Type tips!

Type tips! - student project

These 10 type tips were so helpful!  I was especially happy to learn the short cuts for adjusting the tracking and resizing the text.  And it was nice to get a refresher on the touch type tool and how to type text on a path.  I love these 10 in 10 classes for refreshing my Illustrator skills.  It's so easy to forget how to do simple things!

I have a question:  I'd really like to create a stitched effect for my lettering.  In my example below, I've duplicated the text layer, changed the stroke to white with no fill, and offset the path -5.  Then I changed it to a dashed line.  I'm wondering if it's possible to make it so the "stitches" don't bend as they go around the corners of the letters. If I were sewing, I wouldn't bend the stitches like this.  (Well, not on purpose anyway!)  If you have an answer - or can point me to the class that would explain how to do this, I'd really appreciate it!  I feel like I may have learned it once, but can't find it in my notes and can't seem to figure it out on my own!

Super class Helen!  I'm looking forward to taking the rest of these 10 in 10 classes.

(By the way...I'm sure you recognize the needle! I'm finding it very useful!)

Here's the stitched lettering after I read Helen's advice in the comments below.  I'm so happy with it!  Thank you Helen!
