Stevi, I love your abstract artwork and how you incorporated so many elements, including stencils, pastels, and acrylics. These are incredible. I tried the chalky kind of pastels once and absolutely hated them, but maybe I'll give oil pastels a go at some point.

Thank you Chris! Currently exploring abstract expressionism.  In the past did mostly realism and have been away from creating art work for many years and find that being expressive is more my intention at this point in my life. Pastels are interesting.  Still figuring our how to use them.  The most successful use of pastels has been using Pan Pastels on the Gel Plate.....some fun results with that technique. There are so many amazing mediums out there that were not available when I studied art 35+ years ago....that the exploration is endless!  Good luck with your exploration and play!  

That is fascinating - good for you to know what you want to focus on and allowing yourself to express that! I agree with how many more mediums there are now than when I was into art (over 50 years ago... I'm ancient, lol!) My father primarily did oil pastels, oil painting, and watercolor. But of course back then, there were no "on-line" lessons - he primarily painted watercolors and oils from pictures from his beloved National Geographic magazines. He was self-taught and just amazing. I think it's easier to progress when you have these amazing tutorials where you can pause, re-watch, and so it's like everyone has a teacher that goes at just the right speed for them. :) I'm going to have to try pan pastels on the gel plate - never heard of that before!
