1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: Hi, friends. How are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'm excited about sharing this project with you. This is a drawing and watercolor painting project that I designed, especially for kids. Students do not need to have any drawing or painting experience at all to be successful with this project. I will guide students step by step through all the steps that they need to take. Today, we are going to be creating this cute little Easter bunny, who's surrounded by Easter eggs sitting in a basket. I hope that you have a lot of fun with this project. Let's get started. Let's talk about the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a sheet of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paints and a paintbrush. I'm going to use this size paintbrush, but you can also use a smaller paintbrush, if you like, just to use what you have available to you. You will need a caper bowl with clean water, and you will need a paper towel and a set of oil pastels or crayons. So go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials, and I'll see you back here in the next video. 2. Step 1: Draw a Bunny in an Easter Basket: In this step, we are going to draw our Easter bunny design. So let's get started. So take a look at your piece of paper. We're going to find the middle of our piece of paper. The middle of my piece of paper is right here. This is the center. What we're going to do is we're going to create our basket and eggs down here closer to the bottom, and then our bunny is going to be here at the top. So go ahead and pick up your brown oil pastel or crayon. And if you don't have brown, just choose the color that's the closest to brown. Okay? That might be orange or yellow. All right, what we're going to do first is we're going to start about right here a little bit lower than the center of our sheet of paper, and we're going to make a very wide curved line like that. This is going to be the top of our basket. Now we're going to make two lines. Curve just a little bit underneath the ends of that first line, and then we're going to close up that shape with another line like this. Now let's add some curve lines inside of that shape. And then down here, let's create the basket. Alright? So what we're going to do is we're going to make a curve line like this. Come down, come over, and then come back up and stop About right there. Now let's create a pattern, a weaving pattern right inside here in the center of our basket. So I'm going to make curve lines going across. Not too many. I'm just going to make two. And then we're going to make straight lines coming down like this. If they're not perfectly straight, that's okay. M all the way across. I'll put one right here. Now, let's create some eggs right here at the top of our basket, and we're going to make those eggs different colors. Okay? So you get to choose the colors that you'd like to make your eggs. So I'm just going to make mine all kinds of different colors, and they're going to be an oval shape. So I'm going to start out with green. Then maybe I'll move to orange. And they might be going different ways. Alright. Some might be facing one way, some might be the other way. Some might be larger, some might be smaller. Here's yellow. I'm not sure if that's going to show up on the video, but maybe it will. I'm pressing pretty hard. I think I'm going to try one more purple again. And this purple one is going to be a little bit behind this blue one about right there. Now that we have our eggs, we're going to go ahead and draw our bunny up here. We will come back in just a bit to create some patterns inside of these eggs, okay? But let's focus on making our bunny right here. So I'm going to choose the color brown for my bunny, but you just choose the color that you'd like to choose, okay? You can choose any color. You can choose pink or blue or purple. It's up to you. We're going to make the letter C, but the letter C is going to be upside down. In other words, a letter C is going to start here come around and then end up about right here. We do need to leave a little bit of space at the top for the bunny ears. Okay? So let me show you what I mean. So I'm going to start about right here, come around, and then end up about right here. Now I'm going to make my bunnies ears, and they're a little bit pointy almost to the top of my sheet of paper. I'm not sure if you can see the top, but maybe you can. And then a little bit of detail here. All right. Now, I think I will switch colors and I will move to my black oil pastle and I'm going to make some eyes. You can choose any color for your eyes. You can even choose a different type of an eye. If there's a really neat type of an eye that you like, you can go ahead and use that. Then for my whiskers, I'm going to use black as well, but I'm going to wait because I want to make my nose first. Go to make a little pink nose, little pink triangle nose, and little cheeks. Now that I know where my nose is and my cheeks are, I'm going to move back to that black, make the whiskers. I just like to make a couple of whiskers. I don't like to make a whole lot of whiskers. And then I'm also going to make a little smile. So cute. Alright, so now we have our bunny. We have our eggs and our basket. Let's add some designs to the eggs. So you can add any type of design with any color. You can add poka dots. You can add zigzags. You can add hearts or stars or swirls or wavy lines. It's completely up to you. So I'm just going to start making some different patterns. For my eggs, the space is not that big, so it won't take a whole lot of time to fill up. Just do what you like as far as the patterns go. Alright, friends, I'm finished adding some pattern designs to my eggs. What we're going to do next is make some grass down here at the bottom. So choose your green or any other color that you'd like that's close to green. I'm just going to make some grass that looks like this, some zigzags. And then if you'd like to add something else down here at the very, very bottom, you can do that, as well. You can add more eggs or you can add a bug or you can add some flowers. It's completely up to you. I think I'm just going to leave my grass. You know what? Actually, I've changed my mind. Maybe I'll just add a few little sprigs of grass like this. Okay. But you can add whatever you'd like. If you'd like to add something in the sky, you can go ahead and do that. I think I am going to add a couple of small clouds because I have some space and I want to fill up that space. So maybe just two or three clouds here. I don't have that much space. Maybe one even over here. That's how I like to make clouds. If there's a different way that you'd like to make clouds, go ahead and do that. Alright, friends, when we come back, we will start painting our design. 3. Step 2: Paint the Design: A In this step, we are going to paint our Easter bunny design. So let's get started. So for this step, we're just going to focus on painting the bunny, the eggs, and the basket, okay? In the next step, we will be painting the background, which will be the sky and the grass. Alright? So the first thing that we're going to do is we are going to add one or two drops of water into each of our pans of paint. And what this will do is it will soften our paints just a little. So that they are easier for us to use. So I always encourage my students to take this step because it really does help. Alright, so I'm going to paint my bunny brown. If you want to paint your bunny a different color, you can go ahead and do that. You might want to choose a lighter color, light pink or a light blue. If you'd like a very light color, you add more water to your paint and less paint. And if you like a more vibrant and vivid color, then you would add more paint and less water. Okay. So I'm going to go ahead and make some brown paint. Let me show you how I'm going to do that. I'm going to add a few drops of water into one of my wells. And then to this water, I'm going to add some brown paint, not too much because I want my bunny to be a lighter brown. Oh, that looks just right to me. Alright, I'm going to go ahead and paint my bunny this brown. Alrighty friends, so I'm finished painting my bunny brown. It's a light brown, which I really like. Now what I'm going to do is I'm going to make some more brown paint, and I'm going to paint the basket brown, as well. If there's a different color that you'd like to use for your basket, go ahead and use that color. I'm going to start out with a light brown. So I'm going to go ahead and paint this top part of the basket, a light brown. And do you see this area in here between the eggs? I'm going to go ahead and fill that in with brown, as well. Okay. Now what I'm going to do is I'm going to create a checkerboard effect with this paint. So I'm going to use a lighter brown. Alright, friends, I decided to leave the squares white because I like the way that that looks. What we're going to do now is go back and we're going to paint the details on the bunny rabbit and then also the eggs. So I'm going to use pink to paint the inside of the ears on my bunny and then also the nose and the cheeks. Alright, I think what I'd like to do is I'd like to take off some of that color, some of that paint color on the cheeks. I'd like the cheeks to be a little bit lighter. So there's a trick that I'm going to show you where you can pull up some of that color. You can absorb some of the color off of your piece of paper with your paper towel. Your paint still needs to be wet to do this trick. So you have her over that area that you want to pull the paint up, and then you just touch with your finger, and then it will absorb. The paper towel will absorb that paint and take it right off of your piece of paper. Okay? Alright. Now I'm going to go back in and I'm going to paint these eggs, all kinds of different colors, and you can watch me. Alright, friends, I really like how those eggs turned out. They're nice and bright and colorful. And that's it for this step. In the next step, we are going to be painting our background. 4. Step 3: Paint the Background: In this step, we are going to paint the background. So let's get started. So you get to decide which colors you'd like to use for your sky and your grass. I'm going to choose the colors green for the grass and blue for the sky. I like how that looks. So what we're going to do is we are going to just start painting. Remember, go slowly and carefully so you do your best work. Alright, friends, I'm finished painting my design. I'm really happy with it. I hope that you had a lot of fun with this project. I will see you next time.
