First Lino Cut Ever
Several months ago I splurged on a speedball block printing kit, but have been too nervous to use it.
The block material cuts extremely easily and I almost wonder if a harder/tougher block would work better for me? (I'm used to doing some woodcarving and need to recalibrate my muscle memory!) Maybe having a tool with a finer point would be a good idea, or a different kind of point. (The speedball kit had 3 tips but none of them felt like what I needed.)
My favorite series is the black/white/gold series. In person, though, the texture of the purple/gold J is very interesting. It was created by adding layers of tombow markers which picked up the ink that was scattered inside the "J".
Next time I will not include as much empty space - that seems to have caused part of the problem with the scattered texture in the negative space.
I saved half of the lino block and hope to do another print soon. I can totally see myself using this in mixed media in the future, and maybe with the children's book I've been promising to create for years.
