1. INTRODUCTION: Hi everyone. My name is Mia and I am a freelance short video editor. And in this course I will be teaching you a step by step on how to edit short form videos using Cap Cut Desktop. So as you can see, these are the outlines that you will learn from this course. So now you know what to expect in this course. So before we get started, I have added the assets that we will be using in this class for you to be able to not only see what I show you, but you can also do it for yourself to learn better, leave a comment as well if you have any questions or concerns about the course. And I will do my best to reply to them. So without further ado, let's get started. There's nothing more damaging to a young man than not realizing his fullest potential in life. His fullest potential in strength and courage, in honor and impact in a relationship. 2. DOWNLOAD CAPCUT & CAPCUT BASICS: The first step that we should do is if you don't have cap cut, you can download cap cut. This is the website right here. Once you have cap cut, you open cap cut. You can see here in this upper left, there's media for where you can import your videos, audios or photos that we are going to use for editing later. We have also audio for the music, if you want to put it in your videos, as well as sound effects. So we are also going to use sound effects in a bit. You can also add text in different styles to your videos. So there are also stickers where you can also place in your edits, the effects, transitions, filters. So don't worry, we are going to incorporate all of this and I'm going to show you how you're able to use it. 3. BONUS DOWNLOAD VIDEO CONTENT TO EDIT: All right, so the first and foremost important thing is for us to get content for us to edit. So the first thing that I did that helped me get started in video editing is use the content that I'm already interested in. So one of which is a video podcast from a Youtube channel. So this is just one of the channels that I'm interested in listening or watching. So what we do is copy the link. And then I go to this website, save from Net. Again, the links are provided in the project and resources tab. Just paste it here, just wait for it to load. The default here is you get the 720 resolution for the video, but what we want to do is we want to get the highest resolution for the video in order for us to have a high quality video. When editing or publishing the content, you click more. Of course, if you want to get the highest resolution, it doesn't provide audio, which we can fix in a bit. Just click MP 41080. It will redirect you into a different link. What you do is right click save video S and just place it in the folder where you want it to be. Once you're able to download that, you go to Youtube to MP three and just paste the same link and convert it. This is where we're going to get the audio file. Just click download. After you're able to download the video file and the audio file, you just click the two files and just drag and drop it in Cap Cut. And again, just drag and drop it in the time line. Now your father who's absent, who chose to, you have the video file that is ten ADP and the audio file for the video. And now we are going to see this as one file. You just click on this upper right to export and make sure that you match the video resolution, which is ten P, for it to be the same quality that you want. And just click and you'll have one file. 4. SHORT FORM BASICS RATIO, SCALING, & KEYBOARD SHOR: There's nothing more damaging for the purpose of saving time. I've already cut the video for us to use in this course. In terms of ratio, this is 16 by nine. What we want to do is, since we are editing a short form video, we're going to use the nine by 16. There are two options where you can adjust the scale of the video. Either just click this and hold and just drag it. All right, so that is one option. The second option is you can adjust it here in this scale. Toggle again. Just click and hold. Just slide it, but I much prefer to do it this way so that there are two lines from the top and the bottom, where you can see if the video perfectly matches the size of the nine by 16 ratio. You can also move this, but again, just click and hold and just move it. You can also see the lines, the guides where you can also whether or not the video is at the center or not. All right. So you can see that now that we have the file, you can also cut the footage by using a shortcut which is C. This is the razor tool. Just click it to wherever you want to cut the video, just click that and press the lets, the portion of that video is gone. Then if you don't want to cut that video, just click control Z and that will undo the cut that you just did. If you press control Z again, it will remove the cuts in the video from the timeline. You can also change the shortcuts when editing for you to edit faster. So you can also make different types of shortcuts based on your preference. 5. TEXT ADDING CAPTIONS, TEMPLATES, ANIMATION, & FRE: The first thing that we are going to do is to add captions or to add subtitles. In order for you to do that, you go here to Text. Just click Auto Captions and make sure to make this into English and just click Create. Once that's done, you have captions. However, there are times where Cap Cut is unable to create captions for the words that are being said. So make sure you have to check if the words match what is being said. So let's see. There's nothing more damaging to a young man than not realizing his fullest potential in life. His fullest potential in strength and courage, and honor and impact in a relationship. So for me, I like my captions being timed on what is being said. So let's do that now. So in order for you to also cut in the captions, it's the same shortcut which is the razor tool or just click E. So you will cut into the captions. And then if you want to edit the captions, you just click the caption and just go here and type whichever words that are being said for the captions. All right, so now that is fixed, the captions are in the right timing and order and spelling. You can opt to use this type of caption, which is the system default font style. Or you can also change it into a different font. One of which is, if you want to get more free fonts, you can go to this site, the Font.com so you can choose a lot of different types of fonts. In addition to this, you have to also be aware if the tick box to apply to all is ticked or not. Because if this is ticked, it will apply to all of the captions. So just be wary of that. Or if you just want to just change one thing in one of the captions and you don't want the other captions to be affected, you just have to untick this box and just make the necessary changes. For example, you want to change a color for this specific caption that's red. Since to apply to all box is not ticked, it will not apply the other captions. As you can see, the other captions are still white, but this is red. When you tick the box to apply to all, you have to be in a specific caption for this. So you have to be in the caption which is a different color in order for it to be applied to the different captions. That is how apply to all works. You can opt to choose the design for your own captions, or you can also use templates. As you can see, this is some of the templates which you can use. Some of the templates are free, some are in the pro version. You have to also be wary of that as well. Because once you export, and you're not using the pro version, it will not export. We can also do the word art, which it will change the style of your text. Make sure that if you don't want to use this template, you click this, it won't apply. However, if you click that, the settings that you placed in your captions will disappear. What you can do is you just control Z and it will undo all of those things. The next one is animation. Animation is how you want to animate your captions. For example, there's nothing. You can also adjust the duration of the. There's imation for your captions. You can either make it slower or make it faster again. You should click this so it would not apply to your captions. Scale this into a different size. Again, if you don't apply to all box, it will not apply to the other captions. But if you want to apply the scale to all of the captions, just make sure to tick the box and it will apply to the other captions. In the captions, you can either add a stroke to it. Let's put this red so you can see it better. The stroke is the outline for the text. You can adjust the thickness of the stroke in the color as well. You can experiment on that. You can also add a background for it. This is a background. You can also again, change a different color for the font. You can also choose to either use upper lower case or title case. You can also make it bold, underline. In italicize, you can also adjust the character spacing for it. It will look like that. Get back to zero. There is a line. If you want to change the line, you can also do that. It would look like this. Change back again to zero. There is also glow, there's a glow effect for the text. You can also add shadow to your text. The shadow is the drop down shadow. I'm going to full size this, so you can see there is a shadow underneath the text. You can also curve your font. What I want to do is I want to add a background for my captions. You can also adjust the opacity for it, just like this. Also adjust the height and the width. You can also, you want to offset the caption in the y axis or the x axis. You can also add rounded edges for the text, it will look like this. It doesn't have the sharp edges as compared to before. Yeah, you can adjust based on your preference. For me, I like it this way. And make sure to click Apply to all. It would apply to all of the captions. I'll add shadow to it. You can also adjust again the opacity, the blurriness, the distance in the angle. 6. STEP BY STEP VIDEO EDITING: So the next thing is adding assets to your edits. So what I mean by assets is the icons, the music, the sound effects, the videos or gifts that you will use for your edits. All of the assets are in the Projects and Resources tab. All right, so let's start adding assets to it. It's Dragon Drop. Make sure that it is in place and it's in the right timing. You can also adjust the scale for this, or you can just type it here on how big you want the icon to be. You can also adjust the placement here as you wish in order for you to adjust faster. Instead of you just clicking one by one, you just hold the left button of your mouse and just use the scroll up and down in the middle of your mouse. It would adjust up and down. The Y is up and down, the X is left and right. I want this icon to move. How we're going to do that is we're going to use key frames. The purpose of the key frames is when you click the position, currently the X, it's in this position which is on the leftmost part. And what I want to do is click the key frame so that it would know that it would start from here. And then just move the toggle on the end or where you want the icon to stop moving, which I want it to end here. Just move the icon to where you want it to end and make sure that the y axis is the same. Just adjust that. It would just move in a straight line so it won't go up or down. Just a tip. If you are going to add key frames, make sure that when you're making changes you are in the right key frame. Or else it will add another key frame. For example, this one. If I make a change here, there's nothing. So it disrupts the flow of the icon. So make sure that when you're adding key frames, you are adding it to the right keyframe. In order for you to know if you are in that keyframe, is the color blue will be seen here. So what happened is the icon moved from left to right. There's nothing more. All right, so now we are able to apply the icon. Now we're going to apply a video. You have a video right here. Make sure that you place it on top. So this is a type of layering when you are editing in your timeline. So whichever is at the top will cover everything else at the bottom. What we want to do here is we want to enlarge the video to emphasize what it is that he is talking about. And since the video is at the top most from all of these assets that you've placed, I want the caption to be seen. So I have to make sure that the captions are seen. So I'll adjust this video to the middle here so that the caption is at the top. You can see the captions, the video is at the middle and it covers the main video that we are editing. So that is how layering works in editing. We can also choose to zoom into the video. So how we're going to do that is again, we're going to use keyframes. Add a keyframe on where you want the video to start. Move the toggle on where you want the zoom to end. We're going to adjust this from the toggle. Just zoom here or you can also zoom out, depends on your preference. And it will automatically add another key frame. It would look like this. More damaging. We saw the zoom there. In order for you to see the difference, I'll delete the added key frames without the zoom more damaging to a young man. Nothing happens because you remove the key frames. All right, so let us add more of what is going to happen in the edit as what I mentioned earlier. I'm going to show you how these effects are going to be used for the icons. For example, this one. I want to animate this icon right here so you can just go to animation and choose how you would want the icon to move or be animated in honor. You can use different animations for it. You can animate both in and out. It would look like this in honor, you can either make it slower or faster. In honor, I want to add a filter for this then, then not realizing his fullest potential in life, a different filter for that. Or you can use an effect for it. For example, this one you can drag and drop. It will look like this. You can adjust the color, the filter, the size, and the texture. You can choose that to a young man. Stickers, we can opt to choose sticks to a young man, it will look like this. Again, just scale and adjust based on the timing. Then not realizing his fullest potential in life. His fullest potential then not realizing his fullest potential in life. We can also use transitions. Transitions can also be applied to the icons and in the video just Jon drop in Honor. It would look like some transitions apply to just the icons and it will not move the video such as this one in there it is. That's a transition. All right, now we are going to add the sound effects. The sound effects is also added in the assets just Jon drop. If you want to just listen to the sound effects, just click this meet clip audio and it will meet this audio. It will only play this one. That is a lot of sounds in which you can use in your editing. Let us add the sounds that matches the effects that we've added. If you don't have the exact sound effects that you want provided in the assets, you can also go to cut audio and you can search for the sound effects that you prefer. Just drag and drop. This is the sample edit that I did quickly. As you can see, I've added icons, the sticker, the transition animation, and sound effects, so it would look like this. There's nothing more damaging to a young man than not realizing his fullest potential in life. His fullest potential in strength and courage, and honor and impact in a relationship. So if you are happy with your edit, you can opt to export and just choose the folder and where you want it to be saved. And you can also change the title and just click Export. There's nothing more damaging. 7. BONUS FREE ASSETS, REMINDERS & FEEDBACK: Just a couple of things for you to also get images or videos for free. You can also go to this website, Pixabay or even pexels. These provide free videos, photos, and at the same time, if you want more emojis, you can also go to this website. You can also, for example, you want the icons for the Apple version. You can also do that here. So you can just click and just write, Click it and just save Image as it would. Save it automatically without any background. There are different icons here as well with different designs and more options to choose from. Well, I didn't use any gifts earlier, but you can also use gifts such as these ones. So you can use shifts. You can also add music either from the cap cut itself or you can use the Youtube studio audio library. This is free. You can also get sound effects from here, which is also free. So make sure that it's royalty free. You don't get copyrighted from using a specific music for your edits. Just a couple of important reminders in terms of editing. So make sure that you have all your assets in designated folders so that you can get them easily. Next is transferring assets in different folders. So make sure that you again have a designated folder for your assets, because if you start moving your assets, it would remove that asset or it would have an error in cap cut and it would say that the file is lost. But you can locate that, you can link that media again to cap Cut and it would retrieve that file. Next is the caption. So be wary of that, apply to all. If you need to change something in one of the captions and not affect the others, make sure to untek that feature as what I've mentioned earlier. And the lock feature, So the lock feature is this one, so if you don't want anything to move in this line, make sure to lock it so it would not get affected. Or if you want to hide everything in this line, you can just opt to hide track this one, the icon here. So it would hide the assets which are in this line if you don't want it to be seen. So exporting file. So make sure again as what I've also shown you earlier is to check the quality of the file. So if you want to save it at ten TP, make sure that the setting is at ten P. Same with four K resolutions. Make sure to save it at four K, the file name. Make sure that you have a different file name if you want to save files, because most of the time, if you have the same file name, it would overwrite or replace your old file. And another thing is backups. So make sure that you duplicate your projects, especially if you start as a freelance editor. So it would happen that clients will ask for revisions, so make sure that if you are going to apply a revision, make sure to duplicate the file. So we have the original copy and the revised copy, you can also link captions and footage. So currently the captions are linked to the main file. So you can see the lines here. When you cut the footage, the captions will automatically move through the timeline. But if you are not careful in cutting, it would delete not only the main video, but also the caption as well. It would look like this. For example, I deleted this, delete, it would automatically move, but unfortunately, it deleted the caption that is linked to that part of the video. So make sure that if you don't want that to happen, just turn off this one so that when you delete a part of the main video, it would not affect the captions. So those are just the pros and cons for linking captions to the main video. Yeah, that is it for this course. I hope that this course has brought you so much value. Once again, please do submit your projects after you're done, so I can see how you're able to apply what you've learned in this course. I look forward to seeing your work and please do leave a review on the course to help you know what to do in terms of improvement in making courses like these. To help people like you to develop useful skills in terms of editing, leave a comment as well if you have any questions, concerns about the course. And I will do my best to reply to them. 8. How to Upload Your Project: Just like to congratulate you for finishing this course. So in this last part, I would like to show you how you're able to upload your projects in skill share so that I would be able to watch what you've done in the project. So now that we are in the last part of the course, you just scroll down. So you can see here in the right part or in the right side of your screen, there is my project and you click Submit project. So in order for you to submit your project edits. So I highly suggest that you go to your G drive, and then that is where you can upload your project. For example, this video right here is your project, so you just click and drag and drop it and you just wait for the video to upload. And once the video is already in your G drive, you go to this three buttons right here, which says more actions, so just click that. And you go to Share, click Share. And as you can see, the general access is restricted, so you just click that and change it to anyone with the link. So once that's done, you copy the link, copy, and then you go back to Skill Share, and you go to project description. So that is where you're going to paste the link so that I can see your project, and you can title your project name, whichever you like. And then once that's done, you click Publish. And now that I'm able to see your edit here. I hope that was useful, and I look forward to seeing your edits. Thank you.
