Many Surprises

I LOVED doing this project! I learned so much, and was surprised a lot, too!

My first set in yellows and reds were a complete disaster, with only one of them turning out okay only after I added ink. (I was using two tulip canvases from photos I'd taken years ago as my inspiration, and just could not get those paints to work. But I will try again.)

Seeing your blue palette, I had to try that one myself. I didn't have great expectations with the blues after my disastrous first attempts, but yowza wowza! Those four blues turned out amazing and are my best ones that I can't seem to recreate! LOL!

I realized as I was taking photos, I forgot additional mark making after everything was dry. The blues don't need anything more, but all the rest could benefit from something more and may improve some I haven't shared below. After many failed attempts in pinks and greens and yellows and reds, I just decided to make different shapes and come back another day to try again with those colors.

I also experimented with using the ink dropper as my line maker, but preferred the finer lines of the calligraphy nibs. On one of the blue ones, I even used a scraggly line instead of straight, to match the feel of the flower itself, and I'm pleased with how it turned out.

I also pulled out some other color inks, although my collection of those is minimal at this point. (I add a bottle or two each month!) I used acrylic inks in Payne's Gray, Red Earth, Indigo, and an India ink in Grass Green.

Thanks for teaching us more new skills, Denise. Awesome class as usual!
