This is a project example:  I have my writing file open which is a treatment (synopsis) of a book I am writing. I've changed the preferences for the page so that it is black type on a white background (instead of the default--white type on a black background). On the right-hand side I have my planning file for reference, which has three quick reference panels open containing the character backstories of three characters.

I've further customized the screen background with a photo image.  There is much more that can be done to customize Compose Mode.  My next course will be about creating an inspiring workspace in Compose Mode.
