1. Class Presentation: Would you like to create a
colorful collage from scratch, but you don't know
where to start. This class is the perfect match. Follow me. Hello. My name is now we
want them and I am Italian artist
based in London. Welcome to my class. Create an abstract collage. My art practice is a
mix-and-match of collage, photography and
illustration, and involves the use of fun
images as a canvas. I love to manipulate any sort of pictures like vintage portraits, old postcards, even more
contemporary images. My art research is
also focused on making abstract pieces where I explore
the study of new forums, design combinations
and patterns. All my animated alterations over pictures are in
fact extractions. And it's my constant
research on patterns and their variation that makes
each of my artwork unique. I have an extensive
experience in teaching. From 2017, I started to
organize workshops in UK where I shared my passion for art to
the local community. In 2020, I moved my
events online with Zoom live classes to involve a
wider international audience. I will guide you through a
step-by-step video tutorial, where we will create
a collage using organic and geometric
forms combined together using simple elements, we will build a more complex, colorful and balanced
composition. This class is perfect
for any level. Everyone is welcome. I can't wait to work with you. So let's move to
the next chapter and see which materials
we will need.
2. Materials List: Next, let's cover one by one the materials needed
for this class. We will need a watercolor paper. I'm using an A5 for reference. This size is out of our print
paper that needs an a for a normal white print
paper that I call our test or paper. Lighters. And using a piece of colored paper or glue
stick around element. I have a pencil, a sister, or a nice cocktail. I'm using the knife character. And if you use a knife
crafter, Kathy map, like this, acrylic paints, I'm using posca pens
in these two sizes. Are 5M. Want em, jump parents, losing,
Sakura Gelly Roll. Some rules of Washington. I'm using six rolls and
the blend is empty. Masking tape.
3. Step 1 - Background Forms: First thing to do is to pick
a couple of commerce and our mentors range and decide which ones
are the best combo. Instead of working directly
on our watercolor paper, we will test them
in a test or paper. These will be useful for
all the future status of my work and keep will allow
us to see the fall of color. Often Columbus
worked well together before applying them
into our final number. Once we decide which colors
are the best together, we will draw a couple of fecal balls into our
watercolor paper. You can decide to
use different forms like triangles or squares, e.g. just try to stick to simple elements that you
feel comfortable to draw. In my case, I love to combine
around forums with lines. During this tutorial, I
will give you an idea on our simple elements
can bring us to a more complex and beautiful
collage compensation. Because there's two of us
are part of the background. We want them to stand out. So they will cover a big
area of our composition. The position of these two
elements is up to you. The important thing
is to make them big enough to be seen
until the very end of our compensation and to cover up the whitespace
in a balanced way. In my case, I will use column
to draw a smaller oval, tall, and this color to draw
a bigger on the bottom.
4. Step 2 - Paper cut: Now it's time to create a connection between
these two ovals. Here I selected the color and
paper scrap that works well with the ones that I already applied on my watercolor paper. But if you have any doubt, just good on a test or paper, more colors to see
if they work well. Now we can pick
our paper and cut our circle with the help of
the round object and cancel. We will have to glue this paper caught in-between
the two elements we created in previous step to start to build a more
complex compensation.
5. Step 3 - Top decoration 1: During this step, we will
take care of decorating the top of all that we
created in our composition. We will use the postcard 5M to realize a series of dots
that move inside it. What we're building new ways
to test that the colors chosen and depends on working properly in
my test or paper. Once we are at being the result, we can start to create the dark coloration on
the final compensation. You can start to decorate
from any direction, left to right, top to bottom, inside to outside and so on. The important thing is
to keep consistency in the size and the
distance between each dot. This exercise can be done in our testing paper
more than once. And always remember
that practice makes perfect. So don't give up.
6. Step 4 - Top decoration 2: In this phase of
our declaration, we will keep our
attention on the top of a Posca fine line at one end to surround each big dot created in pretty staff
whose molar dots. We will test the
band and the color didn't like to use on
the test and paper. And then proceed the
final decoration.
7. Step 5 - Grid Decoration 1: Now it's time to step out from the oval and realize a grade. They will move both inside
and outside our composition. But how to move
around the space? Let's make a test on the
test of paper as always, so we can visualize
our grid before applying it into
our composition. Using a postcard five and pen, we will trace a series
of dots that move into the space in a
zigzag line that moves from the top to
the bottom to have a consistent presence of
the dots into this space, we can decide to share to just three roles made a few
dots as a starting point. We always have time to add
some dots in case I need it. Now we can recreate the
grid into our collage.
8. Step 6 - Grid Decoration 2: We will fine liner job and we will connect the
dots with lines. Creating a serum is
uncles between them. You can decide to connect
the dots in different ways. Personalize the greed. Now it's time to move into our collage and
complete the quiz. I think a couple of dots just to create some
movement on this side.
9. Step 7 - Dotty Decoration 1: Half-life and we will surround all the elements that
we created so far with dots to give to our composition and more
consistent and complex look, we will test the pen on
the paper and then move into our final work to decode the area in
consistent ways.
10. Step 8 - Dotty Decoration 2: Using a fine liner
dealt pen will surround each node created in the
previous step with a circle. Always keep in mind
the importance of consistency in the declaration
process of each element.
11. Step 9 - Washi Tape Decoration: During this step,
we'll use washi tape. We can pick two or more
colors. It's up to you. I will use a total
of six colors. I will add my tape on the
test of paper to check if all the choices
were previous ones. Seeing their wronged object, we trace a circle where
we will apply the to. Keep in mind that
the position of the circle after connect some of the previous element of our
composition and sync time, balance it in a proper way. Try to visualize if there
is an empty area of your work that
needs to be filled and trace the circle.
We're unique. Now we can take the
selective teeth in, place them into a
chromatic line. This is basically a
sequence of calls that will be repeated
in our area. What do you have to do is
to decide your line of colors and follow this
order over an oval. My case, I like to start
from the line created with the pencil and
then gradually inside. But you can decide to decorate
it in a different way. I'm going to use my hands to cut small pieces of the tape and applied taller than the circle using the straight
part of the team. Once we applied, we can place
our teeth at the end of our chromatic line and start overtaking the
second tape in line. Now we have to place
this piece of tape over locking it a little bit
with the previous one. This will allow us to get a well-covered area and
a clean finish as well. Now we're going to repeat this step until we
covered all around. Now we can go inside and
finish up our declaration. Usually Moodle, I can afford
text inside the area. And in this phase,
I cut out pieces of tape because I don't
have to be careful, as in the previous step. Always keep in mind the
importance of consistency. So you can cut out pieces
of the bigger teeth that are still similar
size between charter. You can decide to follow another direction on placing
the tape into the area, e.g. in vertical strikes, directional
will also determine.
12. Extra Samples: So this is our final work. I have other samples that
I want to show you that I did during some
previous classes. Just to give you an idea on how your different colors and different patterns can bring
you different results. And I also have some variants on degree that we
did in this class. Let's say that these are very similar in terms of structure, the greed, and the
composition itself. It's very similar
to the one that we did during this class, but they just change a little
bit the color combinations. And as you can see, e.g. in this work, I made a variance. Instead of using dots, small dots around the big dots. I use circles around the
big dots inside this oval. And in this case, I didn't decorated
the big dots at all. So you can have another version. But still the
composition similar. Even this one is very similar
to the one that we did. Variants are more
about the greed. Let's say that there are more
dots that create the grid. So let's say give some more
complex finished to work. So if you add more dots, you can see that you can create a more complex grid point. Here. In all cases we have circles that surrounds
the big dots instead of small dots. In this version of the grid, I'll just make a
partial decoration. But you can see that the triangles that I created
inside the greed are decorated inside as well
with lines and dots. I alternate these
two declarations. And again, this is
another way to create a sort of complexity around
the greed decoration. In this variant, I've
used some wavy lines, horizontal lines, to
cover partially degraded. And as you can see,
you can lay your app. You can do the work at three-dimensional effect if
you decorate more degree. This tree variants
are all about, sorry, this for variance are all about the grating
the grid with lines, but in this case the
lines are straight lines. And this is another nice
example on how we can give a three-dimensional effect
and one deck to our work.
13. Assignment: Now it's your turn. All the materials
that you need and start to work on your
app's for collage, you can decide to select different organic
and geometric forms from the one that I chose. You can also personalize your collage composition using inspiring elements
from nature, e.g. the important thing
is to make it yours and have fun
during the process.
14. Conclusion: I really hope that you
enjoyed this class. And if you have any questions, please do not hesitate
to reach out. Thanks so much for watching
and have a crappy day.
