Workshop Project: Watercolor and Floral Illustrations and Final Project Prompts

Workshop Project: Watercolor and Floral Illustrations and Final Project Prompts - student project

Hi everyone!

First of all, a big thank you to Peggy and Dylan for creating such an amazing workshop!

Today was the perfect day to start this project as my daughter (she is 10 and loves to sing lol) is out during all day with her school class, so its just me and the cat and hamster at home :D

For the Part 1 of the project I decided to draw not vases but coffee pots as I am a lover of vintage coffee pots and its always a delight to me when I find some at street vintage fairs :D

So, my journey started with a little bit of research online and at home.

I started my research with some of my own photos of coffee pots (i bought those in some vintage fairs in Italy and France) and already sold online lol :D

After that, I decided to check my Pinterest and see which coffee pots shapes I had previously saved, and that is some of the results of my pins:

So, after checking which shapes I would be creating the fun part started :P

* Choosing a color pallet (mine are usually colorful and I am always trying different combinations. Who needs the color wheel, right? :D)

And so I started :)

But not without a good music :D

After some cappuccinos all the paintings were done :)

And part 2 of part 1 starts (got it, right? :D)

* Adding details :)

So, for the details I decided to follow Peggy's advise and just let it go.. I was not worried with the outlines at all and I just draw fast without actually thinking of right and wrong, but just enjoying the process :)

Final results with outline:

Final composition (pre-Photoshop):

So, I ended up with a colorful set of coffee pots and I decided to go a little further. So, my next step was to create a pattern to use in products.

Applications (textile. Design will be uploaded in my Spoonflower shop):

And other products (in my Society6 shop):

Part 2: Floral Illustrations

I must admit that I barely draw floral so it was exciting to start sketching florals today.

As always I start my research online and offline. I have at home a lot of old floral books that came in hand today when I started to decide which flowers and leaves I should be drawing.

I am still deciding what to do with the floral illustrations, but I believe I will be painting those probably in Procreator and creating a really nice floral patterns.

Thank you so much for checking my project! Really excited to receive some constructive feedback!! :D

See you all at the next class!!!

Bia

Hi Everyone!

It turns out we are allowed to upload only 1 project x class and as I had divided my projects (1 in each class) I had no spots left to upload my final project, so I am just updating this previous post :)

The workshop project consisted mainly in the exploration of the prompts opened to our own personal interpretation :)

For the final project of the workshop I picked some of the prompts suggested:

First one I made today was:

1) create a texture dance

For this project I decided to use watercolor and created 12 swatches with watercolor textures:

One of the swatches I painted and the final result:

The second prompt I made was:

2) draw your favorite flower. draw it again with your non-dominant hand

For this prompt, I draw a rose with my dominant hand (right one) and tried to repeat a similar shape with my left one.

The third prompt I choose was:

3) draw a familiar object. break it down into pieces. reassemble in a new way

For this prompt, I decide to draw one of my old Polaroids. As prompts are opened to our interpretation I went literal about the "break it down into pieces" and reassemble in a new way.

First illustration (object - Polaroid).

My reference (photo I did of the Polaroid):

Illustration (I used Pen and Artistic Color Pencils):

Breaking it down into pieces ( I literally draw each part of the machine separate from each other)

Reassemble in a new way. I decide to recreate the same art with different media.

4) draw 25 different lines

I really enjoyed this prompt. First time I tried to draw 25 different lines at the same time :)

5) write down any 5 adjectives (description words like “smelly”, “sappy”, and “slimy”..they don’t have to start with “s”), write down any 5 nouns (people, places, or things like “dog”, “glass of water”, “The Alamo”). Create something by combining the adjective with the noun

6) draw your favorite fruit 12 different ways

7) find a combination of colors that buzz

Those were the prompts I made during my day and I really hope to be able to finish more till end of Workshop! :)

Thank you Dylan and Peggy for such amazing opportunity!
