Sea Turtle, Octopus, Sea Horse, and Puffin

Check out all four mixed media creature creations below! :)

Embellished the sea horse's background:

I really love what the addition of some wavy lines and circles added. I used Sharpie and Paint Pens as well as s some black colored pencil to darken up the water and add some value contrast.

Mixed Media Puffin:

Ever since I created this class, a certain piece of decorative paper I'd created by dropping black ink onto a wet paper has been asking me to turn it into a puffin. And this week was finally the perfect week to work on a new mixed media creature. I loved using a decorative paper I've had lying around for over fifteen years to help bring this adorable puffin's habitat to life. The green ground was textured using salt on wet watercolor and I used ink to add bold pops to my background paper.

Original work:

I had so much fun creating these three sea creatures using the steps from this class. The first I created was an octopus for our neighborhood book club at the request of a neighbor since we had read Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. The idea of this watercolor mixed media collage artwork came to mind and I am so glad I created him. It led to an artwork I love and to a class I am so proud of.

Then in the making of the class I created this bright sea horse.

Then I really wanted to use the green textured paper I'd created so I turned that into a sea turtle which I absolutely love. I decided to only add mixed media to the sea turtle because I was so happy with the rubbing alcohol and bubble wrap ocean.
