distorted a bit and doesn't really move. So to add a bit of movement, you would need to change this evolution as we did before in fractal noise effect. As you can see by changing this evolution, it will add or movement to entire word, which is exactly what you want. And as we did before, we need to hold old key on keyboard and left mostly on this evolution. Let's type here time, multiply 150. Click Enter. Now we have also a bit of movement on the edge, as you can see, it really have this nice movement on the edges as well. So if I'm going to disable this layer, you can see that it holds still and we don't have really any movement on the clean edges. So let me show you like this. Oh so you can see we don't really have any movement, and if we will enable this adjustment layer, you can see that it starts to wiggle, which makes it look a lot more organic. So here we also will have this effect on the word class because this adjustment layer works to everything which is below it. And also, we want to slow down this animation at the end. So basically, here at the six second, we want to set this amount to zero, which basically will set this effect to chill mode. So let's select this keyframe at the middle and pressF nine. So basically, it will start first and then slower till the end. And here also, we have a bit of wiggle and it will settle in. So let's press zero net to see how it looks. So now as you can see we have this a little of wiggle and it looks a lot more interesting. So if you would want to have a bit more distortion, you can go to this keyframe, which is at the middle and add a bit more distortion. As you can see cream cup like four times, so it will be crazy, just like this. But it's something to keep in mind. As you can guess, in my original example, I've used a lot smaller value like 38 to keep it settle, but you can still see this really nice motion. And in the next video, I'm going to show you how you can add a bit more interesting movement to it, and also I want to show you how you can add a bit of these nice lens flares, which are generated from the word itself. So basically, if you would change the word, it will be generated from your word or your logo. See you in the next video. 5. Creating Lens Flares: Okay, so let's add a bit of movement to this and also let's create a bit of lens flares, which will add a bit more life to it because for now it looks really nice, but it looks a bit empty. So let's go to project and click here to create a new composition, let's call it final composition. Click K. In this composition, we will drag and drop our dissolve color, and let's add a bit of movement. Now in this composition, let's go to dissolve color here. Basically, I want to introduce some animation. So you would see a bit of Zoom animation to these words. So let's connect this MJ color to this MJ regional using this PC web, not this one, but this one. To see this parent link, which we would want to use, you might need to click here to Toggle S wishes to see these P webs. And let's this MGic color to this MG original and also this class color to this class original. What it does, basically it makes whatever we will do with these originals. It also will apply to our colors. For example, we would want to change the scale, and as you can see the colors follows also with this. This is exactly what we want. Now when we've connected all of these layers, MG to MGic and class to class, you can select this MG original and press As on keyboard to see the scale. Here at the beginning, we want to create a keyframe and let's change this value at the beginning at 0 seconds to something smaller, maybe like 70. Basically, it's from which scale you want it to start here where it's completely disappeared, almost completely disappeared, maybe even later, we can set it to 100%, which is original value. Now, if I'm going to press zero Numpad, you can see that we have this really nice animation and the same thing we want to do with this class. Select this class and press S on keyboard. Here at the beginning, maybe let's start from 80 and create a keyframe and here where we can see fully. We can set it to 100. Let's press zero Upd to see how it looks. It looks pretty well, but here I don't want to start the MJ work it moving so fast. Let's change this value to 80. So now we have a bit less of the movement, and it looks a lot smoother. So what is cool about this that you can always go to your text and change to any other word. Like, I don't know. Let's change to simple word text. And you can see that effect is applied to our original text which we using here. Same goes if you will use here a logo. So I'm going to revert it to the less text, B pressing Contos now we have this really nice zoom in effect. So let's select this dissolve color and press Control D to duplicate and let's set it this to add or screen. As you can see it already blended together. But what we want to do with this lower part, we can select it and press Enter on keyboard and let's call it ns flares or just flare. As you can see, we will use for our flare the same composition as our animation. Let's press on keyboard and change the scale a lot bigger, maybe like 300 semity so you can see we are using the same colors which we've used on our dissolve animation, which basically means if you would want to change any colors here, from MG color, and you will go here and change maybe like to another blue color. You'll see that here in final comp, it also will change it, which is pretty cool. But in my case, I don't want to use any other colors, so I'm going to press CinchLZ. The cool part is that it's all connected, and basically, if you would want to reuse this template, you can just simply change only the text, and it will work perfectly together. But as you can see, it doesn't really blend this much together because we want to get rid of this white part. We want to use only these colors. Select this flare and go to layer, precompose or Control Shift C. Now let's call it flare clean. And maybe let's change this to move all attributes and click Okay. So basically, if I'm going to open this in this new composition which we've created, we will remove this white part. And to do this, we can just simply select this composition and press Control D. And then using this track Mat, once again, click on the staggle switches to see track Mat and select it and pick up like this. If you are using older version, you would want to use this Luma met inverted. In newer version of IW after effects, you can just simply drag it and connect it like this. Then we need to change this from alpha met to Luma met. And also we want to invert it because we want to use all the colors from this one and subtract all the luma parts from this one. As you can see, we basically removed all the bright spots like white color, which is exactly what we want because we extracting only the colors of our animation and now we will be able to blow this out and to get really nice lens flares. Let's go back to final comp. Here now as you can see it blends a lot better and to blend it a bit nicer, we can go to effects and presets and type here Gaussian blur, left most lick on this and drop it on flare clean. Let's increase this value to link 233, and also we would want to use a curse effect. So with the curse effect, just select it and drag it drop here. We can just move this just about this line to intersect with this square. Basically, it will make a lot contrast here and get these colors to really nice saturated look. We can even select this flare clean and press as on keyboard and make it a bit bigger. So these flares will be a lot bigger. Maybe we can play around with this curve. Now we can see a bit more of our flares. With this curve, we can just really tweak it a bit to see exactly as we want. Also, we can split this layer, select it, and go to Edit, split layer, consult Shift D, and let's move it a bit to the left. We will start introducing the next flare a bit sooner. Which is really looks nice. You can even press Control D to duplicate and we can write most liquid and go to transform and flip horizontal and also write most liquid, go to transform and flip vertical and move this a bit later, just like this. We would have a bit more of these flares if you want. But don't forget to select all of these layers and change this mode to add, they will blend together and look a bit more nicer. And you can just basically move around them. You can even select one of them and go to time, try and stretch and change this stretch factor to 200, which makes it slower and click Okay. So basically, one of the flares will be a lot slower than others. So the movement will be a bit different between these flares, which also could look pretty nice. So let's cut it to this moment. Basically, the same you can do with this first one. You can also go to time time factor, let's set it to 200. So these flares will be also a bit slower. So it would look a bit nicer. Let's press zero numbe to see the final effect. Let's see how it looks. Basically, this is the call effect, which we've created and now you know you can create the same effect. You can just go to, Import file, and input your logo. Let's import any other logo and go to your text and drop it here. Let's disable these texts, and I'm going to go and apply some fill effect to make this logo just white. And let's go to final come to see how it looks. As you can see, now it looks great even with the logo. Basically, you can just use any of your logos, maybe make it smaller, so it will look a bit nicer. Feel free to follow me here on skill share.
