Thanks so much for sharing your project! “Crooked Path” sounds really cool, and I’m looking forward to seeing how you develop it. I hadn’t heard of GB Studio before… It’s a really cool software, and I hope it has the flexibility you need--I’d definitely argue that the Gameboy format, if not GB Studio itself, is an interesting constraint in part *because* it limits you somewhat while offering you more guided creativity.I appreciate your emphasis on player choice throughout the project. It seems like your game will indeed have really strong replayability since the story can vary so widely based on the moral decisions your players make. It also makes sense that as your players get more skilled, they’ll develop the foresight you’re after and have more controlled results.Two things I’m especially excited about with your idea--gradually making the moral implications of decisions less apparent (black/white -&gt; shades of grey -&gt; recognizing what you’ve done), and using collectibles as indirect control.Do you know what form the choices will take on? Will they be combat-based, conducted through dialogue, or something else? I’m curious to see your take on the roguelike format--is this a traditional roguelike similar to TTRPGs? I know a common feature of roguelikes is multiple ways to tackle the same issue--Wikipedia talks about “a degree of complexity due to the number of different game systems in place that allow the player to complete certain goals in multiple ways, creating emergent gameplay.” (<a target="_blank" rel="noopener external nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roguelike)">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roguelike)</a> Will that spawn player choice? It sounds like it could pretty easily become a huge project--be wary of its scope. Also, it’s noble of you to share it for free, but don’t feel locked into that! Of course you deserve to be paid for your work.Your project is really fun to think about, and I’m sure it’ll be a really cool experience to play it. Thanks a lot for sharing it here. Whew, that's a longer post. Very exciting stuff!

I'll be incorporating centralized randomization systems for outcomes in some areas of the project. Think along the lines of animal crossing where you have objectives, related characters, and rewards randomized from a pool of possible variables. 

Additionally, I'll be working towards a series of set localities with features &amp; access determined by player choices, quest outcomes. This will lead to multiple possible configurations, with some randomization and some indirect player influence, creating the impression of a more reactive or fluid environment.

Implementing these will allow for maximizing output in terms of player interactions for the minimal amount of development effort.

As to the roguelike concept, I played an old playstation title called "Way of the Samurai" which takes a central starting point and provides multiple different pathways through a sandbox environment, leading to multiple outcomes. As a player you come away with the question 'what would happen if...' and then the immediate inclination is to go and test it out! Leads to very engaging gameplay within a controllable field of possibility. I've sought to replicate this mechanic here, which lends itself to moral choices and consequences. Having the 'reset' to the beginning of the game allows for uniquely low buy-in (great for casual play) with interesting results!

This was an entertaining and insightful process – happy to have had the opportunity to put my game concept under the lens!
