Robby the Robot

Robby the Robot - student project

I was really impressed with your Model and Animate a 3D Robot using Cinema 4D class. You have a very easy-to-follow teaching style and you cover all the important information carefully and accurately at a very comfortable pace. I have picked up a lot of useful tricks and tips that will make my modeling and animating in C4D easier and more productive. I really enjoy your classes. I was inspired to create a 3D robot as a result of taking this class.

I'm not very creative thinking up things like robots from scratch, but I am pretty good at modeling what I see. So I decided to make a C4D model of probably the most recognized robot of all, Robby the Robot from the 1956 movie Forbidden Planet. Here is my model. I worked on Robby evenings and weekends for the last 10 days or so. There are still a few details that need work, but he's 95% done . . .

I animated some of the lights and the rotating rings and gyroscopes, but I haven't animated the body for a walk cycle yet. Working on it.

I used what you presented in this class as a basis and then applied every technique I have ever learned in Cinema 4D to produce this model. It was a great challenge and a very productive learning experience.

As part of one of your other classes, I also made a Movie Poster for Robby.

I really enjoyed the challenge of making my own 3D robot using Cinema 4D. Thanks for the inspiration!
