1. Introduction: Do you know what makes a
good digital illustration? Great. Well, getting rid
of that digital look. It is a common practice to
shade with gradients and small gradations to adapt to digital art works which works. But how about getting
that real feel? You know what I
mean? Hello guys. My name is Alexandra K, the Art. I'm an artist illustrator, online educator, and a
professional art teacher. And in this class, I'm going
to show you how to get that real feel by shading
and creating textures. Pattern brushes in procreate, as I'm obsessed with
creating procreate brushes, obviously we are going to create tons of pattern
brushes in this class. First of all because it is fun. Secondly, procreate comes with a limited number of pattern
brushes and textures. And learning how
to create your own will open the gates to
endless possibilities. We will start by learning about textures and some
shading principles. Then we will explore the
types of pattern brushes, and we are going to create
brushes for those types. And then we are going
to shade a fish, and then move to creating our custom pattern
brushes to these types. Then we are going to talk about colors and patterns
and how they work all together and test our brushes
and our new knowledge and discoveries on a playground of eight illustrations of
food and food packaging, the class project will be to choose one illustration
from this sheet. Make it your own,
make it detailed and create a full
illustration from it using the brushes and the
knowledge that we get from this class and why
food, maybe I'm hungry. It is what it is. By
the end of this class, you will have 300 million
pattern brushes in procreate and you will have
the skill set to create more. You will have finished
illustration. You will have eight
small illustrations. You will know how to
utilize your brushes when creating shadows and textures in your
future artworks. You know to get that real feel. I'm super excited
to have you here, so let's just get started.
2. About The Class: Welcome to the class, I'm super
excited to have you here. In this video, we
are going to talk about the class structure, the class resources,
and the class project. Now the class is divided
into two main parts. The first part is going to
be a little bit demanding. It will require patience
and endurance from you. So now I would love to encourage you to stick with that part, because you will really
have the resources for your own or for
yourself by the end of it, Okay, So just keep
doing the brushes. You will learn so
much, trust me. But don't worry it
will be theoretical, but it will be also fun. In this part, we're going
to learn about textures, shading principles,
types of brushes. We are going to create a
stem brush, a line brush, three types of texture brushes, and then try them out
on trading a fish. And then we are going
to move on to creating our custom brushes from handmade things and
hand drown things. And it will be really fun and it will open so
many doors for you. The second part of this class, you will get this drawing sheet. These are my drawings, and you are free to change them. You can redraw them, you can remove objects from
there and put something back. This is going to
be our playground where we are going to test our brushes and see what
works and what doesn't, okay? This class is not
built on perfection. We are going to do
some ugly stuff. And don't worry, because
we are going to combine the good stuff in the class project at the
end of the class, okay? The philosophy behind this
class is really that I want to encourage you to experiment and explore
the possibilities. Because experiment
and exploration is inevitable for finding
the joy in the process. In the point is on
the process, okay? Not on the end result. You don't need to
reinvent the wheel. What I want from you
is to trust yourself. Your own way is good enough and you can bring
the best out of it. There are so many
other benefits to creating your own
procreate brushes. One is that your art will
become more personal. All my illustrations are done with the brushes
that I have created. And also the creation process is more fun when creating
your own brushes. I just feel like an alchemist
when I'm doing this. This class comes with
amazing resources. So we are going to work through worksheets that I have
prepared for you. You can find them
in the resources. It is good if you use them, but they are not like necessary. And you can just
watch the videos and like draw on your own. You are going to get my personal illustration brush set and you are free to use
them and I'm going to use them during the
illustration process. Okay, and then you will get also the brush set that I
create during this class for reference or if you are really a beginner
and you don't have the nerves to
create the branches or you get stuck and it
doesn't look like mine, you can just use mine in
the illustration part. Okay. You will also get
this sketch sheet and also my color palette
that I'm going to use throughout
the entire class. Regarding the class project, you will get this pre
draw sheet, right? We are going to
experiment on it. And for the class
project, as a final, final class project, we are going to choose one
object from it. Work it out in detail and apply all the textures,
color combinations, patterns that worked for
us in the playground part, and create a finished
illustration from that. Okay. So you will have a final artwork at the end that you have
worked on on your own. I would love to
encourage you right now to build up
your class project. So when you finish the playground part and fill in these little
illustrations, put them into the
project gallery. And then add your finished
artwork as well to it. So it sounds super fun, right? I'm so excited to get
started, and I hope you are. As well as a first
step, grab your ipad, download your resources, and then see you in
the next lesson.
3. Shading With Texture: All right, welcome
to the first lesson. In this lesson, we
are going to talk about shading with texture. We are going to define
what texture is and what is its
coloration to patterns. Let's just start with
defining what texture is. I will call Google
to my help so that I can read it to you and you
can see some examples. The texture is the
feel and appearance or consistency of a
surface or substance. The definition I like is
it's the visual, tactile, surface characteristics
and appearance of something as we are now
in a visual art thing. Texture means visually for us, these kinds of patterns, actually the way I love to
call it is that they are patterns organically appearing
in the world or in nature. Can you see that? It
shows us these things. For example, clouds. They are repeating on the sky. They can be a texture or
the ground is correct. Ground that can be a texture. Or tiles, or bricks even. Okay? Or the fur
of some animals. They are basically
repeat patterns that come from the nature. All right. These can be
called a texture, okay. This is the connection of texture and patterns
that they are repeated grains or blocks of
shapes that are repeating, and they give us the
feel of that surface. Even paper has texture. When we are in the
traditional media, we paint on paper, we already have texture, Okay. The surface of the paper
gives us a texture. Our artworks are already
like, texturized, even on canvas, we have
the canvas texture, okay, that is missing
from digital. When we are shading in digital, we have this plan
gradient or gradation. Let me just show you the
difference between the two of the plan digital gradation or gradient and a
texturized one. This is one thing
beginners can do to start using
textures when they are shading because that will give that real feel to the
artworks immediately. You can do this with me. If
you have this worksheet, I will choose this first shape. It is alpha locked
already for me. I will choose white. And maybe the painting brush that comes to
procreate the round brush, I will just make it bigger. I will just make it white. Now I will choose a
darker gray and just fill it to 75% approximately. I will go darker again, let a little bit
even darker again, and I will choose
black to the bottom. Now I will go to adjustments. And gosh, blurring. I have a nice smooth
gradation here, It can create a really
nice fred effect and can add P to our artwork, but it will feel like this. Very digital. Okay, In this one I am going to
just fill it with white. I will choose my shady signature shade
brush that I have created. Here I will show you its shape. It is working in
this greenish shape. We will talk about
the settings and shapes and et cetera
later in the class. Let me just show
you what it can do. I will just tilt
this a little bit. I will lower its capacity to approximately 40% I
will make it bigger. I will just try to create
a smooth gradation. It immediately adds this grain
into it. Can you see that? I will go darker. Even darker and even darker. Okay. Wow. Can you see how cool
does this look like? This is incredible. Can you see the difference? This is a more real feel. Okay, This is the trick
that you can apply to get more realistic and better
digital illustrations to shade with texture. Now, in this class,
we are not going to create brushes with
smooth grains. We are going to work a
little bit more with artificial patterns that we
create because that is fun, it's more of a thing to explore. But now, for example, you can see that
you can look for texture brushes to shade with to create this
real feel effect. We are going for a little bit of a different look in this class. We are going to talk about
different patterns later. Now you know that in digital, the smooth gradation or
gradients are good for shading, but they make your
art look digital. Now you know also that
texture is basically repeat patterns and that
that appear in nature. Yeah. See you in the
next video where we are going to talk a little bit
about shading principles.
4. Shading Principles : In this video, we
are going to talk about some shading principles. What we need to take a
look at is this sphere. As you can see, it
has been shaded with that shader brush that
I have just shown you. Basically, we have a light
source and the light hitting the sphere and there
we will have the highlight. The main color of the
sphere is the mid tone. Then it goes to the shadow. To the shadow, we part the, we have a drop shadow
where basically the light is blocked
by this shape. It is reflecting on
the surface zone. The surface reflects back to the object and we will
have a reflection. Now this is done with
smooth gradation here. As you can see, it creates a
really cool three D effect. But in illustration,
we don't necessarily want to have a completely
rendered object. Here is the value scale. It is a smooth gradation going
from one color to another, or the one intensity
from white to black. Now we can shade with shapes. One of the basic
techniques for shading, even in traditional media
or traditional drawing, is to define the shapes of
the shadows or these areas. The shapes of these areas. Then you can create a smooth
gradations more easily, or you can use these shapes to fill in
with different things. For example, patterns, in
this case of the clowns. And create interesting
works or effects, or style within an
artwork. All right. As you can see, this is a
good observational practice. If I want to define the
shape of the high light, this is the shape
of the high light, Then we have the mid tone. I have created three layers of it because of
smooth gradation, but it can be just
one color here. Then we have the shape of the shadow and the
shape of reflection, and then the shape
of drop shadow. As you can see, there can
be more levels to it. I have created levels
of mid tones here. With shading, with shapes, we have like levels of
darkness within an artwork. Now this is just a very brief
introduction to shading. I want you now to
try out shading. Grab my brush side that comes with this class,
the shader brush. And see you in the
next video where you can try out shading yourself. See you in the next video.
5. Shading Practice: All right, welcome to
the shading practice. In this lesson, you are
going to practice shading. Okay, you have the
reference photo for observing the shadows. You have the base shapes drawn. We have the highlight,
we have the tone. We have the shadow
of the reflection and the drop shadow below. What you are going to do is this shape right here.
This base shape. You will Apollo it choose gray. And the shade of brush
you need to go for at least approximately
to 40% of transparency. Okay? So decrease the opacity to 40% and make the brush big. At least 10% okay? All right, so let's
just get into it. We are going to start
with the mid tone, okay? So I'm just going to draw along this line here just a few times. Just you can go a little
bit closer to the middle, but I really want to
keep that shape light. Okay. Now going to this
middle shape, just go darker. Push that pencil down. I will choose black, so that I can go even darker
right here. All right. I can go for the
reflection back, I will choose a light color. For example, this color here. Choose this color here. And get back a reflection down there. You can make the brush a
bit smaller. Just get back. I will create a layer below this and choose the
black as again. And just paint, we will
make it a bit bigger. And I will just paint
into this shape, to this drop shadow shape. Okay, now I will turn off
this sketch and walla, I have a really
nicely shaded sphere. Okay, I hope that
you enjoyed it. Just love shading spheres. Now, see you in the
next video where we're going to talk about
procreate brushes.
6. Simple Brushes In Procreate: In this lesson, we
are going to talk about simple brushes
in procreate, through which you
will learn the basics of procreate brushes and
procreate brush creation. And then we can move on to more complex brush creations
later in the class. At first, we are going
to create a stamp brush, because that is the simplest
brush that we can create, will have the shape
of this little star. A stamp brush looks like this. Let me just show you. I will choose one that I
have already created. I will create a new layer
when I'm just tapping, the shape just appears
where I want it. Now, this brush is good to create for
decorative elements, or if you have some
signature shapes that you include
in your artworks. It is so good to have
these brushes so that you don't need to draw them
over and over and again, but you can just place
them when you need them. You can notice that this
space shape is in a square. Because when we are
creating procreate brushes, we need to work on
square sized images so that our images
don't get distorted. What we are going
to do is to go to gallery and create a new canvas. Hit the plus sign and hit the
square sized canvas here. We are going to have a
pretty easy job here because we have the
symmetry tool in procreate. What I'm going to do is
to hit a Range button. Go to Canvas, and turn
on Drawing Guide. And hit Edit, Drawing Guide. Now if I go to Symmetry
and I go to Options, I can choose quadrant. This means that I will
have four squares that will like copy
or mirror each other, and I can create this
star shape within that. If you want to change the
visibility of these lines, that will help guide. We have a white background, now a black color is just okay. But you can change the
color of these lines up here and also the
thickness done. I will choose black. Now you will need a brush and I will
choose a clean shaper. Okay, you have my brushes
in the resources. If I'm drawing it is
like copying like this. But let's just make it nice. Okay, Try to do it
approximately from this part and connect like this. I don't like this curve. I will make a nicer curve. I can also hold
down this line to make it even now I
can move it around. I will just fill in
this shape with color. I can go to eras. Let me see what eraser Yeah. I have a clean
brush as an eraser. I will just erase a little
bit from this to have a nicer edge here as well. Just a little bit painted
a little bit back. All right, so I have this
base shape. Now, what to do? We need to invert it
because when we are working in the
procreate bar studio, the colors work like
with layer masks. If you know what layer
masks are basically, it means that black
color works as full transparency
and white color works as a working pixel. Okay, we need to
invert this image. It will be pretty easy. Go to layers, select this
layer, and hit invert. And now go to background color
and choose complete black. This will mean that in my
brush or in our brush, this black will be
transparent and we will only have this
shape working. I hit the brush studio. Let's create our brush set. Okay, We are going to
create a brush set and put all of our brushes that we create in this class
into this brush set. For that you are the
brush sets you need to slide down to make
this plus sign appear. Hit that you have just created the brush
set. And let's name it. I will name it pattern brushes. I already have one there. I will just move it around. It doesn't confuse me. All right? I have my
pattern brushes here. I will click the
plus sign up here. Now we enter the brush studio. In the brush studio, you have
several settings up here. Stroke path,
stabilization, et cetera. The stroke path is going to
be interesting for us now, but let's just at
first go to shape. You see the shape saucer, It is a circle by default. Here you have an edit
button up here, click that. Import. Oh, I forgot. Okay, we need to
copy this image. I will just free finger
swipe and copy this image. Okay, let's do it again. I will hit the plus sign and go to Shape, Edit, and Import. And now I can paste
this shape right here. And I will hit Done. Now my brush changed. As you can see, I
will just clear the drawing pad and increase the previous size so that you
can see what's happening. It creates a line like this, and you can very
clearly see that this shape is basically dragged around the
line that I'm drawing. This is the basis of
every procreate brush, the shape that you
have created will be just dragged around the
line you are drawing. Now if you go to stroke
path and increase spacing, it will increase the space
between these shapes. Okay? As you can see, some of these
shapes are more or less transparent and we want to
set it to full opacity. If you go to Apple pencil, you can set the pressure
sensitivity and it is by default set like the opacity to max and just decrease that. Now you will have fully
opaque shapes and done. Now let's return
to the original. I will choose this dark
brown color in my brush. I will create a new layer
and I paint my shapes. Here you can see if I change
the direction of the canvas, my shapes will appear in
different directions. So keep that in mind. Okay, pretty cool. Now, you have created
your first stamp brush. See you in the next video, where we are going to play around with it a
little bit more.
7. Simple Brushes In Procreate Part 2.: All right, in this video
we are going to play around with our stem
brush a little bit. We already talked
about the stroke path. We increase the distance between these shapes to
create the stem brush, but what if we decrease
that at first? I'm going to go back to
this brush and name it. If I go about this brush
and I will just hit star, star shape here, you
can add your logo, you can write your name. I will just write the out here. I can sign it and create a new rest point
that and hit Save. That means that if you change any setting
within that brush, you can just go back and hit this rest brush and
it will go back to the saved settings
that you have here. I will hit done, I have
the star shape now. I will slide it this
way and duplicate it. Okay, I will go to
star shape one. I will now decrease the spacing. I want to create a
line brush like this. Let's see what that does. I will increase
approximately to 57% Now I will have a
decorative line brush. Looks pretty cool. This is the simple thing that I have
done. I will click here. I will rename this
brush and star line. Let's name it star line brush. Create new reset point set done. And now I have a decorative line brush that I can use to decorate my
illustrations with. All right, so now you have
two different brushes. Let's move on and
see what types of pattern brushes we have in
procreate. So see you there.
8. Types Of Pattern Brushes: In this lesson, we
are going to talk about the types of
pattern brushes. There are three types
of pattern brushes we can create in procreate
brush studio. We already talked about the base shapes
that brushes have. There can be placed two
different parts of the brush. Now let's just when this base shape is placed
into the As a shape. Okay, we already done
this with the star brush. In the brush studio, we have
placed that into the shape. We also have the grain. So what is the grain? Grain is basically
not the shape, but something behind the shape, and we can place textures
behind the shape. We are going to discuss this
in more detail in a second, but let's just see what
brush we will get. If we place four
dots as a shape, we are going to
create this brush together. Let's just do that. Okay, I will go to
gallery and create a new square sized
canvas Now to place these four dots so that they will work
for us later as well. We will need again the canvas and drawing guide and
added drawing guide. Now we are going to
increase the grid size, 516 pixels down here. Cool, I will hit done. Now I have the middle and I have these four
crossing points. I will choose black and choose from the Atmaters
ultimate Brush Set. The clean shaper. Just draw four dots to
these crossing points. They don't need to
be like perfect. That will add a little
bit of fun to our brush. Now we will need to invert it. I will again invert and make
the background color black, free finger swipe and copy. Now I go to my pattern
brush side and create a new brush shape added. Import paste done. Now I have my dots. I will need to again, go to stroke path and increase
the spacing even more. Yeah, I have the space to
get at 62% I will hit down. Now I have dotted shaped brush. Let's just name it above
this brush, dot shape brush. Okay, let's go back now. We have prepared again
the same shaped sphere. I will go to the first sphere, you can shade immediately
into it or just select the shape and create
a new layer above it. Okay, when we have this brush, I will just choose this brown and make my
brush a bit smaller. This is the stipling technique, I don't know if you
have heard about it. It is basically
drawing shadows and actually textures by adding
dots into the artwork. The density of these dots will define the darkness
of that shadow. Okay, I will just now go
through this midtown area with my brush and try to
add simple density. Add this shadow area.
I will add more. There will be more of these
dots. Can you see that? I can also create a
smooth gradation. Smooth gradation like going from the higher density to less. And also here at the reflection. Now I will add the
layer below it all and create again a high
density below the shape. This is a dot brush. I will just go to the layers
and turn off this catch. And this is the base shading
of the simple shaped brush. Okay, so this is the first
type of pattern brushes. Now see you in the next video. And let's talk about fixed
texture pattern brushes.
9. Types Of Pattern Brushes Part 2.: In this lesson, we are
going to talk about the fixed texture pattern brush. Now we are going to use
the exact same base shape to create a fixed texture
background brush. Let me just go back to this
base shape and copy it again. Free finger swipe and copy. Go back to your brush library and brush and
create a new brush. Now, we are not going to add this base shape to the shape, because this shape
actually means that you are dragging this shape along the line
that you are drawing. When you are adding grain, here is the grain source. It will be actually
as if you would have how to call it a surface behind that shape
that you are drawing along. And there you will have the
pattern if that makes sense, but you will understand
it in a second. I will just addit grain
sauce, import and paste. My four dots. Hit, done. Now I will just scale
it down at the shapes. You will see that if I'm roving my round shape
above this grain, it will just reweel
these dots behind it as if there would be
a seamless pattern of dots placed on a surface. And I would have this
little rounded shape that I can carry along about it. And then I will have basically the brush
line I will hit Done. Let's see what this does. Let's go to gallery. Let's go back. I will turn
back on my sketch of this. Now I have this selected. I will actually name this the
fixed fixed texture brush. Let me show you one more thing. If I go back to the grain, it is set to moving, but we want the fixed texture. The difference between
the moving and the texturized setting here
is that at the texturized, the texture is fixed. You are revealing that
pattern behind it. In the moving, you are dragging that pattern
again and again. Okay. Now, set it to texturized. I can scale here at the shape only the shape of that brush. That is the circle, right? I can reveal on this
part of that texture. I will need to go
back and scale. I will scale it down
to 6% had done. Let's see what we can do. Again, I'm at this new layer. I will select the base
shape and select the brush. I will make it smaller. I will shade here. Now as you can see, if I am shading over
and over again, you cannot do something like
this with this texture. It can only reveal the fixed
texture at the background. This is good when we are
creating textures that will, for example, overlay
the whole background, but we can play around
with this as well. You need to go back to this fixed texture brush
and scale it down to 3% Now you have a
more dense texture. I will just add one more here. Now I will just turn
off this catch above. This is okay. Let's create a drop shadow here. This is going to be
my shaded sphere. With this one, you
can play a lot. Let's just create a
fixed texture brush. Keep it at the 3% Now
let's just duplicate it, go to grain and
scale it up to six. You will have several
scales of this. Okay. Maybe we can go
even further and go to grain and decrease it to
2% Let's see what that does. Yeah, cool. Now we have this dense, we can add a little
bit of shading, but it will be basically, we will add this back. Just smaller and smaller
dots with the fixed texture. All right, now see you in
the next video where we are going to see what the moving
texture does. See you there.
10. Types Of Pattern Brushes Part 3.: In this video, we're going to talk about the moving texture. I will basically do the
exact same thing, go back, create a new brush
and go to grain, add it, import and paste. And it done again. I will have the dots as the fixed texture
in the background, but I will keep it at moving
and I will actually scale that down a little
bit to, I don't know, 10% This means that
when I'm drawing that fixed background with every new lift of
my apple pencil, I am drawing that texture again. I can create this
density, it down. Let's see what we can
do with this third one. I will turn back on the sketch, select the third shape, select and hit plus sign. I will just go around
and shade this tone. Now go back again at the
shaded part several times. As you can see it is re, drawing the texture like this. Again, I can create this several multiplications
of this texture behind. I will draw another
drop shadow here. I can go back with,
it looks cool. I will turn off this
main drawing layer. And voila, here are the three different types of pattern brushes in procreate. And these are just
great representations of what you can do
within a brush. Okay. But there are so many effects we can create
with different base shapes. Okay, this is just
a demonstration. These are pretty cool
brushes, actually. We are going to use
them when illustrating. So as you can see, when you have these little elements
as the shape of your brush, you can create a
more random effect and play a lot
around with density. When you have a fixed texture, it is not set to moving, but it's a text fixed texture. You can only play
with the scale of the pattern you have
at the background. Okay, with the moving texture, with every lift of
your apple pencil, you are withdrawing that
texture in the background. You still had the circles as
the base shape in this two, and here you didn't
have the grain, only this shape as the shape. All right, so I hope that this was understandable for you. Now let's shade a fish
and see how we can use the brushes to shade a different thing than a
sphere. So I'll see you there.
11. Let's Shade A Fish!: All right, let's shade a fish. As you can see, you
have the fish drone. You have the shapes of
the shadows. Pre drone. Here are the different
effects that we can get from these brushes. Now we can just
create a layer below this main line
that we have here. Choose your brush.
Let's just experiment. I will make it smaller, just add some shadows
below the eyes. This is the moving
texture brush. I will just rename it
moving texture brush. See our favorite. What
do you like the best? Can you create
shadows with them? Just fell in the shapes. And practice a little
bit more painting, not just that rounded shapes, but we have some more
complicated shapes right here. Here is this third one. I can just turn it off
and create a new one. Let's try the fixed
texture brush. I'm going backwards, who? This looks cool with the really small dots
can just more textures. Wow, this looks super cool. I think it will work
pretty well for shading. Even adding grain to the adding grain is
basically adding a, like the same grain
to the whole image, not just to parts
where you are shading. Okay, you can find these types of art works if
you type in half tone arts, I will choose the other
fixed texture brush. Just add some dots here. So cool, that's my shaded fish. I will turn it off and
create another layer. And try the dotted shape brush, and just add these dots. Okay, you can get
creative with it, you can combine, all free. In this video, I just wanted
to take a step towards the class project where we
are going to illustrate food. For some reason, just a
fish popped up in my mind. Now we shaded a fish. What we are going to do in the next video is to
create different versions of these brushes to create even more interesting
patterns and textures.
12. Creating A Custom Brush Part 1.: In this video, we
are going to create a custom shape brush. And I will show you that it
doesn't need to be boring as four simple symmetrical dots. Let's create some crazy
dots as a base shape. In this video, you will need a plain piece
of white paper, black acrylic, this
top of honey jar, and a pencil with
this gum at the end. I'm sure that you know
what I mean, like this. Okay, so that we are going to
create dots onto the paper. I have black acrylic
top of the jar. And this white paper, I will squeeze out
a little bit of paint and I want to create a base shape
for this moving texture. That will be circular shape. Okay? I will just
put this rubber into the black paint and just
create a dot like this. I will try to make more
density in the middle of this circle and then outwards
just to make it more rare. Whoops, don't worry. If you have some tra shapes, we can edit them later. Okay, I think that's finished. It looks pretty cool. Okay, so let's make
a photo of it. Let's grab our ipad
and the camera. I will again take a photo
of this texture and I make sure that it is sharp. All right, so now let's create another square sized
canvas, right? Let's import our
base shape photo. Make sure that it
fits the canvas. Okay, now we need to invert it. So I will simply click on
the layer and hit Invert. And now to have
that transparency, we'll need this
black to be fully black and this
white to stay pack. Okay. I will go to adjustments
and curves and tackle this part down here
until it is fully black. And just increase the
white a little bit. All right, now I will
free finger swipe, and copy this base shape. And go back to my pattern brush set and create a new brush. Go to shaped, I said
add it important, paste and it done. We have this shape. Now to make this shape a bit
like better for shading, we will need to add a
little bit of scatter and rotation here at
the shape settings. It will rotate the
base shape around the line that I'm drawing
so that it is more random. I will go to stroke path and increase the
spacing a little bit. Also go to properties and
increase the maximum size. Now can you see that this will look so good when
we are going to shade? I will hit dump. Let's see what we
can do with it. I will turn off the space shape, select a brush, and
create a new layer. Can you see that it is perfect? It looks incredible. This is a texture and
a pattern actually, And it will be
amazing for shading. All right, so now we
have our, let's name it. Let's give it the name maybe. What? A creating name
you can think of. Anything else. All right, But I will just need to
name it custom dot brush. It done. Now, see you
in the next video where we are going to create
the fixed texture brush. All right, so see you there.
13. Creating A Custom Brush Part 2.: In this lesson, we are going to create a fixed texture brush. For this, we will need to print out a black
sheet of paper. The way I'm going to do this, I will create a
screen sized canvas, fill it with black,
go to Actions, share J, and print. We'll select my printer. Here it is, and I will
just print it out. Now if you don't have a printer, you will have the texture
that I will just create in a second within
the resources. Okay, so here is my printed
out black sheet of paper. Basically what I'm going to do with this paper
is to crunch it. This, this will crack
the ink on the paper. When I am taking it out, I will crunch it a bit more. See, this is going
to be the texture. It looks pretty amazing. I will put my ipad
aside and just try to make it even Okay, My hands look like this. I will just go and wash them. Okay, Can you see? This looks amazing.
It is natural. This is going to be
a natural texture. For this, I will create
a photo with my ipad. Go to camera, make sure to create a photo
of this texture. And make sure that it is sharp. Okay, now we will
again need to create a square sized canvas and insert the photo
of our texture here. Make sure that it
fits the square. Let's go again to
adjustments, curves. And make the black very
black and white, very white. Okay, three finger
swipe and copy. Now I will create a new brush. Now I will not go to
shape, but to grain. Add it, import and
paste this photo here. Now this is not a
seamless pattern, but we can create a
seamless pattern for it with the auto repeat function of the procreate brush studio. Now you can see there is
a border overlap here created that creates this check the fact it doesn't
look really good. So I will just get back from it. I can adjust the grain scale. I can rotate it a
bit to get like these random blacks here
a little bit better. I can adjust that
in the base shape. But I don't want to make it too complicated
for you right now. I just want you to understand
how these things work. I will at done, it will create a texture and Walla,
can you see that? It looks pretty amazing. Now I will go to properties and increase the maximum size. Wow, super cool. I will turn this off
and let's see what it can do on a new layer. Wow, this cracked effect. It looks like wood or a trunk of a tree,
or cracked paper. It looks super cool. If I want to increase the
scale of this texture within, I can go back to
grain yet moving. But you can just to tie, increase the scale,
decrease the scale. You can again create two different branches
from this one. Moving again, the
difference a texture in the background
moving is like you can the texture upon each other. Let's just keep
that in texturized. Okay, let's see what it does
and create a new layer. Yeah, super cool. I will name this brush
fixed texture brush, cracked paper texture,
paper texture. We can duplicate this brush
and just go to grain and set the moving play with the scale a bit and rename it
Cracker texture. Moving or moving? Crack paper. Yeah, that will be the name. Okay, we already
have 1-234-567-8910, brushes, and now we are
going to combine this two. See you in the next video.
14. Creating A Custom Brush Part 3.: In this video, I
would love to show you how to combine
these two have a shape and also a fixed texture in the background in one brush. And what effect that has? I will go here into this canvas. I have my correct paper texture. I will go to my brushes
and this customs brush, I will duplicate that
and go into that. Now I have preset
this shape as a base. All right, inte grain, I will place this texture. I will just need to copy it. So I will copy, go back grain, add it, import and
paste, and heap done. Now this texture will be presented through those
dots that are here. Let me show you what that does. I have now that texture
presented through those dots, but I will need to go
to make those dots more closer to each other so that I can
create a darker texture. Let's see, yeah. Looks cool. Can you see that creates such an interesting
edge to this? Super cool, I can create
so nice shading here. Incredible. All
right, let's create another brush similar
to these four dots. But let's draw
something free handly, some elements, and create
a brush from that. See you in the next video.
15. Creating A Custom Brush Part 4.: Okay, in this last
branch creation video, I promise we will
get to painting. In short, we are going to create a similar
branch than this one, but we will have some
custom shapes created. Again, create a new
square size canvas. Let's just add a drawing guide. Added drawing guide
size to 516 head done. Now choose black color
and a clean shaper. Think of of a shape
that you would love to see as a pattern at
the four crossing points, I will draw my leafy
hearts, wonderful. Again, the same exact process. Invert the background will be black free finger swipe copy and now I will go back
to my pattern brushes, create a new one. Let's add it now as a grain. Add it, important. Paste head done. We have the texture, let's do it as texturized. Okay, degrees the scale. Now we have this seamless
pattern of these hearts. Wow, this looks good. All right. I just discovered something I haven't thought
about. This is so cool. We can play with the scale so we can make it smaller and bigger. Wow, amazing. I will keep it at, I don't know, 5% We go to properties
and increase the maximum size of the
brush to 300% head done. And now I have my heart texture. I will just write it here. I'm so happy about
finding this one. It is sober to experiment with different placements
of the same shapes. You will get different
results every time. And super cool. Now I have all my brushes. Here is this next
slide or worksheet, shading with patterns, and let's see what we can do with them.
16. Shading With Patterns: All right, so in this
last one we are going to try out shading with patterns, with our custom brushes
that we have created. We already tried out these
pattern brushes from dots and now we are going to try out these custom brushes. This is really going to
be just an experiment, what we can do with them. You have your base
shape here and you have these shadows so that you
have the guidelines and help. What we are going to
do is the first one, and we are going to use
the heart texture brush, but that is a fixed texture
brush at the background and you wouldn't be able to
create this, adapt with it. What we are going to do is to create another brush from it. I will duplicate this
brush and go inside to it, go to grain and
make it to moving. It will be easier to shade
with this brush like that, but having this fixed texture
of the heart is also good. Having a wide variety of brushes or variety from the same
brush is also always handy. You will just see in
the next video where we are going to actually
illustrate with them. It will be a totally
a game changer. What I'm going to do now
is that I'm going to select the space
shape that I have here and create a new layer. Now with this brush, yes, this heart texture
brush and this dark brown, I'm going to just fill in the tone and the shape of
the shadow right here. Going to the shadow
part. A little bit more. Even more. Even more
from this side as well. A little bit here. Wonderful. I will deselect
and create a layer below it. Below the base shape. And I will just add
the drop shadow. Okay, cool. Turned off the pro thing. I have this cool fact from
the heart shapes. I love it. It really looks like the
screen printing arts and it has so cool effect. Okay, let's try this one now. I will just turn
these off again, select the base shape
and create a new layer. And go with the
custom dots shader. Let's try that. You know where we
combine the dots and the texture at the
background, at the back. Yeah, I will turn on the drawing so that I
know where to draw. I will make it a bit smaller. Okay. I will try to be a bit
lighter up here and then go dark where the shadow is as it is also set to moving. Can you see what kind of
a texture it creates? It really has this
cracked paper effect. I think it looks super cool. I will create another
layer below it. Select and add the drop
shadow turn of the drawing. It looks super cool, right? So interesting, so different. It will make your
artwork look so unique. Okay, I will turn
this off again. Let's try the third one. I will select again, create a new layer. Now, it is going to be
the dotted customs brush. I will turn on the sketch again. Where is the sketch? Here it is. Wow, I will make it
bigger, really lightly. Go around the shapes, the I will go darker
at the shadow parts. Wow, this is so cool.
Take a look at this. Oh my God, I love it so much. I will create another layer
below the base shape. The select filling
the drop shadow. Super cool. I will
turn off the drawing. Where is it here? Walla. Perfect guys, these brushes work like a dream and we are
going to try them out. We are going to paint with
these brushes, all of them. It will be super fun. But let's first see how to work with these patterns
and the colors, and how to make them
look good together. So see you in the next video.
17. Patterns And Colors: All right, in this video, we are going to look
at the patterns and colors and how
those work together, so that we can create
a cool artwork. In the next part of the class, again, we have circles here. It is an obsession of mine. Lately what I'm
going to do is to show you how different
colors work together. I have these shapes here. I will just place this down. I will just paint into
them in the first circle. I will keep it light. I will shade it with brown. Usually when I'm shading, I have a base color that
is lighter and I choose a color that is in a darker
value and shade with that. Until now, it was a pretty monochrome thing that I was doing or we were doing. We had like dots, a light color and a
darker color, right? It works pretty good together. Also with the
simple patterns it, if I zoom out, you can see that having these dots will make
this color a bit darker. But what if we work with
two different colors? Let's just do that. I will
fill this in with blue. I will shade into it. I will choose a darker
version of the blue. I will choose one of the, I don't know, textures. Let's say this hard
texture again, even with a darker
version of the color, I can make it even darker. I can choose a third
color to have it even, and I have this blue here. I will add that into it. Wow, it got dark. But you can still see through the pattern,
the base color. It creates a pretty
amazing effect. Can you see that? All right, but what if we combine two
different colors together? Now, I will maybe this red. Let's go with the blue. Let's choose this dots. Look at this, incredible. What you need to
pay attention to when you are painting
with two different colors is that the color
that you are shading with should be darker value. Now how you can check this? You can create a
value check layer. I will create a new layer and just simply
fill it with gray. I will change the blending
mode of this layer to color. You can see that this blue was
a bit darker than the red. I could have gone darker. I will turn off this
value check layer. Let's see what happens when
I do it with the dark blue. Yeah, it, it got
shaded even better. And there is a variety
within the color, and it looks super cool. Okay, let's see some
other color combinations. What colors work
together with shading? There are often
complimentary colors that pop out in the vintage
illustrations. Let's say I would choose
a purple, for example. In combination with yellow, I will choose yellow. Shade it with purple. The dark purple, let's say. Yeah, it looks pretty cool. Yeah. And also red
and green looks red, and blue looks good. And green and pink looks good. Let's choose a light pink. I will choose a green, a dark green, and
take a look at it. It's pretty weird. This color
combination is surprising, but it creates this
really vintage look. To me, it's like, wow, I love how it goes
from one color to another. As you can see, we
can also say that shading color with a cool
color also is a good idea. In this last one, there is another rule that
we need to talk about that is that
when you are shading, it is good to choose
a shading color. That is next to the main color on the color
wheel. What does that mean? If I pick up this color
and go to the color wheel, I can see that this
color is here. If I push this main color
to one side, oranges are. Let's go to more red worm. I will make it darker, it will bring me out
a bit of a brown. Let's choose the custom shader. Shading with this color
will also look good. Again, this rule is that if you shade with the color
that is next to it, next to the main color on the color wheel,
it will look good. Okay, let's just
summarize what we have learned in this patterns
and colors part. It is always a good idea to shade with the darker
version of the main color. We are talking about
the same color. Okay? Because we are
shading with patterns, the main color
will look through. You can create a gradually
darkening effect, shading with that
version of the color. But you can create
a gradual shading. You have a main
color, a bit darker, and then an even
darker color also, It can create an
incredible effect if you shade with colors that are opposite to each other
on the color wheel. Orange opposite to it is blue. We have this yellow. The opposite to it is purple. We have this pink. The opposite to it is green. This creates an effect that is unexpected and
makes you artwork pop. It is a very usual thing to use these colors together
in vintage illustration. Then the last rule that we have talked about is it is always a good idea to
shade with a color that is next to the main
color on the color wheel. If we have orange, we push it. And also, yeah, again, we have to choose a darker
version of the color, not the same darkness. Right. Push it and make it a bit
darker and shade with color. If I would have like
a pink main color, I would push it to purple and make it darker
and shade with, or if I have blue, I make it darker shade with teal or
with dark green, et cetera. These are some
color combinations that work together with shading. Now let's just talk about how to create your color palette and what I want from you
for this final project. As we are going to illustrate
lots of small things, we need color variation in it. I want you to choose two
colors, one main color. This is going to be
this first column. In the second column, we will
have the secondary color. For me, the dominant
color will be blue. This blue, I will put
it here. Yeah, here. And I will have a secondary
color and that is going to be this orange that I am consistent
throughout this class. Okay, I want a lighter
version of these colors, colors that I'm going to
shade these colors with. Okay. A lighter version
of this blue, light blue. It is very light silver color. The very dark version of it
is going to be this one. I'm going to shade
that with this color. The lighter version is this one. I will keep this very
light beach here. I will choose a
darker version of it. And I will choose, I will shade this color
with this color. Okay? You don't need to choose the lighter and darker version
of this exact same hue. But think about
what you are going to lighten or darken it, okay? What color you are going
to combine it with? And think of them like
separately. I have this color. I want to make it
lighter with this color and shade it with this
color. Also here. This is my main color. I want to add to it with
this and shade it with this. Then when we are illustrating, we can cross combine
all of them. This is just a main
concept to start with and you can build up
your color palette while we are illustrating. If you need another color. For example, we don't
have green here, right? If we need green, we need to choose a green or a
yellow, et cetera. And we will need that actually, because we will have
a hamburger there. But this is going to be
something to start with. Okay. Make sure that
these main colors are at this middle range
of the color pick. I don't know. It is not
too light or not too dark. Okay, it is saturated. Yeah, if you have
your color palette, you will of course, get
this color palette. So you can choose from it. You can use my color
palette if you don't feel confident
enough to create your own. But you are invited to
do this as you wish. You can do, for example, illustrate with my colors and then illustrated again with, for example, a color
combination like this. And experiment
with it like this. Class is all about
experimentation. And just to learn and, and try out things that will
help to make our aspects unique and actually
the process fun. Because that's the point. All right, so now let's go into the illustration part
and let's illustrate those food illustrations
or drawings. Okay, so see you
in the next video.
18. Finally Illustrating: All right, so let's get into it. So now we have these sketches. You are free to add, and remove, and
change, and whatever. We are going to go through each of them together separately. In this first video, we are
going to prepare the canvas. So we have this catch here. I will choose a
background color. I will choose a
background color. Just one that I have in every worksheet that
we have worked through. I'm immediately going to add a new layer about the background and choose
this lighter color. And choose our correct
paper texture. And add that paper texture
over it so that we immediately the texture that
we are going to work on, that we have such the
mood for the whole Yeah, I filled it, now we have the correct
paper texture already. Now what I'm going to do is
to change the opacity of the sketch to approximately
40% and create another layer. Now what I'm going to start with is that
I'm going to fill in the main shapes and basically set the
base color of them. Okay, I'm not going
to go into details or more shapes within one
little illustration, we are going to do that later. What I'm going to do is
to select from the brush, set the clean shaper. You can use any opaque
brush that you love. I have a layer below this catch. And I'm going to start, my main color is this blue. I'm going to speed the process up so that
I don't bore you. What I'm going to do is to
fill in the whole shape of it. Try to follow the outlines
that I have with the catches, and also include
every little part as if I would create a
silhouette of this drawing. I'm going to fill
them in and yeah, I'll see you in the
end of the video. All right, so now I have all objects filled with
the base color berry. I will vary that, so there will be like brown in the hamburger and different
colors that we will need. See you in the next video
where we are going to start with the Sardine
can see you there.
19. The Sardine Can: All right, so let's do this. What I'm going to
start with is to create the different
shapes that this can has. I have the base
shape on this layer, About that I'm going to create
the shape of this edge, this rolled up part and the actually the
bottom of the tin. I'm going to create a new layer. Select this base layer so that I'm not going
outside of this base shape. Okay, This layer now. Okay, so it is selected and
I'm on the layer about it. I'm going to paint
the fish first. I'm going to paint
them this light gray, so I'm still working
with the base shape. And then later I'm going
to add the fixtures. Okay. I will at first choose the sketch
and increase its opacity. So this is opaque. This is a loose sketch. And just remember that this
is a practice and experiment. You can really overdo
patterns and textures, and it can really be, at a point, too much. Maybe I will be too much at some parts of
these illustrations, but the point is to try it out. All right, now I am alpha locking the layer of the shape of the fish and I'm
going to shade that. I'm going to shade
this light color with my main color,
with my blue. And I'm going to go out to
my pattern brushes now. And I will choose
this heart texture. I will add this hearts
into this fish. And I will choose a dark
blue and choose maybe this custom dots brush and add even more shading to the fish. I am experimenting now as well. I can see what works
and what doesn't. Okay? For example, I don't
like those heart shapes. I will start with
the custom dots, brush and I will choose this darker blue and
shade it with it. Yeah, this looks better. I will add this shadow
to one part of the fish. I will add this very dark blue. Make the brush smaller, and add some shadows around the eyes that will
make them pop. Okay. And below the things, Oh, it looks cool, but I feel that
it is too simple. I want to add a bit of
a texture over its. Oh, let's choose the
dotted shaped brush. Yeah, the dotted shaped
brush will work fine to add this little dotted texture
to the fish down here. Add a bit of a variety. All right. Looks cool. Let's add the bottom of the tin. I will de select. I will create another layer
below the fish. I will make it really dark blue. I will go back to my
clean shaper and just fill in this shape
below the fish. Okay, I will alpha
lock this shape and add the pattern
over it with this blue, let's say, let's add the
heart texture. Okay, cool. Can you see that? Looks super nice. All right, now I'm going to draw
this edge of the tin, so I will create another layer. And I will actually choose this really light beach and I will go back to the clean
shaper and just fill that in. Okay, cool. Now I'm going to Alpo log this
shape and let's add. Pattern to it. I will
shade the light color with that dark brown as I
did at the colors part. And I will try the
fixed texture brush. Let's see. Oh yeah,
this looks cool. Can you see that? I can add a little bit of
shading around the edges. Again, you don't need to add a pattern to every part
of the illustration. I now test the brushes
and see what we can do. If you think that
it is too much, you don't need to add some of the textures that I'm adding. Okay. You might
feel that it is too much and it's
totally okay adding just some of the textures
or some of the patterns or just to some areas of the
artwork is totally cool. All right. I will
now do the top part, and I don't really like
these lines on the sketch, so I will just go back
and add that a bit. Like literally I
raise that part. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. You can adjust these
catches as you wish. Okay. All right. So I will create another layer. We will have a lots of layers, and I will actually paint
this top part of the tin, this secondary color
that I have chosen. Okay? So I have the clean shaper and I
will just fill that in. Okay. I'll flock it. I will, I will shade
this with that blue and you choose
a custom dots brush, add a bit of shading
at the edges of it. Maybe I should go darker. I will choose this dark
blue at the edges. Okay, looks cool to me. I will add this light beach to the top as if
it was reflecting. I can make it smaller. Add actually a line of
reflection here with that brush. It looks super cool. Okay, Like this. Now we are going
to do this part of the can and it will be
this red color as well. I will create another
layer, choose red. And with the clear shape
or brush, just fill it. Okay, now I'm going to alpha
lock again this shape and a dark blue and some texture. Let's just choose, for example, this fixed texture brush. Yeah, we'll make it bigger and just add this
dotted texture here. I will add with this
moving with dot shape, I will add some shading, some darkness below this
top part of the can. We'll add some here
as well to this part. Okay, maybe add a little bit with this fixed
texture brush as well. It will look something
like this. Okay, cool. I will now move
on to the part of the can that is basically
the base shape of it. I will just select this layer
and create another one. I have one right here. I will choose maybe
this hard texture. I will just add that in as well. Also to the sides. Yeah, it looks cool. I will add a little bit of
light with this light beach and the dotted custom
brush to the edge, but I will make it
bigger like this. Okay. Maybe to
this part as well. What I'm going to do is to add a little bit of
shading this brush, but with this darker color, these little fish
inside the tin, that it looks realistic. Amazing. Yeah, I will just
decorate it a little bit. I want to add a bit more of
the light color to Sardine. Can this top part, I will choose this dark blue
again and choose one of the, the background brushes. I will just add to the letters. They are not type of
graphically perfect. If you wish, you can just
some nicer letters to there, you can write a
different name to it. The last thing is
that I will create a layer below it all again. Choose a custom brush and
I will add a drop shadow. Yeah, I need to select it and I think it looks
super cool, right? There are so many textures, maybe somewhere they are
a little bit overdone. Like at this part, I think that's a
little bit too much. But we need to experiment how these brushes work together, how colors react to them, how we can combine
them, et cetera. In the next video,
we are going to move on to the Coca Cola glass. Yeah, see you there.
20. The Bottle: All right, this is going
to be so much fun. We have this base color, this is the base
brown or grayish brown will erase a
little bit from here. What I need to do is to
shade it a little bit. I will select the
base shape of it all. Choose an even darker color and a custom brush that's
good for base shading. Yeah, I have this selected
and on a new layer. Yeah. I will make
it a bit smaller and just add a little
bit of shading to the bottle here and there to add it a little bit of a dimension. Okay, Why is it
that? Yeah. Okay. Now you can see that I
placed to this part of the bottle this little shading. Now I will create a new
layer, this orangey red. I will choose my clean shaper. I will fill in the
shape of this top part. I will add this shape. Yeah. Cool. Now let's add some
reflections with a light beach color
and some dots. Let's see which dot pattern
works best for this. Yeah, this looks pretty good. This is the moving
texture brush, but I will scale the
shape a little bit. I'm at the grain sauce
and I will scale the bit. Yeah, I will add reflection to this part of the glass
actually here as well. Okay, looks super cool. I will actually fill in
the whole shape of this. I will need to alpha lock it. I will add these dots to this whole red part
at this top as well. To the side of this. I will choose this darker
version of the color. You have this color palette, but you can just simply go
and choose a darker color. Okay, I will go back to
clean this shape and above it I will just add this darker brown and this
moving texture brush. And just add some
dots right there. I will add some dots right here as well, just for shading. And I will add a drop shadow. I will add a layer below it all. Let's add a drop
shadow now with dots. Yeah, at the bottom
part of the glass, there should be a little
bit darker shadow. Okay. Super cool. As for the logo, we don't really want
any copyright issues. So we have a, that is the star shaped brush. Yeah. I will choose this
beach color and I will create a layer onto this
layer or a layer above. And I will just add this
shape to the middle. I will just place it here, maybe make it bigger and alla or little
gloss is finished. I think it looks really cool. Yeah, super nice. Okay, let's move on to this
one in the next video.
21. The Beanz: Okay, in this video we are going to work on these beans can. All right, I will again select a base and create a
new layer above it. I will paint in this top
part and the sticker, I will need a color for that. I have this light gray
for the top part. I will just choose the clean shaper brush
and just fill that in. Maybe at this bottom
part as well. Let's not complicate it, okay, for this sticker, I will choose this dark brown. Not that, but maybe this one. Yes, I will just paint it in. I will create another
layer and choose this light beach to
paint the beans. And while you are progressing and
paint and try out different brushes and colors, you will see what
works well together. Okay, now I know that this dotted brush
is really good for adding shadows and highlights. That's so cool. I haven't tried the correct
paper brush yet. I will go to this
custom, This is weird, but whatever we have the
correct paper picture, I will just add it. I will choose a lighter
blue to the base shape. I will just alpha
lock this layer. I can just add this crack
paper texture here as well, and it looks super cool. Let's just shade
it a little bit. I will go back to this
custom dots brush. Maybe this dark blue, I will add a little
bit of shading to it. The mix of these two textures, it looks like really cool. What do you say? I love it. I have some darkness here. I will add some
darkness here as well. I will need to follow this
layer of this bottom part. At this top part, I will have a little bit
of shading as well. I will need to darken this part. So I will choose the
clean shaper and just fill in this dark
blue color into it. Now let's add some
dots as well as we have so many dot brushes, let's say this is fixed
texture brush to the top part. Yeah, looks cool. I will add a little
bit of blue inside. Okay, And I will add
some highlights as well. You cannot read the beans sign. I will add a little bit
of light to this sticker. I will add this very
dark brown at first, I will add some dot
stairs so that we have a take sure there or patterns to make it custom dot brush
and this light beach, Yeah, I will just light
behind the letters. Okay. It looks cool. Yeah, we will need a
drop shadow as well, so I will create
another layer below. And let's have a drop shadow now with the correct
paper texture, let's do this dark brown color. Yeah, the drop shadow with this brush also
looks pretty cool. Wow, I love it. It's too much at this, like, oh my God, this
looks super amazing. What do you say? Yeah. Now we have three
different drop shadows with this daughter
branch, it looks cool. With this dotted
texture or pattern, it looks super amazing as well. And with this cracked paper, it's like, wow, a fact. All right, so let's move
on to this one and let's try something else out to
see you in the next video.
22. The Tomato Soup: All right, so let's move
on to this tomato soup. I will go back to
the main layer, select it, create another one. And select this light
gray, almost white. And choose the clean
shape or brush. I will fill this bottom part
of this can with this color. At the top part, I will choose a dark brown, will work fine to its here. Yeah, I need to add
the shape here. Does not drown there,
but doesn't matter. Cool. All right, and I will
fill in this little shape here as well with the
same color. Looks cool. Now let's add some shading. I will keep this color actually
for the whole shading. I will keep it this brown. I will go to the
pattern brushes. I will try to shade
with the texture. Let's say I will try to
shade with dots again. I get some of these brushes and see
what we can do with them. I will choose and just go through this
bottom part with it. These dots like this. Yeah, super cool. Now let's add a different one. Let's add a shading that
will not work well, for example, with this
fixed texture brush. With this moving
texture brush, yeah, I will add some
shading to this side. Maybe up here as
well. Down here. Follow the curve
of the can, Okay, We don't need to add too
much color actually, or shading at the top. Let's choose even darker one. Just add some dots
up here as well. This can is going to be entirely
shaded again with dots. Let's create a drop shadow
and select. I will add. Yeah, worked fine to combine these two dot
textures or brushes. Yeah, as you can see, you don't need to fill in
everything with textures. It is totally cool
if you just leave out parts of the illustration. What I missed is
something from here. I will do the same thing
that I have done previously. I will create a
new layer above it all and add the star shape. Yeah, I know what, we didn't
use the star shape line. Let's just add that
into this illustration. We have it here. Let's
make it smaller. Add a little bit
of this line here. Maybe at this top part as well. Yeah, it looks cool. It adds a bit of
acuteness into it. Looks pretty amazing. All right, let's move on to
the oranges case. I'll see you in the next video.
23. The Oranges: All right, so in this video
we are going to shade these oranges and I am going to try out shading
with the heart texture. Okay, let's see. I am going to shade with
this dark brown. Select the base shape, create a new layer above it. Will add shadows and I will
make it a bit smaller. I will add shadows to this
part where these oranges meet. Okay, I will add some
shading down here, also where they meet here. Maybe a little bit of shading through the middle where
these two oranges meet, where two things meet, they create this shadow. So if I push my two
fingers together, you will see a
shadow between them. We are supposed to draw
those shadows as well. Okay, I will add some textures into the
middle of these oranges. And basically, I
think that I'm good, but I need a little bit more. I will this custom dots brush to add a little bit of darkness, darkness to these oranges. To add more and make it a bit, I don't know, it
looks even better. Let's add some brightness. I missed that. Like
highlights to top. I will add to this middle
part of the oranges. I will to the edges
here a little bit. I need some line work. You know what? I'm going to choose the clean shaper and just paint
this part of the oranges. What I mean, that this part. Okay. The middle. I will add lines into it. I just missed the inner lines
or inner color from that. Yeah, I just missed that. I will just add those here. Yeah, it looks
immediately better here. We yeah, super cool. All right. Now let's add a drop shadow
from these hard shapes. We haven't done that yet. I will go back to
this dark brown. I will choose this scale down hard texture and
add a drop shadow. Yeah, bit darker, one here. All right. Now we shade it with a hard texture as well and
we created a drop shadow. Let's just move on
to the pepper paste. See you in the next video.
24. The Pepper Paste: All right, let's move on
to this pepper paste. What I'm going to do is to
at first paint the colors. Right. I will go back to the
base shape and hit Select. I will create another layer. I will choose this original
red, the clean sh, I will just fill in this pepper, this top of the tube. Now, I want the two
parts to stay white, but on the others to be gray, I will create a new layer
and choose this gray. Let's see, now that's too dark. Let's go lighter, gray. Even lighter, maybe. This one. Yeah, it looks good. I will just fill in this layer here and up here, and this part as well. Now, let's shade it. How I'm going to shade it. Let's go away again
with some dots. I will shade it like this, gray with the blue. Let's see what patterns we have. Let's try and shade with
this dotted shaped brush. I will make these
dots a bit smaller. With this brush, I can play
with the size of the dots. I will add a shading here. So here, cool. Maybe here as well. Okay, to this part two. Yeah, it looks great. It has a similar effect with the custom dots that
we have created, but still has that very look. I will make the dots
a bit bigger so that I can go through
them and add those dots. This will make them
a bit smaller. And I will add some dots
below this pepper to this, maybe to this side as
well. Just a little bit. Yeah, it looks totally cool. I will create another layer for the drop shadow. Will select. I will just add and use this exact same dot brush
for the entire shading. I will try to a dark shadow around the
base shape like this. As you can see, I'm
going dense outside. We'll have a shadow even here as if it was like
lying on a surface. I will add the shadow
below here as well. If you need help with the
shapes of the shadow, where to shade with
these objects, just grab reference photos. These catches are done from
reference photos as well. It is always a good
idea to work with them. Just draw the, draw the shapes of the
shadows and the highlights, just as we did with the spheres. And you will have it easier. I want a little bit
of a reflection, so I will choose this
very light beach on top. I will just will just add some, maybe to the paprika as well, into this top as well like this. Yeah, it looks cool. I think it's coming together. What do you say?
So let's move on to this hamburger
in the next video.
25. The Hamburger: All right, so in this
video we are going to illustrate this hamburger. And I had in mind that
we should combine most of the textures all together to see
how they look like. Because we so far combine
two or three max. Yeah, but let's just start
with getting the shapes. Right now, I don't like this red as the color of, of the dough. I will select the base,
create another layer. Let's just find, I think this brown could go
well with this part. I will just grab the clean shaper and feeling
this shape will make it big. This shape. And
this shape as well. Oops. This is the part
where we arrived, where we will need
different colors. Because as you can see and take a look at this color palette, we don't have yellow and green. We will have cheese
and a salad here. We will need those. But let's first draw
the color of the meat. I think this this
dark or this dark? Which one? Maybe it is darker, let's say color will be okay for that. So I will create
another layer and just fill in the
shape of the meat. All right, now let's
draw the cheese, create another layer, and
let's choose a yellow color. But as we are kind of in a muted color palette and we don't have that
saturated colors, I would choose kind
of a golden one. So I just pushed this
here at the edge of orange and yellow and
chose this darker version, mustard color, for
example, for the cheese. So I will just feel in the
shape of it right here. Okay, super cool. And now let's add the salad. So I will create another layer and let's do the
same with green. I will just this, I would love something
like this For the green. Not that dark, but yeah, I will push this a
bit towards yellow. Let's see. Yeah, it would work. Oops, I will fill in
the shape of the salad. Okay, totally cool. Now, let's just
shade it for this. I will go back to
the dotted shape, to the ban brushes and
this custom shape, because we will need like this nice shading to
create a dimension, I will choose for this color. Let's just try out the theory of drawing with the same color, but wait, the darker
version of it. Let's add, oops, yeah,
I will choose that. I will actually flock all of these new shapes I
have just created. And I will just shade that. I will add this shadow
to this edge of it, also here below the meat. Okay, I will add back
a little bit with this red so that there is
color variation at the top. It will create a
great reflection. As you can see, I
made it a little bit bigger and I went through
the shading as well, and it created a
really nice effect of going from one
color to another. I will show you again, or I will show you
it here we have this small grain
shading and I will just go through it all with
these bigger shapes and it will create us this
brutally amazing texture. So there is color
variation in it, there is gradation in it, et cetera, So it is super cool. I will add the season
dots at the top. I will just choose
this light beer and just simply
just paint them in. I will not shade them. I might add a little
bit of shadow of them, but let's not go to
too much detail. This type of illustration
is not that detailed. Yeah, super cool. I also miss a little
bit of reflection. I will go back to
the custom dot brush and make it a bit smaller. I will keep this color. I will add just a little bit of reflection in the top here. Maybe here as well. Maybe here. Okay, now let's go to the tomatoes and add the
edges of the tomatoes. I will choose this darker
brown with the clean shape. Where are the tomatoes? Okay, I kept them the original. I will just go back
to the main shape and just fill that in. It's going to be the
edge of the tomatoes. I will shade this like in a way. I will create a new
layer for the shading. Let's shade this red
with dark brown. Let's choose the
darker, we Okay, choose the dotted shape brush. Let's just try to
shade with that. Yeah, this is going to be the dotted shaped brush texture
added here at the edges. I will add more. Yeah. Cool. Let's go to the cheese. I will erase the
extra from here. Yeah. Okay. To the cheese we haven't shaded with
this crack texture paper. Let's just do that. Will again, select this color and choose a darker version of it because that's what
we are doing now. I will make this brush a bit smaller and just go through it. This is going to be a bit weird, but Okay, so we add it a little
bit, add lightest bells. I will choose this
very light one and I will go through this
cheese with that. Maybe that will make
it look better. Not the best, but let's move on. Here is the salad. I will choose the main color, make it a bit darker. And let's shade it with
Mm, heart texture. There will be hearts
in it, let's say. Now let's shade the meat. Let's shade it with this
small hard texture. I will add this light beach
to the top of it like this, maybe a dark brown
to the bottom. Wow, it looks so great.
Can you see that? This is, my
experiments are good. We now know that this
combination doesn't look good, but this looks good. Wow, I love this. There are
three different colors. The base color shoving through. This is the area where only this shape is looking
and only this color. And where they meet, wow, it looks super fun. So this is what I
love about this. You can find some
cool combinations that will make your
artworks look amazing. Let's just put a
drop shadow below, so I will create a
layer below widow, and choose this very dark brown. And I will choose the
heart shape again, It looks pretty nice. I love how it shades it
creates so nice half tones. Creating art is not
about perfection. Okay. Just remember that
enjoying and discovering, and like, you don't need
to reinvent the wheel, but you can invent
things like why not? The way you like to do
things is always good. It is not bad. Okay, super cool. I love it. Let's just
move on to the last one, and let's fill this
jar of jam together.
26. The Jam: All right, let's
just do this again. What I'm going to do is
to select the base shapes and create another
layer so that I can fill in the colors. I will choose this blue, and again, I'm getting
the clean shaper. I will just fill in the top. I think I'm going back to blue. I'm missing the
blue because there are too many reds in the middle. I will make the
sticker light blue. I will just fill that in. Okay, cool. Let's
fill it with a gem. And that will be red. So I will create a layer
below this. Actually change. Or I could even change the whole color red, but I don't want to. Okay, I will just choose
this red and fill it till with it. So this is going to be our jam. Let's just shade it. I am add texture brush
1.1 at this point, I don't even remember
when we did that, but what I'm going
to do is to make it bigger and just go
through it all. Can you see these small dots? What an interesting texture. It as it's like paper
texture, like little dots. I will make it smaller and add a little
light in the middle. Wow, this looks also great. Okay, looks fun. I will add some light
to this part as well. Okay, I can do that changes
in light with this brush, but this contrast looks
pretty amazing. I love it. Maybe I will use it
at my final artwork. All right, I will choose a dark blue and let's
try to add shadows. I will add shadows at this. Again, not just a bit. Okay? Sweet. Okay, I will deselect and create
another layer below it and add drop shadow if I can. So white but really nice. It is good if you take notes
of which brushes you like, If you have too many of them, sometimes you get, you
just lose the track. All right, let me summarize. This is all what happened
here in the next video. And then we will arrive
to the end of the class. So see you in the next video.
27. The Summary: All right, so what do you say, I love this so much? I think it looks amazing, like what we have
just done here. There were texture
combinations that didn't work. There were texture
combinations that did work. What I love here is
the shading with this texture brush and these random dots
that we made here, it made the sardines look
a little bit creepy, but they look totally cool. I love it. I love
how this works. Like this dark blue
with this red. And I also love what kind of a drop shadow this brush does. I love the simplicity
of this one. Simple brushes with shapes. I mean simple shapes. Simple shadows with dots. It is so simple and so nice. I love how this color works
together with this one here. I love the cracked paper
texture as a light. I love how these two
colors work together. Also, a drop shadow
looks cool here. Well, this is not my favorite, but I love this line
and how cute it makes this can in
this pepper one. I love the drop shadow. Actually it looks pretty cool. The heart shapes are amazing. Like I totally love
how this goes. This gradient is beautiful. I will use that. Here is my hamburger. I love how these colors work together, these three colors. At this, am I love this
part of the texture? Okay, experimenting
with these textures and patterns will
help you to get closer to what works
for you to create brushes that fill your
needs in illustration. So you don't need to follow anyone and anyone's,
I don't know, path, find and dig your own path and
enjoy enjoy it. All right. So what I want from you
as the class project is to select one image from here. What went the best for you? What was the most joyful
for you to create? For me, the Sardans. I love them. And I will create a thumbnail image for
this class with it. Yeah. And create a more detailed
sketch because this is really rough and you can
customize the writing, you can customize the shapes
and apply those textures, color combinations and patterns that worked for you during this exploration process and create a final artwork with it. And I will not be with you
with that process because I really want you to
work on your one. In a second, you can
see a sped up video, how I created the
thumbnail image that I'm actually not finished with yet when I'm shooting this. But I will be when I
will edit the video so you can see that
process, how I worked. And then we will
see each other at the final video and summarize what did you
learn in this class. I wish you a joyful process
in your creation process, so Okay, see you
in the next video.
28. Final Thoughts: Congratulations, you did it. You finished the class. You sticked till the end. And I'm so proud of you. Now you have 300
million new brushes and the skills to create more. You also have your
little illustrations and the final artwork, and I'm sure that you are
proud of yourself as well. Now, show us your artworks. Go to the project gallery and
applaud your class project. Include your process
photos if you have some, and also the final artwork. Make sure to take
your time to add some words to it to
describe your experience. And I would also love to
invite you to add the review, or write a review to this class and express
yourself also there. It is really important to me. Okay, so now let's see what we have learned
in this class. In this class, you
have learned what are textures and that by
applying textures, you can get rid of
that digital look. You have learned the basic
principles of shading. Then you practice shading. You've got introduced to procreate brushes by
creating custom brush. And the line brush
then learned about the three types of pattern
brushes and well created, all free from simple dots. Then we shaded the fish
and created again, three different
types of brushes. But now from a handmade
and hand drawn base, we again tried shading
with these brushes, then trying them out
in color as well. We tested them all on eight simple illustrations
of food and packaging. And then we created the
final illustration on our own and summarized our
best results in this artwork. Well, I do hope
that this class was enlightening for you and
that you keep experimenting. Follow me in Social
for up to date infos and seeing
my other classes. It was a pleasure to have
you here happy creating.
