Hello Michael, thanks for leaving the project and informing me about the link to the reference poses. I'll take it down and look for alternatives. Much appreciated. Now, to your questions. :)For most of my drawing work, I use 100 g (67 LB) paper by Canson. You can use other manufacturers but the main takeaway is to feel the paper under your fingers and decide if you like it. It should be a little thicker than the ordinary printing paper and have a bit more texture. Still, this is my own preference. I encourage you to experiment. Find the paper with grain that you find the most enjoyable to work. Test each with some of the exercises you did in the second photo and compare. Try pencils like HB, 2 B, and some softer like 5 or 6B to see how it feels to draw. When it comes to your personal improvement I would urge you not to use any kind of smudging on the lines that you make. At this stage at least. Why? By not smudging you are forced to make the shadows with a deeper understanding of how to shade an object with the material in your hand. You have to think about how much pressure to apply - consider different pencils for each stage of drawing, starting with harder pencils and thinner lines for constructing your drawing and softer ones later on; Stack layers on top of one another, gradually building the drawing - As you did in the second photo, with cups. I think you nailed it on the last two, good work. In those two, shading follows the curvature of the cup, looks really fine, shows the core shadow, transitions from light to shadow, and so on, without any smudging, Good work; Follow the shape of the subject that you're drawing with shading that also follows and describes the shadows - your lines, while shading, should "flow" around the subject that you're drawing. They don't have to be always straight, make them curved if needed. I think you should improve on your anatomy drawing next. Find some life drawing sessions with live models if you have those. These are great since you'll see how other people are doing it, and find other like-minded people to push you further. Otherwise, you can find sets of reference images online. Thank you for the feedback. You are right, if things doesn't look good I use smudging. I will refrain from doing so.
I originally wanted to improve my painting with watercolours and started drawing. Now a rabbit hole has opened up and I have already slipped into anatomy. I want to go back to standard shapes, I have seen improvements from another user within two months that were incredible. My shadows and hatching style are not so good, I think I need to go back there. I also haven't dealt with layering, I only know it from watercolours.
I want to force progress, but I can't skip the basics. 
A girlfriend wants me to paint her. I'll see her in a month, then I'll have the opportunity, but until then I have to improve a lot.

Thank you for the course. Do you use a structured paper? I like your hatching of the shadows, but I can't get the structure right myself.
