The Red Ridding Hood

Hello everyone,

It's been years since I started joining this class but I still haden't post my project.

So here it is... at least, a part of it.

The Fairy Tale that came immediately to my mind was The Little Red Hood.
Why? Well, I don't know really...

Maybe because of the graphic possibilities given by the story, the raw aspect of the linocut gets along very well with it... I mean much more than a fairy tale with beautiful precious dresses and fairies... don't you think?

I also thought of a french illustrator who made beautiful raw and graphic illustrations for The Sleeping Beauty in 1920 :

I discovered his work when I was writing my Master's thesis on French illustration in the inter-war period.

It's very far from my usual style but I'm trying to simplify my line and get less lost in the details, so I thought that taking inspiration from Lucien Laforge would be a good way to learn about the linocut technique, its possibilities but also its limitations (depending on the hardness of the lino used).

As I took a long time to post this project, I don't know exactly if I did it in 2019 or early 2020...

The preparatory drawings for the following linocuts are done but I haven't had time to engrave them yet.
I decided to do it this week because... it's about time isn't it?

The only made so far is the scene where Little Red Riding Hood walks through the forest to visit her grandmother.
She doesn't know it yet, but the wolf is already there, waiting for her.
So she throws herself into the wolf's mouth, which is represented by the disturbing shapes of the trees, a gaping maw into which she gradually dives into.

I'll add the next lino as soon as I'll have finish cuting them.
