1. Introduction: How to Gain Fans, Traffic & Leads With an Online Giveaway Tool: Hey, a warm welcome to this itty bitty mini course on how you can use a simple online tool to help drive more traffic to your website, to increase your social media followers and fans. And also to grow your mailing list, which is what I use it for. In this course, I'll show you how I use a tool called Raffle Press. And I'll also let you know of several other tools that you might decide to use and how they all work as a way to bring traffic to your website and to help you gain followers and fans. Let's dive right in. I'll promise to make it easy, fun, and as painless as possible. And if you have any questions, just let me know. I look forward to seeing you in the next lesson. Bye bye. 2. Level Up! Run a Giveaway to Drive Web Traffic + Attract Followers & Subscribers: Hey, welcome. In this lesson, I want to talk to you about an easy way that you can help to grow not only your mailing list, but also the followers on your social media accounts and ding, ding, ding, bonus. Get people to visit your website so that you can generate more traffic as well. Win, win, win. Basically, I started using a tool called Raffle Press. Now, growing my mailing list was something I have been doing the past two years, primarily with Facebook ads and a little monthly art print giveaway. However, recently Facebook has lumped that sort of giveaway contest thing together with gambling and have made it a bit harder to do it that way. But it turned out to be a blessing in disguise because I found a couple of great tools that allow you to do a giveaway and still generate the level of traffic and interest, but without having to spend money on Facebook ads. So I'm going to share that with you now. So first and foremost, let me just show you. So this is the tool that I am using, It's called Raffle Press. And I was reading an article which I will attach to this lesson that compares Raffle Press with another tool called up viral, which someone I know is using rather well as well. And then Raffle Copter, which I had read, another artist was using to amazing results. So I compared those three. I actually ended up choosing Raffle Press because I happen to have a Wordpress hosted website as my main website. Not everybody does. In which case maybe up viral or Raffle Copter would be a better option for you. But for me, this was the most cost effective tool and also easy to set up and easy to use. So I'm just going to show you what am I talking about? Well, let me show you if we go hang on. All right. So what I did. There you go. A little easier to see. What I did is I created a page. You see it's actually from my website, Plana.com art print giveaway. I've only been testing this since January 1 or a little bit before when I set this all up. There are already some things I'm going to do differently next month. For example, A, instead of putting this on a blank white page, I'm going to embed it into my website where I have the header, the footer, my colors, my branding, et cetera. So just to kind of keep it all together, but that's okay. This is just my testing month, so it's okay in a white background, but basically you choose a prize. So if you're an artist, art print is a good solution. If I lived in the US and not in Malawi, I would probably as my prize offer a small original that I could make in one or 2 hours and then just send out. I think that would be the most cost effective, yet valuable prize that you could give to people. Because I'm in Malawi and it would be a nightmare to try to send something worldwide. From here, I'm giving away a reproduction, art, print reproduction on fine art, watercolor paper. From my website, I'm able to buy a wholesale. And when the winner is chosen, I send it to them. The retail value of this image at this size is around $75 So when I put the value, I'm putting the retail value. All right, anyway, another thing I've been doing is experimenting with my text, my imagery. But basically you choose your prize, you put it in, you have some text that hopefully entices people to want to learn how to enter. And then at the bottom here, you will see that I've already entered as a test. So it looks like I have two entries right now, but I have it set up. That first of all, it's mandatory that if someone wants to enter, I need their e mail address and I need their name. So that's how they are going to end up. On my mailing list, my weekly newsletter mailing list. There's this feature here, refer a friend viral. This is a feature you can find on all three of those tools that I just mentioned and one of my favorite art mentors out in the world, John Lechner of Australia who also has, I think it's a free Facebook page called Lead Lead Generation for Artists with all kinds of free resources. He recommended using a feature like this. And basically what happens is people are able to get extra entries by referring their friends. So that is an option here, and if I click on it, it gives me different ways that I can refer a friend through e mail linked in Pinterest, X, Twitter, and Facebook. So that's an option then also gives me an option. I can send people to my Instagram page and I can send people to my Facebook page. Facebook is a bit weird, again with this idea of gambling. I don't know then that you like my Facebook page as an enticement for something. So I actually have used the actions in Raffle press. That suggests that they just come visit the page, but then I put in parentheses and like, so I'm not forcing people to like my Facebook page. I'm suggesting it isn't that nice. So that's what I've done anyway. So this is what it looks like when the user finds my raffle. Let me show you what it looks like on the back end. So here I am in the back end of my Wordpress website, K Palana.com And so I'm in my Wordpress dashboard, and you can see that I had 78 people enter. So far, it's only the first week of running, so I call that a win with 156 entries. However, looks can be deceiving. If I go in here and click on my users, actually quite a number of those people are already on my mailing list who are just entering again. But because of this refer a friend feature, even though they're already on my mailing list, if they want to get multiple entries, they're sending recommendations to their friends who are not on my E mail list. So it definitely works out. It's all good and you'll see some people have one entry, three to. This is something I have to just double check. I haven't noticed anyone with more than three entries, and I think people have supposedly with the referral friend, they're supposed to get one extra entry per person that they recommend. I definitely need to just double check that. Anyway, this is what it looks like behind the scenes. If we click on any random blog post on my website, you will see that in my sidebar. I have obviously a way for people to like me on Facebook about me. And then we win a free art print that is linked up to my giveaway for the month of January. The only thing you have to remember is at the end of every month, not only are you setting up, if you're going to do this every month is you want to just make sure to change the links to the most recent giveaway. You could alternatively make sure that any old giveaways have like a redirect link to the newest one in case anybody accidentally lands on there. I have it on my website. And then if we go to Instagram, I just wanted to show you. You see how I have a pinned post here in the upper left hand corner. That is a post that takes people or tells people how to get to my most recent giveaway. Let's see, was it this one? I it's this one. I also have a recent post where I tell people about my giveaway. The bad thing about Instagram is that you can't actually put a clickable link in the post itself. I say go visit the link in my bio, but you see that I think it had like 125 people like Enter Instagram. I've created a page on my website. I actually called it Link Tree, but it's not Link Tree, if that makes sense that a lot of people use a service called Link Tree which is a third party website, which is fine to use for Instagram. Because as you see, I've got 12345 different links to different things that I do, plus my little intro video. But I put it on my own website because I want to drive traffic to my site. Because the downside of putting more than just your main website link on Instagram as a link is that especially if you're using a link tree, is you're sending people away from Instagram. Instagram doesn't like that, and you're not even getting people to go to your website, you're sending them to link trees website. And the majority of people, when they go to a page with multiple links, are just going to look and go and then move on. And so they're never going to make it to your website. So you want to try to reduce the amount of steps that people would need to go through in order to click and go on your website. I created just a standalone page that I send people to just from Instagram where they can go to my website. But anyway, here's where my raffle is as well. And on Facebook, I've done something similar. Facebook, you have an area where you can put featured things. If I click on Featured, then I also have my art print giveaway back into Wordpress on the back end here. One thing that I like about Raffle Press is that originally I was trying to do all these fancy things. Like when someone entered my giveaway that I had to set up a Zap in Zap ear to then take that person and put them automatically into my e mail octopus mailing list. A lot of people have mail chimp, I have e mail octopus. I may be switching again. I was looking for a way for it to automatically update my list, but then it was a little bit buggy and I found actually I don't even need to do that. I didn't even need to be fancy. It was so simple. If I click on users, you will see that all I have to do is either export the users or export the entries. I am interested in export users. When I export the users, I'll just do it right now. It is making me a CSV file which I can then easily import into my mailing list service. So if you have mail chimp or e mail octopus, it just kind of gives you that big form for you and it's just super easy to import. If you actually need help with that, just let me know. And I'm hoping to actually make some lessons about using mailing lists and all of that, but it's pretty easy to do. You're just importing your list of people so that they can be added to your mailing list. That's super easy. What I think I'll do in the next lesson, I'll just go over how you set up Raffle press so that you can get a little tutorial if you're interested in using this tool. One other thing I just want to say about Raffle Press, it's very cost effective. All three of these tools have free trials. Unfortunately, I think for all three of them you're starting to pay $100-300 per year for the refer a friend feature, Raffle press was by far the least expensive of the three options. Because I have this sort of like pro feature, it actually enables me to make something like giveaways for 20 different websites. So if I wanted to help other artists and idealists, I could actually do that. And it'd be very cost effective, especially if they're chipping in. So that's another option as well. So you could also work together with another business or another artist and run a raffle together or anyway, it doesn't matter, just try a free trial and see if you like everything. I'm actually still on my free trial. All right? I hope this is helpful and I will see in the next lesson. 3. Case Study: How to Set Up a Web Giveaway Tool (RafflePress): Welcome back. All right, in this lesson, let me show you how easy it is to set up a raffle press, art print giveaway. Or if you're in a different industry, it could be anything. It could be a book, it could be a product, something a service. Even my son's school recently was auctioning off drawings that students had made of the different teachers and to raise and generate money for various initiatives. And that was wildly successful. So you can be very creative with your prize. It doesn't have to be a physical object that has to be sent in the mail. It could also be like you write them a song, or write them a poem or whatever it is. So just think about that. But meanwhile, let me show you how to set up a new giveaway. All right, so here I am in the back end of Wordpress and I'm just going to say Ed new. It's going to give me some templates that I can use. The one that I used last time around is this one, the refer a friend viral giveaway. But you have many different ones that have different functions. So we want to grow our Tiktok channel. If anyone has a Tiktok channel, Youtube, Twitter, it'll come sort of all ready to go. I'm going to do this one. And each one also has a demo, which is useful, my awesome prize. And basically it's so intuitive, you just click, you can just change the text very easily, win my awesome prize. I'm not going to do too much with this right now, but then you can put in a image, So let me just grab something off my computer or from my media library rather. All right. Choose image. All right, there it is. Win my awesome prize. Isn't that awesome? Okay. And everything in here log in to enter this give way I originally. So I have this right now. Right now I'm it's set to no and I'm going to keep it like that because I had it set to yes for my current test. And you have to go to Facebook and set up an app. And I did everything, but it was a bit buggy and I just didn't even want to chance it. Plus I want people to give me their e mail. So, you know, it may as well make it the only way that they can enter is by first giving me their e mail. So yeah, we don't worry about that. Right. So I'm just going to save. Okay. All right. Swam back. So right now people will log in to enter the giveaway. And then it's automatically going to ask for their e mail and then they have it populated with just these two things. Right now, join an e mail newsletter. That's what I have on my current one. You can put in whatever text you want. You can give a different value how many entries the person gets if they choose this thing. I like to make this mandatory, can giveaway unless you give me your e mail, I like that we'll make it mandatory. Then you can decide if you want to do opt in confirmation, double opt in e mail. I'm just leaving it as simple as possible. You can also select an integration. Don't know, I have mine set up for Zapier because I thought you needed an integration. It may be that you don't need one at all. I don't know. Let's see. Does it let me do it without an integration. It might yell at me. I think it's okay. Anyway, most of you probably have mail chimp, you can choose whatever your services. Unfortunately, e mail octopus isn't in here. I'm going to actually just leave this one blank, but in my other one that I have for this month, I have it said to. I then went into and connected it to E mail octopus and raffle press. And it's working. But I was finding the bit about sending from raffle press to E mail octopus a bit buggy. I have turned it off and it still works. With that being off, if that makes sense, then I surmise that maybe I don't need it at all. But that's something I'm looking into in testing anyway, Joint email newsletter and then they have this refer a friend viral. Again, I'm going to only make the email newsletter one mandatory. But you can decide how do you want them to be able to share it. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, linked in, and email. And actually you can set the maximum number of friends a user can refer. If left blank, then they can refer an unlimited number of friends. Basically what happens is When you click on Facebook, you get Facebook share options. It's going to ask for some text. I would just use some text that when they share it that that's what people are going to see on their post. It could be very similar to the text you're already using. And then an image, et et cetera, all the same. Twitter gives you less characters. I think Pinterest only gives you 100 characters. I like there's an e mail one as well, and you can give like a subject line. Anyway, that's an option. But let me show you. This is already set up to do the referral friend viral. But I can also go into actions and look at all the many actions you have in here. One moment. All right. So look at all the actions. So visit us on Facebook. I'm using that one in my current one. If you try to use the R page one, it kind of like warns you, like Facebook doesn't allow you to incentivize likes and chairs. So that's why I ended up not using that one but using this one and just suggesting that they like my page, please like my page, Instagram. I did the same thing, so I'm using join an e mail newsletter. The refer a friend which is here, and then the Facebook and Instagram. And I didn't want to go too crazy. I could very easily have about 20 ways to enter, but I didn't want it to be so out of control. Plus, I'm just testing things. However, if you have a Youtube channel, you can entice people to visit your Youtube channel. Tiktok, Pinterest, linked in Twitch. Then hold on a minute. You could have people go to your Youtube and watch a video, and that gets them an entry. That's an option of view Tiktok post. You can send them to a particular post. I'm not sure what this automatic entry is. What is this the user will see on the giveaway. Oh, I guess this is just like you just enter. I don't know in case you needed one that is really flexible. Automatic entry. I like this one. Invent your own again. What should users do? Who knows? Maybe you send them to a particular page on your website and have them fill out a survey. Whatever it is, this is, if you have something really specific that's not listed there, you could have them do that. Answer a question, submit an image like a photo contest, tweet a message, share on Facebook, visit a page, which I think could be a really interesting one, especially if you have a particular offer that you want to alert people to take a survey, leave a comment, write a blog post. Wow. Subscribe to RSS, feed and subscribe to podcast. You have a podcast, you can make that part of your giveaway. Anyway, I'm not going to get into all the little settings here, because also maybe this tool as they continuously upgrade, maybe the screens and options will change slightly, but all the general principles are there. So you set up your giveaway, you set up your actions, you can play around with your design, which I'm pretty happy with this design for right now. Then finally, this is really useful in the settings. You have all different kinds of settings. You can give a special perma link, you can decide how people can enter if you want to show the number of entrance or show the winners or not automate giveaways. I'm not really using this one right now. What else is, if you want people a double opt in, I would just leave this one off for now. This is something you can use with Google Analytics, which I'm not using right now. At least not for this now this one, if you're not using the referral friend, like with my older giveaways or any other page, you can send them to another page once they're done entering. So if you want to send them over to your home page on your website or your shop page or some other kind of landing page, you can use that. It doesn't work with the referral friend because it says it's never completed because I guess they're assuming they're going to constantly refer friends anyway. Just so you know. This is the one about the logging in with Facebook, which I'm not using right now. The only one is it this one. All right. Out of all of these, I think this is the most useful one. So you can generate rules for your giveaway without you having to write them from scratch. You just put in your name, your E mail, what country you're in. Do you want it that it's worldwide? Or only in the US, for example, if you're dealing with the Postal Service or something like that. So you can put eligible locations. I'll just say I'm in the USA. Even though I'm in Malawi. I can actually leave that blank, but my website with the art prints is based in the USA. So I could technically put that here, eligible locations. So let's say Canada generate rules open to legal residents of Canada who are 18. Okay, so that's really super useful. So that's pretty much all that I wanted to share with you about this, but hopefully that gets you started. If you do not have raffle press, please know that no matter what tool that you're using, they're all kind of work the same. But it will take a little bit of time, I suppose, for you to kind of get things up and running. I found Raffle Press to be a great solution for me. I'll probably also help other artists who want to do the same thing in the future. So if you want to ask me questions about it, just send me a message and I will set you on your merry way. I hope this was helpful. All right, see you in the next lesson. Bye. 4. Thank You for Taking This Mini Course! Let's Stay in Touch.: Hey, did you make it this far?
