Star Ornaments for Christmas Decor

This class came about from my pursuit of creating a topper for our Christmas tree — just in the right shape, size and colour to suit the size of our tree and the rest of the decorations — but the four-point paper star I created turned out so nice, that I also decided to expand the range to some additional Christmas tree ornaments in a smaller size, create a few garlands, and also created some larger stars for hanging in the windows and generally around our house.

Whilst I have used some metallic and other specialist paper before in papercraft projects (to create origami gift boxes and simple paper garlands), I avoided them when dealing with any complex structural paper folding as they felt either too delicate or too tricky to fold. But when I decided to create geometric star ornaments, I thought that I’d try to give this sort of papers another go since there’s not much folding and fiddling with paper required. And the results were fantastic! I decided to explore Gmund Gold collection counting on it being pretty durable since this paper is metallic only on one side, and I fell in love with it! It has proven to be super easy to work with, and the ornaments hold shape pretty well and look really convincing!

Tree Topper

Created in a medium size (just like what I've demonstrated in this class), using Gmund Gold paper in colour History (110 gsm).

To attach the star to the tree, I've use a bit of wire which is securely attached within the ornament using two layers of masking tape, and it is just wrapped around the tree stem to hold it in place.

Garland

Contains 3 small stars created using Gmund Gold paper in colour Helium (110 gsm), which is a bit lighter than History, but it looks fantastic in a low light and with the warm Christmas lights around.

These are just a few of my favourite uses for these stars, and I cannot wait to see yours!

Thanks for watching!
