About me
Why I created this course:

My visits to film festivals in recent years are one of the experiences in my artistic career that I would not want to miss.
I was lucky enough to win more than 70 prizes worldwide with my last short film "Paris you got me" and to be invited to film festivals as a jury member.

I was often asked how I managed to get invited to so many film festivals without the help of a film festival agency or manager. With some interested filmmakers I did some live online coaching, but promised to do a practical course about it one day.

This is also my way of saying "thank you" to everyone who made these trips and valuable encounters possible.

You can follow me here with my art as an independent filmmaker:

1. Welcome to my course: Did you ever dreamed of being invited to film festivals, diving into networking with other filmmakers, becoming an award-winning filmmaker and showing your art to the world. My name is Julie Boehm, and I'm an Independent Filmmaker and artist from Germany. For the last two years, I traveled through the world and won more than 70 awards with my film Paris You Got Me. I was very lucky and I learned a lot on this tour. I also met a lot of other filmmakers that were frustrated of paying too much for the distribution on film festivals. I started doing personal coaching's via telephone and Skype. I still ended up saying, "One day, I want to create a film festival course to teach you all the things I would have loved to know before." The secret of my great feedback was not only a good film, but also a deep preparation for this tour. In this course, we will go through step-by-step to create your professional system that will include your trailer, synopsis, logline poster, and inexpensive, easy website, tips for your social media platforms and much more. Please also check the PDF resources. It is a condensed guide of the whole course. This course is for all ambitious, independent short filmmaker that are open-minded to become their own Film Festival Miniature. Make the best of your film so that the world can see your art. Join me on preparing your baby for the best Film Festival tour you can imagine, let's get started. 2. B01 EPK: Send us your screener, as soon as possible. Where I can find some photos and the biography of the director Film Festivals, to publish it tomorrow. Sometimes you are overwhelmed by the request you're getting from Film Festivals, and when you don't react immediately, they will cut you out of the program. It's very important to have a system you can reach anytime, anywhere you are. Take your time, and don't stress out, we will prepare together, you're very personnel system that works for your film. The Electronic Press Kit. The Electronic Press Kit is a folder system you can set on your Cloud. It doesn't matter which service you're using, just make sure you have enough space on it. Normally, the Press Kits of my short films are around six to seven Gigabyte. I'm used to work with Dropbox, so I have a paid membership. Your first task on this course will be, to create your Folder Structure System, on the Cloud service you want to work with. Here you can see all the folder names. I just put it until number 6, making off production because number 7 and 8 will come after you went to the first Film Festivals. Now it's your turn. Please create your folder system in your Cloud service, and I will see you in the next lesson. 3. Logline and Synopsis: The first thing of electronic press kit is the logline. You have to think of advertising your film on the film poster. It's a brief summary of the film's plot with an emotional hook to stimulate interest. People don't have time and should be short, emotional and teasing. Here is an example of my last film, Join us for an aesthetic and magical dancetrip through Paris' different art epoques. It's important to think about the audience who you want to get interested into your film. What are your tags? In my case it was a dance, Paris, fine arts and magic. Loglines are mostly used for film catalogs or posters just to get an idea of the film, make it short and interesting as possible. Here's another great and emotional example of the movie of Finding Nemo from Pixar. There are 3.7 trillion fish in the ocean. They are looking for one. This sentence is very powerful because there's no explanation about why you should look for this one fish, you just should watch the film and find out. Now we are coming to the second part of the first folder, the synopsis. The synopsis is a short description of the content of your film. It contains the story, the characters, and the main plot. But don't tell the whole story and spoil your film. Here comes my example for the synopsis. The street artists George Lures Ksenia into his magic world of artistic illusions. Their steps turn into dancing steps, gestures into splashes of paint, their action into art and art into the creation of an own reality. You see there're only two sentences but a lot of pictures to describe the style of the film. You should always imagine the person that is reading this first sentence of your film. You want to keep the attention on your main message. In my case, it was artistic empowerment. Please always keep in mind that this first introduction will stand beside a lot of other films, so keep it short and interesting. Now it's your turn please write the logline and synopsis of your film. Don't forget to create first the tags and your main message. 4. Makingof Video and Photos: For the next part, we directly jump to number 6 of collecting the phototroph you're making off production. We had pre-production, production, and post-production, as there was a lot of visual effects. In case you have some concept art and making off of the costume or something of the previous, the film set how it was built, even the music, I will put that there because sometimes there are prices for different categories, and people love to share also the progress, what you don't see in the film. Here are two examples of film festivals that didn't choose the regular film stills but went for the production photos. Beside the production photos, you should also put a making off video of your film into the folder. I set down a link to the audio library of YouTube where you can find free music for your video. Please also integrate a one-minute chat version of remaking off, because very often you won't get the whole time of the presentation. Also sometimes the film festival will want to just show a little of the production on their social media feed, where it just should be a sneak peek. Here comes the third task for you. Please collect all your photos of your production and select the ones you want to put into your project file system of the making off folder. As well I would like to see a video of your making off production and for your inspiration, I share my one-minute video with you here. 5. Filmposter: What makes a good film stand out? Yes, for promotion to poster, it's very important that this poster presents your film the best. How cool is that to see your poster printed out on a film festival's display. Before you start creating your poster visually, you should ask some questions. What does who, when, and where? Here you can also take the notes you had while creating your log line and synopsis. Think on the taglines you used for your film. The next question is, which movie posters inspire you? Pinterest is a great tool to create the board you want to get inspired for your movie poster. You should also ask yourself why this movie posters inspire you so much. I really like the poster of La La Land because it's very clear. The color combination, the signature pose, even works as a small thump, and there's a lot of space where text can be added afterwards. The choice of the font of your title should be also very clear and reflect the time and the style of your film. The third question is what you want to provoke with your film reflected on the movie poster. It's all about the genre, the style, and the color combination. A very handy tool for this is called Coolors, and it's free for use where you can just play with Coolors Lockett and find out the colors you would like to use for your poster. The next step is to go through your stills of the film and also your production photos because sometimes there might be even more interesting and clear photos that can't be found on the still footage. See it as a progress like concept artists do. Make different versions of your poster, different technique, painted, collaged. Make first sketches of the composition or speed layouts in Photoshop. Whatever comes to your mind to make your film stand out. The more options you have, the better it will become to select the one you like the most. I went for the left one because it's more vibrant, transporting the emotions of the poster even on a small thump. Always keep in mind that this will be the picture that will be promoted on film festivals beside a lot of other films. Make a clear composition, readable, and let it stand out. Now it's your turn. I want you to create your poster of your film, asking you the questions we discussed about using Coolors to create your colors, goes through all your stills and photographs, start with sampling sketches, and make a lot of versions until you nail it down for the final one. 6. Trailer: If I told you about her, the princess without a voice, what would I say? What would be a great film press kit without a trailer that distills your project down into short pieces that tells a bit, but most of all, it makes the public to watch your film? After the introduction, the tension rises to the climax and then resolves. This classic three-act structure may look familiar to you. Many movies use the rising action line to build their story. The difference to the trailer structure is that trailers often start high with a cold open, and sometimes, after resolution, they have the last joke or actions in as a button. Let us look at each act with examples. Trailers often start with a cold open that have a high frequency to attract the viewers attention in the first seconds. Your parents tell me you were born with a unique condition. The most beautiful baby I've ever seen. It can be a pun you're seeing or some action shots. Here we go. It's exciting and amusing and amazingly captivating you directly into the scene because it requires just a little context to understand the situation. I had the craziest dream last night about a girl who has turned into a swan, but her parents fall for the wrong girl, and she kills herself. What's that? Come. Come here little buddy. That's a watch. Watch? The cold open is often followed by some logos, and then we are jumping right into the introduction of the film, the exposition, showing the places and introducing the characters of the film. Anything you want to do in your life you can do. Poetry has original ideas. For the exposition, you could also pose a question to contact the audience directly. Do you know what these people have in common? This is Amelie. The more complex the story is, the more important it is to introduce your audience properly to get the context, otherwise the trailer will be confusing and hard to follow. Create the world of the dream, you bring the subjects into that dream and they flip their secrets. The music of the exposition is driving the story in an anticipation and not drawing too much attention to it. It is the only way I will ever distinguish myself. It is the only way I will ever matter. He saw the world. Where is Nash? Out there looking for his original idea. In ways that no one could imagine. Then we drive into Act 2, the escalation of the film, the conflict of the story. You accidentally assault people with your face. You know what's a black sheep? No. It's like when you're different to everyone else. Sometimes there is also the antagonist presented in the escalation act too. Trevor? He's going to be removed. He's just a kid. He could be the next step in evolution. It's important that you leave open questions in the trailer such as how well the protagonist solves the problem. Why are you so dressed up? I was just doing a little writing. You dress up and put cologne on to write? Because you know how I think better in the shower and I get the positive ions going in there. I had a private detective follow her. What happened? I don't know. The detective agency says the detective is missing. The curiosity of the viewer should awaken the desire to watch the film. We don't want to spoil them. Often the dialogues of the protagonists who doubt the success of the story are cut in to create even more attention towards the end. We're just kind of walk with insufficient oxygen across the bottom of the ocean. We don't know what's out there. Worst idea ever. It's also exciting when you reveal your biggest secret, the monster, only the sound and the emotional close-ups of some main characters. What is there? What is that? What is happening? There's something following us. Towards Act 3, the cuts become faster and faster. The scene, music, and sound design is more dramatic. As a highlight of the trailer, the viewer should be now absolutely thrilled to watch the film. At the peak of the climax, the trailer ends with the insertion of the logo. Now coming to the last part of the trailer, the button. A trailer often ends with a shot funny scene, or an action scene. A cliffhanger to tell you, I know you want to see more, but you have to go to the cinema. We're an unusual couple you know. I don't think that was ever in question. I created a summary as a PDF for you, you can download in the resources. These are all examples of ideas, how you can break down your trailer structure to create as much tension as possible on the film for your viewer. In a shot film, you are of course much freer. As a general rule, only show 10 percent of your whole film in the trailer. Don't tell the whole story, just tease the audience. Show the genre, the main actors, a little bit of emotions, and then stop. For your inspiration, I also added my trailer following the classic trailer structure and now it's your turn. Have fun creating your own trailer, and I'll see you in the next lesson. Now I have a bonus for you. A more narrative trailer from one of my friends, Clement Hoods. This trailer doesn't has a cold open, so you don't have to follow all the time the classic structure. Be creative and create your trailer. What fits best to your film. Let's watch the trailer of The Fantastic Laugh of Bee-boy & flower. This is Peter. He wears a protective suit because he's being followed by killer bees. This is Elsa. She travels the world in search of exotic flowers. To be together, they both have to overcome their fantasies. But what if love itself is also just a fantasy? This trailer also remind me on the trailer of one of my favorite films and here you can see how creative you can go with your editing style. Julian and Sophie were two mischievous kids, who invented an outrageous game. Whoever held the tin box would read the other's dare. The rule was simple. Are you game or not? But as they grew older, the stakes grew higher, the dares became dangerous, until the gamble was more than just a game. It was an obsession. Better than sex, better than love. Sophie! Julian! Better than life itself. 7. Filmstills: Now we are coming to the film stills folder. I had around 12 pictures to send to the festival, and each festival is different, so it will select another picture. Here I show you my most successful pictures. There should be at least one picture showing the action of the film and the protagonists. Also, think for your website which picture you could use to make it as a cover for your film. I experienced portraits of the stills with emotions are very catchy for the film festivals. There was even one festival that chose the more extreme emotion as still, out of all film. When you have some interesting techniques in your films such as VFX and animation, there are a lot of art film festivals out there, so make sure you show your art and what makes your film so special. It's the best advertising for your film when festivals takes your still as their promotion of the festival. Now it's your turn. Please collect all the stills you will find interesting from your film and put it into the film stills folder. You can retouch it and make it clean. I would recommend the size of 2k, 300dpi, and 2-megabyte max. Good luck and see you in the next lesson. 8. Team and Biography: Now we are coming to the biography and team section. This is the folder where you put all the photos and the information about your special team in. We start with a cast. I had two actors and Ksenia Parkhatskaya, she's a very famous swing and jazz dancer. They came some requests of giving interviews, I also put her biography in the folder. For the director, please also put a biography in different languages where you will submit your film as well as the director's notes. What is the motivation of the film and the photos that are profile pictures and can be also some set photos. For the producers I did the same. They also had producers notes about their motivation, their biography, and a headshot, as we also won some special awards for different categories, I also put a folder with special positions for the VFX supervisor, the editor, and the DoP. Then please also make a folder with the whole team where you have clean head shots. I would recommend you making a proper shooting because it always appears more professional to have head shots of your team in the same style for your website or anything you want to present afterwards. Last but not least, please integrate a full list of the whole team so people can see who was working on this film. Now you know what's coming, it's your turn. Please integrate in your folder of the biography and team photos all the points I showed you before. Have fun, and I'll see you in the next lesson. 9. Social Media: One thing I want to give you on the way of your expectation is that you can shape your success by how much you commit yourself to your film. If you don't have anybody to represent you yet, be the best manager that the outside programmer think. With a professional presentation, we absolutely have to invite those filmmakers to our Film festival. Best of all, it costs nothing. Here, I show you how to build up your Internet presence for your film. Let's start with the possibilities of social media. In the following, we go through different social media channels. My tip is to always keep Canva open in your browser and then create your respective cover. Create a playlist on your YouTube channel where you can upload your output of videos to promote your film. Making of and trailer belong here, and everything that was extra to your film to promote it. Often, film festivals want a viewing link, a screener, which they send to the jurors so they can preview and rate your film. Here, I would recommend Vimeo as a platform. I don't have a paid membership there and so I can't upload many videos. However, I would recommend this platform as a preference platform for the screener because you can also protect your film with a password. So you have more control over who can watch your film and the overall effect is also more valuable for filmmakers and on YouTube, where you are often only distracted by advertisements and other videos. When it comes to submitting your film, however, I would prefer the link to your film in your Cloud. There are some film festivals that judge online and if you only have your screening on Vimeo, the film may stop when the judges see film. On your Cloud, there is a higher chance that the programmer will first download your film and then watch it without distraction. Facebook is great for a start if you haven't created your own website yet. You can create a new page on Facebook with a focus on your film. Here you can share events with your fans, premiers, online events when you go live for new items. I like Facebook a lot because there are many film festivals there as well. On FilmFreeway, you can often find their Facebook page in the address detail of the film festival. So you can link their page as your Facebook page and share news with the @ sign as soon as the festival has chosen your film as official selection. When you have upcoming news to share with your fans, you can also go to the publishing tool and set the date when you want your news to be posted. On my art page, I schedule my whole weeks in advance because it's very easy and saves your time, and most of all, it keeps your audience excited about your work. You can also receive ratings from your fans, which you can later add to your press kit and website. Thank your fans and let them be part of your success. Facebook can be a start to build your film community. You will see reviews are a great and motivating thing to stay connected with your audience. Instagram has grown in popularity in the recent years, especially with the young audience. Since Instagram works mainly with photos, you should share your new laurels, short making of's, and news there. I especially like the story feature because it allows you to post personal updates without too much effort. By the way, I get regular discounts from film festivals via Instagram. They write directly to my profile and share their codes with me. For this reason alone, I would definitely recommend that you make a separate page as a filmmaker there. The icons you see in my profile, I created in Adobe Spark app. Here you can create your icons in the app with the desired background and then load the screenshot into the category. Because the button is round, it doesn't matter if you have an Adobe Spark watermark on your free account, you won't see it in the run preview anyway. I've also created a Twitter profile for my film. Honestly, I don't go on Twitter very often, so I've set up an automatic managed system via IFTTT. IFTTT means if this, then that. So when I post Instagram photo with hashtag twitter, it will be automatically posted on Twitter as a native photo, because normally, when you check the button of also share on Twitter and Instagram, there's only a link to Instagram. IFTTT is just a little time-saver when you also want to present it on a platform you are not very often. There, you can register for free and then add the respective function of an auto-post. Whether Twitter is essential for your film, you have to decide where your network is located. My network is more on Facebook and Instagram, so I only share on Twitter with this automatic service. Another great platform I can recommend for your film is IMDb, Internet Movie Database. IMDb is the world's most popular and authoritative source of film, television, and celebrity content. It's really cool when your short film appears on a platform next to really big movies. Some film festivals tag your film when you have won an award from them. In any case, I would recommend you to register there. If you are from the German-speaking area, I recommend Crew United. It is the German IMDb. As it is a film database, you can be found under the function of the film you are looking for. So it is a platform where you can be hired for new film projects because of your great reference there. One notice on this page, you have to be a filmmaker for a feature film to create your project type there. So when you have one of your team members who already created a feature film, please ask them to create the project site. In my case, I'm an independent filmmaker for short films, so I asked my producer to make the site and I got tagged for the other projects also by feature filmmakers. This was a selection of my personal tailored platforms I want to be found with my film pro check. The more you are presented with your film on the Internet, the more likely you are to be found directly on your film when you're Googled. Now we come to the next task for you, build your social media channels with your film on your favorite platforms where you want to be found. Link your channels and make sure you write your right texts. It always takes a while before you appear in Google. Work on marking yourself visible to the outside world in the name of your film. 10. DCP and Screener HD: Now we are coming to one of the most essential parts. The output for your movie and the specification of the screening files. In the resources, you will find an overview of the formats you should export. I also recommend to create another folder in your cloud only for the export of your film. This should be separate from your press kit folder because you don't want to share your movie with public access. It should only allow you to share the link of the desired screening file, with a film festival or confidential persons. One thing I want to say up front is that if you are planning an international tour, you should play out every version I mentioned here, ones with and ones without English subtitles. Now we start with the information of all files you should export. The master is a file that stands above everything else. Your most important file that you should export uncompressed from your original project. Meanwhile, it's no longer a problem to create an Apple ProRes on Windows computers in the most common editing programs like Premiere. The DCP, Digital Cinema Package is a container formats for images, sounds, and data. Since a switch from 35 film to digital projection, it has been the standard format for screenings in cinema. DCP-o-matic simplifies DCP creation many times over. It is open source and financed by donations. I will go through with you step by step with a reduced workflow. Please download and install DCP-o-matic on your computer with the right system. If it's Windows or Mac. You should have your ProRes master file ready too. Important for DCP-o-matic is that your firm has 24 frames per second. The dimensions, flat or scope. You can set this in your editing program. Then we open the software. First, you create a project by clicking on the file and then in the Open dialog window, you enter the name and path of your project. Please make sure that you have enough space on the hard disk where you load it. You add your ProRes master file into the project by clicking at File. The program will now analyze your film, and you will see that a few functions are added to your file. Here you can enter the aspect ratio that corresponds to your movie. Scroll in your preview to check if it fits. Choose your category, if it's a short film or feature or something else. Here's the audio menu where you can edit the audio volume, swap channels, and so on. Here's the button where you can make your DCP. That's it. You get a note, and if everything is okay, your DCP is now rendered by the DCP-o-matic. When your frame rate differs from 24 frames per second, you will get a notice here. For example, the software tells you to switch to SMPTE. Having a working DCP is essential for the success of your film. When you want to be safe and you have problems or less time for preparation of a huge screening, I advise you to use another professional service. Here's my story to tell you why for the US screenings I went with the professional service. I had my film set to 25 frames per second, which is more common in Europe because of the color TV PAL format. Twenty-four frames per second, as well as 30 frames per seconds are more for the NTSC format standard in US. I had already created my DCP that worked correctly in Europe. At the US screenings, there was always an offset and unsynchronicity with the sound. A film festival in LA wanted to have the right file in few days, so I ask a service recommended by the festival that offered me very human price as official selection. Simple DCP wasn't called. That was very easy, I already had my ProRes master stored in the cloud, and so I shared the link with the servers that immediately transferred the video with the right conditions. I finally had the US version and a European DCP version that I was sure would run flawless from my side. This is a very important factor for the revelation of your film. As I have been involved as a jury at film festivals many times, you can see the suspicion when a good film with technical flaws in the constitution distracts from the film. Sometimes it's better to take the easy way for the problems you don't want to have afterwards. My advice is just to go for a professional service concerning your DCP because it's very important. Last but not least, you need a screener in HD to upload it on the online platforms for the process of selection. This file is also the main screening file for a lot of film festivals that don't have professional projectors like in cinema. They've set the MP4 in stereo with HD resolution as a standard. I recommend for short films your file should be under two gigabyte and for feature films under 10 gigabyte. Now it's your turn to export your main master file as Apple ProRes, create your DCP with the service you like, and finally create your screener HD file. Set up your system on your cloud in a different folder than your press kit and bam you go, you're ready with all your screeners. 11. Website: I would definitely advice you to create a website for your film because it's more professional than to be only represented on social media. With your website, you can build up your target group and address yourself directly to them without being subjected to algorithms from other platforms. In my multimedia studies, I've already tested many systems and after all my experiences, I would recommend WordPress. It has most components, I find very important. It's been on the market for a long time, it's on a constant development, there are a lot of plug-ins and tools for it. It's cheap the service is one of the best ever, and no matter what problem I had, there is a live chat that helps you immediately. At the moment, some sites have problems that they don't have the security certificate. If you have your site at wordpress.com, it is automatically included and you don't have to pay extra for it. The best thing is birth is very simple and intuitive. Now I show you how cool and easy it is to create your website with WordPress. Type in your browser wordpress.com, not.org, because.com is easier. Here you have to choose your username and choose a password and register for free. Then we get to here. You can see I have already a lot of pages on WordPress. You just add a site here, give your site an address. First, we want to start with a free site, and now we are in the back-end of your page, and we can open the type of the appearance. There you have the free themes where you can choose your favorite one. When you feel like you want another theme, you just switch to another one, it's very easy. For Paris You Got Me, I chose a theme Canard because I wanted to see signs that looks a bit to be in touch like newspaper. Readability and photos were important for me and that is all in one layout that works on any device. Here I'm choosing my icon for my website that will appear in browser. Each template has some other functions you can check out. On WordPress there are two different types of contributions, how to create pages and blog articles. Pages you should consider as a framework or a skeleton of your website. Blog articles are similar to Facebook post, where you can share news with your fans. If they have subscribed to your WordPress page, they will always receive a message about the publication of your blog article, just like a newsletter they subscribe to. Let's create the first page, the trailer page. Click here in the back-end on Add New, and add a new page to your website. You can use an empty page or what WordPress suggests as a layout where you just fill out the content with your stuff. I always start it with empty pages because you can choose what you want and to insert it into blocks. Here you can choose the blocks of YouTube if you want to create your trailer, for example. Have a look at the complete list there, there are many things. Galleries, contact forms, and much more. Just assign it to the respective page. Please also put texts here so that your pages can be found under your desired terms in Google. Place a featured photo which appears as a preview in the header of your page. It's important that you write a short description of the content as an excerpt of your page. Because it's the first thing that is visible somewhere also on Google. By the way, you can also customize all of this, if you don't want, for example, a picture to appear at the top of every page. I have put together a list in the PDF, which is my suggestion for the structure of your website. These are the pages you should create. When you have worked through this list, we will get to the structure of the menu. These created pages you can now assign to your menu here. Here you can see my menu of Paris You Got Me and how it looks in the back-end. Now you can also change your menus with the live preview in WordPress so you can see it directly what you change. Now we come to the posts. I would share on News if you have won a new prize here was your fans. The best thing is, if you link to the festival, the festival will get a hint by mail, a pingback, if they have created their side also this WordPress. So it's always good to make some free advertisement to the festivals you like. My tip is, be always friendly as possible and leave a reliable professional impression. When you write a post for the very first time, create a new category with news as a main topic. Then you can set this category in your menu. Every time you post something new, be sure to check this box. Then it will be placed under this category on your website in the news tab, I've also made subcategories of prices in the respective position. This way you will have a database with photos and create entries that you can share if you needed to. The widgets are also a great thing. I wanted to keep the site very clean, so I just added a search bar in the menu on the right side. There are also calendar widgets and you can run premiere on screenings in the countdown, are really great. This also the Google translate to where you can translate your page into other languages. On the Footer bar, I have added the social media channels. It's always more elegant when they are further down and don't scream like that. After all, you want people to stay on your site and not immediately disappear in a swamp of the Internet on various other profiles via your social media profile. Build on your side and immerse yourself in the possibilities of WordPress. On my other pages, I have more plug-ins as it is a business profile where it's more possible, but only with these free tools and the possible to map your desired domain, which you might have already bought from another host to WordPress. For my part of parisyougotme.com domain mapping, it was just €17 per year I paid for the great service of WordPress. Have fun creating the website of your film and checkout my roadmap I have put in the resources for you. 12. Logo Visit Card, Datasheet: You should not only prepare yourself digitally for the film festivals, but also make a lasting impression with a professional business card that matches your film. You need this card for the film festivals to position yourself as a filmmaker. On the front side you can set the title or the logo of your film, the website and your logline. On the back, there's place for your names, your position, e-mail and mobile phone, and your social media channels. You can also put your producers, so they can also use this card for going on film festivals. The procedure of this card was similar to the creation of the poster with the help of a mood board. Think about the effect a card should have on the viewer. My card should be clean, professional and have a bit of a vintage flare. Nostalgia and magic were the keywords, so I used an art-tickle like font with metallic antique coloring. Sometimes you already have a film logo anyway, because it was part of the film protection as a motion design and demand. It's a matter of taste and the mix with the things you already have, don't make it too complicated. Simply make a sketch of a font you like and then make variations. Inspiration you can find on 1001freefonts.com, but please note that these fonts are also copyrighted and you must license them according to the information provided there. I also show you our old logo. Before the completion of the film, I had a crowdfunding campaign and I designed a pictogram. I have remained true to the style of art-tickle, although the symbols have been removed from the new logo because I wanted to be cleaner. The readable title should be in the foreground, but after all, this is of course a matter of taste. But often it doesn't have to be that elaborated. You can also make a shortcut with a free online tool. Do you know Logaster? It's quick and dirty. Did you know you can also use Canva for grading your business card. Get used to it and you will see it's very easy. In the press kit folder, you also need a datasheet list as JPEG where you can see the details of the movie. Don't put too much effort in it, it's just for information for the film festivals. There you can see the title or the logo, who was the director, a sentence about the content. If you have a special technique, you can also give a short explanation. In my case, I wanted to emphasize that we had a life action film with visual effect. Then there should be the length of your film, how long your shoot was, the production time, and in which format you have recorded. For my film, I also created a press kit for possible question which I saved as an example in the PDF file in the resources. Then trusted reader will find more information from each, and nice story can be created for possible publication. Just see this as an example how to do it, but you don't have to. It also depends on your film. What insiders from the production do you want to reveal? I often find it exciting and cardio if you get some more personal information about the production. You will see there is a lot of great information and your crew is happy if they are named with stories about the production for the great work. The layout, I also simply created in Canva. It's very easy there, and as I said, it's free of charge. I never used Pro version and still have a lot of amazing tools there. Now it's your turn, the last homework until you are ready to send your film to film festivals. Design your film logo, your business cards, your datasheet, and if possible, also press kit. Have fun writing your stories. 13. Thank you and good bye: Congratulations, you have now reached the end of my course, How to build your Film Festival kit.
