Typography & illustration
Hi everyone! This is our example project. Use it as a reference if you want (or not!). We have added some info and details on the exercises:
FIRST EXERCISE
For our first exercise, we added typography on a secondary editorial illustration for the article "4 Myths About What a Book Cover Should Look Like". After all the research, we used Brandon Grotesque for both text lines.

SECOND EXERCISE
For our second exercise, we chose the word/concept 'Noir'. We made a little typographic composition with the letters so that they looked like a gun, and filled them with some stereotypically noir elements: a tough detective, a femme fatale, and a dark alley. We chose the font Knockout.
We also used a very reduced colour palette with a striking red and black plus three blueish greys and later changed it to a more harmonious one, using cream, a blueish grey and brown.

THIRD EXERCISE
And for our third exercise, we used typographic characters almost as physical elements, with weight and presence, affecting the protagonist. In this case, the typographic message is obviously conceptual but with a very literal effect. We used Farnham Bold Italic.
Final illustration
An additional piece for this exercise was the main thumbnail of this class! Made of 4 different young faces with some kind of typographic character involved, acting as physical objects: an earring, a pendant, glasses... In this case, we used Plantin, Futura and Bitter.

Please, share your own project! You can focus it on only 1 of the 3 exercises or make all of them. Or even produce several pieces for ONE exercise. It is completely up to you :-)
