Grant Writing Basics Class Project
Why do you think funder expect accountability from organizations when grant money is awarded?
- I think it’s important for funders to expect accountability from organizations because they want to know their funds are being used appropriately, and that the funds help organizations that align with their values and lastly that those funds are actually making a difference.
On a scale of 1-10 I feel about 2 in readiness as this is my first course on Grant Writing and I really don’t know anything about this space except the fact that I want to learn about this so I can help organizations that align with my values.
The areas I need to better understand are how to locate grants and their requirements.
I don’t currently work with an organization however the non-profit I have in mind work in animal wildlife rescue. The high priority items I think this organization should look for are deadlines, purpose and follow up requirements.
I think it’s important for all the application parts to align because the funders may be looking at hundreds of applications and if they’re asking for the application a certain way, they must have experience in what makes the review process efficient. It also shows right off that bat if an organization can follow directions.
Some no-cost or inexpensive ways to publicize the grant award and show appreciation are the use of social media such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and tag the funders. You can also include it in an email newsletter update. Lastly you can give thanks at every event your organization hosts.
My long term project goals are to pivot my career into a company that aligns with my values. I worked in a corporate setting for a decade and though it went well for a bit, I soon realized I didn’t believe in their goal of promoting over consumption. I now want to use my skills to help the planet but most important ly the animals that live here.
