That early passion never faded, and today, I bring my love for artistic storytelling and watercolor magic to students worldwide.

1. Introduction : Hi, I'm a Traska watercolor artist and illustrator. Also, I teach classes online and in person. I'm an artist ambassador for World Watercolor Month, a global movement which happens every July. July is the World Water Card Month and this class was inspired by this beautiful movement. This year, the World Water Car Month movement is turning ten years. To celebrate this beautiful anniversary, I wanted to publish a 31 day challenge where we follow the prompts of this beautiful movement and paint every day. And I hope you're journey. If you're watching this later, you probably will see the entire challenge right in front of you so you can watch more videos, paint more. I'm so excited you're here. Thank you so much for joining. Let's get started. 2. Supplies: So for this challenge, we will be focusing on brush control. So to get familiar with our brushes. And of course, as always, we'll be practicing using the amount of right amount of water and paint in our work painting. So that's the main focus, doesn't have to be perfect, but it's important to practice. So we'll be focusing on painting at least a little bit every day. And if you feel like painting for longer amount of times than these videos, then keep painting. Wonderful. But at least a little bit, if it's a few minutes a day, will add to the overall progress. So for today's class, we'll be using any pins you have. These are all my pins so I can play colors and brushes, I pick all three brushes I usually use. So it's number eight. Number four and number one. I leave a medium and small brush. Also, we need paint palette, water, paper towel, and for paper, I just cut watercolor paper in four, so we ended up with these kind of cards for each day of the challenge. But you can use a sketchbook too if you feel like that's suitable for you. Let's get started. 3. Day 1 - Radiant: H so the first thing will be painting for this challenge is the word radiant. And for this, I thought we can paint a star. So I'm taking this yellow orange color from one of my palettes. And first what we do, we just make a little circle with watery paint. And then I'll just start jacking the paint out. It's a very nice brush control exercise. And of course, it's not about perfection. You can churn paper. And next what I want to add to this radiant star is sun dogs in between. In between each arrays. So, this is what came to my mind when I heard a ratio. 4. Day 2 - Espresso: So second word of a challenge is espresso, and to paint a cup of espresso coffee, we'll use some sepia. And, again, it's a brush control practice. So we'll go freehand without any pencils. And yes, of course, it's not perfect but that's not the point. And then I'll take a little bit of parosiena W sepas ever. A little warmer shade of brown, then sepia, and then add some coffee. This part just a tiny and take some colour off for a full. And the last thing which I want to add, just a little Irad espresso cups. And this is our Espresso board. Okay. Okay. 5. Day 3 - Ripple: So a lot of my artwork is whimsicals and for ribo, which is the next word of a challenge, I wanted to just paint a little frog. So we start with this simple shape of a frog snooze. Then we make an arch for the eye. So this is a Froi. And then I'll take some blue. And the painting of a ripple. Very simple, very fast. And this is it. 6. Day 4 - Fade: Next word in a challenge is fade as day four, and it was such a great opportunity to show how to make a gradient to go from a darker color to a lighter color in watercolor. We'll start with dark blue. Dark, I mean, very thick paint. And to make it fade into lighter color, I'll just add water underneath. And then we'll just turn the paper tone, and then I'll drain my brush in a paper tone and I'll just help it come down gradually fading with movements like this and horizontal shoe this is our dark blue fading into a lighter blue colour to make painting with some interest, I thought we can add some silhouettes underneath. So with a smaller brush, take dark blue and make some kind of horizon and some silhouettes of buildings and tres. Mm hmm. So this is the way I represented with you in this challenge of word fade fading of blue colour. 7. Day 5 - Lock: So it's day five of our challenge and today's word is log. So for this one, pick any color you like. I like blue, and we'll start by painting a keyhole on the log then we'll paint a handle. And here we have to decide what is the shape of the t can be something like this. And again, this is just brushstroke exercises. So do not overcomplicated or stress about it. So just adding some decor to make it more interesting. And this is hard. 8. Day 6 - Hat: The sixth word is head. So what she made me think about was nom heads. So take just some red and paint a huge triangle. Then with a small brush, I'll take some pin gray, and open some yes. As Maybe a year. Little. Not that little. A beard. So this is our hat. Thanks. 9. Day 7 - Melt: So when I read the word melt for this challenge, first, what I thought about was ice cream, but then it made me think about the melted clocks by famous painter Salvador Dali. So let's try to paint a melted clock. Our own version, of course, so I'll start to melted clock shape, add a little. I being on top. And now I'll take some sebo a dot on the middle a long arrow and a short arrow. And next Cel do with some numbers. Of course, it's nothing as good as Deli, but it's not supposed to live. It's just, it's just like fun. So this is our interpretation of a word melt. 10. Day 8 - Tired: Oh so we are in day eight of our challenge and the word is tired. I hope you are not tired, and the association with this word came to me was a slow sleeping on a bridge. So to paint him, we'll we'll take a water osiena and we'll make this circle on the space for his face white. And then we get down for one of the paws and here we have a body. Like sweeping so sweet and another. Am I not? So here I'm leaving some space for the branch. And for the branch, we'll take a smaller brush. A sepiumthicker pint than previous one. This one was very way. So pins very scary. Ossa happen. Branch. Boys is bleeding. It's okay. And of course. I'd like to catch some of this dark paint with brush. So I can wash it in the water and these are supposed to be dark anyway. The ice around the yes. So this is our sleeping, cute slop. 11. Day 9 - Home: We are in day nine of our challenges going fast and so much fun. Today's word is home, and I thought not to paint like ber house, but instead, we can paint a mushroom house. So we'll start with a base. I'm just using Gross iena and very fine lines. And then with a deeper brush, I'll start painting the hat or a mushroom. Once again, this is for developing a confidence in your brush strokes and my brush strokes. So just have fun and move your hand feed. But most importantly, have fun. I might dunk a little water. Now, take a smaller brush. This was number eight. And with smaller brush, I will take blue and mix it with a little bit of this yellow. Pinkno stairs here. So these are short videos, but if you feel like you want to keep painting, just keep painting. And now we need a window. So I'll use the same yellow, and I'll make four dots, one, two, and four. And then with a tip of the brush with the same grim, I'll make someone between around. And of course, it's bleeding, and it's okay. What else I want to do is to add a little darker red on the bottom of the hat. So mix red with some green complimentary colors. And just add a little bit of s. And Rossi and I just add some volume to this mushroom. So this is our mushroom house and day nine of our Jung. 12. Day 10 - Turtle: So we are in day ten, which sounds huge of our challenge. And today, we have to paint a turtle, which is pretty easy subject to paint, and I have some green left here, so add a little bit of blue to it. So I'll start with some general shape on start the hand. So this is more like a turtle sinlet and then the shell rush control here. And then and then the Little tail. I know is a fun part we can start talking raying the shapes inside the shell shape. So we can be healed or we can be just circles. So for this, I'm using just one color. I'm keeping it simple. So um, you don't want to give up first, so you can just, um play every morning on this challenge where we paint interactive work this is our little aro day ten. Yay. 13. Day 11 - Spicy: So today's word is spicy and I couldn't come up with anything more original than just a hot pepper. And these are so easy and fun to paint. So I'll just take a bright red paint, and, well, just make a squiggle. But I wanted more water, so I'll go back and add more water. So we have our pepper shape. And next we need to take our classic green, and if it bleeds, it's even better. I think it bleeds too much for my liking. So I push it a little bit. Go back. So, this looks spicy to me. 14. Day 12 - Rumble: So let's stay 12 of our challenge and the word is rumble. It wasn't easy for me to come up with what you paint for this word. And I um I think we can paint a thunderstorm somewhere far away, and rumble is the sound, which we can hear. So start by painting a little long house. And then let's add margarine some. It is. It's hiding behind. Maybe some fields here. Margarine. So this is a little bit of landscape for our thunder songs. And then I'll take pins gray. I'll hesitating if I want a big brush or small brush. And then I'll just make thunder the clouds the knee clouds, and then brush control. Dan so. Rain and some thunder and hopefully some rumbo. I feel like we need a little more green here to in this house a little bit from the still. So this is our interpretation of rumbo. 15. Day 13 - Cavern: So it's day 13 of our challenge and today's word is covered. So we'll start by painting a little bit of water like a lagoon or sea. So I'm putting so water on the paper, adding some blue to it, and making it a little lighter. A little bit of yellow to make it more fun. And now we can take some browns. So let's start with Rosina. And then we go straight into sepia obvious I do with big brush. And so what I was planning, this is a view from the cavern. So we're sitting in a cavern and that's that's the view. Very free, very cuck. Rocks here. And you can see it will be changing as it dries. You'll feature as many rocks with confident pretty straight brush strokes like this they breed into each other. And Depending on how dry your papers. And you can leave some wet spots. Um, this is life like this. No to perfection, of course. And Oops. What I want j of course is a little suete of of ship. What about? Services are covered. Let see. 16. Day 14 - Stretch: H so they foreseen of our challenge and today's word is stretch, first thing which comes to mind is a cat stretching. Let's try to paint a freehand without any drawings in advance and we'll see if it works out. We start with nice curve of the body like this, and then we come back and make a pop and here we have hand looking up here. I'll keep on. Keep adjusting shape as we go hoping it will look right and then here we'll have the next poll. I think it looks kind of like a cat. And with the tail, of course. And to make the tail fluffy and you just add water around it. The water is so it's so dirty. After it drat, you can add some ices. I don't dry and nose. 17. Day 15 - Dusty: So on day 15, it's almost a half of the 31 day challenge, and today's world is dusty. So I really challenged myself with this one because I wanted to paint a horse. So start with the hunt. Without joining, it can turn not so horsey. So this is a hunt years. And I have. So the horses run, and that's what makes the road dusty. That's what you strength to represent here. So I'm using paints gray for this entire painting. And then I have tail in mint and I'll have a leg. And then one body. It you remember we're just practicing brush struck here. All right. And when I have looked like I've done the rest, I wanted just to dust and taking a giant brush, watering, paper, and edging more pains brray. This was scary, but it turned out to be right. So come somewhere. So this is our dusty, dusty road. 18. Day 16 - Geode: So it's basic ten of our challenge, and today's world is God. Goods are perfect pinks to paint in watercolor because if you get those water blossoms which are usually a trouble, they're perfect for Gods. So what we do, I take the purple because the first which came to my mind was amethyst, and we'll just dab some caker just like most Jaslee semi Danglubt and I'm leaving some white dots in this cluster of brush strokes. Next, what we'll do, we'll take some water and we drag just a tiny bit of this beautiful color. We create a pod up around it, leaving some white dry edge. Next, I'll take a hacker color, and we create another. Round of dark color. So it's usually alter. It's dark and light and dark and light. You can help watercolor or you can just let it do its thing. You see how here it's already bleeding beautifully all by itself. And again, can add some water to get to lighting. Waco is perfect for jot painting. And then dark again. And then water again, and so on until you played enough, and then you have to add a little bit of brown at the edge of your geode. You can put a couple dots here and there, too to make it look more realistic. This is our geode in Wargo. 19. Day 17 - Chair: It's day 17 of our practice and of our challenge. Today's word is the chair or chair. So take some brown. Once again, we're not using any pencil drawings. We'll start painting right away. So start a seed. I want to paint ustic looking chair with some liquors of almo. This is the shape I'm working. And then let's add some lines here. It's looking like a chair. The back legs will go parallel with this one and say mine. Maybe just a tiny bit lower. It's pretty hard to get the proportions right without a pencil drawing, but this is just a practice, so it's okay. And when other works, we go in front. And now it looks like a check. Y. 20. Day 18 - Rigid: Oh Hi. So it's day 18 of our challenge, and today we have a word rigid. And the first thing which came to mind was gemstone. So I think it would be fun to paint crystal. So mixing some blues here and I'll start just some rigid forms. On the triangle, we leave a white line, and then we can paint the bottom part. You can play on the colors here. Then is another facet here? Might be another the one here. Making a tiny fact here. I think this is enough. But god he did work. 21. Day 19 - Perform: Hi, it's the 19th of our challenge, and today we'll be painting the word perform. The first thing which comes to my mind when I think perform is a ballet dancer, we'll be painting a little ballet dancer in her Tutu dress. I'm mixing some magenta, some orange and now start with skirt. Then the top part of the dress, make it a little darker so you can see press. I'm serving a little bit of distinct, so it's lighter. So we have a dress, and I'll take red ochre for skin tone. So I have one leg and second cap the arms going up. And now we'll take some sepia and we'll pick her. And with pink will add shoes. And this is our ballerina and that's I need to close. 22. Day 20 - Kitchen: Hi, it's day 20 of our challenge. Can you believe it? It's unbelievable how fast it goes when we're having fun. And today we'll be painting a kitchen. So start with line for the counter. And then to represent the kitchen, we'll just paint a couple objects which we can usually find in the kitchen. So it could be some drawers here. And then let's have a red teapot. Or coffee pot. Let's top. It's coffee pot. Of course, I'm smudging a little bit. Be more careful than me. Man like this. And what eels can I have? I have a bowl. And blue roll. And some lemons. Nice. And what else can I have? You may be a little tall, hangry. Oh, no, here. Yeah, that's it. One more lemon which fell out of a bowl. So this is our kitchen. 23. Day 21 - Street Food: Hi. Today's date 21 of our challenge, and the word of the day is street food. So what I want to paint is a prattl. I'll take a beanbush, fill it with paint and water, and I'll try to make it in one smooth move. One, 23. Well, I counted till three, but it was one. So this is our pretzel, and we can add some crumbs here. And here. And it's still very wet. But when it dries, you can add some dots or salt to to the pretzel itself. All right. I took some sepia and I'm trying to do it well still, but I think it's cute. So this is a street food I chose to paint today a pentel. 24. Day 22- Jacket: Oh Hi, today is day 22 of our challenge. I'm so glad you are still here and let's paint a jacket today because that's the word of the day. So we've been into pirates and ships in our house and because I have a toddler. And I decided to paint some vintage jacket, which looks like a captain jacket. So take a small brush, and I'll mostly outline it so it doesn't bleed too much. So I'll start with color. Let's see if I can. So again, no pencil lines, just straight into the paper with the page. Like this. I sweet medium branch. Oops. And then I'll take orange along and I'll add some fun details with a small brush. And I feel like I need to heal it in sand to taste a little. So this is O jacket Ill station for day 22. 25. Day 23 - Group: Oh Hi, so it's day 23 of our challenge and today's world is actually a very easy one. It's group, it could be a group of anything, group of flowers, group of objects, group of animals. I decided we can paint a group of snails, like garden snails because some you're keeping it whimsy color. So I'm taking some yellow green and For the second one, I use ro simon over a little met of orange. So I want them kind of to look similar, but still to be different colors to keep it fun. And for the third one, let's use some magenta into the same mixture. So painting this kind of spirals is a great great exercise, job. So the KepkarOb and Let's stir magenta magenta without mixing it with anything. So here we are a group of colorful snails. Why not? And 26. Day 24 - Avocado: Hi. So it's day 24 of our challenge, and today we're painting avocado, and it's a pretty easy subject to paint, but there are some secrets to keep in mind. So we'll start with a pet. I'm taking some ro sienna and just painting a circle. Let's absorb excess of this paint just by washing the brush and drying it in paper town. So the paint goes back in the brush. Then I'll take some sepia and add a little bit of shadow che circle it shows us the volume of the peat next, we'll paint avocado shape with a light green, and I'm using sap green from this set. Let's make it a little yellower by adding some of this mixture we had before in it. So here's a secret we need to remember. You need to if you're painting fast like I do, you need to leave some white space, dry space around the pit and then you can get into painting because otherwise, this brown on the bleed into green. And then we just repaint the avocado itself with a big brush. So you see this white dry spot around the pit. And next we need you to take a very thick green paint. So we take a small brush, not too much water. So we can take it straight from pen. My toll it is wet. So I'll just undra a brush in a paper towel and I'll take a pint straight from there. And then we'll make a very thin line around. And this time it's okay if it bleeds a little bit. I think. So this is on Avocado for day 24. 27. Day 25 - Howl: Hi. It's day 25 of our challenge, and today's word is how. And I thought I can paint a silhouette of a wolf hauling at the moon. So let's try it again with no pencil. So it can get tricky, but hopefully we can do it. So I'll start with the wolf himself. Were down. A good pole. And now let's add more to his body. A little too much. So we should make a pole longer. I think it's pretty close for a freehand. And now let's take some yellow paint moon. And here we can add some branches. So this is our wolf or some kind of animal howling at the moon for the white how 28. Day 26 - Sea: We are in day 26 of our 31 day challenge for really getting close to the finish line. So it's very exciting. And today's world is C. So S could be painted in so many ways, but I want to keep it simple, so paint a little bit of sand with just o sienna. Big crush. Needing some white spots. And next I'll take some bright blue. And I'll paint the sing itself. In light so it doesn't touch this yellow. And then with a smaller brush, I'll take some coupled blue bright but together well so. That's ice. This paper tolls make so much noise. So, now Hicks' whiz. Well, I'll help him a little bit to go the ways I want. And then I'll take some pinks gray and download some birds. Very simple. This is R C Illustration for J 26. 29. Day 27 - Drift: Oh Hi. It's day 27 of our challenge, and today's world is drift. And the first thing which comes to my mind is drift wood, which is a wood which ended up in a water at the sea or ocean and became all smooth and interesting. So I'll just take some very watery sepia, big brush, and I'll paint a drift piece of wood like this. Well so wet I a warmer shade of rosena And now I'll take a kicker paint with small brush. And I'll add some. Oh, it's a very very wet. Darker details check. So we could have wait, but we don't want to, right? Wow. I just very wavy lines with a dark step. Next I want to add a little bit of blue and chill a drop of forget. And show a little bit of water here. Oh, please tumble. I. So this is my interpretation of a word drift as a piece of drift put in a wire. And to make it fun, we can add a little birdie here. Oh int. 30. Day 28 - Weave: Oh Hi, we're on day 28 of our 31 day challenge, and today's world is weave. So what came to my mind was weaving flower crumbs. So, what we'll do, we'll paint a flower crown. And we'll start the middle of the flower. I just taking some orange with a small brush and putting some dots in it. And then with a medium brush, I'll take some magenta. And it's watering. So just make petals. And I think that yellow should bleed into the petals. And then I'll take some green and we'll show the stem. Now we can paint the next flower. I took some red. One petal. Petals. Midas sometime to keep it in a crown shape. Maybe my middle of a flower here. Some blue flour. Make some pink. Small flowers. Just shapes. So bloom here. Then I'll take more bee and keep eating stems which are weaving between them and more leaves. And now I want to add hair to show it's a girl. So just fell this with osiana then I'll add some waves of osiana here. And with, um with red ochre, I'll show a shoulder. Thank you. Maybe some blue dress. Why not? So this is the flower crown for our board with on day 28. 31. Day 29 - Submerge: H Hi. We're in day 29 of our challenge. My paper is getting worn here, but today's word is submerge. And for that word, I was thinking about mermaid who jumps in the water and submerges and we can just see the end of a tail. So let's paint that. We'll use some seal. Color with a little bit of violet. Gives us a beautiful blue. And we'll start with the medium brush, and we pin the tail. Just the end of. Caravan will take a big brush. We'll add brush drops like this. So it is submerged. Now we can add darker color. And maybe some splashes. So theses J 29 and word submerge in what. 32. Day 30 - Ornate: Hi, our challenges are almost over today's day 30 off it 31 day challenge, and it's a little bit sad, but it's amazing but we got this far and today's word is ornate. And I was thinking we can just paint as ornate frame, which I love painting, so I took you can take any color you want. I took just dark th classic thin and did a dot. And the n an oval. And then here we can have. Both. And another dog. Then we'll f and start dating some ornate elements. Whatever you feel. And in the frame itself, we can add a shuett on a bird. In. Si waiting to the shape until I'm happy. So this is our word ornate in Watercolor. M 33. Day 31 - Tower: Oh Congratulations. This is the last day of our challenge. Thank you so much for getting this far with me. And today's word is tower. So for this word, I thought we can paint a chess piece, the tower one, and we can see I want to end some branches or flowers around it. So I'll take a pins gray and I'll start at the top, which looks like a tower top. Me this. Chess pieces are great to practice Bastrop because they have to be symmetrical.
