About This Class

Are you anxious? Art has a proven therapeutic effect and as I am dedicated to mental health and self development I brought you a 15 minute exercise that will help you to relax and to reframe your anxiety to gratitude and a beautiful abstract piece of art.

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?

The class is for anyone who would love to bring some mindfulness to their art practice, anyone who is having anxiety or frustration or simply a bad day and would love to flip the coin quickly:)

Warning: the class is not replacing professional help when it comes to mental health issues. Please, if you have serious problems, look for professional help!

REQUIREMENTS:

- No skill level is required, no previous art practice.

The class is done in the Procreate Digital Illustration App, so it is recommended to have an iPad with Procreate.

The exercise can be done with traditional media, but you need to adjust the steps for yourself - or follow the next steps:

Recommended steps for traditional media: Draw the scribble, cut out the shapes, rearrange them and glue the together onto another piece of paper, choose a nice color and paint over the shapes to create the abstract painting effect!

By the end of the exercise, you will feel better, get a new perspective and have a beautiful abstract piece of art.

I can't wait to do this with you! Let's just get started!

1. Introduction: Hey, I'm dedicated to mental health and personal development, and art has a therapeutic effect. And I just thought that I would bring you an exercise that will help you if you are feeling anxious, and it will help you to reframe your situation and you know to show you uh, the colorful side of life, and that you can always just reframe what is happening to a positive version. And it is not always easy, but this exercise will definitely make it fun. So I'm so much looking forward to seeing in the class. And if you need any info about me, I'm the art moor and check out my page for more. So let's just get started. 2. Scribble Your Anxiety: Okay, so welcome to the 15 minute art therapy today. We are going to create a beautiful abstract piece like this one. And basically, we are going to reframe our anxiety into shapes and colors and then just have fun with it. And this exercise is really good if you are just feeling that tension in your body and you just feel lost or you don't really know what to do, but you feel that you need to know somehow put out what's inside you and art is so amazing to do that. So the first step we are going to take is go to the gallery, open Procreate, create a new screen sized canvas. Now, you can actually do this exercise with any other medium, but as most of my audience is actually using Procreate, we are going to do this with Procreate, but you can just adjust the steps for any medium as you wish. The first thing we are going to do is to select a pencil brush. You can just go to the sketching brushes and procreate, choose the six B pencil or whatever actually that you prefer, choose black and now put your anxiety into a scribble. So what I'm going to do is to, you know, think about my frustration and do this and do it as much as you want, as you feel that your frustration is. I will just work with Discribble, but you can do, like, more of them as well, and as you really feel, but I just want to show you the process, okay? So the next step is going to be actually, just taking a moment to look at our anxiety, and we are going to make something beautiful out of it, because everything that happens to us is kind of serving us, even if it is a negative thing, it is there to show us something. So I'm going to lower the opacity of this scribble, create a new layer below, and choose a color. And I will go with a dark purple, keep the six bit pencil, and just spend some time finding simple shapes. This is going to be meditative, so I might, you know, speed up the process, but you can just stop the video and take your time to, you know, put on some nice music and to just find some cool shapes within that scribble. And you can just think about the things that happen to you or just empty your mind and just let, you know, thoughts pass through you. Okay. Okay. And when you are done, it kind of looks like, you know, a broken mirror or glass. And yes, this is how you feel now with anxiety. You just don't know where to go forward, right? I will turn off the anxiety and just look at the pieces that are left. Okay, so let's move on to the next video where we are going to reframe these pieces to create something beautiful. 3. Reframing and Gratitude : Alright. So let's just continue to the reframing phase where we have these pieces, our broken feelings, and let's just do something really fun. So let's choose four colors that make us happy. You will find the color palette in the resources, but totally feel free to choose whatever colors that you like. As a brush, I'm going to use the syrup from inking. But again, you are totally free to use whatever solid brush that can fill up shapes. You can use my brush set, and I love to use the texture shaper from there. But now I'm going with procreate brushes that are in default in procreate. And yeah, so syrup, I will choose the first color. I will lower the opacity of this layer and create another layer. And what I'm going to do is to spend some time filling up these shapes with these colors and start to think about more positive things, actually, if you are using the colors that are making you happy and now you are not emptying your vein nor thinking about bad stuff, this will just is already what's happening. Okay? So listen to the music and have some fun. Mm All right. After you are done with filling in the shapes, what I want from you now is to create a new layer and choose each color and create some circles under each other. Choose the sketching pencil or whatever pencil that you can write with, choose black. And now we are going to have some gratitude and find four things that you are grateful for today. So I am grateful for the sun because it is shining today. I'm grateful for music because it really makes me happy, and I'm grateful for my family and my strength Okay. So now we can see how many things we can be grateful for and see you in the next video where we are going to create the abstract piece from this one. 4. The Abstract Painting: Okay. Cool. Let's just start creating our amazing abstract piece. I will turn off the gratitude layer and go back to this Shapi layer. And actually, I will turn off the sketching layer because we don't need that anymore. So what I'm going to do is to go to the freehand selection, go to the selection tool and choose free hand, and we are going to put the pieces together. So what I'm going to do is to select one piece and bring it closer. And we want to create basically a blob of these colors. Whatever way you can create something meaningful. So it can be, I don't know, a shape, heart shape or whatever shape you just feel like creating. They can overlap. You have freedom to do it however you like, and spend some time putting the pieces together all these beautiful colors that you have chosen for yourself today that are now pieces of your gratitude and not your anxiety, and they are here for you. Always. I will just somehow put it here. You can have empty spaces as well. You don't need to be strict with this. I will just fill in. You can also rotate these pieces. Oh. Eight. I'll put it here. Try to fill it as much as I can. It kind of starts to look like hardship. Oops. And you can even make them bigger if you wish to fill more spaces. But the main thing here is that you are bringing things together so that you are not that in chaos. Okay. This is a weird shape and I love it. I will place it to the middle and I will make the background black. And what I'm going to do is to go to the smudge tool and choose from the painting brushes the dry brush. This looks really cool with this brush, but you can experiment with other brushes as well. So now, what I'm going to do is to is to smudge the colors and create a beautiful shape from it as you wish, as it looks good to you, and I think this is like, you know, those pieces were so I can just see a part of it here. That is so limited, okay? And you can just think about everything is, you know, floating, and it can be beautiful. All these things can be beautiful. And I think it looks amazing. And can you just compare this from this? I mean, We had This. And now we have this color. Okay? This colorful thing. You can have a white background, as well. I just love more the black one, but you are totally free to have a white one. Oh, my God. This looks good on white one, as well. But I will go back to my black background. It is more mystical and I love it. Alright, make sure to post your little abstract painting to the project gallery, and I can't wait to see how it turned out for you. Okay, let's just wrap it up in the last video. 5. Final Thoughts: Okay, I hope that you enjoyed this class and that now you are feeling better, and you have the colors and the gratitude that is actually your life and not just those, you know, broken pieces. And I can't wait to see what you create and don't forget to post them into the project gallery. I'm so grateful that you have spent these 15 minutes with me and stay tuned for more. Happy creating.
