Hello, I'm Irina Trzaskos, a watercolor artist, illustrator, and educator passionate about capturing whimsy, beauty, and storytelling through vibrant, dreamy paintings. Originally from Moldova, a small and beautiful country in Eastern Europe, I now call Coventry, Connecticut home.

I've been painting and drawing since I can remember--so much so that as a child, I often found myself in trouble for sketching on anything I could find, from books and photo albums to furniture! That early passion never faded, and today, I bring my love for artistic storytelling and watercolor magic to students worldwide.

On Skillshare, I am teaching watercolor techniques that help artists of all levels create captivating illustrations, dreamy landscapes, and enchanting compositions infused with ... See full profile

1. Introduction: Hi, Amira Dresco watercolor artist and illustrator. Every year around holidays, I grading class. And today, I invite you to paint a Christmas dove with me. If you're new on miss channel, thank you for joining. Press all button. Let's get started. 2. Supplies: For today's class we'll need the following supplies. We'll need the watercolor paint, watercolor paper, water, paint palette, medium watercolor brush, number four or six. The small watercolor brush, this is number one, pencil, paper towel, and then eraser. And that's it, let's get started. 3. Colors: So for our painting, I'll be using following colours naples yellow, magenta. Cadmium orange, Cadmium redos yellow. Green. A little bit of extramoT. And that's it. Let's get started. 4. Painting the Dove: So first thing what we need to do is to transfer of drawing template from the project section of the class, print it or just transfer it from laptop right into watercolor paper or just draw it by hand. Whichever you want to do. And the next, I'll take some silk color, and I'll mix it with a little bit of rosena so it's not as bright. And a tiny drop of cadmium orange. And next thing, what I want to do is outline a bird. Us over with pencil lines. Let's hope I have enough of this mix. And you can size other colors if you want. This is just a I picked for this. Nice. So while this is drying, let's paint our branch. So I took some rosy yellow. And next, I'll take some naples yellow. Make some tilt to it. And we get with some green. I want a little darker shade on some parts, so I might just steel. We still what? And then let's take some naples yellow, and add it straight in here and see what happens. And picking up some color. To pick a color, you just have to wash your brush, write in a paper towel and then left some color. All right, this leaf has too much tell. Let's add some yellow to it to make it green. And next let's take some naples yellow. And, um just to have water first. Well, it could be like water yellow like I did. But let's paint a few berries, and then I'll take cadmium ad and we'll add it in there. Alright, and we yellow. Like that. And let's make let's paint a few more berries. We start to yell, and then we add some recht. And when it dries, if you feel it's not red enough, you can always add more that. Nice. So next, I'll keep working on a bird. So I'll take some tea. Mix it to some ultramarine blue. And I want to add some fog almonds in here. And some branches on a tail. H Like this. Now, let's let it dry a little bit, and then we'll start printing more furs and bridges. 5. Adding Flowers: Alright. Now, when bird is a little bit drier, let's start painting some pancetias. So I'm taking roiena mixing it with a little bit of maples yellow because I want to give my paint my color palette pretty warm. Then let's paint. Three of dot. Next, let's take some cadmium orange and a little bit of magenta change a little bit more. And start being the carbonsidis. One, two, three, one, two, three. And it's okay if yellow bleeds. It's even better if it does. One, two. And you can leave some white. Next one, I want to paint on this wing. So we start with the middle. And then we paint with very watery watercolor, some of the pagos. So pansies have more vana more petals these. So keep edging some. Very easy, very painterly, very loose. Magenta and Cadena orange. So pretty much what we are doing, we're filling this shape of a bird with flowers, and then next will be ad branches, Berries. So we still have some of this blue. We can use it for some more branches. O Nice. So next let's take some classic green and mix it with our yellow and ros yellow. Then we can paint them. Oh, a branch, a Christmas tree or a pine. Orever we have some space. And you can play and add what you want it. Uh and some green arp and sit in middle. Now, let's change a shade of green a little bit by mixing it with a side tell. And let's paint some holly leaves. Maybe a few here. All right. Our bird is going go pretty covered in all kind of greenery. And now let's add some berries. I see. 6. Finishing Touches: So I'm using the same mix I saw for point Stives and just making a circle and leaving a white dot on the side of it. And again. So whatever you feel like in a bear virtue. Now, let's feel this space. So be just some loose. Need some leaves. And also, I feel like we need some branches. So let's take some rosiana and add a few branches. You can use a small brush for this. Details here. I point sitio. I'm switching to small brush. So a few details on the middle here to darken it up a little. And I don't know if we need more branches. I think this is. Getting pretty full. And the last thing which I want to add is more a volume to the tail because it looks a little short proportion wise and it will make it more interesting too. So let's take some uh classic green. And mix it with a little bit of tell. And it turns it into this forest green shade. And here we can just add some branches with leaves which are repeating the shape of these leaves. And I'm keeping it dry and loose. A little too much too. Let's mix more green. Oh, let's have few blueberries. Like and juniper. Alva leaves are different, but it's okay. And for the work, let's add few more branches. And a couple splashes. So clean. All right. Is a bigger brush for the splashes. That's better. And this is our Christmas dove. Thank you for painting with me. 7. Happy Holidays!: Thank you so much for joining me in this class. I hope you had a chance to paint with me. If you like the class, please leave a review and the project to a project section of the class. I can't wait to see what you create.
