Verano del corazon

*This is a second draft, with some rhyming and an attempt at some meter. Will upload a final draft with a description on how I intend to present it*

Two curious flowers; petals red and black

Twisted together like vines on the dance floor

The May night set a rhythm from eons back

Spring air bloomed the roses on the dress you wore.

In the kitchen to fill my cup with nectar

I held you in my arms for the very first time.

In that moment I was present and aware,

Living in the now instead of in my mind.

We drifted close, until a kiss, like lightning,

bridged the gap between our thundercloud lips.

Our bodies crashing, and our thunder booming

through the kitchen while margarita mix dripped.

I left that night awake and alive and afraid

to lose what it was I had found in your arms.

But our lightning would strike again, and again,

the storm blowing us clumsily, awkwardly,

spiraling forward.

I felt so alive in the eye of our storm.

You, like Persephone, brought my heart summer.

Its vast cold fields bloomed, growing beautiful forms.

I saw how the world could be. I could want more.

Summer comes to an end, as all things must do.

The flowers dry out in autumn’s golden light.

I can keep my heart warm in the winter, though;

If our storm bloomed flowers for you, I’m alright.

I hope I helped you see, as you did for me,

What the world could be. That we can ask for more.

My heart will always know the summer we shared.

I’ll always remember how you helped me see.

Do you feel as alive as we did on that night?

Does your heart want more than what you’ve been given?

You can still see the world for what it could be.

I know you can, because you taught it to me.
