1. Introduction to charcoal drawing for beginners: Hi and welcome to relation Art Studio. In this class I'm going to show you how you can use charcoal to draw angel wings and introduce you to the basics of drawing and sketching with charcoal pencils. You're welcome to join the class if you are a beginner or an intermediate, or you simply have an interest in drawing with charcoal. Inside this course, I will be drawing two different angel wings using the same process of pencil first and then the coast sketching and drawing. So I've selected angel wings because they are easy to draw and you can get creative with your own choices. And they're also perfect for beginners. And those who haven't used charcoal pencils before. Art has always been my favorite way to escape from the busy work-life. And sketching using simple and affordable mediums is one of the best ways to express emotions and the stress from the daily workload. I've been into art since the age of five and I continued to grow my practice every day. Inside this course, you will find everything you need from the list of equipment to the process steps and easy to follow sketching tutorial. So you can start working as you follow along with me. I've also broken down the steps into multiple videos so you can find it easy to begin practicing called sketching as you watch the videos. The end of the class, I prepared a little class project for you that you can find under the Project and Resources section in case you are interested in participating and sharing your work with me and other students, either for inspiration or for feedback. If you're interested in drawing with charcoal pencils, join me on this class and let's draw some angel wings together for the next hour. 2. Class equipment: The equipment that we need for this class is first a sketchpad to draw on. I always go for the size A4 because I liked the size for my own drawings. But if you have something else available at home, like something bigger or smaller that you want to use, then you can do that as well. Then we have a pencil. It's important to have a pencil when you're drawing with cold, especially as a beginner because it will be much easier for you to fix mistakes. Meanwhile, a few start the straight using the charcoal pencils, then it might be more difficult for you to erase mistakes if you draw it. And then we have these three pens. As you can see, I have some different sizes. So the first one is the soft one. So this is soft coal. It is very easy to draw with. And then we have the medium right here. I always prefer medium. I think that it looks the best on drawings, but sometimes you might want to use some different ones. And then finally that there's the hard one. If you want to just have one than I highly recommend going with medium. However, if you want to have all of them three available, then it will be a good idea in case you will have a change in heart later. There's a piece of charcoal. So instead of a pencil, I have a thick piece here. I can use this one if I want to maybe cover a sketch, if I want to cover flex here like this one in my sketch cover if you want to use it faster or if you want to just draw some shapes and some shadows using the piece of charcoal instead of the pencil just to speed up the process. But if you do not have this one, do not worry. It's not that important as long as you have the pencils right here, then we have a pencil sharpener here. This one is for normal pencil, and then I have a separate one for my charcoal pencils. And then finally this paste, it looks like a little bit of a gum. You can find this in the art shop where you can use it instead of an eraser. If you do not have this one, then you can also use the eraser. But I highly recommend getting one of these because it cleans the cold drawing's better than a normal eraser does. This, is it for the equipment that we need for this class? I hope you have everything ready on your table and let's get started on the drawing. 3. Sketching with pencil - First angel wing: Alright, so let's start on sketching the angel wings. And the first thing that I always like to do is to draw a cross in the middle of the page. Because this will help you with the composition of the page, knowing where the drawing is. And especially in a drawing like this, when you are drawing almost two identical way to the left and the right of the page. So this one will be deleted afterwards, but just to help us with the composition. So you don't really have to use a ruler or anything. You just have to use the naked eye just to think of where could be the middle of the page. So now I have almost four same size squares on my page. And then you can get started on sketching the wings. The first style I want to go with something a little bit big and also has some edges here at the end. I'm going to start with the right one. As we said before, that the sketch that you draw with a pencil or something that you will delete later. So you don't really have to worry about so many details. You just have to draw the first thing that you will erase. And then you draw on top of it with the coal. So I'm just going to make the curve here. And then just the wing right here. And then I'm just going to move the Sketchpad so I can draw almost an identical one. See where the lines are helping me with. So the sizes here are supposed to be identical as much as possible. You don't have to be a perfectionist about it. You're drawing a natural wings that are not necessarily 100% identical, but you want to get the best carbon-based when possible. So, so far so good. I'm just gonna try to size the wings. So maybe if this is the size of it. And I can also go, It's right here, so I can have an edge here and here as well. Then I will start drawing just off the wings. So first I'm just going to draw a very thin line here. Maybe make it a little bit tighter in this area. And then again break here and then do the same thing on the other side. I'm just going to do this. I think this one is a little bit too long, so I'm going to shorten it. Right? So this is basically just the body of it where the weight is going to go. And as we said, those lines will be deleted later. Let's get started on drawing some feathers. I'm going to start with the bigger ones. So I'm just gonna go with the top ones right here. I want them to be ECI, so I want the top of it to be sharp. I'm going to do this. And then just drove from imagination what I want my angel wings to look like. It's up to you if you want to draw one by one. So if you want to draw the first wing here and then immediately go to the second one, andro, which right away if you really want to, two ways to be identical. But I think I want to draw the first way and then I can move on to the second one and then I can draw the other way as well. So it's really up to you how you're comfortable with it. When you're first starting out. It's really more about finding that smooth process that gets you in the zone off drawing from imagination. So how are you most comfortable when you're drawing, whether it's with that pencil or with the coal. So just to show you how you can just look at the right size of the wing which you draw, are ready and how you can just copy the drawing decimate. I'm gonna go ahead and continue this wing right here. So I'm just going to continue to draw more feathers. I want something to be in the bag and some of them to be in the front. So the big ones are going to be the ones in the front. Then I'm just going to make it a little bit of space between them. And then this one will be the back feather right here. Then I will draw some more like on the second line of feathers. So I wanted to go like this. And then maybe just make some of them a little bit longer than the others. I'm trying to basically just focus them on this area because in here I will be drawing a different selection of feathers. Maybe I'll just add some feathers right here. You don't really have to worry about the details of this pencil since it will be erased later. And on some of it you will be drawing with coal. Just extend this section here and living bread. The nice thing about drawing something simple like angel wings is that you have the freedom to use your imagination so you don't really have to stick to one particular thing. You can just go with anything that you feel like it looks nice and you want to try it as a beginner. And then from there you can just keep doing the same thing and trying different styles until you reach something that you're really happy with. It's also a good idea if you want some inspiration just to go ahead to a place like pinterest or a place like YouTube, or just even searching for it on Google and just seeing what do they look like. If you just want to collect some drawing inspiration that you can cut and paste from. I don't see anything wrong with trying to get inspired when you're a beginner and just finding that nice style that you want to apply for your own growing. So here I want to go with a different collection of feathers. So I wanted to be a little bit more straight together. So I'm just gonna go ahead and draw some really big feathers here. Then maybe in this area I'm just going to have a very thick feather. Like it will be attached to the body. Alright, so the body of the right-wing is done, and now all I have to do is just do the same work on the left side. So as we said, I'm going to try as much as possible to just draw that same thing, but it's up to you if you want to, especially as a beginner, just test new different ways. And then just see which one you like the most. And as we said, since it's with pencil, the easiest thing for you is just to fix mistakes and redraw the same thing over and over again before you get started on using the charcoal pencils. I think this big feather comes here. I'm drawing this one. And it looks like it's not on the line as it's supposed to. So there's a mistake. I'm just going to try and draw a smaller 1 first, this one. Then go ahead and draw this bigger one here. This is also where the lines that we draw in the very beginning, those to come in handy. So they help you with the composition and copying pasting the wing again. I'm just going to use the pencil sharpener. And then just start on the second line. So here where I start to centralize the feathers to this side, then I'm just going to make those bigger ones right here. The thing I was drawing, maybe wanting for their rights here. So I'm just going to be still here together. Then the final line right here. Then I'm just going to fill this space with more feathers as well. Now the straighten feathers. I'm just going to first draw this big feather right here. Alright, so we're done with just drawing the very first sketch. And now I'm gonna go ahead and wipe all of this out. So I will see is just very, very thin lines of drawing that I will just be fixing afterwards. So just go ahead and clean everything you drew. And as you can see here, they're almost gone, but you still can see where you drew these lines. If you look at it afterwards and you see that you're unhappy with it, then you can just go ahead and start growing again. You can do this process as many times as possible until you're happy with the drawing. And remember, this has nothing to do with the end result is just the very basic sketch that you're drawing just to see how the end result will be. So go ahead and wipe the drawing after you're done. And then we can move on to the next video where I'll start with the charcoal pencils. 4. Sketching with charcoal - First angel wing: Alright, so I wiped the pencil drawing with my piece of paper right here. And as we said before, you're welcome to use a normal eraser if you do not have one of those. And then now we can get started with the drawing using the coal pencils. I'm gonna go with a medium one, this one right here. And then I'm going to get started with drawing the basic lines here. So when you're drawing now with the colvin source, you have to be a little bit more careful. Of course, you can still fix mistakes, but it will not be as easy as when it is with pencils. Didn't make this edge here a sharp one. I also want to make this one a little bit more front than the back wings. So instead of having the line stuck to it now I just want to move it a little bit to the back. So I'm just gonna do this. And then just finished the line right here. Now I will just do the same to the left-wing. So I'm just going to draw this line this way. And then do the same thing with this big feather right here. So I'm just going to draw the edge first. Just trying to measure the size between these two. So I assume it will be somewhere around here. And then do the same thing right here. So I think it will be around this area. And then this final bump right here. So as you can see here, I'm a little bit more careful drawing these lines right now. At the beginning when I was drawing with a pencil, I just really just wanted to sketch the first thing and then clean it up and then start with the charcoal pencil. Also a little bit more attention to details. And of course, a lot of mistakes can happen. You do not have to worry about that. You can make your best as a beginner. And then afterwards, you will be drawing a little bit more faster and a little bit more smoother. You might want to start from scratch and you do not have to feel bad about that. It's never a waste of time when you're starting something from scratch and you're new to it. So just be patient with yourself when you're doing something for the very first time. And then your hand will take on the new material, especially if this is your first time growing with charcoal pencils. I'm gonna go ahead and paint this very last feather right here. I'm going to try to do the exact same thing. So I'm just going to make it a little bit more back like this one. Then I will start this time instead of from the firm itself feathers, I'm going to start with the smaller ones because I want to give them more details. Then by the end of it, I will just draw the bigger feathers right here. So I'm going to start first with drawing the rest of this feather here. So let's say that I want to just stretch it a little bit to the top from both sides. And then maybe give it a small photo right here. It's okay to also improvise like I'm doing right now. So I did not draw this feather using the pencil. But just right now I thought that will look good. So I wanted to do it and it's okay for you to do the same as well. So it is a little bit too risky since I didn't draw it with pencil, but it's okay because at the end we are not drawing a copy-paste thing, we're just using our imagination. I'm going to start with the small feathers from this side as well. And then do the same thing here. I just drew the last 1 first and then this till one. I'm just going to draw it here. Alright, so now I'm going to move to the second line. So the feathers that are located in this area and this one right here. So I'm gonna do this one. I'm going to rely a little bit on the ones that I already drew with a pencil. So I'm just going to try to redraw them with the cold pencil. I'll just draw the front 1 first. And then just the back when do the top of it this way. This will be a back feathers here. So now I will do the same. Then the third one, cylinder the carrier than the others. So I'm done with this one right here, and then I have these three left. So this one. And then this is the back feather. And then another line again. So I'm gonna start with the top one right here. I'll draw this one right here. Then the back one. I'll do the same thing again. And then back one. I'll make those a little bit bigger than I did when I was drawing with a pencil. I think I will draw another big one right here. Alright, so let's start copying pasting. So this is the first and then second one is a little bit bigger. And also to the bag. Then comes the feather number five or six. So as you can see here, I'm looking at each one of them as I drew it. So I'm looking at the right side and then see which further I drew and then just try to copy paste it. And as you can see also the lines that I drew first now are changing a little bit. So I'm not really relying a 100% the pencil drawing, but just trying to use as much of it as I can. We have this fellow right here, but I just want to draw this 1 first and then the top one. So see here, I drew this line here and it will be a little bit more difficult to clean it, but it's not impossible. So I'm just going to try and do that. That I will just draw the final big feather right here. They're not a 100% identical, but I'm happy with how they look. I want to try to draw the very first line towards the end. So this one right here, but it is up to you if you want to follow the same process or not. But for right now, I want to draw the bottom feathers and I want to give them a little bit of a curve. So I'm going to start with the very last one right here. Just a very, very small, almost noticeable curve right here. Just to shape the way like I did in the very edge right here. So I'm gonna do the same thing on the other side. I will have to do some fixing above the address of them because they're not even but that's okay because I will have to give them some shadows at the end. I just feel like there's something missing here because this one is coming from the end. Meanwhile, as this one is not the same line, so I'm just gonna go ahead and try to fix this one. This way. We have two feathers, but they do meet in this line right here. Alright, so now I will move to the very final line and I will be drawing the biggest feathers. So I will start with a very big one right here. Then it's smaller here. And then just continue with align oneself them to be in the bag so we just drawing the edges of them. So this one, for example, this one right here. I left some empty space right here. Then now I will just copy paste the drawing. So first I will go with the biggest one. I'll try to make it as identical to the right one as possible. And then just keep looking at the right feathers as I move on with the drawing. So I'm just going to make those a little bit bigger like I did in the right-wing. This one was a shorter feather, and then this one was a little bit bigger. So I have the first one here not completed yet. Now I have first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh. So I assume I have up to this one right here, 234567. So now I have the back one. I'll draw it after I draw the feather number eight. Just a little bit shorter and then the back one is longer. So just to take a look at it and see if it is even. It is almost even since this one is the longer. And then we have a short-circuit feather here. Then I will just continue. Then a back further right here. I'm just going to sharpen my pencil a little bit. And then I have these set rewrite here and then this back one. So I'm going to draw the first one. I assume that there is a feather here that I didn't draw them. So that's it for sketching the angel wings where the charcoal pencil, Let's move on to the next step and start adding some details and some shadows on the feathers. 5. Charcoal drawing - First angel wing: Now that we're done with the sketch of the wing so we can get started on adding some details and some shadows. The nicest thing about drawing with cool is that shadows come up very naturally as well as details. So it is up to you to add details as you want or you can also apply the same process that I'm using for my own drone. So whenever you feel like something fits to your drawing, you can do the same or you can skip the details I'm adding to my own drone. Let's start with the right way. I'm just gonna go ahead and thicken the lines a little bit. I want to add these two main lines to be a little bit thicker. So I'm just going to shrink that Elizabeth and make them a little bit bigger here in the middle. And then do the same thing to the other line as well. So first I drew the edge lines and then I just fill it up with cool. Then I'm just going to darken this one as well. Then I will move on to the wings. So just be very careful with that. Your hands, they get normally very dirty and then you can see that they're affecting the drawing. I mean, I don't mind it, but you might want to keep some of them white. So just be careful with that. And of course, towards the end, you can always clean your painting with the eraser or the piece of pasted that you have. So let's start with the first way. I'm just going to make sure that they're all edge like this one right here because I like the style for this one that I'm drawing. And then just continue with all the feathers. Drawing some lines in there because I want to give them a little bit of shade. And not necessarily for all the feathers, but I really want, the top wants to be darker and more visible. So as you can see, you start first with growing the thick line. And then afterwards, you can just draw like really soft lines in the middle of it. You can see how drawing the final lines on the waist just really gives them a shape. So I just take a look at the difference between these ones right here and the first ones. So this is also goes to emphasize how important it is to not worry about the very first lines that you draw, because you can always make changes. And the very first time you might see the drawing, you might not like it, but that's because it is incomplete. So the more details that you give it, and especially when you are drawing with coal, because it is simply just black and white, so there's one color. So the more details you give your drawing between whites and black and everything great in the middle is going to shape the painting because at the end it is just black and white. The details that you are giving with the cold pencil is really what makes the drawing different from just simply drawing with a normal pencil or with colors. I want these middle wants to be a little bit darker, so I'm giving them more gray shade here in the middle. And I'm going to show you in the upcoming step how to even make it more darker and more natural. But right now we have to start with a basis. You can see how some of the people on my hand already caused this. And you can easily just remove it by wipe and it's really gently around the painting with the piece of paper. Are there ways that you have? I'm gonna give this a little bit more detail here. I just feel like they look a little bit boring. So I want to think of that a little bit to make them look like they're behind each other. And also give them some more detail on this side. And then this very big fellow right here. I'm just going to color it's more from the bottom. And I wanna keep it wide here on this area. So I like how it looks. I think that there's enough details for now. When I moved to a shadowing, then it will be a little bit more gray. But for right now, I'm going to move on to the second wing and then just do the same work. As you can see, the drawing is really starting to come together. And most importantly, the details that we want to show in coal are more visible. I'm just going to sharpen my pencil own bed. You can see when you sharpen your pencil that the lines are a little bit more sharp on the drawing. You might want to redo some of them that you drew with a thicker cool. And also if you see something details like this one right here that were drawn in normal pencil. Don't worry, because towards the end, once you're done with the entire painting, you can just remove these with an eraser or this one right here. So now I'm going to start with the second line and then just continue to do the same work. Whenever there's some lines that have been drilled by mistake, I'm going to try to just cover them as much as possible. And we're almost done with the centered feathers right here. So I'm gonna move to these ones. And then just draw these tiny feathers right here. I kept the first one is white because I haven't really made up my mind if I want them to be shared or not. So I will do that once I just take a final look at the drawing. Once I'm done with adding these details, I know that these set to big feathers look incomplete, but once we move on to the next step, you will see how I will just finish the color grading of them. So right now, I'm gonna do these final feathers right here, the ones that are straightened. And if you remember, when I was drawing them, I said that there has been some mistakes and the details because they're not even not like these ones right here. So now I'm going to work on Evening them out as much as possible. Also, always remember to take a look at the other side just to make sure that you have to almost identical wings. And especially when you're trying to draw these edges. So everything that goes on the edge of the wings in the middle, you can have a little bit of freedom. But if you just really want to be as precise as possible with your drawing, then it's really going to be helpful to take a look at what you have done in the first slide and try as much as possible to copy it. This final one looks Olympic thing from here. So I'm just going to thicken it and give it a little bit of an edge in here. And now I'll just darken them from the inside. Remember to be very easy on the pencil when you are giving the shade. Like here in the middle, you don't want to draw a really thick lines like these ones. You simply just want to wipe the pencil over the sketch pad and just give it a little bit of color. Just set it loose towards the end. So you will have discolored grade between y and then goes a little bit darker. Right? So this isn't for adding the details. Right now. I'm just gonna do a little bit of cleaning and then we can do the final step. 6. Final touches - First angel wing: So adding the final details requires just your fingers. And there might be some materials that you can find inside the art store, but I always like to add these details using my hands and step because I liked the outcomes of it. What do you have to do is just simply blend the painting together. So let's say that you want to go ahead with these two big feathers right here. So you just simply try to blend the colors together. Because it is cool to be very easy for you to do that. And it will come off very, very smooth in the color grading. So as you can see, it goes from dark and you're just simply spreading the color all around the feather. So I'll just do the same thing. And do not worry about mistakes like in case some of the code will be spread outside because you can always use the eraser or the piece of paste to clean it up. It will also be very easy since the amount of coal is very, very minimal. So if you feel like one of them is darker than the other, you can always just add a little bit more. Actually want to darken both of them and the edge is right here. So I'm just going to do that. Then just do the same. Blending again. Of course you will have to do a lot of hand-washing afterwards, but I do find that the results are worth it. Then I will just do the same thing with the other. Sometimes you need to use your pinky for it because the painting is small. I want all these feathers to be in the same color, so it's okay to do this. But if you were grading from darker to lighter, you want to just go in one lines. So from left to right, like I'm doing right now. But if you want to just color the entire thing, you can always just blend it this way. And then I will just do the same here. And then just continue with the same feathers on top. Then I will just apply the same process to the other side. I'm just looking at the places that need a little bit more in both sides and I'm doing them maybe just a little bit right here on top as well. And then now I'll just do a little bit of cleaning. So I'm just going to tighten this one here top and maybe just hear a little bit as well. Alright, so this is how you grade the coal using your hand. Of course, if you're not comfortable doing that, if you're not comfortable with getting your hands dirty than just feel free to skip this step or maybe just use the the coal pencil to do more grading. But for my own personal preference, I find this to be a bit of a part of the experience in drawing with coal. And I do like to get my hands dirty. So it is really up to you if you want to do this step or just skip it and just rely on growing with the colored pencil. 7. Let's take a final look at the drawing: Alright, so the final thing I'd like to do before I stop a drawing or a painting is to give it a final look and pay extra attention to detail. And always look at what could be improved. Maybe not necessarily in this one, but maybe in the future one. There's something that a lot of artists, beginners or advanced there think of is, my painting is not finished. And this is a feeling that you're always going to look at regardless of what stage of drawing or painting you're on. Because There's always something that can be added to a painting that you can change and make it better. However, I do not like to do that. I like to respect the work that I've done and put it aside and start a new one that will be much better. But in every case I like to give the final two minutes of my work just to see what can be improved. And in this case, I did find something which is, for example, these two right here. You can see that this one is etched and it's basically right far away from everything else. Meanwhile, this one is too close to the other feather right here. So this is something that I can fix before I started to work on this drawing. And it can be easily fixed just simply by just drawing an extra line right here. So it is not really the same feather because this one is a little bit darker, but it's just an extra something that I want to do just to be satisfied with my work. And maybe I will just detail this one right here as well. Just make it a little bit more on edge. And then just to do the same here, I'm just going to darken this feather right here as well. And then I will also try to rate the coal, Elizabeth. I think this one got a little bit too dark, so all I can do is just clean some of the coal with my piece of paper. So they're very small detail of course you can always take a look at it the next day and see if you want to change something before you start working on it. But this is something that I recommend, especially for beginners, because you can take a look at this and see, okay, maybe next time I want to make these feathers right here a little bit darker. Maybe I do want to give them some grade right now, or maybe I just want to keep them white eyes. They are. Just take the final five-minutes of your time to reflect on your work and see how happy you are with the work. And then by the end of it, you can decide if you want to make changes on the upcoming one, or you want to follow the exact same process for your upcoming artwork and you're very satisfied with the results. 8. Sketching with pencil - Second angel wing: Alright, so let's draw another set of wings. And this time I want to go with every different style. So the first one that we drew was aligned with more vertical. This time I want to go with something a little bit wider, so that design is more horizontal. Let's go back to the very basic and draw some lines in the middle of the page. I'm going to use the pencil sharpener. I want to go for is more white on the sides. So I'm going to start with drawing the lines here at first. I think this time I'm gonna go with the left-wing first. So you know by now that these lines do not matter a lot of that because they will be cleaned up. So I'm just trying to copy the exact same one that I drew here on the left. And now I want to go with a very wide line here. And then just do the same thing. And afterwards, I'm just going to give it a first shape. So I think I want it to end here and then here afterwards. So this is basically it. This is all I need to start drawing the weights. And I think I wanna go with really long feathers this time. So the very first thing that I want to do is just to draw with the bone off the wane. So I'm going to start with this one right here, the line. And I'm just going to give it an edge on this side right here. Taking it to your friends. And then maybe just stop it here in the middle of the wing. Then I will do the same thing on the other side. When you're drawing from imagination, it might be difficult to imagine the end result. It's okay just to try and test some different ideas. And then just see which one that works best for you. Then I will have the longest feather right here. And then the same thing here. So I really have to make sure that lines are even. So almost on this side. And then I will start to grow the wings on this side first. So I went to grade them this way just to finish the weighing on this side right here. So every feather to the bottom is going to be a little bit shorter. I think I want the waste to be centered. So I'm just going to fix these lines right here. You're just going to make them a little bit thinner and more centered to the edge of the bone right here. So now I need a little bit thicker, but George or feathers. And then I'm just going to finish this centered collection of feathers right here. Right? So now I will move to the other side and I will just copy paste what I've done so far. We have these four long ones. Then we have this thick and short feather. Then we have 23456 small ones. I think this one should be a little smaller. Alright, so I'm gonna go back now to the other side and draw the rest of the feathers. Also continued to grade them a little bit closer to the end of the wing. Then we'll do the same thing on the other side. Now I would grow the bottleneck links right here, so they will look very neat, like the same size. That's what I have in mind. And they will also look very straight on the side. So I'm going to start with the first one. I actually want the first one to be a little bit curved outside the wing. So I'm gonna do this. Instead. They just continue to grow them. They will also have to be very, very centralized on this side. So I will just continue to draw them very close to each other. And then just do the same thing on the other side. So you'll see here that this will be the front feather and then the other ones will just be back from each other. 7812345678. So I think that we're a little bit thinner. So I will just try to make something a little bit bigger. Or I will just keep them as they are I'm doing, I would just add another plane right here. Right? So this is the pencil sketching. Let's move on to the next video and get started on sketching with the coal pencil. 9. Sketching with charcoal - Second angel wing: I will go ahead and take the medium colored pencil and get started on sketching the wings. So I'll start with the bones right here. I want the lines to be very, very straight. So this is why I'm being very slow and drawing them so I can avoid as many mistakes as possible. Then I will do the same thing for the other wing. And by now you already know the process. So you shouldn't worry about if you made a line that you want to change or you're unhappy with how incomplete the drawing looks like. I'm going to start with drawing these big feathers right here. I'm just simply redrawing the lines that I drew with my pencil. And then I will just do the same thing on the other side. So I want to count the feathers. So I have 123456789101112. So what I have in mind, I'm want to count the same number of feathers. That's number six. I have halfway to go. 12345678. This one, right? I have a feeling that this is a little bit longer than this one right here, mainly because I made them sicker, but I don't think it's a big problem. Now I will start on the middle feathers. So those starts from this side and they are centered here around the bone. I'll draw the second 1 first. This one starts from here. It's a little bit in the bag. Then comes this little bit thicker one. Just to complete decentralization. This will be your final one right here. So now I'll just complete the lines to the end. This will be covered with the shadows I will be creating. I just like to have the drawing completed first. And then I will draw the swings here. So first this bone, and then the other ones will be behind it. Safety for these this area right here will be fully covered when I do the shadows. But just to continue the lines. And now I'll start on the other side. I think I want to sharpen my pencil a little bit. Just to get center lines. It gets easier to grow them as well, especially that I'm trying to grow very straight lines. And then the bone for the feathers. I think that I made these ones here a little bit too short, so I will have to fix this. 10. Final touches - Second angel wing: So this time I want to go with a different way of grading. So I want these edges of the wings to be very dark and then I want it to be lighter as we go to the both sides of the wings. And I also want to use my piece of charcoal, so I want to use this one to color and darken the areas. So I'm going to start with this right-wing right here. As you can see, the lines that you get from this piece are very thick. So in case you're drawing something really large, then it will help you speed up the process. I just wanted to show you how you can use it when you want to grade. And it's also easier for you to spread this piece as well, because as you can see, there's so much coal here. Then when we move on to spreading with finger than you can spread it faster and you'll have more amount of coal to spread around the drawing. So I'm going to start here with this one as well. And just add a little bit of color. Just here right on the towel fits. And then I will use the pencil again. I want these to boost to be fully dark with some lighter gray around these areas. But I will start with working on the now because once we move on to the grading, then I can finish them. But for now I'm going to move to the wings. So these will be lighter on the edges. But I'm just going to draw them again. Just to give them that final detail. I think it fits to add another feather right here. Then I'll just move to the second collection of these feathers. And then the last collection here, the ones in the bottom. So as you can see, all we're doing is just redoing these lines and just sharpening them a little bit and giving them a darker black color. So now on the other side, I'll just redo the same work. We can see some of the lines that I drew in the beginning, a change because these were drawn with coal. I will try to cover that whenever I started at the grading process. And then now the final selection of the feathers, those big ones right here. It gets easier to sharpen the color and darken it once you already have the sketch done and all you do is just draw on top. It's faster also then during the first lines because you will have to think about your composition and probably in the same way. Left to right, or vice versa. Alright, so the lines are done, and now I want to move straight to grading. So since I want the darkest to be here, I will start with adding some great on this side. So I'm just going to go ahead and start immediately with spreading the colon, this area. I want them to be white here as much as possible. So I'm going to try not to touch that area that much. But even if you do, do not worry because you will be able to clean it afterwards using the eraser or the piece of elastic right here. So I'm just gonna do the same thing on the other wing. I really love the results of grading the coal on around the sketch because that's what makes it unique from any other different material that you can create. Art width. Once you feel that there's not enough to spread, we can just create a few lines. Then I will just stop here before I touch the edges of them. So I'm just gonna go ahead and do the same thing for B. So I'm just going to give them a little bit of grapes. Almost feels like I'm creating shadows for the feathers in front because there's shadow for this one right here. And then this is the shadow for the collection of these feathers. I'll just do the same for these clips, like there's enough coal here, so I'm just going to grade it. And I just wiped clean this up. Just to keep that difference between the beginning and the end of them, just to keep them a little bit wider than the back feathers. I want this edge here as well to be very dark. And then I will just apply the same steps to the other side. So now I will be doing the final selection. So those straight feathers right here. I'm gonna be doing the same thing, just giving that little bit of shadow, then just spray in it. So right now, I want to clean the places that I want to remain white like I did to these ones right here. So just easily without ruining the lines, I'm just going to pass my piece of plastic around them just to straighten that lightened in them. And also remember that using an eraser could work as well. However, that if you use an eraser, you might need to clean it really well because there's gonna be some leftovers and it's just going to clean molar want the art here. So I'm just going to be removing this darkness that is caused by my hand most likely. And of course we should apply the same steps that we did when we were working on the first piece of art, which is taking a look at the work that you've done and thinking whether there's something that could be changed. I think in my example, the sign, it will be that the shadows that I created should be a little bit less than they are. I would want to go with just simply drawing small line here and then trying to spread the coal over it. However, I don't think it's that bad that I made them this thick, so I'm just going to leave it as it is. This is it for drawing the angel wings. I really hope that you find the process easy to follow. I tried to go with that two different designs drawing from imagination. I wanted to show you that can be really anything that you want to draw. You can just start with drawing the body of the wing. And then from there you can just fill it up inside as you wish. And of course maybe the very first one that you will be drawing will not be very satisfactory because you might make some mistakes and you want to start again. However, I really recommend that you give yourself some time, try to finish the drawings that you start. And then with practice, it will get much easier for you to draw with coal and not have to throw out your work. So thank you for following along with me and I really hope that you enjoyed this.
