This workshop is meant for aspiring screenwriters who're looking to finally get started with the original story they've been dreaming of. Sometimes, 'start at the beginning' is bad advice; a writer needs to lay down the groundwork and develop a stronger relationship with the characters they want to write about before they insert them in a story or plot. I think ideally you want your characters to feel like people you've met, people you've shared memories with.

During the four weeks of this workshop, I suggest an outline for following my 'Russian Doll Exercise' so that you can complete your own project with plenty of space to think and tinker. Give me 30 to 60 minutes a week and you'll leave with three scenes of your own that will lay the foundation for a deeper original story. We'll be following this calendar, which I suggest you print out and tape up on a wall next to your writing desk:

What if I want to do more than you suggest - I have a lot of free time? Choose one of the films I use for the case-studies and watch it in its entirety for a deeper study. You can also try applying the exercise to other characters you forsee using in your future story.
