Hi Hong Ye, Glad to hear that you got some 'white edges'. The white border gives us a neutral boundary for our painting and makes us admire it and see it in a positive light. Your painting shows me that you have great facility with this medium and your execution is bravely done, showing no timidity or hesitation. Of course there are times when we are painting watercolor when it can get pretty tense, especially when we are painting on wet paper. Your painting sings a bold and confident song to me. Now if you want to go bigger here is what I do to avoid the 'buckle' and still keep the edges white. Tape your paper ( In this method the paper is NOT taped to the board it is taped along the edges of the paper.) say 10 in.  by 14 in. which is as big as I would go for this first experiment. Now the paper under the tape is dry and water can only penetrate from the underside of the paper. paper will buckle when you have some of the paper dry and some of the paper wet. The trick is to get the paper under the tape wet from the backside. With this method you may get a small amount of curve along the edges of the taped paper but the painting surface will stay flat.  Now liberally soak your paper either in a tub or by washing water on with a big brush. If you are using the soak in a tub method then leave it for about 20 to 30 minutes and do not use hot water or the alum sizing in the paper will come out. Remember that different watercolor papers are more or less absorbent than others and some may take 30 minutes or more to fully saturate. If you are brushing on the water have the paper supported by a painting board and flip the paper over back and forth wetting both sides until it is saturated. The brushing method may take some time and you have to be careful not to 'rough up ' the surface of the paper  as you attempt to get it to lay flat. The soak method is best in the studio and I use the brush on method when sketching outdoors. Slap Down Wet is what we are looking for. Here is how you test to see if the paper is fully saturated. Lay the wet paper on your board and lift one corner up about 3 inches. Let it go.  If it slaps down immediately and lies flat the paper is ready. When the paper is fully saturated it will be buckle free as long as you keep it moist while painting. If the paper is fully saturated you will have at least 30 minutes before it starts to show signs of buckling. All depends on the air temperature. On a damp day outside it will never buckle but on a hot windy day by the beach it could dry in 10 minutes. I keep my paper wet by adding water on the 'underside' of the paper. The water will 'wick' up into the back and keep the front moist. A water spritzer gently misting the surface and the backside periodically will keep the paper down also. Remember to towel off any surface water before you start to paint. Remember to let the paper dry completely before removing tape and to pull the tape away from the painting so as to prevent ripping the paper; Do it slowly!!! Now, what if your paper is all curled when it dries? Here is what i do. The watercolor paint is set into the paper after it has dried it will not come off if you re-wet the paper from the underside or even soak it in a tub. So for a slight curl I wet the back of the painting and lay it on a piece of glass or other non-absorbent material then place a dry piece of paper over the top of the painting and apply weight to the top, such as books, something to flatten the paper. Let it sit overnight.  I also use this method if the first did not work. I soak the finished painting in a tub for about 3 minutes, don't worry the paint is fixed and will not go anywhere. Faint whispers of some of the grainy paints like ultramarine or sienna may drift off the picture but nothing that would make a noticeable change. Then I take it out let it drip and then lay it on glass, tilt and drain some more, then lay very soft white cotton towel on surface making sure to not press down just letting the towel pick up some more moisture. Now I remove the towel and lay a piece of blank dry watercolor paper the same size or a bit larger over the painting. Last thing is to add weight on top of the paper and let sit overnight. It will be flat as a pancake in the morning. Some people iron their picture flat ... not my choice. You can always just let it dry and put it under weight for about 3 or 4 days also. Experiment and discover. Once again thanks for posting and see you in class, it was a real pleasure seeing your work.

I tried the "soaking paper" method and I love it! the paper will be flat at least one hour!

But the only problem is that, I dont know "When I can apply the tape"?

Because "soaking paper" method need to keep the paper moist, However, the tape need to be applied when the paper is dry....

"flat the paper" is amazing! I never dare to put the drawing in the tub! very interesting to know this method ^-^

Yes tape the dry  paper and then soak it. Just tape the paper do not tape it to the board. Soak it and enjoy.

Try the California style watercolor next. 

I use soaked paper without tape.
But since you know this 'tape method' give the class a try and use the soaked method with tape

It's the Blue coloured class with my picture.

Finally I got my Green painter's tape!
I tried to draw on a 5.5*8.8 140lb watercolor paper. With this tape on and surface wet paper, it still has some buckles, but much better than before!&nbsp;
What's more important, I have absolute white edges now!
