Subjects in landscapes - Iceland countryside shoot
This was my first time on a proper portrait photoshoot. I was not familiar with the area, so we didn't have a specific location in mind and just drove around. I used the Canon EOS M50 and Sigma 30mm f1.4 prime lens (this would be 50mm on a full sensor).
Photo 1 - 1/1000 f1.4 100ISO I planned to use the car and cup as props, in case we didn't find a good location. These were elements that I could easily use to put some sort of story into the scene. What I don't like is the snowflakes of the top of the image that have a dark hue to them. Wonder how I could fix that.
Photo 2 - 1/1000 f1.4 100ISO We came across horses chilling around a long-abandoned house. We tried all kinds of different setups, but the best photo came when we were already leaving. I noticed a horse coming near the model and that I had an opportunity to capture the moment of fun through a hole in the wall of that abandoned house. That gave the photo a nice frame. Like Stephen in the class said... If something unexpected grabs your attention, follow that idea.
Photo 3 - 1/1000 f1.4 100ISO - This beach had a very nice reflective surface and we took a bunch of great photos there. My favorite came from instructing her to walk forward and look towards the ocean. This brought about a more natural looking pose.
What I would change in this shoot (photo 1 and 3 specifically) is close the aperture a bit more (maybe f2.8-3.5) to get more of the background in focus. I had just gotten my first prime lens before the shoot so I was excited to use it's max open aperture. However, looking back I'd say having a clearer view of the environment would've been more impactful.
I also need to learn better color editing. It was tough to achieve a cohesive color balance in Photo 3.
