Inked Hydrangea

Inked Hydrangea - student project

I inked a hydrangea stem, which was quite woody at this time of year. I probably needed to press it longer, but even then it might have been too bulky to print well. I ended up deconstructing the parts of the flower and inking them separately:

I liked the vectorising settings demonstrated in class to get lots of detail. Here is my inky hydrangeas after image tracing and arranging back into something resembling a whole stem. I also tried out some colour:

I felt like I wanted some background texture, so I went a bit off-piste and headed over to Photoshop to put a hand-painted texture underneath the vector design. I thought it would look good as a vase, so I did some further work with digital collage and added cut-paper flowers to finish the design:

Thanks for a lovely class Kimberly! I really enjoyed getting inky and using prints from natural objects in my artwork.
