<p>Elaine, your pen and wash Sun Conure turned out beautifully! Great work drawing the bird freehand. It's not easy getting those shapes and proportions right in a freehand sketch! I also really like how you handled the pen and ink techniques. There's line weight variation in your lines and marks, which provides lots of interest and realism to the piece. There is no "stiffness" or overworking present in your work, which lots of people struggle with. You also did phenomenal work with your watercolor washes. Your colors look bright and vibrant. Great addition of splattering for texture and interest! I love how you used colors that you were already using in the piece for that splattering. Repeating colors leads to harmony in a visual composition, which is always a great thing. You managed to balance your work with the two mediums (ink and watercolor) very well! Thank you so much for sharing your work here. Hope you enjoyed the course! :)</p>

Wow! You can tell I free-handed it? I tried to put some dynamic movement in it. I once traced everything and my New Year's resolution was not "be a copy machine". I'm trying to draw everything freehand now. I think the loose urban sketching tutorials finally loosened me up a bit. Thanks for your comments, and yes, I definitely enjoyed your class!

Yes! I can 100% tell that you drew it freehand. :) And I'm SO happy to hear that you've made it a goal to improve your freehand sketching skills! I truly do believe that drawing/sketching is the basis for all kinds of art, and what allows us to create original art from scratch that has lots of ourselves in it, from the very beginning.
