Pirates: A 4 Page Layout

Pirates: A 4 Page Layout - student project

This is an example of a 4 page layout utilizing practical graphic design principles. I decided to do the Pirate theme.

I really tried to create a consistent feel to my over all design by using repetition. This can be seen in:

- Image Frames

- Typography Style

- Images/ Color

In each layout I tried to develop a focal point that catches the viewers attentions.

Cover Page - Large image of pirate ship with the main title

Page 2/3 Spread - Large map Image

Last Page - Pirate ship Image with full bleed

I tried to create a sense of Balance that helped guide the viewer.

In the cover page made it a little off balance by placing a large color block to the right hand side, this leads the viewers eyes to the edge and leads them to turn the page.

In the center Spread I gave one side a large image and little text  and the balance that out I gave a lot of white space with more text on the opposite page.

On the final page I balanced the large image of the boat with a large block of text and an image to create a very balance asymmetrical design.

In the process of making my layout I utilized Paragraph and Character styles as well as master pages. To create alignment I used a simple grid and broke it when required.

Class Practice Assignments:

These are a few examples of the class assignments that will help put the Practical Graphic Design principles into practice.

Its super fun just to play around with your layouts and disovering new ways to organize information in a creative way.

I look forward to seeing everyone's class projects and see how you apply these principles in your layout designs!

All the best,
