synopsis: 

Mazie felt proud of the plants she grew from seeds Mama gave her to plant, especially the truly amazing sunflower that towered over the garden gate. But at summer’s end, after Mama chopped down the giant sunflower plant and stood it stood in the compost bin, Mazie thought it looked ugly and creepy until she chanced to see it performing heroic actions, and realized her plant was still truly amazing.
