About This Class

Hey there,

In this short skillshare course we're going to learn a very powerful and simple card trick called "Do as I Do". This magical effect, together with "The Ambitious Card" or "Triumph" are part of what are considered 'classic effects'.

Do I need to have any skills to learn this?

You don't need to have any sleight of hand skills as this card trick could be considered self-working, as there is no sleight of hand required, merely using 2 very important concepts of card magic.

What do I need for this card trick?

You will need 2 decks of playing cards. Any 2 decks will do. If they have a different back, that's better.

How long will it take for me to perform this card trick?

After you learn it you'll be able to execute it immediately.

What are the playing cards you used in the class?

They are Somnium Playing Cards.

Yo, my name's Biz and I love magic, cardistry and breathing. Breathing is the best, isn't it?

I've been practicing, playing and performing as a magician for over 18 years now. I have had shows and lectures all over Europe (France, Spain, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Belarus and Romania), sharing with other magicians and enthusiasts my ideas and creations. I have been publishing original material since I was 15 and have worked with companies from Europe and USA (such as PenguinMagic, Bigblindmedia, VanishingInc, Theory11 and more).

I also really love creating projects that test the limits of my creativity and dedication. Some examples are: 365 Drawings a Day, 10.000 verses in one month, 365 Hours of Magic or 365 Days of Cardistry. Through projects like these ... See full profile

1. 1. Introduction and Performance: Hey guys, my name is Beth. I'm a magician. I've been a magician for the past to our viewers, performing for people and also creating my own projects and magic. And today we are going to be looking at the code magic effect that is called Do as I do. This is a very simple effect that we're going to be learning today, but one that nobody's gonna be able to realize how you performed it. It's beautiful, something that you do, the spectator copies and you get the same result in a magical, magical way. All you need for this course is a deck of cards. So grab a deck of cards unless loan Lewis, I do. We're gonna have two decks and the spectators going to choose one to use themselves. So let's say they choose this one. And we have this one. And we're going to ask the spec the third to copy everything that we do. So we're going to split the deck and they're going to spread the deck as well. We're gonna select the card from the deck. They're going to select the card from the deck as well. The vehicle. Look at it, remember it? And I take a look at my card and remember it as well. We placed the chords besides and square up the deck, I square of mine and he squares up. The cards, go and tap. Just as such, the deck is cut. Everything that I do, the spectator copies and this is exactly what you're going to do as well, is cut several times and then the decks are switched. Now the spectator has the data you are using. N, I have the deck that he was using. We both got through the deck and we're going to take out the course that we selected from the spread. I select the card that I selected and the spectator, we'll go through his deck and he will select the car that he selected from the deck. And when the chords will be turned, both of these will match perfectly. In this case, both of us selected the queen of diamonds. 2. 2. Trick Explanation: Quite improbable effect and looks completely impossible, but it's very easy to perform. In essence. Let us look at what is happening over here. This effect actually uses a principle in card magic that is at the core of many magical effects, and it's called a key card. Let's have a key card, let's say the Joker because it's not that you have two jokers in the deck. So let's go with the ace of spades. It's easy to remember. We're going to look at the bottom card of one of these decks. In this case, I looked at the pink one. Now, we're going to also use something that is called a magician's force when you're giving somebody an option. But they're always going to be picking the thing that you want them to pick. In this case, I want them to pick the pink there because it's the one that I know that the bottom card of. I tell them I don't say choose one. I say point f1. Let's say the point that this one I say, Are you sure? And they say yes, okay, I will use this one. And then you will use tao1. They had no idea previously what I wanted to do. So it feels as if they actually pointed to the deck that I will be using. If they point at this one, I will say, are you sure? They'll say yes. And I'll go used in that one. And now we'll use this one. In either scenarios. It will feel completely natural to them because the pointed at one, this is a very, very shortly explained called the magician's force. I know that the bottom part of this deck is the ace of spades. I don't care about anything that's happening on my side of the deck. All I have to do is just make sure that I perform in such a way that the card that they select will end up next to the ace of spades. We do that by spreading the deck. We tell the spectator to copy every one of our actions as if they are a mirror. We take a quote from the deck and put it aside, they do the same thing. They take a card from the deck and they put it aside. There. We'll look at the court and we will look at the code, but this code doesn't matter. So forget it completely. Once you look at it, they look at according to have speeds. We place the card on top of the deck. And what we have to do right now that is essential is cut the deck. So we're going to cut the deck. Notice I cut and then I complete the cut. And as such, I will be moving the ace of spades exactly on top of their selection, in this case, the torque speed. Now, here is a beautiful thing that you can do in card magic. It doesn't matter how many times you cut the deck as such, by cutting and completing the cut, the current will always stay one next to each other because you're not shuffling them. But because you're cutting so many times, it will feel as if it's impossible for you to know what card the spectator selected. Then switch the x and you give out the instructions of going through the deck and selecting the card that you previously saw. But what we're going to do instead is go through the deck and look for our key code. This case the ace of spades attempted to them. There we go. The ace of spades. The current that is on the right side of the ace of spades is the two of spades, their selection. This is normal because the ace of spades was on the bottom and then we cut the deck and if ended up on top. So the card that we're going to be picking out is the tool of speed. We place it down. They will go through the deck. But, but, but, but but, but the term that they will take out, the card that they have selected as well. Once you turn each card, they will see that you both selected the same card. It is one of those effects that is so easy. But because you are using a principle in magic that spectators are not aware of, it is impossible for them to figure out just what did you do? It doesn't make sense. That is the basics of the effect. 3. 3. How to Make it More Fooling: Now let us look at a couple of things that you could do in order to make this a bit more fuller. There's situations where you're going to be performing for somebody that you know is very perceptive and they're able to backtrack everything that happened. As such, you might want to be doing a couple of steps in order to guarantee that that person has no idea how in the world you did what you did in this moment. The way that you do this is by first really letting them choose a deck for themselves. So just say Choose any deck that you want to use. Let's say they choose this one, that one, and you tell them please copy everything that I do. And you've turned the deck like this and they will turn the deck like that. And you tell them to shuffle. Once the shuffle, tell them to stop. I mean, you stop. So they will stop and they will stop here and then you tell them to put the deck down. I mean, you don't have to tell them anything. It's just going to put the deck down as well. What's beautiful about this moment is that because there were shuffling with the course fees SAP, you will know the car that he stopped path search. You will have an instant key card just like that. So this is one of the ways that you can make sure that the spectator doesn't think that you prepared the decks in some way. It's very nice to shuffle the cards and as such, show it to them that you've really been using very impromptu index. Let's say for example, you wanted to take it a step further and you ask them for shuffled both decks before you begin the effect. You tell them Please choose any one that you want in order to use. That one. You asked them to select the card from the deck. Just like that. It will select a card from the deck just like that. There we go. The thing is at this point, you have no idea what the card on the bottom is. You must do something in order to make, get an idea of what is happening on the bottom. So you can at this point give the deck a nice Shofar and they will do the same. And similar to that, you'll be able to see the bottom part. If you wanted to take this a step further, you can bend two chords. The center, well, we drop down one who's right over here. You can bend two cards just like that. After the suspected or shuffles a deck. You can ask them to cut the deck as well. Because the Court is bend that there will always be cutting at that card, you can make sure that this is the current that will end up on the top. Just cut over there. And here's the code that I've bend it. That is the one. So this is another way that you can take this a step further if you really want to pay the efforts. But honestly the fact in itself is strong enough to fall. 99% of people. 4. 4. Magic Philosophy: Now that you've learned this effect, It's up to you how you present it. Everything in magic is about presentation and it's honestly what makes the difference between a core trick and a magical effect. What's the most important aspect in magic is now method is not effect, but its effect. It's how we affect other people through what we do. If you can make them feel thrilled, if you can make them feel curious, if you can make them forget completely about reality and just go into a story that you've tailored for them, then you would have performed magic. And as such, it's up to you what you do with this tool. Not only would this effect they've learned, but honestly with anything that is magic related or not magic related, the power is in your hands and from this point in time, have fun with it. 5. 5. Before I go: My name is busy.
