Hello Mary! It was so great to talk to you yesterday and work through what was preventing you from turning this beautiful design into a repeating pattern. The problem was that your duplicate bounding box still had a FILL in it. As soon as we made that box with NO FILL and NO STROKE, your design worked perfectly! Remember, once you have completed your design, you need to: <ul><li>make a copy of your bounding box</li> <li>move it to the back (Object&gt;Arrange&gt;Send to Back, AND</li> <li>make sure that it as NO FILL and NO STROKE</li> </ul>Then you highlight everything on your art board, drag it into your swatches panel and test that it's working. It was so much fun to talk to you LIVE over the phone to solve this problem. I wish more students would email me when they need help! Reach out anytime at anne@annelafollette.com. Hi Anne,  Your willingness to reach out and help was amazing.  I was so close and frustrated, and there you were! That genuine concern is so rare. Good Morning, Anne! &nbsp;I love in your write up that you start with your age! &nbsp;I'm 75 and trying so hard to learn surface pattern making in Illustrator. &nbsp;I've followed your instructions over and over and no matter how good I get at making the beginning of a pattern, this is what happens after I drag and drop to my swatches and check the pattern. &nbsp;They all turn out like this. &nbsp;Please. &nbsp;What am I doing wrong?
