You’ll learn how to find enjoyment in your painting experience as you relax and find the things you like about your pieces. And although we aren’t adding lots of layers and details to these florals, they will have depth from the 1-layer techniques we will utilize.

We’ll start with a series of practice exercises to practice the fundamentals combined with self-care strategies. You’ll practice:

Glazing techniques for florals
How to use wet-on-wet for florals
How to use various color values to create florals that have appeal

For your final project, you’ll apply everything we’ve practiced into 3 one-layer floral compositions. The main steps in your project are:

How to glaze loose details on watercolor lilacs
How to use color value to create dynamic watercolor lilies
How to use wet-on-wet techniques to create shadows and texture on watercolor orchids

In your final project, I will be looking for the following things:

Completion of the project. I will not be looking for perfection or you painting in a certain way. That is not the point of this class
I want to hear how you were able to be mindful and present during the process and how that experience was for you. Tell me your story!

I chose this project for the following reasons:

Loose florals help you relax and loosen up
Practicing the relaxation strategies will help loosen up your work
Practicing several simple painting projects will build your confidence as an artist

Materials you will need:

I have provided 3 reference photos below for you to use if you would like. It will help with placement and your overall compositions.

Watercolor paint (either tubes or a ready-made palette)
Watercolor paper (either cotton or pulp)
2 water jars
Large and small round paint brushes (I use round brushes in sizes #2, #8, and #12 but use whatever you have)
Paper towel for dabbing
Reference book or photos

I encourage you to complete the 3 final pieces and post your progress to document your journey taking this class.
