My Miniature Dachshund

My Miniature Dachshund - student project

I'm aiming to do 100 paintings of my dog, Daphne. This is the first one. I don't know that I can commit to one a day, but I love the idea of painting 100 of her by the end of the year. I'll edit this post to upload more as I go. I'm really excited to see how they change and how I grow.

One thing I've noticed with the way I paint and what I like from the artists I follow are having obvious paint strokes. I really like to see big, bold strokes. So that's my mantra when I paint - big, bold strokes. I also like using a lot of bright colours, which will have to be prominent in the background for paintings of my black and tan dog, unless I want to try adding colour to her. That could be cool to try and see how it turns out!

This was on a larger canvas board. I used bigger paint brushes and did all but the last layer loose using Laurie Anne's tip of holding the brush further back. I think this is one of the best paintings I've ever done! I love the background and like that I wasn't as heavy on the highlights.
