Beyond the Like Button: In this lesson, I will tackle a common misconception. The belief that have on a Large Social Media Following is essential for success. While having a solid presence on social media platforms can certainly contribute to the overall earning potential. It's not the be-all and end-all of success. To illustrate this point, let me share my personal experience since January 2018, I have consistently earn a monthly Spoonflower bonus commission. You might be surprised to learn that I've achieved this with only 351 followers on my Twitter account and 591 followers on my Instagram account. Which shows that having a massive Following, is it necessary to generate income on Spoonflower? Let's dive into some reasons why this myth is misleading. In today's digital world, it's important to focus on quality over quantity when it comes to your audience. A smaller yet highly engaged and loyal following can be far more valuable than an extensive but disinterested one. The days of trying to gain followers overnight, use an inauthentic methods or spammy tactics are long gone. We've moved beyond the 2010s when such practices were prevalent. After all, what's the point of having a high follower count? If your engagement is next to none. Instead, focus on growing your audience organically by consistently producing high-quality content and engaging with your followers, genuinely. Building authentic relationships with your audience and nurturing their loyalty is essential. Doing so will make them more likely to be your cheerleaders and contribute to your success in the long run. Implementing a well-planned marketing strategy can help you reach your target audience and generate sales even without a massive Social Media Following. This can include tactics such as content marketing, search engine optimization, also known as SEO, paid advertising, and strategic partnerships. It's important to remember that your social media presence doesn't solely define success. Numerous entrepreneurs and businesses have achieved their goals by exploring multiple avenues and not relying heavily on social media. At the same time, it's crucial to recognize that social media algorithms are unpredictable. Relying solely on social media for Success is risky. As platform algorithms constantly change, what works today may not work tomorrow. Diversifying your strategy and focusing on other aspects of your business will ensure long-term stability. Marketplaces like Spoonflower can help get your designs noticed through their website traffic and search results. When someone searches for design on Spoonflower, it's about finding the right design, not the number of social media followers you may have. By leveraging Spoonflower, you can focus more on creating designs that customers love while letting the platform do they heavy lifting for you? When you focus on a specific niche, you can create a loyal customer base that's more likely to buy your designs or services. For instance, this designer has found success with her adorable animal designs and patchwork cheater quilts for baby nurseries. Meanwhile, this designer has carved out a niche with her funky hand lettering designs often filled with swearing words. I've also had a blast creating over 200 Bigfoot designs that cater to enthusiast of this being fellow. So what's special interest groups might you find interesting the tailor your offerings to their needs. High-quality designs and services that meet customers needs are critical for success. If your offerings are exceptional. Word of mouth referrals, design likes, and positive reviews can help drive sales. Even if you don't have a significant social media presence. Let's discuss the importance of building relationships with industry influencers, collaborators, and fellow design entrepreneurs. You can unlock new opportunities and grow your business without relying solely on a shotgun approach to social media. By that I mean using a more narrow approach, focusing on a smaller, targeted audience as a Spoonflower designer, making the most of the Spoonflower communities essential. This includes things like participating in the Facebook groups such as Spoonflower squad and engaging with the designer community on the Spoonflower platform itself. One effective way to strengthen these connections is by actively liking and commenting on your fellow Designers works and challenge entries. So don't be discouraged if you don't have a vast Social Media Following. While Social media can undoubtedly influenced your success, it shouldn't be considered the only determining factor focused on building genuine connections, producing quality content, and exploring various avenues for growth. And you'll be on the path for achieving your goals even without a Large Social Media Following 4. My education, I took two years of commercial Art classes at my local community college before computers became our trusted allies. I learned all my digital arts skills on my own. Absolutely not. I needed a job. So with all the confidence in the world, I said Yes, I new Illustrator. Age is Just a Number: The myth that Success is reserved for those who start young is a misconception that can discourage budding creatives and entrepreneurs from pursuing their passions later in life, my own lives Journey is evidenced to the contrary, add 52, I created my first repeating pattern. This milestone, new facet in my ever-evolving artistic journey, not only marked a personal accomplishment, but also underscored my conviction that age is no barrier for exploring new avenues of creativity. While it's true that some individuals achieve success at a young age, there are countless examples, including myself, who found success later in life, proving that it's never too late. The chase your dreams. Starting later in life can be an advantage. Throughout our lives, we collect many experiences, wisdom, and resilience, enabling us to draw from a vast pool of inspiration and ideas which can then be leveraged in our creative pursuits and set us apart in the competitive world of surface pattern design. Take for example, Sue craftsman, a self-taught artist who switched from teaching the cooking during maternity leave. Then the Art at age 58, using unconventional materials like nail polish, her vibrant work has gained worldwide recognition, attesting to the limitless potential of creativity. Her resilience and the richness of our life experiences all played a part in creating her unique style. Communication, project management, problem-solving, digital proficiency, and time management. Skills that age only improves, sharpened with time and experience. These transferable skills can give you an edge in your creative journey, just like they did for Grandma Moses. She began her painting career in her late '70s. Or exceptional storytelling ability, a skill she had developed over many decades, shone through in her paintings and resonated with millions. Financial security can provide a certain level of freedom to pursue your artistic endeavors. But Lack of it should not deter you from chasing your dreams. Numerous artists started with minimal resources, but they're passion and tenacity led them to great heights. One such example is Charles Bukowski, who worked at a post office till his '40s before he got his first novel published. Setting goals, managing expectations, and adaptability are keys to success in any field. Artists Carmen Herrera, who sold her first painting at age 89, is a testament to this. Despite decades obscurity, she never stopped painting, showcasing a clear vision and unwavering dedication. Remember, success isn't about when you start. It's about having the courage to start at all ages, Just a Number. So let's embrace it and that our creativity flow. Many people have found success later in life, like Julia Child and vir Wang, who started their culinary and fashion careers in their late 30s and 40s. Many artists have reinvented themselves are made a significant impact in their 50s, 60s, and beyond. Proving that age is not a barrier to achieving one's dreams. British designer William Morris, born in 18, 34, was initially a writer and poet. It wasn't until his 30s that he pivoted towards textile and wallpaper design. Despite his Late Start, his designs from the 160s are still admired and influential today. His commitment to intricate patterns and high-quality craftsmanship has left an indelible mark on the arts and crafts movement. Lastly, we have Yayoi Kusama, a contemporary artists from Japan who continues to break boundaries in her '90s. This fight or mental health challenges. She uses Art as a therapeutic outlet, creating immersive installations and iconic polka dot patterns. These stories highlight that pursuing your passion has no age limit. They highlight the importance of dedication, hard work, and persistence. So don't look at age as a limitation. Instead, consider it an opportunity, a chance to bring the richness of your life experiences and unique perspectives into your creative journey. Reminding us that age is Just a Number when unlocking your creative potential. So let these stories inspire you to chase your dreams regardless of age 8. Shattering Self-Doubt: Have you ever felt like your Art Isn't Good Enough? Like you're standing in the shadow of other artists, feeling as if you'll never shine as brightly as they do. If so, you're not alone. We've all been there. So if this sounds like you consider this, think of yourself as a diamond in the rough. When a diamond is first bound, it doesn't sparkle or dazzle its raw, unpolished and my look just like another rock, but beneath that rough exterior, There's a gym waiting to be revealed. Just remember every stunning diamonds started out as a rough stone. It's a time pressure and a lot of polishing to unveil its brilliance. Self-doubt is like that layer of rock covering your diamond. This isn't a reflection of poor artistic skills, but an invitation to step out of your comfort zone and expand your creativity. It's like when you're working out at the gym, you don't start by lifting the heaviest weight, right? You start small and gradually as your strength increases, you move on to heavier weights. The same principle applies to our artistic skills. They aren't fixed. They can be developed, refined, and improved. Again, with a growth mindset, every challenge becomes opportunity for growth, pushing us to become better Artists. So the next time you face a setback in your artistic journey and don't let it feed your Self-Doubt. Instead. See it as a stepping stone in your path to growth. Remember every great artists you admire was once a beginner to they reached where they are today through consistent practice and a belief in their ability to improve. So let's embrace this growth mindset together. Let's believe in our potential to grow and improve. Because trust me, with time, patients and effort, you'll be amazed at how far you can go. Now here's a trap that many of us artists fall into. We look at the stunning works of other artists and suddenly our Art seems less impressive, less beautiful. It's like we're looking at their masterpiece through a magnifying glass and our work through the wrong end of a telescope. Bright. But here's the thing. Comparison is not the answer. Remember every artists journey is unique. We all have different starting points, different paths, and different paces. It's like running a race where everyone has a different track. Comparing your track to someone else's isn't going to help you run faster or better, it might just make you lose focus and trip. So instead of comparing your work to others, focus on your progress. Celebrate your achievements. No matter how small Did you try a new technique today? That's a when did you finally finish that piece you've been working on for weeks. Pat yourself on the back. The only person you should compare yourself to is the artist you were yesterday. Are you learning? Are you growing? Are you pushing your boundaries? If the answer is yes, then you're on the right track. So fellow artist, let's focus on our path and our growth. Because in the end, artists not a competition. It's an expression of your unique self. And trust me, there's no comparison for that. Now let's talk about something we often overlook. Mindfulness and self-care. It might not seem immediately connected to overcoming self-doubt, but it is a game changer. As artists, we can sometimes get so caught up in perfecting our craft that we forget to take care of ourselves. We neglect our mind and body leading the stress burnout and increased Self-Doubt. So what do I mean when I say mindfulness? It's about being present in the moment, about focusing on the now, rather than worrying about the past or the future It's about acknowledging your feelings without judgment. Even those feelings of self-doubt. Instead of pushing them aside, acknowledged them, understand them. You'll find that they lose their power over you when you do this. There's this app I recently found called Waking up by Sam Harris. You might want to check that out. And self-care, That's about taking care of your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. It's about recognizing when you need a break and the step back and recharge. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. Taking care of yourself is not selfish. It's necessary. Try incorporating simple self-care habits into your routine. Maybe it's a short walk in the morning, a relaxing cup of tea in the evening, or just a few moments of quiet meditation. Find what works for you and make a part of your day. It's also crucial to maintain a positive outlook. Focus on what you can control, like your effort, your attitude, and your kindness to yourself. Remember, elements will always be out of your control and that's okay, but don't let them discourage you or increase your Self-Doubt. Surround yourself with positivity, supportive friends, inspiring Art, uplifting stories. They can buffer against Self-Doubt and help you stay motivated and confident. These small steps can make a huge difference in your artistic journey. Before we dive in a setting realistic goals, I was hoping you can take a moment and envision your future as an artist. Where do you see yourself in the next five to ten years? What do you hope to achieve as a designer? Having a clear long-term vision is Crucial because it gives you a sense of direction and something to strive for. Now let's talk about how to get there. That big vision might seem intimidating, but here's the secret. It's all about breaking it down into smaller, more achievable goals. Think of your ultimate artistic goal as a mountain. You can reach the summit and one giant leap, right? It takes many small steps, each one bringing you closer to the top. It's these incremental victories that paved the way to success. Maybe it's sketching for 30 min each day or finishing that painting by the end of the month. Perhaps it's learning a new technique or style by practicing it every week. These goals might seem small, but they add. And before you know it, you've made a significant progress toward your big dream. Setting and achieving these smaller goals moves you forward in your artistic journey and builds confidence. Each goal you achieve as a victory, proof that you can do it and are capable. And this can be a powerful antidote to Self-Doubt. So let's start setting goals that are specific, achievable and within your control. Breaking down our big dreams and the smaller possible steps. And let's celebrate each step we take and the goals we achieve. Because each one is a testament to our ability, growth, and potential. Now let's move on to a strategy that might seem obvious, but it's often easier said than done. Consistent practice. The same practice makes perfect. Well, it's especially true for us artists. Artistic skills like any other skills, improve with practice. But here's the thing. It's not just about practicing, it's about practicing consistently. Now I know what you might be thinking. I don't have hours to practice every day. And that's okay. Consistency doesn't mean you have to practice for long hours every day. It doesn't matter how slow you go as long as you don't stop. Remember progress, no matter how small is still progress. And here's another thing about consistent practice. It helps you discover and refine your unique signature style over time. As you explore different techniques, mediums, and subjects, you'll start noticing patterns, preferences, and things that resonate with you. You'll find certain elements that keeps showing up in your work. Specific themes you're drawn to. This is your artistic voice emerging, your signature style taking shape. This style reflects who you are as an artist, as something to be celebrated. It's such a work apart and makes it uniquely yours. And believe me, there's a certain confidence that comes from knowing you have a style that's distinctly yours. So each time you practice, you're not just honing your skills, but also shaping your artistic identity. Every stroke, every color, every design is a piece of the puzzle. That is your unique style. Now, let's talk about a powerful tool in our journey to overcome Self-Doubt. Seeking feedback. Feedback, especially constructive feedback, is like a mirror that shows us what we might not see ourselves It gives us a fresh perspective on our work. Highlights are strains and points out areas where we can improve. I understand that putting your work out there for others to critique, it can be daunting. It makes us vulnerable. And the fear of criticism can fuel our Self-Doubt. But here's the thing. Feedback is not about judging your worth as an artist. It's about helping you grow. When you seek feedback, choose people who understand your artistic journey and respect your work. They could be fellow artist, mentors or even friends and family with a keen eye for Art. And keep in mind that feedback is just an opinion. It's not a fact. Take what resonates with you, learn from it, and let go with a rest. And over time, you'll find that seeking and receiving feedback becomes less scary. It becomes a part of your growth process, a tool that helps you refine your skills and overcome Self-Doubt. So let's embrace feedback. Let's see it as a friend and not a foe, because the insights it brings can be a game changer in your artistic journey. In a world where we're often bombarded with the ideals of what Art should look like. It's easy to doubt our own creative voices. But remember this, your uniqueness is your greatest strength is what sets you apart from every other artists out there. Your unique perspective, individually experiences and unique style or things no one else can replicate. And when you embrace these, your Art becomes a true reflection of you. It becomes original, authentic, and impactful. It's natural to look at other artist's work and compare is natural to feel inspired by their styles. But don't let that lead you to doubt your own work. Learn from others, but always stay true to your unique artistic voice. Embracing your uniqueness also means accepting that not everyone will appreciate your style. And that's okay. Art is subjective. What matters is that you create Art that you love. And that speaks to you. Because when you do that, you'll find that there are people who connect with your Art and appreciate your unique voice. As we wrap up our talk about Self-Doubt, I want to remind you again of our journey is a journey of self-discovery, Growth, and most importantly, courage, overcoming self-doubt isn't about getting rid of these feelings completely. Instead, it's about learning the ride the waves, changing them in the powerful forces for change in personal growth.
