I decided to journal my first impressions of Madeira from the first week of my stay here. During a week in Funchal, the things that stood out the most for me were:
- white walls and red/orange rooftops, 
- very steep roads without pavements, 
- every house had the same windows, 
- banana trees everywhere, 
- also a lot of houses seemed to have a dog, 
- during hikes we saw a lot of waterfalls,
- flowers in January,
- clouds high in the mountains but sunny weather near the coast,
- giant ships coming and going from the port every day.
