Cucumber Soap

I love organic products and I love supporting small businesses that sell organic products so for this photoshoot I wanted to style and take photos of this cucumber soap. My process always starts with planning so for this photoshoot I decided to do a simple bathroom scene and add cucumber as the main props. I got inspired by a product styling reel on Instagram showing how bubbles can add fun and interest to bathroom products so I wanted to create something like that too.

But first, my step 1 photo :) not really a selfie but I asked my husband to take a picture of me behind the scenes. I wish I could tell you that photoshoots are all fun but it actually involves lots of troubleshooting. I was so focused and had a really serious face so my husband asked me to smile.

So this is my very first try. I really like blurry backgrounds but I feel that this was too much. I was using a prime lens with a maximum aperture of f/1.7 here so my depth of field is extremely shallow. I wanted to see more of the cucumber in the background so I will try again using a higher aperture/smaller lens opening.

This is my second try. This time I set the aperture to f/2.8. It’s okay but after the shoot and while I was editing I noticed that my lines are not straight as well as the product so I will try again.

This is my third attempt and I am satisfied :) The lines from the fake tiles in the background looks straighter and my overall shot looks cleaner

Now it’s time for the bubbles! It was super fun so I didn't mind having to do it multiple times just to capture the perfect positioning of the bubble for me. This is subjective but the last two photos are my favorites :)
